Well, now you've gotten me excited for Iron Knight.

Yeah, uhh… usually Shonen Jump tends to axe series that really wouldn't work too well in the long run (with some exceptions). Beelzebub never really tends to be very high, and well, Bleach is Bleach lol

Assassin Classroom and Shokugeki No Soma say "hi".

Hey I'm also disappointed by Bleach's placement. It still has a few series below it afterall
-
I think he meant to say "jump axes every stupid new series"
-
Well, after checking out Iron Knight…
Wow, this thing is frighteningly similar in execution to Hachi. Like to the point where I have to wonder if they're preparing to axe Hachi for poor ratings, because I can't see them greenlighting something so identical without that in mind. Kid with love interest that is far too open to be an obvious point of romantic drama who gets predictably swept away in the first chapter, kid wakes up after calamity has transformed normal modern society into monstrous hellscape, kid turns out to be just another one of the monsters who must use his powers against them...everything is the same. But despite how much I like Nishi's weirdness and originality in Hachi...I think Iron Knight is better. It's REALLY well done. Great art, excellent use of tension, well-executed all around.
I haven't read Iron Knight yet, but I did like the one-shot Goblin Knight.
I thought it had the most potential of that one-shot batches, so was kinda meh when Hime Dol got the green light first. -

every new series that i like and plan to read let's put it that way.. also AC i'm reading it.. :p

Just finished reading Iron Knight.
Whoa, massive changes from Goblin Knight! The Knight itself is pretty much the same, but the protagonist and the heroine went a completely overhaul in design, personality, and background.
And you're right stephen, this is nearly identical to Hachi - except the story telling is far more comprehensive and clean.I liked the Goblin Knight backdrop of the protagonist's brother being gruesomely executed in front of his eyes, but this new version raised the despair level up a notch. The protagonist got changed from an outcast loner to a model child, who will likely go through quite a few changes in his personality due to the catastrophe. It makes for a much more interesting kickstart.
Also, decapitated heads on pikes!? In my Shounen Jump!?
-
Reading the raws is slow and painful. :/
! So he wants to be a hero or a police officer… And then shit hits the fan. From what I can tell of the story, it's just as you guys said, cleaner and more complete. I also happen to like the knight idea more than the dog idea in Hachi, but that's just me.
-
I liked the Iron Knight one-shot (you can read the french scan there) which was IMO much better than the Goblin Knight one-shot.
Reading the raw, it looks even better. So, I look forward to seeing the first chapter translated.
-
I've read Iron Knight and also prefer it to Hachi.
I couldn't get into Hachi at all, although I liked certain ideas of it.I liked the note Iron Knight ended on(which didn't feel like like a cliffhanger to me despite arguably being one) and hey it's refreshing that the chapter concluded with an English title(Rise) that was fitting.
But that might just be the influence of all the hilariously bad bleach nonsense titles. -

Huh, I'm impressed by World Trigger's climb.
-
It still sells like shit compared to other titles up there though.
The new volume comes out soon, so perhaps it improved.Surprisingly I'm still enjoying Isobe, he has more gag up his sleeves than I initially expected.
At this rate I think it'll cement itself as the new Masaru-san/Jaguar. -
You guys are making me interested in Iron Knight.
But if it's as you say then that rank for Hachi down there don't look good.
-
one day I'll come look at this thread and hunter x hunter won't say "Hiatus"
that'll be the day

Damn haven't checked this thread in a while and its still up there urgh, I might read it again since by episode 20 I was bored by the repetition, maybe it actually has changed by now.

It's sitll pretty repetitive, but its had its moments where things actually happen.

Wow, Nisekoi is actually low on the list? Below Bleach?! Have those Japanese kids finally realized what a generic and formulaic piece of shit it is? If so, it took them long enough. Of course, I'm sure it'll shoot back up in the ratings once its (undeserved) anime adaptation starts airing…
-
It's a shame Komi Naoshi's first hit is Nisekoi, because he's shown he can be pretty creative in his oneshots.
-
Can't we just pretend Nisekoi doesn't exist and mourn the passing of Double Arts instead?
But seriously: Claris for the opening, HanaKana voicing a main character, etc. This will probably sell well for all the wrong reasons.
-
Whoa what, Claris? That's big news.
-
ClariS? You mean that band who performed the same song three times in Madoka Magica, which was in itself the same song that they also performed twice in OreImo? Wonderful, can't wait to hear that song a sixth time.
…Yeah I'm not terribly fond of them. I mean, I'll give them some credit for their singing-voices not being the same old overly cutesy high-pitched stuff we get from practically every jPop-artist ever (Ironic how this duo of high-schoolers manages to sound more mature than most other Japanese pop-singers…), but I genuinely do feel that all their songs sound basically the same.
-
I agree with everything Vegard has said, Claris is just too boring besides their voices being (thankfully) different from all the horrible generic J-Pop stuff.
-

I dunno man, for all the brilliance that was Double Arts, it had a butt-ton of problems, not the least of which being Naoshi's plot stalling. At least within Nisekoi it's an actual part of having a long-term, successful romance comic, to kick your heels and go off on tangents.
Which, sure, perhaps I'm just defending Nisekoi here, seeing as I love Naoshi's work, but a lot of people seem to go into that title expecting something entirely different to the actual genre trappings it's within.
-
Not something completely different, but I never imagined it would be such standard ware without any unique characteristics. It's a waste of talent imho.
-
I'll never understand people wishing for a manga they don't like to stop being successful.
Naoshi and Matsui are not forcing their fans to buy their manga. They're buying it because they enjoy it.
Is it that hard to accept that other people can have a completely different opinion on a manga ? -

I will gladly accept that for every series currently running in JUMP.
Except Bleach, because Kubo is obviously so fucking proud of his accomplishments he has to plaster his own inane platitudes on his furniture (and also constantly lies to fans that he'll actually follow up on things and there was also the whole "next arc is going to be Chad's arc" thing, which would be reason enough for me to hold a life-long grudge)
If the man is in love with his own inane nonsensical retcon bullshit to this degree, then Bleach should tank to snap him out of his delusion and get his editors and assistants to stop giving each other piggy back rides and actually doing their fucking jobs, thereby maybe making this series not painful to read.

Their job is to make money, not to make stories tailored to snarky twenty-somethings from outside Japan.

His editors should check that what he's writting is at least spelled right (WHY ME SAD), and his assistants should help him draw/plot out the story.
And clearly none of that's happening. :P

Not sure if serious :O
Also not sure about the atmosphere in the room at present. Best keep an eye on the backdoor just in case :ninja:

Forum rep is way below Kubo on the scale of universal badness. Start looking for that backdoor of yours.

Debating life from god's viewpoint. (Cynical but you can't argue against that.)

Let eat the world's end. (I think bleach has been unsalvageable for long time, at this point I think we should just let Kubo end it on his own terms.)
These remarks are brought to you by the courtesy of the 560 and growing collection of bleach titles. (Like a well placed quote of Konfuzius or Socrates these can carry profound meaning and can enrich your own conversations, choose the right title for the right moment!
If you don't have the blue white forum design you can probably read this and are thus in on the joke, congrats!) -

I don't think the assistants should help him plot the story. They could say something, but the author can easily disregard what any of them say.
Well the editors in the end are just advisers and maybe not even they know how to pronounce things right( just joking). With the power Kubo have won with Bleach success year after year, I don't think any editor has a seriously power to correct him.
Think about it:- The editor say that Kubo should do things differently, refute the name that he delivered and says for him to do it again, but this times with his corrections.
- Kubo argues, because he is the perfect artist he thinks he is.
- Hours of discussion between Kubo and the editor
- Days of discussion between Kubo and the editor
- Kubo goes talk to the Editor in Chief
- More Hours/Days of discussion
- The schedule is behind, they need to hurry
- Kubo says he knows what his doing, after all he being doing a Famous series for 13 years.
- Editor give up
- Kubo draws the manuscript that he wanted
- Editor gets a bad image, because the great Kubo made a complain against him
In the end his just not worth it and Kubo does what he wants, just like Togashi. The magazine can change Editors for him, but they can't change him(at least while Bleach runs in the magazine).
The better thing the Editor can do his trying to bring the best out of Kubo's names even if in the way he have to accept more than what he would like. -
@No:
His editors should check that what he's writting is at least spelled right
so what's your excuse?
-
He doesn't have editors, that's his excuse.
-
-
so what's your excuse?
Proper grammar and spelling has always been optional on the internet silly.

Is it that hard to accept that other people can have a completely different opinion on a manga ?Eh, while I agree in general, as far as JUMP is concerned, the number of seats are severely limited, bro.
I can completely understand why someone would want their "non-favorites" to open that seat up for something else. -
Eh, while I agree in general, as far as JUMP is concerned, the number of seats are severely limited, bro.
I can completely understand why someone would want their "non-favorites" to open that seat up for something else.Except that's hardly what I see when people say they want a manga to fail.
They just want to be proven right because they can't accept that other people don't find the manga they like shitty.Even if it was what that they wanted to express, that still doesn't make sense to me.
Wishing for a successful manga to fail, which results in its fanbase being disappointed and the mangaka losing its job, for the hypothetical possibility that a manga they may like replace it just doesn't seem right for me. -
I never said that I wish the author would fail, I just said that I discontent with him "wasting" his ressources on a successful, but generic series instead of something that had a unique charm like Double Arts.
But then again, maybe his success allows him to get a larger "period of tolerance" in WSJ for his next work. -
Eh, while I agree in general, as far as JUMP is concerned, the number of seats are severely limited, bro.
I can completely understand why someone would want their "non-favorites" to open that seat up for something else. That is the exact reason I want to see Naruto and Bleach end already.
