I feel so cheated out of an Usopp fight, but yet I can't stop laughing.
One Piece Chapter 742 - I'll always be close to you
-
-
That was shit…so much for Ussop's redemption. Way to kill the fight Oda, add into that stupid senor who franky fought and Oda is trying his best to kill this arc/
Usopp returning to face Trebol and Sugar was his redemption. That was it. Or did you expect him to beat down one of Doflamingo's top officers? Duh…
-
He could if he didn't act cowardly earlier, if you think efficient strategy the dwarves and robin should get trebol busy while usopp snipping the tatabasco into sugar's mouth. That's how things could've been made simple. Like I said, personally I think this is OK. But the story could be better than this, the build up was there and we know Oda is capable on doing that, and it disappoints many people when it actually went like this.
Trebol fodderize all the dwarves. Leo didn't even get a chance against Sugar and Leo didn't run away.
-
pretty good chapter, completely new face fault which just looks downright hilarious
The Kyros part was pretty good too, I feel immensely sorry for Kyros, to hold your dying wife in your hands and not even have her remember you as she dies, this will make Doflamingos eventual beatdown so much more satisfying
Although I'm disappointed that we didn't even get to see Franky vs the officers and Usopp vs Trebol and Sugar, it's like Oda is in a rush and doesn't want to waste any time -
with sugar ,dofla has probably lost fujitora's support too, since he is there to protect the people, the same people than will now want doflamingo dead
-
In skypiea, Sanji plus Luffy took down the ball priest, Zoro took down Ohm and Chopper handle Gedastu by himself.
But Trebol is surronded by a lot of people who wants a piece of him, So I don't think a Robin mano~mano is possible.Plus I want to see Cavandish in action.
-
@Buggy's:
Or did you expect him to beat down one of Doflamingo's top officers? Duh…
…
...
...umm...yes?
People expected more of a "I didn't beat Trebol, but I avoided him enough, and mangaed to cleverly sneak the pill into Sugar's mouth." -
…
...
...umm...yes?
People expected more of a "I didn't beat Trebol, but I avoided him enough, and mangaed to cleverly sneak the pill into Sugar's mouth."Again, that is not remotely possible. Trebol shot a fly in the middle of the head. Any shots Usopp fired towards Sugar will be intercepted by Trebol, not to talk of Trebol's speed where he can easily pounce on Usopp.
-

In the bottom panel, didn't Sugar technically touch Usopp to close his mouth? Shouldn't he be toyified?
-
I haven't replied to a chapter thread in a while and I'm only doing so now to address all this strange Usopp victory hate here.
It stuns me that people are upset with this. Usopp's main power, his main weapon, has always been his luck. I would argue even more so than Luffy. Usopp is lucky through and through. IT IS AN ASSET OF HIS. He won the fight because of luck. Just as he always has. To me, this is no different than when any other Strawhat wins. What did people expect? This isn't Naruto. Usopp wasn't going to look deep into himself and find a way to win against trained members of the Doflamingo family.
This is One Piece folks. The blend of comedy, drama, and action is the main draw and will continue to be. If you cannot accept that, than this manga is not for you.
-
Oh well, seems all the speculation about Kyros leg was spot on.
Disappointed at how things turned out with Usopp. Really disappointed. I expected him to grow a lot after his training and to show it off in this arc. I wasn't expecting him to defeat trebol or sugar, I knew that was realistically impossible, but at least to put up a fight, show a few new moves and being strategic-like.
Guess we just gotta wait and see what happens next week.
-
Nooooo general franky is defeated
Wow infinty number of toys gonna crush trebol
-

she needs to be willing to toyify you..otherwise she wouldn't even be able to eat
-
…
...
...umm...yes?
People expected more of a "I didn't beat Trebol, but I avoided him enough, and mangaed to cleverly sneak the pill into Sugar's mouth."Was never going to happen. Trebol has been portrayed as an absolute beast and for that matter Sugar is formidable as well.
Any disappointment felt is a result of reader's having their fantasies frustrated. The ending of the chapter was absolutely consistent with the situation and Usopp's character/place in the crew. It was also very funny.
-
So hoping this is not a fake out and Sugar really is down, there has been more then enough of this weird ass instant memory-wipe-people-are-too-stupid-to-wonder-how-they-have-kids-without-having-a-husband/partner thing.
Also I really wanna know how this BS works. Like did Scarlet not instantly wonder
1. Why they are at the red flower field waiting for someone
2. How come she has a child and who the father is
3. Why she faked her death at all.The last two are identical for king Riku.
Also why the hell did he not tell Rebecca that he's her father ? I mean, she knows about the toys and I assume she's not as daft to assume she was brought up a stork.
-
why Kyros had to cut his own feet? why don't he just cut the chain itself? If he's so strong, he should have cut the chain already. why oda why?.
but the funny things is we got law up there. he can provide him with someone's feet, perhaps -
Next chapter is going to be epic epicness, I can't wait to see Dolfa's reaction, and the fight against Trebol. Colour me excited.
-
Ending was pretty underwhelming and weird.
-
Guys, there's no guarantee this was Usopp's "fight" this arc. This real fights might be going to start now, or after Luffy's potential first loss vs. Dofla.
If Robin could stand up in a minute affter having her shadow stolen which should take what was it, three days? Then Usopp can can fight again after a while after this too. -
why Kyros had to cut his own feet? why don't he just cut the chain itself? If he's so strong, he should have cut the chain already. why oda why?
Erm read the chapter again, or wait…..read the entire manga again.
-
why Kyros had to cut his own feet? why don't he just cut the chain itself? If he's so strong, he should have cut the chain already. why oda why?
because nobody is able to cut kairoseki with pure strenght alone..maybe not even mihawk
-
@Devil:
Next chapter is going to be epic epicness, I can't wait to see Dolfa's reaction, and the fight against Trebol. Colour me excited.
Well, we still need Fujitora's Outlook part II before everything goes bunkers.
-
I like this chapter.
Yes Usopp had luck, yes he lost… Did you really expect he could do something or last long or make a plan while fighting 2 DD executives DF users (one maybe logia) all alone?
I think Usopp is grown a lot this arc, he fought giving all he got, even his life, to knock sugar out (not to win as 100T hammer shows).
Call it karma. Sugar really deserved that scary-to-hell moment.
Curos epic story is epic.
Too bad for Franky, but I think he's Supaaaaaaaa and will rise and fight again ftw!!!
I really want to know how all this will end! -
One question… If everyone though Scarlett died... How does the public know that Rebecca is from Riku's family?
Probably it was Dofla and his crew who snitched her because they knew
Monet I guess.. she was a spy sent by Doflamingo into the Riku Kingdom before the fall of the King.
-
Suddenly realised with Sugar neutralized not only will Rebecca and the citizens of Dressrosa have some adjustments but so is Dofla.
I suspect that he's disposed of quite a few enemies this way over the years. What if there's been some that frighten even him? Dofla may now not so much want to win back Dressrosa but just get the hell out of town.
-
I don't know, maybe I like to clinge on to any hope I can find, but I found Meh's way of thinking last chapter's discussion thread to have some solid reasoning behind it.
Usopp might not have had a regression, just that, in his mind, he was "coerced" to act against overwhelming odds by a bunch of (extremely cute and kind-spirited) dwarves that, in fact, kinda. . .kidnaped him and Robin? and he had to lie his way out, or be stripped of all their belongings and left for themselves on Green Bit. Also, Usopp has been acting this very lie all this time to keep the situation rolling, so yeah, might be he never even considered the Tontatta's his true comrades.
Of course, for all of this to truly work Oda should've put the emphasis on this fact with Usopp's internal monologues instead of the thousand "I'm scared, I'm out, I'm scared, I'm out" scenes we got, which makes us think that he just dumped the dwarves out of fear instead of "they kidnaped me to begin with, serves them right".
And I don't dislike Usopp being defeated against a logia user with super strength and an overpowered toy making fruit user all on his own that are part of the, possibly, strongest Shichibukai's crew. It's a sticky situation (got it? got it?) where equal amounts of people would be calling it shitty writing if Oda let Usopp defeat on his own two of the highest ranked members of Doffy's family. Someone pointed out the Jabra scenario and I agree; Usopp got steamrolled in a matter of seconds against him. That's what happens when Usopp fights someone who's on a complete different league than him. Yeah, I know, there were other options aside from defeating them both. . .
Still, yeah, Oda, show the fucking struggle. It seems Usopp hold out magnificiently to the point of losing consciousness, which is pretty hardcore, that must have been quite the fight. . .but when we're having the 15th off-paneled scene since the time skip it's all getting a bit depressing.
I still believe in Oda's ability to tell the story, he still has that obsession over details as shown during the last chapters, he still can make a 18 page chapter feel like a 28 page chapter, he still can create some effective drama with some genuine emotion, but it seems like he doesn't consider fights or exciting scenarios for entertaining scenes important or worth diving into with full attention and fanfare anymore.
Again, the arc's climax will tell what it's gonna be.
For me first best and most frustrating of Odas of creen fights after time skip was Sanji vs Vergo. He shown Sanji struggling there but its fair to say we didnt seen most of their fight.
Its all for a reason now. We are still guessing how strong for example Franky is if it took 3 of Doflamingo fighters + Marines to beat him up. Franky might not be so far behind likes of Trebol for me. Yet people complain over Franky not shining instantly. Strawhats had it quite easy on Fishman Island, here they are overwhelmed by enemies and their biggest hope was SOP to work out so fighters and all people turned into toys would wreck havock on Dressrosa. As for Ussop vs Trebol - its like Van Augur trying to fight Ace before Ace-BB duel. He didnt stood a chance against Ace same Ussop didnt stood a chance against Trebol. Still he lasted through flashback length so to say lol, for me fact that he wasnt instantly murdered like in his fight with Jabra- as I mentioned before- is suprising.
Funny that all complainers on Ussop and Franky dont see that One Piece is a bit of a challenge to read and fully understand, thats its not so obvious. We are hungry of some action in proper 1 on 1 fights for each strawhat but it will be quite a while before we will get something like that.
As for downgrading Kyros because the one that gave him wound was Riku- we still dont know how strong Kyros was or is now. When Scarlet was kidnaped by pirates he wrecked 2 ships presumably by himself. It looked like tornado went through them and he still probably holded back because he was afraif to hurt kings daugther. Kyros still can be in league with Doflamingo and I really expect Law to help Kyros get back his leg somehow(but please dont let it be Dellinger leg lol - of course a joke :P). Law should be able to "cure" something so simple very fast as he made many centaur-like creatures back on Punk Hazard. I would like to- thats my liking not something that will most probably happen- if Kyros would be the one to hold back Fujitora while Luffy gets to Doflamingo. As for that seastone cuffs I do wonder how they gotten on Kyros because no DF user could have did it himself so maybe it was some kind of trap or Joker did cuff Kyros with his strings. As for reveal of somebody strong fighting with Kyros during those 3000 fights- like Mihawk sparring with him n stuff- it can get to be shown later when all people will be getting to remember Kyros or somehow later in the story- this memory thing is too good window for Oda not to use it this way.
I also expect Luffy to fall for Doflamingos wire trap same like Sanji did but to be saved by Kyros or somebody else, then continue to fight. Sanji is still just like Luffy CQC fighter mostly and we seen that not even Jozu was capable of getting free of Doflamingos wire trap. This would mean that Luffys haki + strength must have had been better than Jozus for Luffy to get free by himself. But we will see.
As for Sanjis current situation I think we will get to see him bit later while getting close to Zou- he will be holding off both of Big Moms fighters or at least Pekoms while Sunny will be getting close to island(also he will crack Pekoms turtle shell- small and bit randomish prediction). So when they will be close to island there will be some of Laws allies there and they(or something else) will make Big Moms ship turn back as it will be overwhelming even for Pekoms + Tamago.
This way Sanji would be shown having some very nice action against really strong enemies, he will score another success and we will get to Zou secret of Cesars Crown safety there being revealed. All in one or two chapters in total centered only on this would be great.Oda is offscreening a lot of action but his work is still far superior to how he managed Marineford in my opinion. It all makes sense, is backed up by logic, we are shown all places from time to time and this arc is set up for even bigger things in future. Making allies, not showing strawhats fights in proper way, matchings that are pretty random as it seems for now with strawhats being overwhelmed. They will make plenty of allies in this and next arc and then somehow beating Yonko as enemy will seem as something realistic to try.
-
Erm read the chapter again, or wait…..read the entire manga again.
I've read the entire manga. I don't remember anyone cut the kairouseki before with his pure strength. please do tell me
-
The important thing is that Usopp fought, suffered, and won in the end.
(through getting beaten so badly)
Looking forward to that next chapter!
Hmm, what about Trebol now I wonder… he's got Usopp all tied up and is unharmed. -
Not this again. People fail to understand the Strawhat, no way Robin is beating a top officer.
No way will Oda make other 2 top officers be taking down by likes of Zoro(Pica), Bartolomeo/Rebecca(diamanté) and Trebol taken down by Robin. Just nope.
Dellinger is waiting for Robin at the entrance.
Dellinger is standing over beaten Franky in this chapter, he isnt waiting for Robin.
-
Ok …what exactly happened? Did Usopp pull a Perona and scared the hell out of Sugar?
-

With all of these off-panels happening all around, this is really solidiying my feeling that we are still not halfway at the Dress Rosa arc.
Up until now, the only complete fights we got are only the Block B to Block D fights. None of the seats and Doffy have shown half of their true potentials, the only enemy down is Sugar, Sabo's face is still not revealed, Sanji's group and CP0 is MIA, and even the potential important characters of Princess Manshelly and Kanjuro are still 0 in terms of panel time. This is Oda hastening his pace, and we still have a bunch of plot lines to go through.
I am also on the side of people wishing Oda to slow his pace, but to imagine him showing every moment and fights, we will only be done for the Dress Rosa arc for what, 3 years? I imagine it to be really hard to be on Oda's seat right now.
-
Guys seriously? Franky couldnt handle 3 Officers, what makes you think Usopp could handle 1 and a freaking executive member. These 3 executive members are stupid powerful. Diamante isn't even scared or phased about the whole Jesus and Sabo fighting happening 20 feet from him. Trebol is a logia, to the point which making him explode doesnt even hurt his body. Pica is probably another logia. Realize that these fights are happening off screen because the true fights HAVENT STARTED YET. All the straw hats have beaten are the 2 Hax devil fruit users in Dofla's crew, to which we don't even know where Jora is, or what sugar'll do when she wakes up.
To be perfectly clear: Usopp will probably get another fight soon, Franky will now be able to fight the officers alone and probably aided with the marines now distracted, and everything else will be handled accordingly.
This arc is probably not even half way over, we still have 2 more flashbacks (Law and Doflamingo) and about 10 different and immensely unique fights (1 for each of dofla's remaining members). That gives Robin AND Usopp a chance to shine again. Just wait.

he didn't have to "handle" them.
usopp's shtick have always been lies and tricks.personally I expected him to use those to KO sugar, maybe using trebol in the process, since he doesn't seems too smart.
-
I liked how it ended actually. It has nothing to do with how competent Usopp actually is, it's just a funny gag. I haven't liked the deliberate degression of Usopp's character, but how Sugar got taken out just was pretty funny to me. I'm pretty meh about the royal family stuff, though. I like toy soldier, but I just don't care about Scarlet, she has no personality other than "loving mother".

This post is deleted!

did you just answer your own question?
Nope. it doesn't mean someone couldn't do that. he just not trying. it's like telling we can't travel by the plane because nobody do that before
-
I was iffy on the ending. I mean, if Usopp spit fire into her face and she fell over, that would be fine. It seems weird for her to foam at the mouth because of a facial expression, though. I know it's supposed to be silly, but it pushes that line a little too hard. Look up the word 'verisimilitude'.
-
….Huh, I think I missed the Franky part. re-reads
-
Did someone spot Dellinger here?
http://eatmanga.com/Manga-Scan/One-Piece/One-Piece-742/page-18
good eyes, no wonder franky got trashed 4 v 1 lol
-
The thing is, they built up to "scaring Sugar" in the first place, that's why it was amusing to me.
-
Sucks a lot of off panel stuff had to happen but pretty good chapter. Usopps face was hilarious. Kryos flash back was pretty sweet. Badass he had to pull a saw and cut off his own leg. Only thing that bothers me is how was he even chained up in the first place. 3000 wins never touched speed of a comet etc etc and then easily chained…

Agreed. I think the DD arc started with PH and will end in DR, but as you pointed there are bunch of plot lines still to work on, till now we got sugar defeated, dressosa story (maybe not all yet), curos and rebecca story, dwarf past (not all yet)… No real crew fight excpt Luffy in the tournament... So the real "thing" starts now. All SH will fight their own fights and all the plots will come to an end.
By the way say hello for me to Mario Mario when he finds you. -

Agreed on his pacing. It's troubling- it's too fast, yet there is too much story/characters here to be told/shown. He tried to solve it with sending Sanji off, but that only helped so much. It's still a clusterfuck of characters.
-
Was i the only one who got gossebumps seeing Kyros cut his own leg, without second thoughts, and attacking DD? That man really is a beast!! Great and very sad flashback, poor guy seeing his wife dying and she didn't even recognize him because she didn't remember him =/ Despite what the majority says, that last page was hilarious and i really enjoyed it, it was a nice way to knock sugar out of the picture considering he was up against Trebol, so yeah… for me an awesome chapter. Would have liked to see more of the colosseum battle but the flashback was quite good and necessary in my opinion. Now the only thing remaining is seeing the memories flowing back into people's mind and let the riot begin. Almost didn't recognize Jola in the flashback =P http://eatmanga.com/Manga-Scan/One-Piece/One-Piece-742/page-11

If even Fairy Tail can have women kick as much ass if not more, than One Piece should show it easily.
Lucy's achievement in the tournament was nullified by the opposing team member nullifying her magic finisher out of the stands, because the people running the tournament have no way to notice someone is cheating (proven a few chapters later when Laxus was ganged up by the whole of Raven Tail and there was an illusion of him getting beat by only one guy). The whole stadium was booing and making fun of her and she was reduced to tears, this being the first time she tried using an actual spell and not just summon her, well, summons to do all the work for her. When she got told by Natsu to get up and not give a shit, she is next royally trashed in the swimming competition, after which she is "automatically" left out of the combined team and does exactly fuck all for the rest of the arc.
Oh and that same arc the 12 year old new guild member Wendy fights a dragon who'se special power is making people's clothes dissapear.
So please, don't overestimate Fairy Tail.
-
Nope. it doesn't mean someone couldn't do that. he just not trying. it's like telling we can't travel by the plane because nobody do that before
So you think that Kyros is being hyped to be stronger than any other character we have seen in Kairoseki cuffs, so far? Strong enough to break 'em? You crazy.
-
Nope. it doesn't mean someone couldn't do that. he just not trying. it's like telling we can't travel by the plane because nobody do that before
the fact that the kairoseki is undestructable was one of the main plot point of enies lobby,as it was the reason why they HAD to retrieve all the keys to robin's cuff or otherwise they wouldn't have been able to free her.
also i'm pretty sure somewhere in the manga this fact emerged again.
it's pretty much common knowledge that you can't cut kairoseki in the onepiece world, that's why he told you to read the manga again.
the only one we have seen being able to cut kairoseki is law,but because his power doesn't use strenght to cut things,so it doesn't matter how hard a material is.
-
Man, Usopp is funny but also very sad that he didnt managed to do anything by himself. Same goes to Franky, he screwed his design to be stronger and he cant beat a weirdo in diapers, what a let down.
Curos' flashback has a nice tragic part, but his love story with the princess feels rushed and his character is a bit dumb. And Oda really does have a thing with dead mothers, does he have a trauma with that or something? :P
dude wtf he was against 3 of dofla officers and a vice admiral, are you serious?
-
@No:

Also why the hell did he not tell Rebecca that he's her father ? I mean, she knows about the toys and I assume she's not as daft to assume she was brought up a stork.
It's not really that hard for her memory to patch tbh.
1. A general safe spot on Dressrosa, they were away from the fighting.
2. Rebecca was an immaculate conception/Scarlet was raped and never saw the "father"/She had a one night stand and doesn't have any real information about the father etc. There's a few ways that one could go.
3. She had an illegitimate child and shamed her family/she didn't think her child was safe/ she didn't want to be a royal anymore etc. Also when their memory is altered, they don't instantly start thinking about any discrepancies, they aren't even aware that there ARE any discrepancies. For example, look at the first toy we saw with the "human disease", his former wife only became alarmed once the gaps in her life had been blatantly pointed out.
Kyros probably didn't want to tell Rebecca he was her father because he couldn't stand to see her not have any idea who he is. He's already watched his wife die with no recollection of him, so why go through that again with Rebecca? Overthrow Doffy and then she can find out herself.
