@asm00200:
We're excited by everything in this arc.
We're just cool like that.
See, what I'm wondering is this: you remember that thread X started, the one about if you wanted One-Piece to have a tourney or not? http://forums.arlongpark.net/showthread.php?t=38298
47% of the voters said no. What the hell happened to all of them? Why am I the only person who is still not on board? This is a legitimate issue to me, because I want to like it. I had been approaching every chapter in the hope that something will finally hook me into this whole tournament thing. And I don't know why nothing has.
I know that by how I phrased the question it probably seemed like I was being a douche, but I am honestly looking for answers as to why people are so in love with this tournament. Answers other than simply "Fights."
I can find the good in almost anything. I mean, I am a Fishman Island defender. I love the Foxy arc. I love Thriller Bark, because I always remember the good before I remember the bad, and that's just not happening yet with this arc. :sad:
@William:
I agree with Nex that the tourney has been underwhelming because of the lack of real fights yet. It's just been a bunch of dudes getting jobbed all over the place, and that's honestly pretty boring to read despite all of the fun powers and goofy character designs. I'm hoping Luffy's part will be more interesting since Chinjao didn't go down in one hit and is determined to kill him.
I'm not alone! And yeah, Chinjao is so far the only one of the new characters I find intriguing. But I hope he gets quite a bit more development.
@The:
Some people bitch for the sake of bitching, when there's absolutely 0 to bitch about. People also have different opinions, even if that opinion comes off as somewhat stupid.
But you should know me better than to think I'd be bitching for the sake of bitching. I have never bitched to bitch in my time here at the water park. Hell, I've never had anything negative to say about One-Piece in general during my time here. I don't come in every chapter and post about my issues. This is the first chapter thread I've been in in a while, and it's because I LOVED the chapter.
@MadieV:
For the same reason i don't get why you loathe the tournament so much. Thank God people don't need to understand each other to coexist.
Really? Because I think I've made it pretty clear as to way I don't like the tournament. Even if you disagree with me, you should still be able to get it.
- It was poorly done from a story-telling standpoint. Everything was riding in high gear starting at the end of Punk Hazard. Doffy was on his way and he was pissed. There was a lot of tension. The whole group was on edge. They land and we get the amazing chapter 701. So many plot points are introduced. We get to see what may be the most unique and interesting island Oda's developed, and then, everything grinds to a halt for the tournament. We stop getting to explore Dressrosa, we don't get to follow any of the other plotlines, and all that tension is gone. While I'm not a fan of tournament arcs in general, I would have probably been more okay with it if it had been introduced at a different time.
- Kind of going hand in hand with the first, I want the adventure! We got a tiny little taste of the island and it was taken away from us for the tournament. One of the reasons I loved this chapter so much is that we finally got Oda doing his crazy environments and animals again.
- For a tournament, there haven't been any good fights so far. It's just been chaos, and we haven't really gotten to see much of anything outside of the very end of the B Block fight.
- A whole bunch of characters, who, outside of Chinjao, I'm not interested in, and am convinced will just be dropped to the wayside once this is all over with.
- Bellamy's redemption.
- The fact that if this is all a trap for Luffy, then it's the worst storytelling Oda has ever done, because it makes no logistical sense as to how this could be a trap for Luffy.
- Just to reiterate, I've never read One-Piece for the fights. I read it for the story, the world building, the characters. And right now, we've been focusing on my least favorite aspect of the series.
@Devil:
Elizabello. Hack. Chinjao. Burgess. Bellamy. Cavendish.
I mean, what's happening outside the colisseum is really interesting and I loved this chapter, but what we had of the tournament has been great so far. But of course, there are no fixed rules about taste, so I'm fine with you not enjoying it. We'll see more about the scenes in Dressrosa and Green Bit next week anyways, so you'll get what you want :P
Thank you for a legitimate answer to my question. Like I've said, I like Chinjao and see some potential there. Burgess is interesting, but he just kinda disappeared. I mean, where did he go?? o.0 Bellamy's redemption is my least favorite part of the arc so far.
The other characters I don't feel strongly towards one way or the other. Which is disappointing to me. I mean, it really, really is. Hack has a lot of potential as a character, but no that he's beat, I don't know if we'll ever actually see him again. I would love to. Maybe have him and Luffy talk about Jinbe, but…
And, the way Oda's been telling the story in this arc so far, I doubt we'll pick up where we left off. The next chapter will probably be titled "C Block." :/
