So, the consensus I'm getting from people is that "They mostly got the Turles' personalities right and it's kinda neat to see the Turtles engage in actual fights that aren't hindered by 90s era rubber Turtle suits… And Megan Fox gave a career best performance (which is still bad by actual acting standards) but otherwise, this is just a big ball of bland and Bay."

I know they had flirting in the old movies. That came across as… playful? This comes across as... actual creepy sexual attraction?
But Shwing is literally a "Boner being made" sound effect (with accompanying arm gestures) that had found its way into pop culture via Waynes World. It's practically the same thing. (Doesn't make it any less inappropriate tho)

Shwing was perfectly harmless and unoffensive goofy word and just a Wayne's World thing . (Wayne's World totally went over my head as a kid, and I saw it dozens of times. Very different movie now. Totally didn't get any of the hundreds of sex jokes as a kid)
But even then the turtles using it was more a popculture catchphrase of that year saying "she's hot!" and doesn't inherently mean "I actually have a hard on right now." I never thought Wayne and Garth were getting seriously horny when they made Shwing jokes.
Yes, its a dick joke, but its not actually saying "I am turned on right now" followed by another character going "I can hear you right now, and that's unpleasant to think about. Stop it."
Sigh. I suppose most kids aren't going to get "there's tightening in my shell" either… but it just feels waaay more forward and blunt and crude and creepy.

The fight scenes were great and there was lots of action which was an added bonus but the turtles were fun! That's what I wanted most out of a TMNT movie and they delivered on that for me. The only problems I had with the movie was Master Splinter's visuals, the annoying male reporter, Megan Fox's upclose camera distress face shots, and the plot if you can call it that.
This is just going to have to be one of those movies that I like where the majority of people just don't.

Side Note: Half way through through the movie you forget Whoopi Golberg is even in it. Not that I had a problem with her character or anything but it just hit me, "Oh yeah, Whoopi Golberg was in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

It's that the movie is pg13 when everything else is pg about the turtle's current franchise? I didn't think this was actually true, but I don't have anything to say otherwise. Wouldn't it be considered a risky move normally to market to younger kids but not have a movie they could see?
Not really. The difference between PG and PG-13 is generally so negligible that most parents don't care.
Usually it just meants action violence, or maybe some light swearing. Blood, sex and nudity are for R ratings.

I know some of the comics can get pretty violent, but the cartoons I know have never gone past PG. This . . . . . is pushing the limit, I think. For kids, anyway.

Considering how many kids between the age of 8-12 have seen the Marvel Movies, I would say this isn't a problem whatsoever for that particular demographic.
If anything's a deal breaker, it's the PG-13 to R rating difference. Heck, why do you think World War Z was so goofily edited?

I've often wondered about that myself; seems like being supported by people who only want you there so the world can end in fire (with you going to Hell in the process) would be somewhat off-putting

Your friends have some really weird and messed up expectations if they expected realistically textured ninja shreks to outdo the marketing campaign for the latest in the line of superb superhero movies.
Took my mom to see it today for her birthday.. It wasn't my idea. A lot of people in the theatre loved it, all the kids did, my mom did… I hated it, but I just told her I liked it. My god, it was bad, the jokes sucked, the acting was bad all around. It had no focus, the villains were so so so terrible. I can't imagine a more generic Turtle movie being made. It's a shame, since the turtles franchise has been so good for so long, or at least above mediocre.

My poor, poor father that took 8 year old me to that horror.
Besides the plot being a mess anyway there was one part that bugged me since it didnt even make sense.
[hide]At one point Splinter is explaining their origin, and mentions that aprils father died in the fire or was presumed to have died in it. But at the end the sacks says her father walked in on him doing his experiments or something and he shot him, when that directly conflicts with splinters claim. Maybe he shot him offscreen but that still doesnt make sense if he shot him while the building was on fire (when we see rubble fall on him from splinters flashback), and that her father also came in and just started the fire himself while destroying everything. The moment he said he killed her father just seemed like a cheap attempt to make us hate him right before he was done, it was so badly done, especially with that huge plot hole.[/hide]
