Aside from the Twinrova segements, I finished both Zelda Oracle games and Link's Awakening DX. Out of the three, I liked Link's Awakening the best despite the issues I had with it (trading quest, the tutorial messages being poorly coded, and the long description for the compass). It was just a healthy mix of puzzles and combat, unlike the Oracle games which focused on one over the other.
Speaking of the Oracle games, I've actually owned Ages on the GBC years ago and used this moment to sort of revisit the games. As much as I appreciate the approach for harder puzzles in Ages, there's aspects about it that didn't age very well. The overall look of the game felt very rushed compared to Seasons. And combat wise, it wasn't all that fun or interesting. Especially the boss battles. Seasons had some surprisingly aggressive bosses and they were fun to fight.
But yeah. All great games. Eagle's Tower was the best dungeon out of the three. Along with all the other dungeons LA. They actually felt like varied locations. If I can choose a dungeon from the Oracle games, it would be the Ancient Temple in Seasons, if for the traps. There was this one trap in particular that actually caught me off guard by Zelda standards. It started out in a hall with a large red rupee, and upon picking it up, the whole room starts to shake, and a few seconds in confusion later… the walls started closing in! When that trap crushed me, I expected to be sent back to the beginning of the room with half a heart lost, but no! The trap outright ate every single heart and Link instantly died! That was lovely. Mainly for the false sense of security thinking a Zelda game would always throw me a bone for mistakes.
Looking forward to picking up Minish Cap next.
Aside the Zelda games, I been also playing Disgaea D2. I barely had it for a week and I'm already 50 hours into the game. Most of that was spent in Item World and gazing at menus pondering and planning my own battle setups, but I'm surprisingly enjoying the story as well. It's actually fun compared to the second game, which was my first and only exposure to this series.
So yeah. Games. With gameplay. Stuff worth talking about. Lovin it.
