Pic of the day. The unexpected Assist Trophy, the TV-Game 15! Color TV-Game 15 is a home entertainment system that was released in 1977 in Japan before the release of Space Invaders. This is the oldest game to join the Smash Bros. series.

The multiple lines of blue are throwing me off. Is 2P supposed to be Zero Suit Samus?

This is what I read in Miiverse:
2p is Zero Suit Samus using her Down special. They added lit up shadows to show off the speed of her jump, similar to fox's Forward special

Oh, neat.
-
Now I see it, one line is her whole body, and the other 3 are afterimages.
-
so it's basically pong assist trophy it just isn't actually pong?
-
Yeah, nintendo doesn't has the rights for that.
-
color game-tv is nintendo's own made pong
-
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!
Pic of the day. You can choose to play as the girl villager too!! How lovely.
And now Villager enters the realm of adorableness. I'm loving this.
-
Blue eyed villager is kinda givin' me the creeps.
-
It was obvious that it would happen, but it's always nice to have confirmation…
-
Oh god their multiplying….
I wonder if they all have their own color sets like wario did in brawl.
-
Good news. So we have the red, yellow, green and pink colors.
I'm guessing there's still the blue (mandatory for team battles) and another color/costume swap to come.
I hope the last one will be black = male villager with a suit (see the 3DS game cover). -
Glad to get confirmation :)
-
i just wonder if the female outfit will be like wario's 2nd outfit and not just a colour swap. cause then we could have 12 different outfits
-
Blue eyed villager is kinda givin' me the creeps.
more fodder for the "Villager = axe-toting psycho" fan artists, I guess.
Anyways, glad to see you can play as the female villagers! wonder how many alts there are.
-
cat suit luigi
please
-
Nah Mr. L
And masked Dedede is vital.

Sakurai had something more to say about Color TV-Game 15:
Normally, controllers for these types of games had knobs with variable resistors–these allowed the players to control in-game movement by how far they twisted the knobs. The TV-Game 15 used microswitches instead. We've worked a little too hard to reenact the behavior of the original, so the paddles always move in linear paths with the same, consistent speed. We pay attention to such peculiar details!
On another note, I'm really hoping for some alternate costume goodness, I'm confident we'll at least get a handful more of them.
-
Didn't they say we'd get at least one alternate costume per character?
-
Didn't they say we'd get at least one alternate costume per character?
That has never been confirmed, sadly. Hopefully, if we don't get them all with the game, we may be able to obtain them via Nintendo Figurine Platform further down the line, I would approve of that.
That said, I think the former is way more likely to happen.
-
Glad that's out of the way.
-
Pic of the day. Under certain circumstances, the creatures on this planet appear to grow larger and go berserk. The Pikmin and I must be cautious lest we lose our heads to these beasts.
-
Pic of the day. This is the capsule for the Assist Trophies. It may emit rainbow-colored lights, or even blink. Even if there's something like a Color TV-Game 15 inside….
The sequence of uneventful pics makes me a bit uneasy. Wonder if something/someone will get disconfirmed this week.
-
I just think after the direct and with e3 coming up we have 2 massive smash bros events so close to each other. Stuff is being saved for that with little new things introduced like female villager and dillon

@www.businesswire.com.:
E3 Expo 2014
Nintendo invites fans in the Los Angeles area to attend and observe the first-ever public tournament of its new Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. On Tuesday, June 10, Nintendo will welcome 16 previously selected highly skilled Super Smash Bros. players to NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles to celebrate Super Smash Bros. fan culture and find out who will emerge victorious on the big stage. The Super Smash Bros. Invitational will entertain thousands of spectators in person, and will also be live-streamed on both Twitch's E3 channel and Nintendo's Twitch channel to let countless others around the world be among the first to see the new game in action.
As a special treat for the biggest fans, attendees who dress up as their favorite Super Smash Bros. characters may be selected for priority seating right in front of the stage on which the tournament will occur. The event will be photographed and filmed, so the best costumes might appear on Twitch or Nintendo’s YouTube channel, where the event can also be viewed.
Here are the details for Tuesday, June 10:| 9:30 a.m.: | | | Wristband distribution begins at NOKIA Plaza at L.A. LIVE, 777 Chick Hearn Court in Los Angeles. A wristband is required for entry, and 3,000 wristbands are available to Nintendo fans on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Fans are requested to not line up prior to Tuesday morning. Once a wristband is obtained, fans can leave the plaza area and then return later that day, closer to the start of the event. The order that wristbands are obtained in the morning does not impact the order of entry into the venue in the afternoon. |

| | | | |Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is scheduled to launch during the winter of 2014, while the Nintendo 3DS version is targeted for this summer.
For more information about the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, visit http://e3.nintendo.com/#2014/tournament.I'll watch this without fail, damn it why do I have to live in Europe :I
-
I'm getting the feeling that watching it on stream might be easier/a more pleasant experience than actually going in person, unless they received extra spoils in which case that kind of sucks for the rest of us.
I'm also hoping they don't have the best buy event on the same day. That'd be awful. Still waiting on that list of best buys that will have the demo so I can plan accordingly.

That reminds me….Has Nintendo announced a date for the Smash Bros Best Buy event yet?

Nope, no information on that yet. We just know it's happening, but no idea if it's 10th, 11th, or 12th of June.

I really need to get back to discussing this with you guys.
Here is an official survey regarding the tournament during the week of E3.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HPMRWQ9It asks you to type in your favorite character. I trust you all will do the right thing and put in Ridley.
I did my part. DID YOU?!
-
Type in Sora? Type in Windwaker Ganon? Or type in Snake?
-
-
What would this accomplish?
Nothing at all, but I assume nothing I type in will do that.

Oh, thanks for the link!
And I naturally put Palutena, because obviously.
I wonder how many people are just going to use that one question to write in characters they want -
I put Mike Jones as my favorite character, now that Mac is in I need a new champion of Nintendo Obscura to crusade for.
-
Pic of the day. The leg and arm positions of some characters will automatically be mirrored when facing left or right. Mario, for example, will have his chest shown in the foreground regardless of whether he's facing right or left. This was quite a tedious task, but thanks to it we can show the best features of each character even better.
Here's another example: in the previous games, you saw the back of Kirby's head when facing left. Now Kirby looks great from any angle.
-

But… but... they asked Smash Bros Characters. Technically, Ridley is a smash bros character. :p
-
But… but... they asked Smash Bros Characters. Technically, Ridley is a smash bros character. :p
We're just being wishful :P
-
Ehm.. The game comes out in less than 4 months, they won't add anything.
-
Let them dream man.
I don't like the mirror effect, but I guess in this case I actually do ( ? ) Bowser looks incredible by the way.
-
I kinda think turning around is better aesthetically, but mirror effort is a neat little thing. Agreed on Bowser.
also: stream for Smash tournament is June 10th….7:00 PM Eastern time. 98% chance I'll have to work then. Crap.

@www.nintendolife.com:
Controller accessories were everywhere in the Wii era, with various companies fighting over a piece of the sizeable, tasty pie of the system's sales. We can expect that trend to continue to some degree with the Wii U, though the uptake has been slower due to its smaller fan-base to date. Fear not, third-party controller fans, there is a product coming out this Holiday season with which you can stuff your festive stocking, clearly designed to tap into the upcoming Super Smash Bros. craze.
We say it's for Wii U, which is only technically true. PDP (Performance Designed Products) has announced the "Wired Fight Pad" 'for Wii U', but in reality it's merely compatible with Nintendo's latest system by virtue of its support for Wii controllers. As the name suggests this is wired, and mimics the Classic Controller / Classic Controller Pro setup by plugging into a Wii Remote — if a game supports the Wii Classic Controller range — as the upcoming Super Smash Bros. surely will — then this will work.
That's not particularly impressive in itself, though more pleasing is confirmation that the design will take inspiration from the original GameCube controller, and courtesy of an official license with Nintendo will have a design featuring characters "such as Mario, Yoshi, and Princess Peach". It'll hit North America this Holiday season at a price of $24.99.
As you can see in the image above, PDP has previously released controllers — and many other accessories — on the Wii and other systems, in that case mimicking a mini-fight stick setup; with Wii U owners keen to use a GameCube-style controller on their new system, this could be an intriguing option.
We'll reach out to the company to check if a prototype image is available. In the meantime let us know if this is a controller you're interested in picking up at the end of the year. -

I have been disappointed that you changed your avatar.
-
I have been disappointed that you changed your avatar.
I know I did shame myself. On my Nintendo only boards I never changed it. If Ridley did get announced my Avatar would stay the same until Jinbe joined the crew. Why must I torture myself with guys who are seemingly to big for stages or doors?
Maxter, it's not about adding characters to this game in just a few months, who ever is in has been in for a long time. But just in case Ridley's only role is as a boss I am consistently preaching him for the future.
-
Frankly, I think the community as a whole is too darn attached to the Gamecube controller. I guess if it was entirely a Nintendo product, I would consider it, but the fact it's third party makes me waver.
Also, both the pro controller and the wiichuck options are ones I'm personally looking into, and the fact Sakurai plays with the pro controller solidifies my belief that that's the way to go.
-
I don't even see why the Gamepad isn't a perfectly fine option, but if not then the Pro controller seems 100% adequate.
-

I'm sorry but I got to back mega man. Not only is he my favorite, but I can't honesty say that I expect capcom to give him a game anytime soon. Smash may be all he has.
And I made myself feel bad.
Also is it just me or is that bowser wearing G-dorf's color scheme.
-
I wonder how many characters remain to be revealed… I mean, we're at 29, and Brawl was 35 characters (not implying there will be more or less characters).
We still have 13 veterans missing (not counting Pokemon Trainer or Snake). 15 if you include Roy and MewTwo. I'm not saying all of them are returning, but it makes me curious who is and who isn't. Money is on Wolf not returning.
-
I'm not sure I like the change. What about Captain Falcon having multiple taunts depending on if his back or front is to the camera? and I think that one of the strengths of Smash Bros is that the attacks are so well-posed and animated that they look good and readable from either angle. was anyone complaining about not always seeing the perfect front of the character?
But most importantly, are we going to get stupid shit like Link's sword changing hands when he flips around, like Vega's claw in street fighter?
