Kingdom Hearts 2.9 is such a moronic idea that I could totally see it happening. Except released for phones, and called something like Kingdom Hearts: Indelible Orchestra of Sashimi
Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts Ground Zeroes

The only reason 2.9 wouldn't be a bad thing is if it's literally a compilation release of KH1.5 and 2.5 for Xbone, PS4 and (Hopefully) PC.

But 2.5 came out kinda recently, didn't it? I figured it and 1.5 were ways to celebrate the series and bring new players up to speed for the plot threads for KH3.
-
The attraction flow thing makes me think it's Dream Drop Distance HD.

Oh god, I would love that! I haven't touched either game, so getting them both would be wonderful.
-

Yes, but 1.5 and 2.5 are on PS3. KH3 is gonna be new gen exclusive, so it'd make sense to release a version that people who ONLY have that gen might be able to get.

Even that sounds like it'd annoy people who brought the previous two. If you didn't buy them though it'd be a pretty good deal.

I don't have a PS3 or PS4 :(
At this point I'm kinda leaning towards the Xbone for KH3, since my brother wants the system in general.
if only KH3 had a Wii U port… -
if only KH3 had a Wii U port…Yeah, frustrating.
I want to play KH3, but I have absolutely no reason to own a PS4/Xbox One aside from KH3. I've enjoyed my PS2 and PS3, but I don't really see the appeal lasting to PS4 just because I feel like I've been 'satisfied' with the PS3, if that makes any sense?
-
I still have no idea why they took longer than a console generation to even get started on a third entry.
-
because they fucked up FF13 and needed to pump out some hastily-made sequels to recoup the engine development cost
because they fucked up FF14 and had to rededicate tons of company resources to rebuilding and fixing it
because they fucked up FF15 and never managed to get it off the ground on the PS3 architecturein short, they didn't have time to work on coordinating the drapes when the house-fire they started was burning around them
-
They used to be able to do a main title FF every year or two. What happened to that?
ANd Dragon Quest as well, for that matter.
I know the tech got more time consuming but yeesh. For franchises to go from almost annual to practically once a decade is terrible. And also means there's less forgiveness if a game sucks. If you don't like FF8 or 10 or whatever, its fine because you had 7, 9 and 12 in close proximity… odds were good you'd like SOMETHING. but now? If you dont then its all you have for a while.
-
because of the exponential increase in AAA development costs (which has already left almost everyone else in Japan behind) and the infamous inefficiency of Japanese development practices, specifically in creating every game in-house from scratch without using third-party engines or tools, and the common issue (at least, according to stories) of different departments of Japanese devs essentially having almost no contact with one another due to bureaucratic hierarchy. I think there's a reason that they've come out and said KH3 will be developed with the Unreal Engine, and it's that they've finally realized their development model will promptly fall apart if they don't adopt some smarter policies.

And hopefully actual remakes of 358/2 days, Re:Coded, and a console port of Dream Drop Distance.
Of course, I'd rather the focus be on Kingdom Hearts 3 foremost… but if this actually becomes a thing, it should be complete.
-
There's also the BBS Vol. 2 that Nomura really wanted to do.
-
But 2.5 came out kinda recently, didn't it?
Yeah, it hasn't even been out for a full year yet. That's one of the main things that makes this idea seem "eh".

There's also the BBS Vol. 2 that Nomura really wanted to do.
After recently playing Birth By Sleep for the first time in the 2.5 remix, I wouldn't even be mad if this became a full fledged thing.
-
What are the chances SE releases a water downed version of KH 2.9 or 3 on the PC sometime later what they've been doing with their FF stuff lately?

I have DDD for 3DS and I don't think it'll be a thing here since it's the newest out of all of them and is still an in-print game available on an in-production system.
Re:Coded and Days definitely needs it tho.

In the course of years lots of key people left Square Enix: from Hironobu Sakaguchi, to Yasumi Matsuno and the Team Ivalice. The same happened with Tetsuya Takahashi and Tanaka Kaori with the whole rest of people that later on became Monolith Soft after the shitty treatment they received while working with SE. Other important people stopped actively working like Hiroyuki Ito, that despite his failed attempt with the combat in FF8 he was still a great game designer with lots of ideas. Other people also followed like Tatsuya Kando, Tomohiro Hasegawa and Tetsuro Hosokawa (which all of them worked previously between FF, KH and TWEWY).
It didn't help that after this huge manpower was lost, SE gave much important roles to far less talented people like Motomu Toriyama, Tetsuya Nomura, Hajime Tabata and others even less capable. The difference overall between the SE from the 90s and the 2010s is enormous, and coupling all those talented people that left with what Stephen said should give a clear reason why this happened.

Holy shit, I can't breathe! Haha!
-
Re:Coded and Days definitely needs it tho.
Days definitely, it's one of the heavier plot sources, and I wish its DS control scheme had the interface of DDD on 3DS.
As for Re: Coded….maybe? I found it fun but it always seemed to be insignificant compared to the others in terms of story and well...gameplay. I believe it combined the gameplay styles of Days and BBS, especially the customization windows.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 announced, includes Dream Drop Distance HD, Kingdom Hearts Χ: Back Cover and 0.2 Birth by Sleep: A Fragmentory Passage.
-
Nomura REALLY wants to make sure you know every piece of backstory possible for KH3. This is getting ridiculous now.

You can read the story online and watch videos of it, this is just a greedy cash grab to fill the holes before kh3
-
How the hell can you put Final Chapter and Prologue on the same title? And by Back Cover you mean that cellphone game? That is canon as well?
-
Here's the next HD collection of which we only have gameplay for one of the games featured
That doesn't instill confidence…
Birth by Sleep: The Pre-sequel looks like it's going to be the "demo" of Kingdom Hearts 3.
-
Kingdom Hearts II.8?
I see Square Enix's naming skills are still as great as ever.
-
On one hand, I really love this idea. Especially the HD remake of Dream Drop Distance, since I can't stand the way it controls on the 3DS.
On the other hand though, this just means a longer wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 and even more to buy to be able to experience it. At the very least, I'm glad they didn't decide to make the Birth by Sleep continuation a Vita exclusive or something.
But they should've went with 2.9. Now I'm worried that 2.9 will eventually be made as a PS4 HD remix of everything in 1.5-2.5.

One question: WILL THIS COME OUT IN ENGLISH?
Well, the game is almost a guarantee if the two other HD remixes are anything to go by.
If you mean the trailer, probably when it's officially announced I guess.

As someone who missed out on DDD, this is definitely something for me. As for the wait being longer, I wouldn't bet on this stalling KH3.

Birth by Sleep: The Pre-sequel looks like it's going to be the "demo" of Kingdom Hearts 3.
As far as I can gather, "a fragmentory passage" is literally just the (playable) epilogue of BBS final mix. It appears to have been a part of 2.5 remix as well, so unless they've pimped it up considerably for this re-re-release, its not new content.
I'm assuming the KH "Chi"/X/whatever bit is just going to be a video of cryptic nonsense, since it being "PS4-worthy" would require a massive game overhaul.

The BBS-part is definitely new content. It's also made in the KH3-engine so it's most likely going to be a prologue of sorts.
-
2.8 won't include anything from the 2.5 release will it? Its Just Dream Drop Distance and the prologue thing?
-

Correct. My understanding is that the only full game 2.8 includes is Dream Drop Distance. The "χ" ("Chi") part will only be cutscenes from the Browser/Mobile game "Kingdom Hearts χ" like how I.5 and II.5 included cutscenes from 358/2 Days and RE:Coded. The Birth By Sleep content in this game is apparently not gonna be anything from the original Birth By Sleep, but a new playable segment that takes place after Birth By Sleep. It won't be full-game length tho, it'll basically be a prologue for KHIII.
-
Its funny when you realize its basically a 3DS game ported to PS4.

I meant the game, I can understand most of the trailer.

Geez. Just reading about how all this crap has been released over 73 consoles in 19 different formats over 15 years just makes me not want to care at all.
How the hell did they release it all in such a convoluted fashion to begin with. How does this make sense to anyone?
-
Someone pointed this out and I was amazed at how true it is: Kingdom Hearts is just MGS for a different audience. Very proficiently made and enjoyable games that have baffling, pretentious stories completely hidden up their own ass.

Kingdom Hearts: Ground Zeroes point eight

With Goofy as that racist friend of yours.

Seems about right.
The reason I think KH might suffer more from this than MGS is how completely at odds the extraordinarily convoluted story is with the games core concept and presentation. Like, we start out with an adventure to find your buddies and Mickey Mouse with your friends Goofy and Donald Duck, and a general vibe of "Light good, Darkness bad, now go help Pooh get some honey". But it somehow morphs into this massively unwieldy and frustratingly vague lore, where you need to listen to exposition on the Darkness of Hearts in the Realm of Darkness linked by Hearts using the aspects of Nobodies and Clones and Time Travel… and all you want to do is just to fight Hades and Jafar in the same game.I feel that MGS' completely bonkers narrative at least fits its "augmented super-spy anime" vibe better, but thats just me. If theres any RPG property I'd say is a bad match for "pretentiously overcomplicated and meandering story", its Kingdom Hearts.

extended announcement trailer
now with 30 secs of new KH3 gameplay.
-
looks to be in English at the first few minutes of riku talking but looks like a Cross of 3DS DDD and normal KH battling
Cool Pinocchio is back and there is a 3 Musketeers map -
Yes…? the maps should be the same considering it's literally DDD updated for home consoles
-

Having never played Metal Gear Solid I'll take your word for it.
-
The 3 Musketeers world never made sense to me. Mickey in his youth was a boatboy in Timeless River, then….switched to a guard in France?, then...married Queen Minnie to become king....of Disney? Or are there two Mickeys now?
Then there's the Disney town or whatever in Birth by Sleep, so....

It's a bit strange, but it's supposed to be a point in the past when Mickey was training to be a keyblade master.
Then there's the Disney town or whatever in Birth by Sleep, so….
Disney Town is supposed to be the Disney Castle world in Birth by Sleep. It's just the town that surrounds the castle.

And Donald and Goofy realized down the line that rapiers that not were their calling and switched to magic and a shield instead :)

Ah, thanks. Never played Birth by Sleep.
Actually, here's another thought. BBS was what, 10 years before KH1…..Cinderella, Snow White, and Aurora aged very well.
