I disagree, he didn't think they would be able to get underground or get out of the coliseum. Not underestimating if preparing for the worst, while this arc isn't over yet, it is safe to say if Doflam doesn't have anything else in place then he's screwed. He should've had more than Sugar and the wax guy in the factory and he hsould've prepared for Luffy to be able to escape.
Sabo and big mam are the only things that he didn't plan for and even if he wasn't underestimating the SHs, he wouldn't have been able to counter.

He's countered all the strawhats, already taken out one of he absolute strongest members (Law), had no trouble beating one of their top 3 (Sanji… who he knows is no longer on the island anyway) defended his priorities with his strongest minions, guarded all the weak points on his base, knows more or less where everyone is, and all his plans are working. Instead, he included him first in the group, by name and moniker, completely associated as a Strawhat piece and a known quantity. I have zero conviction about Kinemon joining in the long runand currently don't see any reason for him to do so... but if in two years and two arcs from now he does... this is the exact moment I point to as Oda starting to set that up. Oda chose to phrase it that way, not Doflamingo.

Think desa meant Croc's methods (the bomb, the key being swallowed, splitting up the agents to get Vivi, etc.) covered more bases than Doflamingo did with his methods. Although Crocodile also didn't have all these non-SH forces trying to stop him at the same time.

2.) Dwarves, he knows of their existence and the fact that they aren't happy about their friends being slaves, Dofla should've prepared for their eventual betrayal.
3.) Violet's betrayal, the others should've informed him.
Things DD should do, or expected to happen and/or shouldn't say out loud, if he wasn't underestimating the SHs
1.) Shouldn't question Franky's fighting power, when he's already defeated 2 of his officers by himself
2.) Should've prepared for if the dwarves attacked (which is outside of SHs involvement but he should have made the connection that SHs attacking could've given the dwarves reason to attack).
3.) Should've prepared more people to defense not just the toyhouse but the actual underground where the factory is
4.) Should've take down violet
5.) expected luffy getting out. He could've easily just busted through the walls, I doubt the whole of coliseum is made of sea stone.
6.) Shouldn't underestimate the other SHs fighting prowess, he seems to think lightly of them especially Zoro.

And Diamante might be the champion right now, but I'm very excited to see what kind of powers he has. He can't be a powerhouse, because Burgess would one up him. And how would he get around Barto's barriers. And how could he keep up with Rebecca? He seems complacent enough to think he can handle all this… There has to be something special about the colosseum endgame, it's probably not an all-out brawl.
Outside of Kizaru and Kuma, does Hakuba have the greatest speed feat so far? I'd have to say that he was certainly faster than Luffy if it all happened in the blink of an eye while no one could react, even Rebecca only barely dodged his sword strike, aided possibly by the fact that she was the last target.
Awesome chapter though, good exposition and the Cavendish reveal of Hakuba was just amazing, I wasn't too fond of his character before but this moved him up my list somewhat. I wonder though whether Hakuba comes out whenever he's sleeping - that would be awkward for other crew members and nearby innocents - or is Cavendish aware of his split personality and abstains from sleep as much as possible, which might explain why he was able to sleep so suddenly and so deeply during a free for all.

I think Doflamingos status as top underworld broker in the new world and the fact that he planned and succeeded to get his hands on the Mera Mera no Mi just to distract Luffy shows a better mind for tactics and psychological warfare than crocodile has displayed.
And Crocodile planned and organized his baroque works coup for a rather long time from inside the country, DD managed to overthrow the Rikus and became dressrosas new sweatheart in just one night after showing up.

For the people saying Doflamingo is underestimating the Strawhats, what would you do differently in his position? Given what he does and does not know, the only way in which he's actually underestimating them is in his gloating to Riku. As far as his actions go, I think he's being fairly cautious. He's doing everything in his power to get Fujitora on his side and he's ensured that the Strawhats are split up and that Luffy is distracted.
Sure he seems confident in his crew's abilities, but then why wouldn't he be? The alternative would be admitting that his crew is weak, and what kind of captain would do that? He's miscalculated a few things certainly, but I don't think he's made any glaring underestimations. The only real question is why he returned to the palace instead of killing Zoro and Kinemon.
Kill Zoro and Kinemon. kill Law. Go to the factory catch Franky and torture him to get info on the position of Robin and Usopp. If that doesn't work cut a limb or two(won't cause much trouble anymore) and keep as a bargaining chip. spread spread half of the grunts in search of Usopp and Robin.If I can't find them let Law and Riku with Fujitora and Pica then go to the coliseum to be sure everything is going without problem with Luffy

She's introduced as a character who wants to cause change but admits she is incapable of doing anything with her strength, hence why she wants the Mera Mera fruit. Strike one. Then we see her being amazed at everyone's "power" in the Coliseum, when characters like Luffy haven't even shown their best yet. All the other real players (Diamante, Burgess, Barto, Cavendish etc) barely batted an eyelid. This is not a character with the ability to win the tournament without deus ex machina. She then proceeds to try to cheapshot Luffy and epic fails at doing so, since we have all these wrestling entertainment references in this thread already, this is the type of thing that would lead to a "heel turn" in the WWE. Stuff like this should be what Jeet and Abdullah are doing, not a supposed protagonist with a big role in this arc plot wise. Strike two. Her backstory is basically her being a crybaby that relies on toy soldier for everything. I normally get pretty emotional with One Piece flashbacks, and especially sympathetic towards the little kids that are involved (Robin, Koala etc), but I found myself giving zero fucks about Rebecca's predicament, and all my interest being on Toy Soldier/King Riku. She just strikes me as a character with no individuality and pretty much makes her existence what others tell her to be. This is again seen when she arrives in the arena, she just sucks it up and takes in the "one with tainted blood" comments that everyone in the arena calls her. I understand that she loves her kingdom's citizens and whatnot, and doesn't want to do anything to anger them, but come on, at least have some pushback, don't just stand there waiting for prince charming (Cavendish) to come to your rescue. Strike 3. Already this character is basically a "face" that displays "heel" traits, but unlike most characters like this, she isn't actually accomplishing anything with her own power.
As for her actual performance in the arena, the deus ex victory isn't even the worst part. She basically spends half the time getting chased around by fodder like Rolling Logan, doesn't display any real feats aside from decent speed and CoO (both of which she pales in comparison to what we're used to seeing), and then just stands there taking in Sulieman's taunts, again showing no pushback/retaliation whatsoever As for the victory itself, I don't see how people can read this is a legitimate win. Cavendish was clearly the class of the block, and Rebecca did not "block" or "dodge" the attack. She just managed to move enough that the hit didn't land with full on power, and she was knocked out for a minute instead of out cold like the others. The worst part about this by far though, is that the victory serves no purpose and is only a pyrrhic victory. Did Rebecca gain the respect of her citizens? No, they're all cursing at her and branding her an illegitimate winner (which to an extent is true). Did Rebecca show any traits that indicates she now has the independence and/or strength to create change? No, Cavendish did all the work and decided to take a nap. Did this win help develop her character or strengthen her resolve? No, she merely walked off without a word, and as usual, soaked up the audience's insults like a used sponge, and did nothing to squeeze out the contaminated liquid. Does this move her further towards her goals? No, unless Sabo or Burgess agree to bend over for her in the arena, and in return she bends over for them in the bedroom, she's still not getting anywhere near that Mera Mera no Mi, she's still not going to have the power to get back her country, and she's certainly not any closer to living a peaceful life with Toy Soldier, who unlike Rebecca, is actively coordinating a revolution and accomplishing things that WILL fulfill their goal.
No character has annoyed me as much as Rebecca since Gekko Moria, but he at least has the excuse of being a pathetic, self loathing villain. Although Usopp's "ME FEAR EVERYTHING BUT LITTLE GIRLZ" attitude since the timeskip is getting up there as well.
Since Cavendish can't whithstand Hakuba fighting style, why would Hakuba appear in a match that requires Cavendish to stay conscious. It seems like Hakuba doesn't give a fuck about the Mera Mera. Or maybe someone drugs Cavendish, he had a lunch in front of other contestants so it would have been easy to trick his food. And his wierd behavior before changing makes me wonder…

Ah man this was some good stuff after the long wait.
Oda manages to keep Cavendish looking strong, flesh out his character, have Rebecca win without beating him or compromising her characters values and hype up her speed even more.
Also concerning a little scrap I'd posted about before, namely where Cavendish's name comes from;
**I'd posted before that the name of the street in "The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde" where Mr.Hyde commits murder is "Cavendish Place". I'd thought they might be related since Cavendish had the whole beautiful exterior/ugly personality thing going on.
Looks like this chapter has pretty much confirmed that theory, with the introduction of Hakuba. Cavendish's own personal Mr.Hyde.**
Great way to put it! Though I'm glad Rebecca is moving on, she has too much significance to be thrown out of the ring just yet. Plus she was the only one who observed what happened and was fast enough to react to it.
That is pretty cool information you have there. That face Hakuba made was so un-Oda like it just totally through me off. I loved it though, reminded me of some older favorite Shounen mangas from 2007.
I wonder what Sabo will do in the final rounds? Can't wait to see what sort of abilities he has.

he prepared for EVERYTHING. BB being alive and making it back and try to talk to the leader. The bomb (having it as a backup, hiding it and the failsafe), the fact the rebel leader would find out about or try to talk the king before. Robin's betrayal.

That was a lot of potential wasted… and I don't even mean Meadows, I mean Sorceror Mummy. Block D had awesome contenders. Hakubo is Ok I guess, I wonder if Cavendish realizes he "sleepwalks" or if it'll come as a surprise to him. I don't mind Rebecca evading the attack, as it had been clearly stated that was her game: Dodging. However I would have wished someone else was strong/fast enough, or had CoO so they could withstand the attack as well.
I don't think Trebol and Sugar will be able to turn the contenders into toys with all that's going on currently, so I guess there's still a chance to see Sorceror Mummy, Damask, Orlumbus, Meadows and co in action.
The chapter was great, worth waiting three weeks for. I really hope the next break is going to be at least in two or three months, because I'm fed up with breaks. But Oda-sensei's health is more important, so…
So we have another freak as a new character. I would like to emphasize, that no faces in Toriko (the author of which is famous for doing scary faces for the characters) can be compared with evil Cavendish's face, it's just too creepy. Perfect design for an evil alter-ego. And suddenly Cavendish becomes the most interesting person here on AP.

Franky is actually losing to Señor Pink? Seriously? I just hope that they are an even match for each other, and it's not just Señor Pink, who kicks Franky's butt. His ability is tricky, I wonder how will Franky eventually defeat him... Without his Iron Pirate it will be a much of a big deal.
Law sitting in Heart seat is a great touch, I personally expected him to be in a cage, but it seems DD's taunting affinity is showing itself in the best possible way.
I didn't really understand, why was Riku so frustrated about the morning events, but I guess he hates Doflamingo so much, he doesn't care about what blame should he put onto him...

Violet... Oda did a great job for actually disorientate us, for what she's planning. Her true motives may lie in connection from the government, and she is actually leading them into a trap.

I agree with Monkey King! Doffy probably should've taken the dwarwes more seriously considering their stealth and physical abilities. They could be sneaking under his palace anytime without anyone noticing, just like now!

I normally get pretty emotional with One Piece flashbacks, and especially sympathetic towards the little kids that are involved (Robin, Koala etc), but I found myself giving zero fucks about Rebecca's predicament, and all my interest being on Toy Soldier/King Riku. She just strikes me as a character with no individuality and pretty much makes her existence what others tell her to be. This is again seen when she arrives in the arena, she just sucks it up and takes in the "one with tainted blood" comments that everyone in the arena calls her. I understand that she loves her kingdom's citizens and whatnot, and doesn't want to do anything to anger them, but come on, at least have some pushback, don't just stand there waiting for prince charming (Cavendish) to come to your rescue. Strike 3. Already this character is basically a "face" that displays "heel" traits, but unlike most characters like this, she isn't actually accomplishing anything with her own power.
As for her actual performance in the arena, the deus ex victory isn't even the worst part. She basically spends half the time getting chased around by fodder like Rolling Logan, doesn't display any real feats aside from decent speed and CoO (both of which she pales in comparison to what we're used to seeing), and then just stands there taking in Sulieman's taunts, again showing no pushback/retaliation whatsoever As for the victory itself, I don't see how people can read this is a legitimate win. Cavendish was clearly the class of the block, and Rebecca did not "block" or "dodge" the attack. She just managed to move enough that the hit didn't land with full on power, and she was knocked out for a minute instead of out cold like the others. The worst part about this by far though, is that the victory serves no purpose and is only a pyrrhic victory. Did Rebecca gain the respect of her citizens? No, they're all cursing at her and branding her an illegitimate winner (which to an extent is true). Did Rebecca show any traits that indicates she now has the independence and/or strength to create change? No, Cavendish did all the work and decided to take a nap. Did this win help develop her character or strengthen her resolve? No, she merely walked off without a word, and as usual, soaked up the audience's insults like a used sponge, and did nothing to squeeze out the contaminated liquid. Does this move her further towards her goals? No, unless Sabo or Burgess agree to bend over for her in the arena, and in return she bends over for them in the bedroom, she's still not getting anywhere near that Mera Mera no Mi, she's still not going to have the power to get back her country, and she's certainly not any closer to living a peaceful life with Toy Soldier, who unlike Rebecca, is actively coordinating a revolution and accomplishing things that WILL fulfill their goal.
No character has annoyed me as much as Rebecca since Gekko Moria, but he at least has the excuse of being a pathetic, self loathing villain. Although Usopp's "ME FEAR EVERYTHING BUT LITTLE GIRLZ" attitude since the timeskip is getting up there as well.

And Diamante might be the champion right now, but I'm very excited to see what kind of powers he has. He can't be a powerhouse, because Burgess would one up him. And how would he get around Barto's barriers. And how could he keep up with Rebecca? He seems complacent enough to think he can handle all this… There has to be something special about the colosseum endgame, it's probably not an all-out brawl.
He sat and watched Luffy and Chinjao's clash of Conqueror's Haki and didn't break a sweat.
Diamante is obviously incredibly strong.
He might not be faster than Rebecca, stronger than Burgess or have a special ability like Barto's, but he's not gonna be the arena champion for nothing.
He's the top guy in the division of Doffy's crew that seems to specialize in unarmed combat. He's going to be a beast.
She did in fact dodge the attack. Which was underscored by characters dialogue afterwards
it should be a big deal and she was dodging Suleimon's attacks too. She was jsut BARELY slower (well at least it seems like that to me) than Cavedish's attack.
Alright, finally got a chance to record my thoughts on the chapter! Overall I thought it was a decent chapter, 3/5. Not bad but not incredible, just sort of an average chapter.
With that being said, I am HYPE to see Burgess, Bart, Sabo and Rebecca duke it out. I mention this in the video but I am sure Sabo and Bart will team up to take down Burgess and once they realize Rebcca is Luffy's friend too, it'll be the three of them VS Burgess and, ultimately, Diamante.
Did anyone else think for a second that the wind Bastille was descibing was Dragon and the "certain pirate" was Luffy? I thought Hakuba was a nickname for Dragon or something, haha.
Either way, I really enjoyed Cavendish's development.
I actually thought that the moment I read the title, damn, I thought Dragon was there because Sabo was too, and he made Rebeca won without beeing seen, but then I was disappointed :S, anyway Cavendish wasn't half bad :)
Kill Zoro and Kinemon. kill Law. Go to the factory catch Franky and torture him to get info on the position of Robin and Usopp. If that doesn't work cut a limb or two(won't cause much trouble anymore) and keep as a bargaining chip. spread spread half of the grunts in search of Usopp and Robin.If I can't find them let Law and Riku with Fujitora and Pica then go to the coliseum to be sure everything is going without problem with Luffy
He was trying to get an uneasy ADMIRAL that liked those guys to side with him. And keep up public appearances. He can't just murder three guys in the town square and not have it affect his reputation or get the admiral antsy.
He wants Law alive for his own reasons.
He has his strongest guys at the factory already to deal with Franky. They'll presumably take him out… and then he'll get info on where the rest are.
He knows where Luffy is. He's getting constant updates about the colosseum... and "Lucy" is still totally there. He doesn't need to check on it personally.

I agree with Monkey King! Doffy probably should've taken the dwarwes more seriously considering their stealth and physical abilities. They could be sneaking under his palace anytime without anyone noticing, just like now!
They haven't done anything for a decade. Why would they happen to do it now? How could he possibly be expected to predict that Usopp would know well of the true story of Noland and be able to trick the dwarves? Or that they'd meet the dwarves in the first place? That the dwarves had been setting up anything at all?
Hell, if they'd staged their uprising one week, or even one day earlier, he would have found out almost immediately, been able to set all his resources on it, and squashed it. No big.
You folks are suggesting that Impel Down should have been prepared for Luffy to rally bonus helpers at every single floor of the prison and then be whisked away to a secret hideaway full of revolutionaries that they didn't know existed. Or that at the war Sengoku should have expected Hancock to fall in love with Luffy, and that Jinbe, Crocodile and Ivonokov to show up and turn the tides and that Black Beard would betray them and release some strong guys. These characters don't have Omnipotent Audience Vision. To have planned for every single insignificant little detail, to be aware of their enemies secret innermost thoughts and schemes, including things they had no way of realistically knowing about or anticipating… is BAD WRITING.

Oda's dodged that. Dofla has completely covered everything he knows about and then some, and IS taking extra precautions to deal with the things he reasonably can expect. (Such as not knowing exactly where Robin, Usopp and Kinemon are... hence the extra protection on his assets.)

1.) At this point though, he's aware of Violet's betrayal (or should be), this isn't planning ahead anymore. He should very well have prepared she would help in some capacity, like leading some of them to the factory.
2.) Vergo, Monet, Baby 5, Bufflao, and Cesar would like a word with you…

Luffy wouldnt have been able to get out in the first place, if Barto hadnt saved bellamy leading to bellamy showing the way out.

Anyone think it'd odd that DD says "and with treacherous blood in his veins…Monkey D. Luffy"? Something about the void century and the world nobles contra the ancient kingdom with the D lineage? Then again, might be reading to much into this... But treacherous is the last word I would use about Luffy. Does he betray and deceive? Is he backstabbing and false?

Again, with the amount of dwarf hostages he had and Violet at his disposal, he probably assumed that either they wouldn't dare try anything or that Violet would be able to inform him if they did.
If he was to actually know of the dwarves plan, and let them continue as they were with only some flimsy counter, that would be underestimating them.

the point is that luffy is not supposed to come out of the colosseum because there is no exit anymore,it's only with bellamy's help (that should be dead in the first place if not for bartolomeo) taht he managed to come out and go to the palace.

Great way to put it! Though I'm glad Rebecca is moving on, she has too much significance to be thrown out of the ring just yet. Plus she was the only one who observed what happened and was fast enough to react to it.
That is pretty cool information you have there. That face Hakuba made was so un-Oda like it just totally through me off. I loved it though, reminded me of some older favorite Shounen mangas from 2007.
I wonder what Sabo will do in the final rounds? Can't wait to see what sort of abilities he has.

Yeah, Hakuba just looks really awesome. I kinda liked Cavendish's original smarmy and egotistical persona, as well as his poster stabbing shenanigans. However, this just added so much more to his character, I love it.

As was noted it was not luck, or Cavendish holding back. It was entirely Rebeccas skill that allowed her to dodge that attack.
