Chapter 762: The White Town

Not the same thing.
After all, where are the mountains in the newspaper pic?
What mountains?
Trust me, they are the same thing. They look a little different because the ruin in newspaper are the redawn version from the RAW. -
What mountains?
Trust me, they are the same thing. They look a little different because the ruin in newspaper are the redawn version from the RAW.The mountains behind the building in the cover story.
The newspaper doesn't show those mountains.
-
How did baby delinger join the family. I wonder if he's Jora's kid.
-
So, I'm guessing the reason why Doflamingo shot Law with lead bullets was to taunt Law about his traumatic past?
Damn, that is cold blooded, right there.
Would be weird because it means that he expected Law to extract the bullets at one point…. even after being chained in his palace.
-
Still curious about that Rocky Port Incident… seeing how Jinbei is at a port now, I wonder if it has any connections?
Anyhow, amazing chapter. Can't wait for next week!
-
Would be weird because it means that he expected Law to extract the bullets at one point…. even after being chained in his palace.
Or maybe tell him.
-
The mountains behind the building in the cover story.
The newspaper doesn't show those mountains.
It's from a different angle, of course.
-
oh yeah, I just realised… No Colour Spread this week, man I was really looking forward to one
-
How did baby delinger join the family. I wonder if he's Jora's kid.
I don't think so. They never have shown to be particularly close or anything. They probably just found him somewhere and were like "Eh, why not. At least he'll be loyal."
-
No Bartolomeo as well
-
Wow. This is Oda's social commentary on Fukushima and how Japan's government has left the inhabitants of the region without assistance. The repercussions will be passed on to future generations.
-
Actually, rather than "Joker", Corazon reminds me more of "The Crow" for some reason. I'm guessing his real name name is Donquixote Docrow/Doraven or something lol. (Yeah, I know raven =/= crow but still)
Pretty good chapter. I'm getting even more curious about Law's eventual relationship with Corazon.
-
Wow, Señor is not hard-boiled. Not hard-boiled at all. He looked pretty soft-boiled in the past, actually.
Take note, gentlemen. Only age, a fat gut and a diaper can make you truly amazing in life. And I don't even know what manner of nonsense brought widdle baby Dellinger on board, but it's great.
-
!
I wonder if she will turn into a horrible little shit in the next chapter.
Either way I definitely expect the young and handsome Mr. Pink to have terrible luck with women. He is lacking the hardboiledness and he doesn't even baby.
Can't… handle... too... much... adorable.
Hmm, I don't know. Honestly, she doesn't even seem like that now.
She really just strikes me as the type who is just doing what her captain asks.
I don't know about her past. But she seems like she was on her own and Doflamingo took her in. So, he's probably like a father figure to her.
Or big brother, since Doflamingo was said to think of her as his younger sister.I think she grew up just following the group so much that she never figured out what it means to have free will.
But perhaps is struggling to discover that due to the way she has mentioned killing Doflamingo and destroying the town. -
So we have all seen the fin on dellingers back. People have speculated that hes half/part fishman.
Well i have always thought Giolla looked like a mermaid. She has that same kinda look as kokoro to me.
Seeing a baby Dellinger in this chapter sitting right next to Giolla makes me think maybe hes Giolla's son or maybe (if shes a mermaid it makes it more likey but not wholly necessary .) the son of a close friend who she has to care for.

Jora isn't a mermaid. She has legs.
-
Wow…I have been mega obsessed with Dofla's crew and now....mother of god it looks amazing. I know Monet and Sugar weren't around when Law was around but I'm hoping towards the end of this it shows a little of how they came about. I do have a feeling we will see another flashback for dofla on how he met everyone. I really really really cannot wait for these fights, but this flashback is insanely awesome!
-
-
@Light:
Jora isn't a mermaid. She has legs.
Kokoro can change her fin into a pair of legs.
Or did your mind didn't want to remember?:ninja: -
Very solid chapter. Loved the designs of the young Donquixote family, especially Gladius and Senor Pink. Even Machvise looks competent, and Lao G was and always will be a dork. Great interactions within the crew.
As for the flashback, I found it compelling but not particularly moving. Part of the reason is that half of Law's back-backstory is narrated, not shown from Law's perspective. In addition, it doesn't have the slow build that gets us invested in the characters. For instance, the inclusion of Law's sister (Lamy? Really?) was uninspired but showed Law had compassion and loyalty back before his world collapsed. But that's ok, since this is merely meant to preface the central flashback, where I expect we'll see some real emotional ties. Darth's definitely right that this chapter lacked subtlety, but Oda hasn't been subtle in a long time, especially not in flashbacks. It was still dark as hell and got the job done.
I think the villain here wasn't necessarily the World Government, which just looked the other way and decided to stay out of it in order to cover their asses. Really, it's the fellow man who's the bad one, because the neighboring countries believed rumors about contagion, quarantined the people in a poisonous land and denied them aid, and eventually massacred thousands of innocent lives that might have been otherwise saved. This depiction ties in nicely to both Law's and Doflamingo's view on the nature of humans and their disillusionment with the idea of 'good.' Both end up swearing revenge on, well, everyone, but Doflamingo still retains the belief of superiority he attained from the CDs whereas Law is resigned to his fate and merely wants to destroy the refuse he sees as all of humanity.
-
Still no signs of Doffy betraying Corazon and the no mention of the Ope Ope fruit yet.
However that was a heart wrenching past for Traffy :/
I like how Oda consistently add some serious social commentary in every arc.Wow. This is Oda's social commentary on Fukushima and how Japan's government has left the inhabitants of the region without assistance. The repercussions will be passed on to future generations.
Since this is a pretty clear statement about lead poisoning, I think it's about lead, not Fukushima.
fyi there is still over a hundred thousand people dying every year due to lead poisoning around the globe.
ps. the focus on profit and economic growth rather than human lives and environmental well being directly refers to modern China.
-
so what's her name, Is it Trafalgar Lamy or Lamy Law?
-
@Light:
Jora isn't a mermaid. She has legs.
Did you forget mermaids get their legs at age 30? Madam Shyarley is getting hers soon..
Anyways I don't think much of Jora related to Dellinger but I do wonder if Sugar and Monet are related. Monet shouldn't be undercover in the palace already, that seems like it's too soon and since Law never met Monet in this flashback. That would mean she would have joined the crew around the same time Sugar did, so…
Also.. so Law's sister is named Trafalgar (Bel)Lamy, huh..
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
so what's her name, Is it Trafalgar Lamy or Lamy Law?
Gotta be Trafalgar.
-
Kokoro was also a mermaid and she had legs.
No, her tail was split in two.
!
! Open at your own risk… Oh wait should've put this earlier no? :ninja:Anyway Jora clearly has that weird lump that people have on their ankles, so she's a human.
-
The world government hide that lead was poisoning for 100 years and instead of telling to neighboring countries of fevance that what the people had wasn't contagious they just decided to keep quiet and only saved the royalty of the country.
Their actions lead to genocide so yes, so they are definitely the villains in this situation. -
Wow, definitely one of the darker chapters in the series. All aboard the feels train for Law's backstory….
-
@Gia:

I fully agree with you. They are awesome.
There are so many things I like about this chapter.
- The first spread is absolutely gorgeous, and, as I mentioned in the spoiler thread, gives me a "Last Supper" vibe. The food looks absolutely delicious, and after seeing it for the first time, I immediately ordered a big pizza.
- Baby Dellinger is one of the most awesome things this chapter had to offer, and he' so cute as well. I wonder how did he grow into such a monster.
- The designs for the Donquixote family 16 years ago are truly spectacular, and I seem to be the only one who actually likes the Top Executives designs. Lao G is hilarious with those bunny ears, and he was pretty ripped back in the days. Giolla is unique as well, and Dofla looks especially great in that suit. Overall, great job, Oda!
- The gag with a glaring Law is great, as it was back in chapter 740.
- Law's past is quite sad, and those children corpses are certainly a new thing. And I like it!
- Senor Pink could probably rival Sanji's badassnes by looks alone. I wonder, if someone would have said "16 years from now you will be fighting a blue haired cyborg" would he laugh, or not?
- And lastly, Law stabbing Corazon was greatly done.
Can't wait for next week!
-
There's also definitely something more with Doflamingo. The way oda portrays his solitude reading (sometimes with music) just….something about him.
-

Their actions lead to genocide so yes, so they are definitely the villains in this situation. They acted out of greed and self-interest, which is par for course for them. Sure they're responsible for it, but it's the actions of the neighboring countries that really dooms Flevance. Think about Buffalo's immediate hatred and disgust of Law when he first finds out.
-
Would be weird because it means that he expected Law to extract the bullets at one point…. even after being chained in his palace.
He seemed to wanted to reason with him. So I suppose he would have free Law at some point.
-

To me they are the bigger villain because not only they knew this for over a century and still were quiet about this besides by Gladius words by the time the genocide happened Flevance was already doomed since Law generation was dying even before they become adults.
The neighboring countries actions just speed up the process of the genocide and allowed the world goverment to not be direct culprits of this particular crime. -
Not finished with the chapter yet, but I can't hold it anymore. . .Flashback Doflamingo Family is SO BADASS.
Holy shit. Everyone looks like a goddamn, fucking boss with a degree in Badassery.
That's it for now . . .
-
They're all a little villainous here. Regardless of how the neighboring countries reacted to the situation, the WG let them get ill. Instead of telling them that the stuff was poisonous, they acted out of greed. Don't care if that's the normal thing for them to do, they are supposed to be for the common man, for the good of the people. They put a bounty on Kidd's head saying it was because he was killing innocent civilians, when they've basically done the same thing. This isn't a one marine sort of thing like Sakazuki blowing up the ship of citizens in Ohara. In fact, I would even say he had a decent reason behind that, despite going too far. But the WG has been losing favor in my eyes more and more since the CP9 saga. I lost faith in the organization when they allowed for the Human Auction House to exist. And now they just add onto that by allowing a country full of innocent people die to fill up their filthy wallets. Granted, I'm guessing there are many marines who don't know of these kinds of things going on. And some of the marines are at least sort of honorable. Smoker, Coby and Tashigi being the main ones who come to mind. But anyone who condoned the destruction of these people to save face or to get more money, is a despicable person, and deserves to be thrown into the most painful levels of Impel Down.
I don't agree with how the neighboring countries reacted. They should have been there for the people regardless. But, they also were in fear of the disease. Which is a much better reason than greed.
Regardless of how many times the government has done or allowed bad things in the name of justice, it doesn't make any single instance less evil.
-
Loved this chapter :D Can't wait for more of the flashback!
-
He seemed to wanted to reason with him. So I suppose he would have free Law at some point.
He's clearly after the immortality operation, though I have no idea why he would keep Law alive rather than just kill him next to a fruit basket.
-
So, I'm guessing the reason why Doflamingo shot Law with lead bullets was to taunt Law about his traumatic past?
Damn, that is cold blooded, right there.
As Jabra said, I don't think he expected Law to take a look at the bullets, so I suppose he chose lead bullets just to enjoy the irony of it himself.
-

The neighboring countries actions just speed up the process of the genocide and allowed the world goverment to not be direct culprits of this particular crime.Don't know if I trust people like Flamingo and Gladius…
But anyway, as I said. Manipulative.

Yeah, the biggest problem is, when the situation hit the rock bottom and genocide by neighboring countries was about to erupt, they STILL didn't make the knowledge that the contamination is not infectious known.
The initial decision to choose profit over health concerns, while greedy, was likely a risk management failure.
I mean, the substance was very low dose on poison, I bet they were not aware what the residue concentration would cause in the long exposure.
That part, while malicious and greedy, we can somewhat forgive… similar things have happened in our world through out history. But when things were climaxing for the worse, they chose to stay silent instead of intervention. They had the knowledge to stop the worst possible outcome, and did not act on it. THAT is the biggest sin the WG managed to pull off here. Millions of lives were at stake, and they chose their trivial reputation.
-
Holy shyt!! Senor pink was so awesome! Wonder why he changed so much n decided to put on a diaper. Bladder problems?

See, and that's why I think the entire marine organisation is bullshit.
They have this giant army, the most powerful single force on the planet, whose higher ups, from what we saw, have no common ground with goverment at all when it comes to decision making.
Why in the hell do they work for those people?!
-
This chapter hurts your heart in all the wrong places, poor baby Law!
-
Never seen Oda being so brutal.
(Dead kids all over the place)
But hey, I ain't complainin' …
I think that's what Oda lacks often. -
In very confused with the multiple timelines. Did law meet everyone in dressarosa? If so, is it possible that DoFlamingo was the "rich family" that got rich off of scheming in the White City?
-
I like the little touch of Dofla reading the history of Flevace

"For the greater good."

Neither it was THE World Governmnt that did that. Say someone in the US government is paying scientists to change the results of their experiments so they would be in favor of whatever they want to pass, would you hold it against the entire governmet? Against Obama? That's pretty much what happened here. It wasn't something ordered by the Gorosei for example. The World Government in itself isn't evil, while some of its officials are corrupt, even if they don't think much of the human rights of the ones they consider a threat.
