I don't know if any of you guys have heard, but the UK is facing the worst floods in at least 20 years, maybe longer. I've certainly never known it this bad, and we're still getting hit with Atlantic storms, so it's going to get worse.
My commute into work is even more of a mess. The main line out of London is part-flooded and the signalling equipment is underwater, and so hardly any trains are running, making that stretch extremely slow. Then the whole area around where I work has localised flooding in places, meaning the few routes still open have horrendous traffic. I posted some photos of one of the lakes that used to be a road on Friday.

and it got worse over the weekend. This is usually a field, somewhat set back from a small river.

so I was working from home today because the transport companies are warning against any non-essential travel (however I can't get my VPN working so I'm going to have to head into the office tomorrow anyway…).
But this isn't the worst part. Whole towns are getting inundated with floodwater, including Egham in Surrey, where I lived for three years while I was at university. It makes me feel extremely subjective that these photos of flooded streets and water in living rooms hits me much harder when they're streets I know, and living rooms that I've visited friends in. I still have many friends living in the area, and some have evacuated, others are on the verge of evacuating, keeping their vital possessions stored in the car and one eye on the water outside. One friend who had to leave her home is pregnant and has her due date tomorrow.
I'm finding it really scary. My flat in London is fine but flood warnings are in place right across the South of England.
