@Cyan:
Hilary's a skilled politician on her own; she'd probably run circles around a GOP-owned congress like she and Bill did back in the 90s.
Why is it pretty much taken for granted at this point that Hillary is running, and that she's going to win? The Republicans don't have anyone worthwhile yet, and Hillary, attached to Bill's record, and some momentum as "the first woman president" can get it, I'm not doubting…
but she is on the older side. She'll be 69 in 2016. As a woman the media will have a problem with her looks, and her opponents have a long and very public track record and history to go to (on the other hand, all her dirty laundry is already out)
We've only had a handful of presidents over the age of 60. (And both Harrison and Taylor died within a year.)
Closest we've had to that age is Reagan, who inaugurated just about two weeks shy of 70. (And Bush Sr. was 64.) Reagan then went for two terms so, we clearly CAN have someone approaching 80 in the white house... but I don't know that Reagan is the best precedent to point to. John McCain would have been older if he'd won, but... he got constantly blasted for his age as well.
