well there could be many reasons. The easiest one would be to make bellamy look good and one possible reason could also be that his barriers disappear after being "touched" once so 2 attacks with a minimum distance to each other would mean the first destroys the barrier while the second will hit or whatever
Chapter 709: King Punch
-
-
lol You actually thought there would be a new crew member from Dressrosa?
Why wouldn't he? Did Oda tell us we aren't getting crew members in this arc?
-
Edit: Why you people are so sure that the blocks winners will meet in the next round? I see everywhere Burgess vs Barto, Luffy vs Cavendish etc.
There is also the same numbers of DD members, except Diamante.Yeah… I thought it was clear the block winners face the Donquixote pirate assigned to their group. Am i missing something?
I imagine the tournament as a whole is structured as follows (With Luffy clearing it in this example),
Luffy vs his block.
Luffy vs the Donquixote pirate assigned to his block.
If necessary, Luffy vs other block winners who also defeated Donquixote pirates.
Luffy vs Diamante. -
I am hoping for another battle royale with the 4 block-winners x Doflamingo Pirates (minus Diamante).
The 4 winners will have to fight against each other and the DP while the DP will be attacking just the winners, obviously. If one of the contenders emerge victorious, he will fight Diamante for the Mera Mera no Mi. If the 4 block-winners are defeated, the tournament ends without a final winner.
-
This chapter was pretty good. Lols to the non believers. The King really did have a crazy awesome punch. Could it take out a Yonko? Probably not, but it's still awesome to see. I'm glad Oda is at least giving a little bit of a break from the tournament by showing Franky's plot.
Actually we all new that punch could do something but not take out a yonkou in one hit and it was proven.
To be honest I have no idea where to place Shanks in the New World. Piror to a certain color spread I thought he would just derp around in the NW, minding his own business and living the good life of a pirate. It's hard to picture him scheming & sneaking subordinates into a tournament, but his recent "evil face" appearance can't be ignored.
I feel you bro and thinking about it we know more about BM as a yonkou than Shanks himself but I can see him sending somebody to get a fruit and about color spread, the only one missing to show up or a subordinate is him after Jesus showed up it was clear that the color spread was an introduction of the character that will be linked to the upcoming acrs
@CaptainAppleJack:Bartolomeo looked into the sky, when he talked about "that person".
Caribou, who always talked about a god, wanted to give the information about Shirahoshi to "you know who".Enel! :ninja:
nah, I don't believe is the same guy and right now we have no idea where Caribou story is going… damn I'm lost
It would be very intriguing to see a strong pirate look up to Luffy.
yeah he at least got to get some followers from his action and no just enemies as Cavendish stated
Meh, I'm not really into the idea Barty's a) working for someone and definitely not b) will give the fruit to Luffy.
He strikes me as the type that entered the tournament purely because he was bored and wanted to mess with everyone.
Accepted, Bartolomeo is a strong guy and he's fighting for the fruit not because he was bored also you have to keep in mind that more people like him will show up and they will be working for some else. No everybody is as crazy as the worst generation
I find it interesting how Rickyros thinks "The king of Prodense…" before Elizabello fires his punch. Does he know him or do they have a connection? Maybe Elizabello will still have some importance later on.
Also Dagama isn't that bad of a guy. He might have backstabbed his allies, but he still said they'll get compensation. :)
Kyros is an old man, so I believe that he remember the previous King of Prodence, who may also had that ability. this is Elizabelo II
@.access:
Exactly. So it's probably one of those: or Barto didn't put up a barrier because he saw Bellamy was not a threat anymore in his current condition, or his Barriers can not be placed too close to Barto body (since Bellamy was too close to him, he was inside the barrier's blind-area).
I think that once you are to close to him, he cannot put up a barrier and that's where he's fucked

i hardly think so. That would mean that luffy has to fight 3 1 vs 1 till he can fight diamante. Its not fair. Next round will also be a battle royal where thr 4 block winner need to fight together, because the flamingos will combine their forces. The last person who stands will fight dimante. Short but awesome, because of the team up

havent written in the forum for ages
really exciting chapter, off to read all the replies :)
-
the fact that ricky was defeated rather easily, although being old, means he was no "great fighter" in his prime. so if he's kyros, he must not have been anything special for the new world standard.
-
We don't know that Ricky is done for. I think its kind of weird that he got beat up but got back up to block the king punch with his sword.
Maybe he gets defeated by Bart and his identity is revealed but unlike Blue Gilly and Bellamy we can't really confirmed that he's been defeated until the smoke clears from the stadium. -

No what that means is that old age really got to him.

Who says hes old? None saw his face….it's a supposition from Bluegilly nothing else. Ricky was not defeated easily, he received a kick but he wasn't K.O and in the last panel he was capable of protecting himself from King's attack. His sword wasn't created to kill....

Ricky himself said that "father" time defeated him http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/87877441/6

-
He himself in fact.
-
No what that means is that old age really got to him.
well we have seen many old characters so far, and they are still very strong even if they're weaker then in the past.
-
King Punch looked great. If there's something Oda can illustrate really, really well, it's impact.
-
Just noticed that Ricky actualy got up to block. Interesting hmm
-
Let's just say it was such a wrong statement, that it deserved two corrections. :ninja:
-
the audiance is really unfair, they boe bertolomo while he saved their asses!
And about that point, that make me think this guy is probably less evil that it seems, he could have save just himself with a smaller barrier but he decided to save everybody. I think there is more about him than just a speudo #2 super nova kid -
Well that didn't go like I thought it would, but hey, welcome back 19 page chapters!
-
I thought the cover story would be about Caribou's choice, but it turns out to be about the granny, who seems to be under the impression that Caribou is actually Gabull. I really have no idea what to expect from this anymore.
-
I guess Hack did get back up and try to fight with a broken arm, but it didn't go so well. But hey, at least he tried! And the announcer's name is GATS? Wow. He might not fit the name, but at least he has some character.
-
It looks like I was mistaken in thinking that Ricky's importance would mean him winning his block. I guess old age really did a number on him. Although any lingering doubts of him being Kyros seem even more unlikely now. The fact that he's using a bladeless sword seems really strange. And it seems he has a bad history with both the colosseum and Dofla. Doing the math a bit, Dofla was inspired by Roger's death 24 years ago and became a pirate. Kyros quit being a gladiator 20 years ago. It seems like a good possibility that his retirement directly corresponded to Dofla's rise to power on Dressrosa. Him and Rebecca seem to hold some answers. I'm starting to think that the colosseum is a really big part of Dressrosa's history from even before Dofla got there.
In other news, I find it very curious that he was shown attempting to block Elizabello's blast even after he had supposedly lost. Nobody else has gotten this much post-defeat coverage, that's for sure. But it seems that he wasn't completely done at least. Even in defeat, there's a lot about his character that makes me wonder.
-
Robotnik is looking slightly more clever in this chapter, using a hidden card in Bluegilly to take out most of his alliance before they all turned on each other at the end. But he jumped the gun a bit. Between his impatience and attempting to take out Bluegilly earlier, his plan has been fairly typical of other Oda character plans, in that it was rather pathetic overall. But lol at him saying the Bluegilly betrayed him after failing to stab the guy in the back. Dagama's awesome.
-
Bellamy went down swinging, and even had Luffy's support. Quite a turn around for the recipient of one of the most satisfying punches of the entire series. What's next, redemption for Charlos? Honestly though, it looked like he had something going against Bratolomeo, and he seemed to sense the king punch coming which means he might have developed a bit of haki. Good show by him to set him up to be relevant in the remainder of the arc.
-
Elizabello takes pathetic Oda-style stick legs to another level. His design goes from so awesome to so ridiculous when it zooms out far enough to see them. But man that king punch is really something. Gotta feel for Bluegilly who ate it clean. I like these Prodense guys. I hope the country becomes important later on in the story.
-
Bratolomeo's power is pretty strong, and he got pretty lucky too, but that's also a part of it. Elizabello knocked everyone else out for him, and pretty much took himself out of the fight in the process. His power wound up being perfect to take advantage of the situation. I'm still not convinced that he's super dangerous or anything. It didn't seem like he had much of an answer when Bellamy grabbed him, but he acted just as freaked out when Hack was attacking him from behind so I won't read too much into that. I'm more curious about the person he's trying to get the mera fruit for, though. It could be any number of people, with the yonkou and the mysterious 7th warlord at the top of list, but I'm hoping for Buggy (go go fire Richie). Caribou eluded to a mysterious person he wanted to pay tribute to as well, so I think the chances are good that it's the same person.
-
I never expected the Mad Lightning Soldier to be heavily involved in a resistance movement, but in retrospect I should have, considering he's a wanted criminal in Dressrosa. He's now the third Dressrosa character who doesn't seem oblivious to Dofla's evils and wishes to stand against them, along with Rebecca and Ricky/Kyros. I suppose it's fitting that Franky who was the central figure in trying to locate and blow up the factory ran into him. And a cyborg/toy teamup still seems like a match made in heaven. It seems like the lid of mystery covering Dressrosa could be blown off by him as soon as the very next chapter. That final panel could easily be the transition into a flashback, or at least the summary of one. Either way, with the end of Block B it should be time for a focus shift to other areas, and this is a good start. I'm also hoping that we get to see the fairies soon, but I'm happy to get some real idea of what's going on with that country too.
-
-
Ricky = Oyaji …..

@Devil:
"Every last one of you can kiss me where the sun don't shine!"
Oh, Mangastream
COME ON that's not fair mangastream doing praticaly all the job to the bartolomeo camp.
Now other than the cover page(I'm so freaking tired of caribou)
The chapter was awsome to Blue Gilly,to Dagama,to the king punch(the real suprise of the chapter) to thetrollbarrier fuit of Bartolomeo(though when he said that the fruit is for someone the first person I thought was Sabo:ninja:)
Though if the toy is not throwing Franky to a trap Law is getting realy luck with his plan that is someone inside the country that also want's to destroy the factory. -
But lol at him saying the Bluegilly betrayed him after failing to stab the guy in the back. Dagama's awesome.
And yelling at the dudes he's busy stabbing that he'll pay them later lol
Robotnik had one hell of a ride
-
Just noticed that Ricky actualy got up to block. Interesting hmm
Ah, which means the thing snapping in two in that panel is his bladebless broadsword… ok.
-

Pure gold. I'm anticipating this very much.
-
So do you think bartos barrier would hurry luffy? He's rubber so even if he punches it, it shouldn't hurt. It would be like him being slammed into the ground.
-
I knew Blue Gilly was gonna be a beast
-
Thoughts…
- Nice chap in all! Block finished surprisingly quickly after the pace of the last few weeks. Seems Ricky is Kyros and not a disciple/copycat of sorts but that his strength is failing him. Strange that he chose now to come back. Expecting that he has ties to Rebecca (possible daughter) as they seem to share a career and dislike for Doflamingo.
-In regards to Barto's power, my best guess would be that it ties into his repulsive behaviour. His aim is to keep people at a distance and then antagonise to attack and fall into his trap. I would guess that the weakness to the fruit would be somewhat related to the personality in that you just have to navigate round the barrier to get close to him and then he can't keep you out. So perhaps there is a minimum distance at which he can generate his barrier but if you get inside this then he can't use it. He would then be at a serious disadvantage to a speedy brawler like Luffy who loves to get in his opponents space and is also very fast.
-Surprised that Blue Gilly did so well. Not sure if his focus in this chapter means he has served his function or if that was to set him up for more later. Doesn't seem to have any established motive other than presumed glory/fruit so with the cacophony of characters we already have it's possible we won't be seeing any more serious developments for him at this stage.
- Hoping to see the next chapter focus on the ship Strawhats and Zorro/Sanji/Kin'emonn stories and then perhaps the week after having a history of the island/flashback type thing shared between the Ceaser crew and Franky and the soldier. Then segueing into Block C.

@The:
Could the Caribou cover story, this toy and his "comrades" wanting to destroy the SMILE Factory, the Revolutionaries on the snow island of Kaido, be leading to a Revolutionary arc?
If we considering how much hype revolution and family issues have been at hand it's quite possible we are in for family meeting soon (3 years).
Bartolomeo looked into the sky, when he talked about "that person".
Caribou, who always talked about a god, wanted to give the information about Shirahoshi to "you know who".Enel! :ninja:
That would be one hell of a plot twist.
As for Bellamy floating on a piece of wood…he is obviously riding on one of those fighting fish!
And so is Blue Gilly. -
I'm more curious about the person he's trying to get the mera fruit for, though. It could be any number of people, with the yonkou and the mysterious 7th warlord at the top of list, but I'm hoping for Buggy (go go fire Richie).
As soon as i read that, Buggy popped into my mind too. Something about it just seems natural. Having said that, i don't think it would be the worst thing ever, but there could probably be more interesting developments in this regard.
-
shouldnt the mangarule version be out by now
-
So do you think bartos barrier would hurry luffy? He's rubber so even if he punches it, it shouldn't hurt. It would be like him being slammed into the ground.
Barto obviously managed to rough bellami up somehow, even with him being a spring. I didn't think he could get hurt like that either, in terms of him punching and harming himself.
-
King Punch was a fucking Mollywhopper!
Wasn't a doubt in my mind Troll boy would win the round. He's way too cool and trollish to not be able to win a single round and shame on anyone who thought otherwise! I'm kind of hoping that maybe he will get along with Luffy but that's only cause I like him a lot. Doubt he's here to actually get the fruit for Luffy though, seems ways too random. Maybe working for a Shichibukai or Yonkou.
-
why does everyone thinks that Luffy doesn't like Bartolomeo?? Luffy just finds him weird.
-
@Buggy:
why does everyone thinks that Luffy doesn't like Bartolomeo?? Luffy just finds him weird.
I like that the subtext of this post is the open grounds for Luffy to like him, so that he can join the alternate universe Strawhat Crew with Vivi, Wiper, Paulie, Perona, Margaret, Rebecca, and Monet.
-
Great chapter, Barto is just awesome. He is a troll, but he doesnt seem evil at all.
Just a thought, i suspect there is a relation between no one remembering Kyross and that the people is acting normal when their king just resigned.
There is something fishy happening to the commoners, thats for sure.@Monkey:

There is no way he is going to join, but that post is right, Luffy finds him weird, but that doesnt mean anything. He could like him or not, Franky is weird, Brook is, Wapol was, etc.
-
After SHs/Heart pirates defeat Dofla and rest of the Dressrosa army or w/e..will this be their territory? that be pretty sick!
-
This post is deleted!
-
No one brought that up yet, so here's my 2 cents about the bellamy grabbing barto issue. Doesnt anyone think there might be some time delay between 2 use of the barrier? So bellamy tried hitting him, failed then tried grabbing between the time gap and got into the barrier? Or maybe its only 1 side at a time? Gonna go ahead and reread a few chapters..
-

So….
How can you defeat a man like Barto, who wields the power of barriers?Easy. Get him from below, or make the ground he's standing on unstable.
-
So….
How can you defeat a man like Barto, who wields the power of barriers?Ask Robin to fight him? (As Aohige said, its pretty much a hard counter. Robin doesn't need to hit you to beat you, and its not like she gives a shit about any barriers in her way)
Be like Bellamy and just grab him? His barrier looked pretty 2-D, and if he needs to cross his fingers to put it up, there are presumably only so many sides he can have protected at once.
Be fast enough to hit him before he can put his barrier up? It doesn't look like its subconscious, so enough speed can presumably get through.
Or as Ace said above me, find a way to hurt him that doesn't involve going through the specific area right in front of him. Attack the ground, attack from behind, use the area around you creatively.
-
Saying Barto's fruit is close to Kuma's fruit is actually correct, it's like how the fire and magma fruit were similar but with the relation of superiority.
I think Kuma's fruit is the superior one in this case :pI had to log in to coment on this,
I really desagree that Bartrollomeo's powers are like Kuma's powers. Kuma's habilities are about Deflecting/Repelling pretty much EVERYTHING, even pain, fadigue and the Air itself. He can send people Islands away an all that jam.
Bartroll in other hand, (based in what we have seen so far) can create barriers in variable forms and that is it (don't misunderstand me, this is a really, really strong ability, imagine it if combined with strong Haki [!]), like Marvel's Fantastic woman.Of course its too early to assume that, but I believe anyone with strong enough haki can manage to outcome Bartroll's barriers, but it would depend on his own haki too.
Awesome chapter. I hope we indeed get some flashback!
-
Maybe bartos barrier absorbs the damage and he just reflects it back kind of like the impact dials.there has to be a delay in it maybe luffy in gear 2nd with the speed can break through it.. Good chapter though I have to re-read it
-
So….
How can you defeat a man like Barto, who wields the power of barriers?I can think of more than a couple ways to deal with it.
1. Someone well versed in COA like Luffy, Smoker, or Vergo could probably bust the barrier.
2. Speed blitz him before he can put it up.
3. Attack him with a DF more hax than his own. Ope Ope, Yami Yami, Nikyu Nikyu, Hana Hana, etc.
Bartolomeo's ability is far from invincible. if Bellamy could figure it out in just a few minutes then I imagine the upper echelon of Vice Admiral class Marines or any seasoned New World captain/first mate worth a shit could either break or find a way to circumvent a way around it without too much difficulty.
-
Am pretty sure Luffy using haki with elephant gun break his barrier ez. But we don't know if the battle will continue once they know luffy Identity because this battle is to trap luffy not likely they gonna handle over the DF to him. I would say the battle will be interupt some how.
-
The King's Punch had Kamehameha like potential had Bartolomeo not blocked it :(
-
Best chapter of the tournament to me .hopefully we get to see some new informa on dressrosa next week.the character this chapter was the king punch was badass.
-
I wouldnt mind if barto was actually trying to get the fruit for luffy in exchange for a position in his crew. I want someone other than the emperors get some hype right now. It would be interesting seeing his reaction, as well as seeing people actively recognise luffys potential and try to join him. (Not counting the fake luffy crew recruitment at shabondy)
That said I wouldn't want him in the crew, nor think he's a likely candidate. Just the appeal of having luffy put on the same table as the other big names makes it somewhat enjoyable for me.
Still I have no faith in oda doing this, and using bartos mystery man is probably a better option in making the current or future plot unpredictable and fun.
-
I am heavily disappointed in how Bellamy got nuked. At least it looks like King Punch saved Barto, as Bellamy was about to kick his ass. Barto just got lucky….
Sort of looking forward to explanation about Dressrosa's past I guess. Mind control on citizens, maybe.... probably not but maybe
