Meh it happened so quickly that I didn't give it much of a thought. Just another element of his raptor powers i guess.
PS: probably didn't give it much thought because I was enamored with a grumpy Dio in military garb.

Do you know what REALLY should have been explained? How Diego was able to turn people into fucking raptor trees and raptor lamps in a fucking instant.
And why didn't he do that to Valentine?
To be honest, when Dio took that stand from its original user I was happy, and when I read what Johnny said about him stealing everything he had up to this point was pretty cool because it made much more sense. BUT the thing is, all that time I thought he only was able to turn HIMSELF into a dinosour, having him turn others just fucked it up I think.

He already turned those fleas into dino-fleas back in Kansas(?) so it was already fucked up.
But yeah… The fact that he didn't even try to turn Valentine into some kind of reptile, or vocalize that he was going to try, is kind of dumb.

I.. totally forgot about the fleas.
but yeah, to me its just one bad thing (moment) drown into hundreds that are good. :L

Okay, I am getting closer and closer to the end of part three, Abdul is alive, eh?
I don't know what to say about that, there's a certain character in SBR who was also shot in the head but survived. Also, Polnareff do talk a lot, so yeah. :L
@RobbyBevard:
Heck, I still haven't been able to read Jojo because I just can't get past the art. (Despite everyone saying its great and its longevity.) All I really know is the old anime from like like 15 years ago. Which was awesome.
How about you give the new anime a try then?
If you like it enough, you might even end up putting up Pillar Bobarts as your avatar.

Nope, you're not the only one.
Done with part three and.. that was pretty fucking satisfying.

It had one of the best climaxes but the ending imo was weaker than some other parts.

I can't say I noticed that, but maybe I will when I finish reading the whole thing.
by the way, what do people usually think of the forth part? I think the beginning was the strongest yet, but yeah, what do you think?

Nah it was just my personal opinion.I thought some of the things didn't really make sense/lacked proper foreshadowing.
Personally,I think that part 5 and 6 had better beginnings, but that's just me.

Foreshadowing that Star Plantium was capable of… that? Yeah, I guess you're right. I mean, it could've been done better, but its still pretty amazing.
and what about the whole part? my friend said its the best next to SBR and that got me too fucking excited because I love SBR to hell and back

Well tbh there was very vague foreshadowing he was capable of it in the first chapter. Also how Jotaro got stronger when he got angrier, and how Joseph didn't turn into a vampire when resurrected. But yeah it was pretty amazing.
Yes your friend is right but all the parts are really good anyway.

Part 4 is good, but lately I've noticed it's getting hyped up a lot.
It has decent characters and some good fights, but there's no sense of adventure whatsoever, they stay in the same town the whole time. It's got some mystery-solving elements, and people compare it to Persona, but I'm not sure how much it's a "mystery" when you clearly know the perpetrator from the moment he's introduced.
it's fun, the art is pleasing, and the character interactions are good. it might just feel a little tame compared to the scale and body count of parts 3 and 7.

JOJO CHARACTERS ANNOUNCED FOR J STARS!

Is Jotaro already playable? Because if not this would be a suprise.
Is Jotaro already playable? Because if not this would be a suprise.
Nope, he's not. They probably chose them because of the anime's popularity
No Dio. noooooooooooooo
No Dio. noooooooooooooo
Well, thus far, only protagonists have been announced. So maybe bad guys will get their turn later?
Cool news, to bad the game itself is looking to be just a generic anime fighter without really good mechanics.
Ehm, so I am almost half way through Part Four.
And just let me say..
The fights are cool, they're not as frequent as they were in part three, but I am 100% fine with that. We had a shit ton of fights in part three and the fights in this part are cool when they happen.
Josuke is damn cool. I had my doubts about him at first, but turned out he's REALLY amazing. I think that little cliche where the main guy gets furious when someone insults something of his was pretty well done here. I like his fixing powers.
The side characters including the stand users who joined the "good side" are just amazing. I love, LOVE the way everything about them was handled, their adventures with the main cast and the side plots they got involved in (I am pretty sure they all are going to join forces fighting the guy who'll try to fuck up the world this time around)
The way the town is "evolving" is neat, shows that Araki is a genius when it comes to keeping track of things. and its a pretty cool way to make up for the lack of travelling in this part.
Jotaro and Joseph appearnces add up nicely to all of that. I am also half sure Polnareff is going to show up too and I can't fucking wait.
This is my favorite part after Steel Ball Run and I am not even half way through yet, shit.
I think if most Jojo fans would vote for their favourites SBR, BT and Diamond is not Crash would all have very good chances to get into the Top 3. SC is pretty cool as well, but you notice that it is a bit brought down by the novelity of stands, resulting in some rather cliche powers and fights at times. Not to mention that Jotaro is also in DinC, which enhances its awesomeness.
Thinking about it, I'd say that Stone Ocean is probably my least favourite part followed by Golden Wind and Phantom Blood who share the second-to-last spot.

When I try to rate the parts I read I always leave Phantom Blood out, I mean, its good, but on the other hand its just TOO basic for it to be compared to the rest.
I am excited for 5 and 6, for them to be the least hyped of the whole series, I wonder whats the reason for that..
About SC, for the shit ton of fights we've been through in that part, I find it a little unfair for me to complain about the genericness of the abilites that were shown.
It would've been awesome if there were less silly and gimmicky Stands in it, but at least the struggles against them were still entertaining, even the more generic powers in the bunch.

Actually I find part 5 pretty good… it's just not Top notch like the other jojo parts... part 6 on the other hand is meh for the most part...
Diamond is Unbreakable
Stardust Crusaders
Battle Tendacy
Phantom Blood
Golden Wind
Stone Ocean
In that order.

Golden Wind and Stone Ocean had pretty good fights and good characters but the worst endings and the worst villains imo, especially Stone Ocean. What otherwise, would have been one of the best parts up there with SBR,was completely ruined by the worst villain in the series and a couple of incredibly broken stands and wierd objectives.
I actually like Stone Ocean mostly because of the ending. Part 6 is tied with Part 4 as my second-best part (1st being SBR, naturally).
I don't understand how Stone Ocean could ever be considered somebody's least favorite part.
My least favourite part would be Vento Aureo. But it still has a great amount of great battles, Grateful dead/Beach Boy is one of the favourites in the whole series, and characters, I love Mista and Doppio. If I had to give a 1 to 10 score it would not be less than 8, and for me that's kinda rare.
Every part is great. Some more than others.
Let's just keep that in mind as the mantra of the thread
Stone Ocean was a headache, and force myself to read.
Jotaro and Weather Report were the redeeming qualities.
Stone Ocean has arguably the best character development/most identifiable character arc for a JoJo in the series before the reboot. That reboot probably happened because things were getting a bit stale, though. A lot of the fights were meh-ish.

True. I really liked F.F., Jolyne and Hermed but they were wasted on imho mostly bad fights.
! Especially Dio's other sons (excluding Giorno who sadly didn't appear) were huge disappointments imho.

The reboot happened because it was the best part of the entire series.
Josuke on a motorbike.
I APPROVE.

You'll appreciate this great character analysis of Jolyne I stumbled upon
I know that Josuke is your favourite main character but in some of your posts you said that Jolyne is the best Jojo, and I was wondering what you meant by that. She's probably my favourite protagonist but one of my friends finds her mediocre and i'm really bad at explaining why she's awesome. So if you could explain why you like her it'd be much appreciated since then i'd be able to explain to him why his opinion is terrible.
(rolls up sleeves) (cracks knuckles) (kill bill sirens start to play)
i would say jolyne is just objectively the Best bc she both has a great character development arc* AND perfectly embodies the joestar spirit/the essence of what it really means to be a jojo (*I LOVE JOHNNY TOO A LOT but i feel his character is very explicitly supposed to be…taking apart what we would expect from a joestar, especially a johnathan joestar) and the only reason she isn’t actually my Favorite is bc i am just weak to certain character types as a matter of subjective personal taste
jolyne starts out frankly kind of immature and whiny, when she and jotaro have their first real conversation in years she’s pettily vindictive and aggressively passive-aggressive (he deserves it no question tho), she has a history of acting out for attention and was probably definitely the kind of shitty impulsive child who wore happy bunny shirts and hot topic accessories and listened to avril lavigne or blink-182 or. evanescence. i don’t know. i’m just listing off things that were hot shit when i was in middle school at this point
so this pretty much normal, relatable teen kid is suddenly framed for murder, unknowingly dragged into this sinister plot to get at jotaro, and she realizes what her dad has been doing for her all these years (an amazing insight given that jotaro is about as emotionally available and communicative as a brick wall except a brick wall could actually keep jolyne from falling down the stairs OHHHHHH!!!) and it’s such a great simultaneous callback and reversal of stardust crusaders, having jotaro be incapacitated and in danger while jolyne summons all the resolve and courage in the world to save him
and not only does she realize that her being in jail is not really about her per se, she also further realizes that the fight against pucci isn’t over once she has her dad’s disc back, it’s now a struggle for the fate of human history and the entire universe and jolyne calls forth that pure, burning altruistic spirit that’s so characteristic of the joestar line and makes the decision to stop pucci at all costs
jolyne also becomes basically the toughest and most resourceful of all the jojos, to the point where even pucci’s like “versace please suck less and be more like jolyne, thank you okay” like. try to imagine the others going through the shit she did in stone ocean. TRY TO IMAGINE THEM GETTING SENT TO GAY BABY JAIL, IT WOULD DEVOLVE INTO A NONSTOP WHINEFEST, POPULATION: SHITTY BOYS; YOU MAY HAVE SHOT THE ULTIMATE BEING INTO SPACE VIA VOLCANO OR TREKKED HALFWAY ACROSS THE GLOBE FIGHTING STANDS EVERY WEEK BUT DID YOU EVER HAVE TO EXPERIENCE JAILHOUSE LOCK?? GET TURNED INTO A FUCKING SNAIL??? MAKE YOURSELF INTO A MOEBIUS STRIP???? NO?????
but even though she is tough and gritty she’s not your stereotypical mindlessly written STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER, she’s still well-rounded and human, she does occasionally feel vulnerable and tired of all this bullshit happening to her, she’s obviously still 19 fucking years old and wishes that her dad were there to help her and has moments where she’s silly or vengeful or petty and is generally just such a good protagonist particularly for a shonen manga, being both very relatable and an amazing embodiment of the shonen ideals of friendship + hard work + determination
basically i think she’s the best character to take on the FINAL SHOWDOWN of dio vs. the joestars, and u probably know how strongly i feel about pucci and they are both so good at being the protagonist/antagonist; tbh for me stone ocean is definitely a case where the narrative at large makes the individual elements even better, i don’t really know how to express my feeling accurately but it’s like…”stone ocean is good bc of jolyne” and “jolyne is a good character bc she’s the protagonist of stone ocean”? i don’t think she’d have the same impact for me if, say, we put all the jojos in a bag and shook it around and randomly assigned each to a story that wasn’t theirs, kind of like how johnny is such a good protagonist for steel ball run bc he’s a deconstruction of ‘jojo-ness’ operating in a rebooted storyline? you feel me here?
and all of this matters even more because jolyne is also the first/only girl jojo! in the year of our lord 2013 people still have trouble writing well-developed female characters, in the year of almost 20fucking14 people are still making comments about how jolyne is “”“too masculine”“” or “”“sometimes looks male, sometimes looks female”“” (?@!?!?!?!?!!) and i can imagine the kind of backlash araki faced when he wanted to make jolyne the main character of a shonen manga in the early 2000s. i’m actually having a pretty hard time thinking of ANY shonen series off the top of my head with a girl as the main #1 most important protagonist??
especially one like jolyne, who is candid about sex/sexuality but isn’t particularly sexualized when compared to the other jojos, a little crass and vulgar but in a realistic and relatable way (very apparent coming off the heels of giorno and his perfectly cultivated “i have people to impress goshdarnit” image), and holy SHIT is she not babied at ALL when it comes to fights, which is something that happens a looot to girl characters in battle series. araki really didn’t pull any punches and stone ocean fights are fucking BRUTAL (warning for blood/gore/spoilers)
even her stand power is really rare for a girl to have, in that it’s very physical and extremely body horror (i would say the most out of any jojo, depending on how you feel about nail injuries i guess) and literally takes her own body apart, really trampling the line between surreal artsy guro and WOW THAT’S KIND OF in a way that goes above and beyond any of the prior protags’ powers; plus while it’s both offensively/defensively oriented and makes full use of jolyne’s cleverness and dexterity it doesn’t, say, have any healing capabilities like josuke’s or giorno’s and iirc healing is an ability that’s traditionally been something that’s relegated to girls (i’ll probably talk more about this if/when i make a josuke post after rereading part 4) (stay tuned for a further post discussing what peculiarities certain jojo’s powers have in relation to their character) (can’t stop won’t stop)
jolyne also pretty much gets the best lines, just watch any asb match with her in it and be like YEAH!! JOLYNE!!! YARE YARE DAWA 1000 BALLS THE POINT OF HANDCUFFS IS TO MAKE PEOPLE SUBMIT and so if your friend insists on thinking that jolyne is not a good jojo make him listen to sawashiro miyuki’s voice acting in asb and then fuckin slam dunk him right into the trash
There is just no way that it's not one of the best parts along with DiU and SBR. It's the most relatable part by far.
EDIT: Who is this sexy person who wrote that analysis BTW?

I think Jonathan, Johnny and Jolyne had it the toughest out of the protagonists. Then of course Giorno and Joutarou met their untimely demises along with the rest of the planet.
I think Jonathan, Johnny and Jolyne had it the toughest out of the protagonists.
Johnny is a damn good protagonist, but like that other person pointed out, he's only so good because he's a deconstruction of the Jonathan-type protagonist.
If I had the choice to hang out with Jolyne or an asshole like Johnny, the choice is clear.

I'd love hanging out with Jonathan but he'd be bewildered by my modern ways and general aura of cynicism
Does Stone Ocean have any Zepellis?
I don't think so.
Check some boulders, maybe you'll find one underneath.
! Or Johnny, goddamn Araki. I am still mad about that Jojolion chapter.

! Hey, he got to die an honorable death, saving his child's life! Bringing the corpse was a dick move, but he redeemed himself.
I'm more mad at the increase in the (atempted or not) sexual woman abuse in Jojolion.
Oh, and all Jojo parts are, at least, good.
Part 5 has awesome setting (that Italy), some great fights, a good cast of characters, but a pretty disapointing ending.
Part 6 has some disapointing fights, specially the ones that should've been the most epic, but the ending blew my mind. And it has the single ballsier fight in all the series. Pure hand to hand hardcorness.
Part 2 still kicks everyone's asses mercilessly like there's no tomorrow.
Steel Ball Run seems like a mass deconstruction of Jojo in general when you get down to it.
These character designs are so ora ora
Joseph's close-up looks a bit off. Jotaro, Kakyoin and Abdul are awesome and Polnareff just looks funny… As always.
I love that Polnareff. The rest are okay as weel. If I'm correct we should recieve more information during Jump Festa this Saturday, right?
