I've been starting to think about the way Dofla's legions are split into the 4 divisions, each obviously referring to a suit of traditional playing cards. But what specifies what division each member of the Donxquixote family is put into?
I think it might be a quite literal interpretation based on the connotations associated with the name of each suit, although clovers is a little fuzzy since I've always been used to using the term clubs.

Diamonds - The squad led by Diamante. Diamonds are generally associated with great value, and as we have seen, Diamante's squad seems to be in charge of the corrida coliseum, one of the great attractions of Dressrosa, it could be said to be a jewel in the crown of the kingdom of Dressrosa. As such, I think that all members of the diamond division are top notch physical fighters, guys who would be put to excellent use in the ring.

Clovers/Clubs - Due to having already seen Violet being infoboxed as an assassin, and Trebol's creepy way of getting up close and personal with people, as well as sneakily easing down vertical surfaces, I think that this whole squad does indeed specialise in assassination. Which would fit with the connotations of clubs, offensive weapons.

Hearts - This is where my original idea was actually coming from. Dofla must have a good number of rookie pirates under him, as well as connections far and wide that could bring him powerful subordinates if he but wanted them. So why keep the heart seat for Law for a decade? Why go without a 4th top commander for that length of time? I think the heart division may be medical based, the connotation with heart is obvious. So just who happens to be one of the great doctors of the world and given time could without doubt be the greatest? The man with the unlimited potential of the Ope Ope no Mi, Trafalgar Law.

Spades - The connotations of Spades to me are to bury, to cover something up. As we've seen from the flashbacks and historical accounts during this arc, Dofla has more than enough to cover up. From his illicit activites in the underworld, to turning citizens of Dressrosa into living toys. I think the Spades squad may essentially be Dofla's information and propaganda dispensing network. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the person with the toy devil fruit was from this squad. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Pica himself. Show us an intimidating spikey shouldered silhouette, get us all thinking he's some physical monster…when in fact he turns people into dolls. That would be so very Oda.
