They'll probably have Batman make an appearance in every movie to raise revenue. It would make sense because they do that in the comics too.

13 movies for Ben? Assuming that there's going to be a movie every 2-3 years, maybe even 4, he's gonna be damn old when it's all over.
Robert Downey has been in 5 movies as Tony, Sam Jackson in 5 movies as Nick Fury, (and both are going to return in at least Avengers 2 and 3, and Fuy will probably be in future Cap movies) and Clark Gregg has been Coulson in 4 movies, two shorts, the animated series and the upcoming Shield show…
13 is still a crazy number, but even the little one minute cameos add up. And, having learned from Marvel's problem wih Robert Downey and his awesome contract, better to lock the actor down for 13 movies at a good price and only need them for 4 or 5... than to lock them down for 3 movies then discover people want a lot more of them later at a harder bargaining price.
-
Warner better make a Flash movie before they do Aquaman.

@Thousand:
Hulk has had two movies.
Three if you count you count the adaptation of Planet Hulk.

Not to mention, Robert Downey Jr is almost 50. Which granted, you don't see his face during the many stunts of Iron Man, but that's the same case of Batman.
Downey is 48.
Jackman is 44.
Affleck is 41.Affleck can manage.

-

Yeah, he's at what, 6 movies now as Wolvie? granted First Class was a really short cameo, but… and that'll be 7 with next year's flick.
-
Yeah, Jackman is at 7 soon. He denied/declined the 4-movie deal though, saying he only wants to do movies depending on the circumstances (The Wolverine was going to be his last big role, until he learned Singer and the old cast were coming back for DoFP). RDJ will be at 7 when he's done with Avengers 3 (also counting one cameo in IH).
-
Thing to keep in mind is RDJJ has done it 5 times in 5 years now. And will probably only do it 2 more times (for Avengers 2 and 3) over another 5 year period. so 7 times in 20 Years.
Jackman will also have done it 7 times in a 10 year period.
If that pattern holds for Affleck, it'll take him nearly 2 DECADES to fulfill that contract.
-
Warner better make a Flash movie before they do Aquaman.
There making a spin off from the Arrow tv show and I think he'll get his own movie in 2016 with the JL movie in 2017. If they could just get Wonderwoman on the screen at some point and then Introduce Aquaman in the JL movie then they'd be set.
-
I would love for the JL movie to have Atlantis invasion as the bad guys. Magic to hold off superman and enough numbers to overwhelm everyone else. Supes, batman, GL, Wondy, and Flash vs Atlantis and aquaman and at the end he turns good/it was all a misunderstanding/joins the league.
The battle can start with the city getting encroaches upon and only batman and superman holding them back and then the others come in and start pushing the invasion force back and the major battle ends up being mostly on the coastline to minimize damage. Aquaman/Orion/Mera/Tempest vs the justice league sounds amazing.
-
Warner better make a Flash movie before they do Aquaman.
Considering how many people are brainwashed with the Family Guy mentality of Aquaman being incapable of anything, I seriously doubt an Aquaman movie will ever happen. I'd be shocked if Aquaman ever got anything along the lines as a role as important as Angel's in X-Men 3: The Last Stand.
I realize Aquaman is actually awesome, but most people don't.

To be fair, I don't think there has been one GOOD female super hero movie on the big screen. Neither Marvel or DC has managed to pull one yet so far which is interesting.
I mean we've got..um
Super Girl
Cat Womanum..I'm sure they were more but none that were actually good.

that doesn't really make it fair though. male superhero movies fail all the time but they keep right on making more of them. if just one or two female superhero movies don't do well, then the public obviously doesn't want to see that stuff.
honestly, even if you say that 'female superheros aren't interesting' or 'they dont have a good rogues gallery', that's part of the problem too. the male characters have been in the spotlight enough in modern times to actually have more modernized stories and villains, while the female characters that dont see that level of screen/page time are always going to be two or three steps behind. and that's suggesting that when they do appear, they aren't furthering another male superhero's plot or being objectified

Err didn't mean to insinuate that it is fair that there isn't any good super hero female movies, but fair in trying to understand why one would be hesitant in making a female super hero movie due to having continuous bombs of failed movies. The male characters naturally had a fair share of bombs but managed to succeed by having super hits in between like Super Man, Batman and so on. Also there seems to be a considerable amount of expectations for female super heroes which means there's more pressure on them to do it carefully to appease their general audience.
I'm really hoping that MARVEL/Disney would break the mold since they seem to be running on momentum with turning some of their previously goofier heroes into mainstream ones and giving them some dignity. There is such a large cast of unknown female Marvel characters that I feel would make great debuts on the big screen. Hopefully in Phase 3 <_<

um..I'm sure they were more
The Powerpuffs Girls Movie?
Or are we just talking live action?
Because after Supergirl and Catwoman, there's… well... do Barb Wire and Tank Girl count since they were based on comics?

Do you guys think they should let Arrow and the Flash TV show to be apart of the flim verse?
Also WB needs to let Del Toro to make that Justice League Drak.

Nope, at this point the tverse and the movie verse should be kept seperate. If they created Arrow after a Justice League movie then maybe (like Agents of Shield), but I feel it would be too constraining for the Arrow writers and directors.
-
Just skimmed a few posts above about female superheroes. I think there's a lot of hope, for Marvel at least in producing a female lead movie. I'm not saying any time soon, just saying down the line it will probably happen. Especially because Joss Whedon is in charge of the Avengers series (don't know if he is confirmed for Avengers 3 but I guess that will depend on Avengers 2's success) but Whedon has always appreciated women in the lead since Buffy and said he wants to do them justice. So I think he has some plans or ideas about female solo films.
As for DC I haven't read any post about Affleck taking Batman, I'm just assuming it's negative like everyone else. All I wanted to say was that Christian Bale wasn't a spectacular Batman either. He always just seemed like an awesome Batman because he was overshadowed by an awesome villain and their performance, I really feel like he was just caught in the gravity of that. I think I remember reading that he wasn't even in the Bat costume for half of Begins. I mean he was OK, he didn't do anything wrong, he just didn't do anything awesome. I only liked Dark Knight because Ledger's Joker. If he wasn't in it, that movie would have been pretty average. Speaking of which, I remember there being some backlash about Ledger being cast as Joker and look how that turned out. You never know.
-

You can't really compare that though. Ledger was much more unknown when cast as the Joker, and he had mostly played in romantic comedies and movies of that kind before that. Affleck has had a much wider range, and he's even played a superhero before, in a really abysmal movie. While I'm cautiously optimistic for Affleck as Batman, the criticism isn't completely without merit.
-
Sure there would be critisism, however no matter who got the role there would be critisism.

Hmm good point. I've never actually seen Daredevil or any other Affleck movie besides Good Will Hunting, so I can't really defend him. I was just saying he may end up surprising us. Not sure how since I know next to nothing about his acting skills, but who knows? I sure as hell don't.

Dear lord, are you forgetting Black Widow? Sadly she hasn't helmed her own movie yet, but her presence in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers was huge. And it will be huge again in Captain America: The Winter Soldier according to Whedon.
As for front-liners, Barbarella isn't considered a good movie, really, but it's also a cult-classic. (Go, Jane Fonda!)
Do you guys think they should let Arrow and the Flash TV show to be apart of the flim verse?
Also WB needs to let Del Toro to make that Justice League Drak.
I believe they hinted (implied? Outright said?) that the Flash from Arrow was at some point going to be part of the DC movie-verse.
And because I can:
Wonder Woman always will find awesome foes to fight. Although yes, Darkseid foes are far down the list. (anyone else love that Granny Goodness is voiced by Ed Asner?)
Big Barda is also great, but she is one I have no illusion of seeing on the big screen without Mister Miracle, and he's a hero I don't see having a movie, well, ever.
-
As long as they make a solid movie, that just happens to have a female lead it'll be fun
If it's some forced girl power thing where every two seconds they mention how empowered and girl powery she is it'll suck worse than a black hole
Like someone said get Joss. He knows his shit
-
I really don't see why there's a need for a film with her in the first place.
Because she is THE female superhero. She's the most popular and well-known, as well as one of the strongest. In a way, she represents all other women superheroes in comics- many of which often get the short end of the stick, be it through objectification, or under-usage. Plus, she can be a really great character if done well.
Speaking of women in comics, I'd love for Hawkgirl to appear in the JL movie(s). Maybe it's just because I grew up on the DCAU, but I loved her character so much, it'd be a shame if she just fell into obscurity again.

I wouldn't say HUGE… she was cool in Iron Man 2, not outstanding. And in Avengers, she didn't do too much. She flew a few jets, found out Loki was trying to unleash the Hulk, disabled the Tesseract... but the information that Loki was after Hulk didn't help at all, and anyone could have disabled the Tesseract with the sceptor. Her role wasn't that big. But it will be bigger in CA2 and Whedon said he wanted to expand hers and Hawkeye's roles in Avengers 2. So she'll be bigger.

I wouldn't count on it. I think like how Marvel is basing their movies off the Ultimates, DC is basing their movies from the New 52, I think. And Hawkgirl isn't in the original lineup. Come to think of it, I don't think Hawkgirl was in any original lineup, just the DCAU. Plus, an alien with hawk wings on her back? I have a feeling she'd look totally ridiculous on the big screen…

hm well at least the 52 has cyborg
actually lets scrap the justice league movie and get Joss to do a Teen Titans movie roughly based off the cartoon. i think we can all agree this is the best choice of action
-
I'd prefer a Justice League movie based off the cartoon, but a Teen Titans movie would also be pretty awesome.
Also, I'll throw in my two cents and say that I have no problem with Ben Affleck's casting as Batman. I'm sure the dude will rock it…

Batman Beyond movie anyone??

I wouldn't mind more Terry McGinnis…

It worked with Angel in the X-Men movies. Although, I know her chances are slim. Still a great character, though.
And I heard rumors of Martian Manhunter being in the JL movie, and he's not part of the league in the New 52 (not the main one at least), so I don't know how much they'd let the New 52 influence that- especially considering he's always been a founding member up until the revamp 2 years ago.
-
I'm supposed to be on self-ban right now but all this internet drama over this casting is driving me mad. I ain't a Batman fan, nor a big superhero buff but I just wanna say that it's not like Hayden Christensen was cast in the role. Affleck is a good actor if the material is strong enough. If anything, to all the doubters here lemme toss this name: Chris Evans. Chris Evans, while not as well known as Affleck he does have something in common with him because before he even donned the Cap suit he played another superhero in the failed Fantastic Four movies(critically, not fiscally) then went on to play Captain America. Another thing, Affleck has that sort of everyman, likable quality which actually makes for the perfect cover-up. The way he projects himself can easily prevent someone from figuring it out, with people thinking, "There's no way this nice, well-mannered, charitable billionaire is secretly a masked vigilante who goes out at night to beat-up criminals." I don't think it takes that much acting talent to portray a brooding, superhero as imagined. If anything, Wayne is supposed to be the guy who you would least suspect would to be Batman. Affleck's casting is probably based on that because he's the type of guy whom you would least suspect can pull off a role like that. I just argued for why Affleck is good choice for the role, now how about I argue that it doesn't take that much talent to portray Bat's as imagined outside getting the superficial qualities of the character right? Batman is a white guy with a goofy square jaw who fights crime in a rubber suit with a bat-theme to it. That's it. Yes there's layers, different dimensions to the character but when it comes down to it the only thing you wanna get down is the voice. How will he sound like? Keaton did nothing but do a more soft, whisper accompanied by his goofy diabolical grin. Bale did the same thing, then movie makers roughened it up to a growl so much so that either some word's get lost on you, or they sound goofy when they're said in that voice. Outside looking awkward in that rubber bat-suit or whatever, Bale barely acted as Batman. I fail to see why fans want him back other then the fact they're just too used to him in the role so they hate change. I guess you can argue he's like Downey Jr. with Iron Man, but the Batman character is much more malleable character then Iron Man and actually benefits from reinterpretation. There's some folks that love Keaton in the role of Batman, there's still folks that love West or Conroy. Batman has a history of having different actors portraying different takes on the character and in different mediums that leave an imprint on the public perception of the character. Iron Man doesn't have an Adam West, he doesn't have a Keaton or Conroy…all he has is Downey Jr. When you get down to it, Affleck's casting almost guarantee's we might see more of that nice, charitable Bruce Wayne who's a competent businessman unlike the aloof playboy that Bale portrayed. This isn't directed at anybody, just sayin' is all.

Guh. It's incredible how DC can't make a kickass lady like Wonder Woman a movie.
They did make that 2009 animated movie wonder woman which i enjoyed.
I don't see why they are so afraid of making a wonder woman movie. Make it similar to the 2009 movie and thor combined.
I mean thor is easily the most out there super hero in the marvel side in terms of what has been shown and he was greatly recieved.

I doubt that rumor's true, but that's just my thought. Everything right now is a rumor, and that's all they're gonna be until they start making some announcements. They just barely begun production for the Batman Superman crossover, so Justice League movie is probably gonna be around 2017? That is, if they jump to it right after the crossover. So it's hard to say who will likely be in it and who won't. If anyone, my money's on Flash. He's been itching for a good live action portrayal and WB knows this.
@Dr.H.:

Agreed. He did little to nothing as Batman. We never even watched him suit up. Liam Neeson, Ledger, and Hardy always stole the show and Bale was caught in the gravity of acclaim even though he didn't do much.

Animation ≠ Live action
I think Marvel has better live action movies, but DC has the best animation. Why is that? Marvel is blessed with heroes who are "semi" realistic and believable. DC has too many fantastic characters who make no sense whatsoever. It works for animation, but it hardly ever translates well into live action. Notice how hard it is to make a good Superman movie? Even Snyder didn't do it completely right. Put a woman in a leotard and give her a lasso and you're asking for a flop. -
Put a man in a cheesy red, white, and blue suit and give him a red, white, and blue shield and you've got Captain America. They even made a joke about it in the movie by having it be a part of a USO show.
And Wonder Woman isn't Superman. I want to see a Wonder Woman with her Amazon origins on film, dammit!
-
I think Marvel has better live action movies, but DC has the best animation. Why is that
Paul Dini and Alan Burnett.
They were allowed to do Batman 21 years ago, and that was so successful they were able to continue doing it for 15 years and set a standard for all DC animation to follow.
Notice how hard it is to make a good Superman movie?
It really isn't. Richard Donner hit it right out of the park first try 30 years ago. And while some of the campier aspects of the original Superman film have dated badly, the heart of the character and the overall tone of that film were perfect, and its strange that its been so hard to recapture that when the template is right there.
Mostly just the people approaching the last couple have completely the wrong way of going about it.
-
No credit to Bruce Timm?
-
No credit to Bruce Timm?
His character designs are great, no question, and at least part of the show's success, but he generally gets over-rated in the overall equation while the main producer and orchestrator of it all Alan Burnett gets ignored. Mostly because people don't realize his job was to orchestrate stories, moderate mood and pacing, overall continuity, do rewrites, guide the voice casting, basically oversee the entire production.
Basically not understanding his role basically means "showrunner". (While over on Gargoyles, Greg Weisman in the same job made sure the world knew exactly what his role was…. though as actual show creator he had a bit more stake in his show,)
So I try to give Burnett credit when I can.

Captain America was definitely one of the hardest sells for Marvel, but they managed to do it thanks to their directing and screenwriting. Of course any costume can be accepted by the public, but it's just difficult to not come off ridiculous. Look at Hawkeye in Avengers. The writers chose to go for the Ultimate costume scheme instead of his traditional purple jumpsuit and crown thing. Some fans were outraged, but could you have imagined how stupid he would have looked? Sure, they could have introduced the costume in a way that the audience will accept him, but why bother? It would just take up unnecessary screen time when they could just go for something not ridiculous. In Captain America, whose very character is in his costume, they took the time to explain the costume. In the film he was a performer turned soldier, and the costume stuck as a symbol of America (and a propaganda tool). Wonder Woman's costume is just as ridiculous as Captain America's. It will definitely be hard to make it work in film without her looking ridiculous.
I never said she was Superman. Her character IMO is just as ridiculous though. No explanation to her powers beyond the fact that they are "gifts from the Gods". Her rogues gallery isn't exactly memorable either. I'm not against a Wonder Woman movie, I'm just pointing out what's holding it back.
@RobbyBevard:

Well WB is trying to take a much darker tone to DC right now, trying to use a Marvel strategy but darker. Honestly, I like the way they were planning with Man of Steel, but it disappointed me in the end. Bad pacing and acting were to blame, not necessarily the characters themselves. It could be done, just in the hands of different people I think.

Weird I don't see him credited as the music director, only as a producer in the series artbook.
-
Weird I don't see him credited as the music director, only as a producer in the series artbook.
I don't mean "orchestrator" as in "music conductor" I mean it as in "guy that runs it all."
His actual official credited role as just "producer" (and later "Executive Producer") underplays a lot of what he did, but once you read up on interviews and things you realize he had a much much bigger role behind the scenes than he's usually credited for.
-
I know nothing about Wonder Woman's comics, but shouldn't she essentially have at least two or three well known greek gods like Ares and Hades on her rogue's gallery. That's always seemed to be her thing, and those names should be familiar to the public as well. The only problem I could see with that is establishing a universe where these people exist.
-
I never said she was Superman. Her character IMO is just as ridiculous though. No explanation to her powers beyond the fact that they are "gifts from the Gods". Her rogues gallery isn't exactly memorable either. I'm not against a Wonder Woman movie, I'm just pointing out what's holding it back…
Batman 89: No explanation for why Bruce wears a Bat-suit other then, "waah, my parents were killed!." You could offer the counter argument that Bat's doesn't have superpowers or whatever but..let's not fool ourselves with how ridiculous Batman is. If Tim Burton could make a concept as ridiculous as a human dressing up as Bat semi-believable then why not a badass Amazonian warrior? Who actually is less ridiculous overall?
Just don't do her origin, just humanize her well enough. Characterize her well enough, write her well enough and the audience will buy it. Her lack good rogues gallery doesn't really matter I mean Iron Man doesn't exactly have one either but they do have a charismatic actor that carries the film. Get a great actor(presumably an unknown) and there! Winning formula! You make a great superhero film with a weak villain–again look at Iron Man. So that's not really an excuse.Well yes, that's another explanation. IMO DC characters are better made for animation. Film is tougher with them..
I have to disagree. DC characters are just as easy to adapt for film, you can do a Wonder Woman film with the visual aesthetic of 300 film. And actually do away with the campy elements( invisible jets, her being born from clay) and base it on the more modern comics. I would nominate Nicoloas Winding Refn who has admitted interest in doing it . Flash, whom I heard from comic reading friends has some of the best rogues galley in comics after Spiderman and Batman. I would get Duncan Jones and cast Ryan Gosling as Barry Allen, Jones is a comic fan and actually was approached by Nolan for Man of Steel. If Marvel is doing Ant-man–which is a pretty hokey concept, then you can make an Aquaman work. Getting the right director WITH A VISON is the key. I honestly think a Wondy film would be a nice change of pace since from the traditional flare that DC flare as she's more mythological based so you get her to interact with gods. It's not hard at all. Tricky, yes, but not hard.
Well WB is trying to take a much darker tone to DC right now, trying to use a Marvel strategy but darker. I dunno, I haven't seen Man of Steel but DC barely even has a realized universe. Green Lantern… I did see and it wasn't that bad, but it's issues were almost entirely scripting and editing. It had very little to do with the inherent hokeyness of the source material.

So, I saw this fan-made trailer posted on twitter and thought it was pretty great. Check it out…
