What's up with all the Rebecca hate? Damn. I personally don't mind her character, I don't love her though.
Anyway, wasn't she taught to fight this way by Kyros and her grandfather?

Surprised that, for a pretty decent, even nice chapter, people are flipping their shit so incredibly much.
Rebecca used a dull blade, what did she pretend to do? I don't know, maybe the same thing King Riku fucking pretended to do in the EXACT SAME IDENTICAL scenario? No one said a thing back then. Good.
Chapter was ONLY the Kyros reveal? Hmm, not exactly? In fact, we probably got the best character moment for Rebecca and Toy Soldier in the entire arc, and didn't you guys want character development? Now you don't? Good.
You think the pace was too frantic, for the past two weeks Oda has slowed it down and decided to make things a bit slower and more developed? Boring, nothing happens, the plot doesn't advance, Dressrosa is too slow moving. Good.
Kyros = Toy Soldier is NOT a plot twist. It's a reveal that Oda has been hinting for the entire fucking arc. You didnt' get surprised by the reveal? But of couse you didn't, cause Oda dropped about 798 hints at it before finally setting it in stone.
Also, yeah, the whole Leo speech was a mirrored scene from Usopp's praising of Luffy during Punk Hazard. And who was Leo interacting with during this speech? Usopp, of course.
That being said, of course, I have complaints: Sugar just. . ."forgot" to say the contract with freaking Kyros, the most dangerous man in the entire island? Hmm. Veeeery logical indeed. I hope, as Aohige "implied" in the spoilers section, that there's something else in there. Like, she chocked on a fucking grape the moment she was about to seal the deal and he used the chance to run away. Much better than, setting the mission before the invasion began to, obviously, take the most dangerous element in Dressrosa out of the way, she actually goes and forgets the most crucial part. . .
Also, Sabo sending Barto to defend Rebecca makes little to no sense. They don't even share the weakest of emotional links, why does he care about her well-being if she's a near unknown to him?
On the other hand, hey, Rebecca got her head smashed with a mace!! Wasn't 80% of the forum complaining that they wanted a pretty girl to be brutally hurt, and that it was incredibly sexist that it didn't happen? Well, here you have it. Too bad now the girl in question is slightly incapacitated from the hit and is helplessly lying on the floor as a result. Oops, that's even more sexist, isn't it? Now we wish she was still the "untouched phantom princess" of the Colosseum who noone ever managed to even injure, right?
Well, all in all, yeah, there were a few controversial moments in this chapter, but the wave of complaints are totally uncalled for.
Oh, and the jump around this chapter was, in fact, very smart on Oda's part. In fact, it was a focused chapter that changed points of view BUT flowed from character to character by following the same narrative point, and coming full circle at the end of the chapter.
That makes almost 2 and a half chapters almost entirely center on the Usopp/Robin situation, which is pretty good imho.
Wow, this perfectly sums up my thoughts on this chapter.
It's all good, but I can't help but wonder what that sword is for then? And if she's really that stupid that she expected she would make it work somehow even after seeing first hand Diamante's ability, and him helpfully explaining it?
I guess she could stab someone, if she actually wanted to hurt anyone. But here, she finally charges to hurt someone, but she wouldn't actually hurt them bad, since the blade is dull. Seems conflicting, to say the least.
And there's the fact she just told Soldier he doesn't have a chance against Dofla in a flashback. But she will, once she got mera mera? Because? Again, conflicting.Instead of watching an actual fight, I have to see her dragging along pathetically while the rest of the fighters stand around and comment. It's like Marineford all over again.
Cutting is not the only way of attacking. You could kill a person with a wood sword, just like you could kill a person with an hammer. King Riku just used a blunt sword too and nobody talked about that, Sabo is using a pipe, nobody saying nothing(there are even people saying is cool), Rebecca uses a blunt sword than suddenly shit storm.
About Diamante explaining is power. So if next Sabo attack him with his pipe, you will say he is stupid too, right? Because Diamante just explained is power.
so trebol is flammable, good thing for him he didn't end up fighting sanji like we predicted
Do people know that Diamante covered his leg with his steel cape? I have read a lot of posts talking about Rebecca and her blunt blade when that's not even the problem. It would have made no difference whatsoever if the blade was sharp.
what do people think the dwarf princesses role will be? she's not just gonna appear at the end of the arc with nothing to contribute right?
I can understand why she acted that way, same way I understand why Vivi acted like she did.
This right here is my problem.I'm so tired of Vivis. It don't feel like copying anymore, but recycling.
Mustache twirling villain is boring right? Well the Riku Family is just boring on the other side of the coin.
And we get it,Doflamingo was super-duper evil 10 years ago.How about he do something right now?
"Bartolomeo, protect that girl!"
Honestly, the ill feelings towards Rebecca are not reasonable. This chapter confirmed that she is intended to be a 16yo kid that only gets ahead because she is protected by Cavendish, Diamante, Bartolomeo, Santa Claus etc. If you grasp this essential idea, she does OK - she evades what she can and she hides behind the strong fighters that are mostly sympathetic to her cause.
The only thing that is idiotic about Rebecca is some people's idea that she is supposed be some kind of a fighter,a gladiator that wipes the floor with everyone. She is clearly not.
Also, Sabo sending Barto to defend Rebecca makes little to no sense. They don't even share the weakest of emotional links, why does he care about her well-being if she's a near unknown to him?

Last time, and the first time, Sabo talked with Rebecca he said that he knew everything about her situation, that he would be a little harsh(the revolutionaries destroying Doflamingo, the country), but in the end everything would end well. So that make the reason why he doesn't want her to die in the Coliseum, because he knows she is part of the family that revolutionaries want to govern Dressrossa and probably the revolutionaries want them to join the revolutionaries. Think about after they dethrone Doflamingo, King Riku ask about his granddaughter and Sabo says "oops, I forgot to save her, because at that time had nothing to do with my business".
I don't think she being lying on the floor is sexist in any way. They were in a fair fight, and she was in the competition, but got pounded, why would that be sexist at all? Because she fought and got hit?
This chapter is everything I want from One Piece.
Is just me or AP forums was down for some time?
I assume that Diamante will be defeated by Bartolomeo and Rebecca together, while Burgess will be defeated by Sabo.
I guess Diamante's fruit is useful is he has a ton a steel folded stuff all over him. Still he might as well just carry a club if he's going to use a club. He's like a swiss army knife. Trebol is way scarier.
Cutting is not the only way of attacking. You could kill a person with a wood sword, just like you could kill a person with an hammer. I think the only reason people have an issue with it is the fact that she uses blunt object to fight that's in the shape of a weapon that looks like it could actually cut things and do a decent amount of damage. If she had a blatantly blunt weapon such as a mace or a club then I don't think nearly as many people would have an issue with it. The sword was just misleading.
Also, Barto may not have any kind of emotional connection to Rebecca, but as we've seen throughout the progression of Dressrosa he actually gives a shit about protecting people who he fights with. Plus, his new senpai told him to do it so you know that he's going to end up helping her anyway.
Do you honestly think that Usopp is going to run away and leave the Tontatta for dead with Trebol and Sugar? That doesn't even make any sense! He told Leo that THEY should run away because Trebol is really damn strong and he's worried about them; it's not like he was saying "Sorry Leo I'm leaving I hope that you and the rest of the Tontatta can take care of this!" after seeing what he has seen. Leo gave him the reason for the Tontatta staying to fight, and like you said, Usopp is not the kind of person who would run away when friends are in danger. I'm willing to bet that the next time we see him that he's going to make some sort of move. Keep in mind that Usopp is not a head-on fighter and if he actually did fight Trebol and/or Sugar head-on he would be taken out really quickly.
Plus, even if you still aren't convinced for some reason, Robin is there. Even in the very minute chance that Usopp was that big of a coward that he'd want to leave and risk the lives of the Tontatta, there's no way Robin would let him leave. This is their mission that they have to carry out one way or another.
"let's make a run for it robin wile we still can"
of course he's not gonna run eventually , but this altitude is so out of character even with his cowardness it doesn't make sense , the guy was in an island where he could be eaten every single minute , but now he sees his friends being killed in front of him and he still needs a speech from leo to man up and do what he's supposed to do from the beginning ! he's taking too much build up that it became irritating , just let's move on already
I enjoyed the chapter alright. Since I never thought much about Toy Soldiers identity, it came out at me from the blue, even with all the hints that are now obvious in retrospect.
And with this, the scene where Rebecca tells Toy Soldier that she believes Kyros never existed in the first place is given so much more weight.

The reason why he's acting this way is because he believes the Tontatta are much stronger than he is and thought they could handle the situation on their own, and after seeing that they're unable to beat Trebol he just feels as if they are all outmatched strength-wise. And let's be honest here, Trebol is way stronger than Usopp is, so him having that conversation with Leo about fleeing the scene only makes sense. He's genuinely worried about everyone's lives.
However, now Leo has made it clear to him that the Tontatta are not going to run away even if it means they'll be killed or turned into toys, so I can pretty much guarantee that this'll be Usopp's turning point. He's not the kind of person to let people down when he knows that lives are on the line.
I will say that not a lot really happened this chapter, and I feel like they could've condensed some of the scenes a little more to make it seem like things moved faster, but what's done is done. We'll definitely get something big next chapter.
I wonder if Ussop still has that Sogeking mask on him. He could put it on before confronting Trebol/Sugar for some master fanservice.

Haters believe she's a weakling.
Tards believe she has some hidden strength.
'Till now, haters are winning the competence of "I DO(NOT) LIKE THIS CHARACTER", which is a competence we do every arc.

first u didn't read the first line of my reply where he was asking robin to flee with him and let the dwarves he couldn't care less about them
now hold on , u say he has a reason to act that way cos he thinks trebol is much stronger than him
but now he's gonna act all brave and save the day cos of leo's speech !! how does that change the fact that he still thinks trebol is way stronger than him ?!
it's not about how strong trebol is , even if it was DD , fleeing and letting his friends down after promising to watch their back
is not the likes of usopp's character even before the training
i still hope for a huge pay off for this but i just can't hide my disappointment for what's happening
Diamante looks extremly weak right now compared to the other officers :/

He's the fighter groups leader! There's no way he's the weakest! Where did you get that idea anyway?
Diamente is a very bad match for Bartolomeo, Diamente will just fold barto's walls with his ability
Sanji could still arrive at the harbour in tandem with the bigMoM ship, although it is highly unlikely.
good chapter … as expected from oda
Diamante looks extremly weak right now compared to the other officers :/
Honestly, while Diamanté hasn't been shown doing anything spectacular, he has to be a lot stronger than he is letting off. Doffy did trust him to fight people of at least Luffy's calibre, but then again, Dofla is also the idiot who trust Trebol to be the body guard of sugar, so yeah.
Hum. A bladeless sword. It seems that the game is rigged - the gladiators don't even get real weapons.
Nice work, Doflamingo. I dislike you even more.

Whats wrong with Trebol?

Is no Doflamingo's fault that the Riku family is so passive and doesn't like to hurt people.

ummm…. what?
it's clearly expressed that dimante is suprised by this (the guy who runs the coliseum)
it's very obvious it has to do with her pacifist like nature, that she herself chooses not to have a bladed sword, ever read rurouni kenshin?
and why do you hate Doflamingo he's awesome! he's supposed to be an evil manipulative bastard (well still being incredibly suave)
Any more thoughts on what trebols ability is? Flammable snot doesn't seem very logia anymore…

he already stated it's the sticky sticky fruit
Haven't read all of this week's thread yet but this chapter gave me a new thought (not new to some) as to who will "handle" trebol.
I have this theory that Bartolomeo and Cavendish are in more ways than one opposites. And i also believe that both will be apart of Luffy's alliance in the future. because of this, (completely conjecture) with "Lucy" telling Bartolomeo to protect rebecca which will lead him to fight diamante, i believe Cavendish will be dealing with trebol.
i mean, picture it…. (dont mind my shitty photoshop lol)

@Light:
He's the fighter groups leader! There's no way he's the weakest! Where did you get that idea anyway?
He hasn't done anything outragous like wielding a ship like a sledgehammer or manipulating castles. I guess that's enough for some people to downplay him.
My thoughts on the chapter:
It was pretty reckless of Trebol to simply destroy the executive tower like that. I guess his "gag" is that he overdoes things (like sniping a fly and setting the tontattas on fire)
Usopp. I believe that Oda is having trouble writing Usopp in these type of situations where he has to take action. We already know Usopp is a coward, but it seems like Oda is delaying the inevitable. Oda is still trying to find that steady balance between not making Usopp too brave and not making him have a massive regression. We all know Usopp is going to do something awesome and clever against Trebol and/or Sugar, but I really don't like what feels to me like forced motivation to get him to act.
The flashback. While some thought it was unnecessary, I enjoyed the flashback for what it was. A couple of pages of relationship growth between Rebecca and the Toy Soldier. We've seen these type of scenarios before, but it was a nice inclusion in my opinion.
Rebecca. It appears that she's definitely going to need saving (which I'm sure everyone called weeks ago), but I don't know why she decided to attack Diamante with her blunt sword so suddenly. Unless she was just trying to get his attention, she should have known that she stood no chance against him.
The Kyros reveal. This reveal should have been done earlier, now that I think about. At the beginning of Block B, everyone speculated that Ricky/Riku was Kyros. Then when it was revealed he was the former king of the country, fan speculation changed to the Toy Soldier possibly being Kyros. I feel like this reveal would have been better if it was included in the chapter where we learn that the Toy Soldier is Rebecca's father. While it's nice to have confirmation on Kyros' identity, this delayed reveal is kind of awkward.
i've always wanted to see a women char who is a physical fighter. robin or nami is more of a technical fighter, califa was great but then she got her soap power that make her more technical (turning people to soap instead of straight up beat them). i was hoping becca will be the one, but she's dissappointing so far. she hold herself back all this time though, there is still a chance that she can become mega rebecca that kicks someone's ass when she go all out. i want to like you becca, so you better do it. :getlost:
oh, i do prefer funny/unique chars over some plain, cool, strong guys like law or mihawk. i just want to see a physically strong WOMEN char.
16 chars of Boa Hancock.

I would if the pic was posted …
well that sucks… anyone mind helping me out, ive blanked on how to input the file. its been awhile
he already stated it's the sticky sticky fruit
Thats just the name though, still dunno what sort of ability it really is
With each passing chapter, I'm getting sicker of Doflamingo's actions. We can only imagine what Kyros would have felt when he was powerless to stop his wife from being slaughtered, his daughter from being orphaned (kinda) and all his loved ones from being hated by an entire country. I really hope Dofla doesn't manage to escape his comeuppance at the end of this arc.

You just didn't do that O'Dane
Is Kyros gonna be the new Wyper?
No way he can single-handedly beat Doflamingo, but I can see him doing a bit of initial damage before Luffy takes over.
Thats just the name though, still dunno what sort of ability it really is
Some trees produce a sticky substance called resin that is flammable, so this dude posses a Paramecia fruit.
use this:
tinypic
thanks, dont know why i had to do it the more difficult way
this is the shitty pic btw lol
!
Lao G beside doing his G pose in this chapter was shown from new angle.
We can see something like electricity symbol on his shoulder and his body is kind of covered with arrows of sorts.
So I checked on internet and found this in electricity drawings so to say.
G and arrows are symbols of Galvanometer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanometer so I wonder if that points to his Devil Fruit power and if yes then what properties does it have, what power it gives to Lao?
I bet this Kyros guy told the Tontattas that "You know, I can beat Doflamingo if I turn back!" and Tontattas obviously believed him.
Yep. That has to be the reason why Tontattas so blindedly believe in him.
Yay, Laboon balloons!
I dunno, I liked the whole Rebecca/Toy Soldier flashback. We're getting key emotional moments here, especially that Kyros the toy is the person that is keeping the whole operation together. To be trapped in such a form and yet…..also loved Leo's speech to Usopp.
Speaking of.....yeah, this is the moment where Usopp sees the extent of the dwarves sacrifice, and gets ready to pull off some awesome moments. I think it was a little forced, but also I think it works well.
As for the colosseum, finally Rebecca gets serious with determination! ...and gets smashed by Diamante. Hopefully she'll get back up and continue on! ...because I'm worried Sabo's whole "help her!" to Barto will go somewhere....
but anyways, it's a good "in-between" chapter. Team Robocop is in the middle of the SOP plan while the battle for the Mera Mera rages on. Also, I'll admit I prefer when Oda doesn't jump around X many times in a chapter, but I'm dying to know what happened to Team Sanji.
I bet this Kyros guy told the Tontattas that "You know, I can beat Doflamingo if I turn back!" and Tontattas obviously believed him.

Kyros is a real threat you know or at least was 10 years ago
well DD turning Kyros into a toy first before everyone else means that DD can/may be defeated by Kyros…doesn't mean DD was scared that he would be beaten but still a precaution turning the strongest fighter in the country into a toy first.
What if DD was the 1 to cut Kyros leg 20 years ago as a part of his plan? which got Kyros to retire...Then DD went to Mariejois to free the slaves(executive officers) and comes back 10 years laterWe do know that CDs like to give devil fruits to their slaves for pure enjoyment...that could be the reason why everyone in DD's crew got fruits.
Random thoughts lol
