@taboo:
i didn't think you'd be the type of person who'd act like this over a difference in opinion, and a harmless one at that. Come on.
I like how you can afford to call it harmless when hypocritical pseudo-lib hero worship is very much part of a system that negatively impacts my life, that's cool.
@Taggerung:
Maybe you're so impressed by new pope that you can't stand to read someone bash him without making a big to-do about it.
This is some heavy shit we're posting now.
Count yourself lucky that you didn't criticize somebody who is TRULY unassailable, like Neil Patrick Harris or something.
You would have been doxxed within minutes and people would have thrown rocks through your window by now.
@taboo:
too bad i'm not the one in a big argument about it here
Yes you are, you just don't perceive your opinion as being inherently political or an active part of the conflict.
Easy to appear rational when you're speaking from the same place as those who have power. Anybody who disagrees must be unnecessarily angry and irrational, huh? What do you call an opinion that cannot be contested? Well, some would call it a fact. Some would say it's a fact that the Pope and liberal heroes like him have the best interests of everyone at heart. And those people would have no problem valuing the Pope's existence and his opinions over those of the queers and others who criticize him. I know my existence is perceived as peanuts compared to his. But when I encounter a belief that is not perceived as such, including your belief that you are not an active participant in this fight, I call it the basis of hegemony. You people are disgusting. I don't even really dislike the Pope as a person, because I've never met the guy. Of course, I disagree with his Catholic beliefs. But what really disgusts me is just how much these people who are systematically transformed into beacons of hope and progress, are valued over the people who live the struggle every day, who claw their way toward self-acceptance and self-love, fighting the endless voices who threaten them. You couldn't care less about what actual people go through. Y'all just want the sexy headline, "Gay marriage in Texas", "Gay marriage in Kentucky". Because those in power have transformed gay marriage into the beacon of hope and progress, the issue that you should care about, and without any personal investment or experience, you have no reason to believe otherwise. Meanwhile, every single one of OUR rights is unsecured, and bodies are piling up. Disgusting on every level.
Hero worship, and the belief (that is not perceived as such) that heroes are worth more than the common person,
is the greatest evil this world has ever known. A symbol should never be worth more than a human being.
@taboo:
i try to judge people based on what they do, despite whatever background they have, and that's why i think the pope is pretty great. thats it.
Thinking back on my post, this is the biggest joke I have ever heard.
