Well there you go.
-
Using the Mother 3 fan translation and localizing Mother 3 would be a really smart business desicion and would really please the fans. So obviously Nintendo won't do it.
-
probbably but on the slight chance they do, it won't be anytime soon. Probably not even this year
-

As opposed to releasing Earthbound because the fans kept asking for it? Same goes for Xenoblade etc
I can imagine them testing the waters with Earthbound and seeing how it goes from there. It's more likely now than it was in the past I think. Although I wonder if it woudl keep the name Mother 3 or be renamed Earthbound 2
-
they should just call it mother. Besides porky there isn't really a coonnection to the others. They should release earthbound zero on the VC
-

It was a joke, hehe. There is truth to it though. It took an assload of time for Earthbound to be legally downloadable in the west, despite it being really easy to do and fans clamoring for it for years.
-
But there's also been a mountain of legal reasons, no doubt they'll be removing some stuff to allow for it

Earthbound wasn't actually. A lot of it's music is real songs that nintendo doesn't own the rights to. It's only because itoi has gone back and replaced all of that music that it's being released. The hippie theme will be different in this one

I don't know which one to pick. I was thinking of monster hunter on the wii u instead. I have dkcr and i hear castlevania and pokemon arn't that good. I don't care for lego. Whatever have a while to decide–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Sweet!
LM2, FE and Castlevania it is.
Probably will pick New Leaf or the DKR version without the shitty waggle-to-roll control scheme. -
Sweet. I already got Castlevania, Luigi and Fire Emblem. Now do I want pokemon or Donkey Kong?
-
Guess it's time for me to finally try monhun
can't argue with FREE.

Actually that might not be the case.

So if I've already registered Luigi, does it still count? Probably not, right? Last time they did something like this, it didn't.
Edit: Nevermind, they do count. Awesome. I was planning on buying Castlevania and Fire Emblem anyway, so now I can get Animal Crossing for free. Great.
I'll have to buy a bigger SD card, though. This is how they get you!
-
It does.
Last few times they did something like this (zelda soundtrack, LS/PT/Xenoblade coins, 3DS XL free game), things already registered counted as well as far as I recall.
-
Yeah, noticed it counted, too.
I could've sworn the the XL free games things didn't count past games. Maybe my problem was that I didn't have any of the games on that list then..
-
Man, the music & sound effects are perfect. I hope Moldwurm was just created specifically for the demo or is the only returnee though, don't want to be fighting all the same bosses again…
I just now heard of this due to that topic on the main forum.
Yeah. I'm hoping that's just a demo level. It seems a bit too casual friendly for me. That, and I didn't like the rehash. -
Sorry if it has been posted already, but new Wii U commercials.
Vanorsby Family Commercial:
Wright Family Commercial:
Haskins Family Commercial:
It's my opinion, but, the commercials are kind of bad.
-
they should just call it mother. Besides porky there isn't really a coonnection to the others. They should release earthbound zero on the VC
Which would make sense if they hadn't renamed Mother 2, Earthbound, simply going back and using the. original name now would be weird.
-
So no update yet? i thought we get the VC update today
-
Friday I think .

So, Iwata has been demoted to NoA's CEO (Basically, one position above Reggie), and the former CEO of NoA will now be taking Iwata's old job. Not sure how I feel about this since I liked Iwata, but I definitely think it was a good move not to fire him outright, since he's become such a public face for the company. I just have to wonder if the new guy will be that different or not since I didn't even know he existed until now
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh wait, think I misunderstood it. I think Iwata is keeping his position and just assuming more responsibilities, and the other guy is just being promoted so that they can cut out a middleman

The article I read said the changes were due to upcoming retirements.
-
I guess to all those people who were clamoring for him to be fired or step down, Iwata gets the last laugh.
According to the financial statement, the DS is officially ceasing production with a total of 153.9 million units shipped, just under the PS2.
-
People are clamoring for Iwata to step down? Why? The man cut his own salary when the 3DS was struggling in order for the company to take the price drop, and now it's arguably the most successful gaming device this year.
Seriously, at a time when most other companies are too scared to take risks and when they fail it's the small studios to take the hit , I have nothing but respect for Iwata. His approach to delivering news through Nintendo Direct has also been genius, and it genuinely feels like Nintendo is listening to its customers now more than ever.

Iwata is truly a man among men.

Primarily backlash over the thus-far abysmal Wii-U situation and from people disgruntled over Nintendo's leanings towards the causal market in recent years. Basically the general "Nintendo is doomed!" scapegoating.

Idk if that is a smart move they need to use E3 to it's fullest, Wii U is doing poorly it would be a good time to show of some big Wii U games that will sell the console. Mario Kart Wii U, 3D Mario Wii U, and Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS are a great start but they need more such as Wii U Zelda and that Monolith Soft X game and perhaps other games not announced yet such as a Metroid Prime game.
-
I knew this would happen. Nintendo are giving out information on their own terms. Ever since these directs began the writing has been on the wall. Instead of directly competing with Sony and Microsoft in a grandiose event; knowing full well that their console will not compare in its current state, Nintendo now sees fit to go with holding directs during times of little to no competition; like with the 3ds direct. That got the great amount of attention it deserved, because no one else was making any big announcements at the time.
However in the case of the wii u; it definitely needs new info and fast, to attract positive reception and keep the stockholders happy ( and I can guess this will not make them happy.) So this is a very bad time for Nintendo to be doing this stunt. Info is needed, now.
-
Nintendo Directs are not necessarily a plus and Nintendo needs to realize that. I've known so many people who don't even look up constant gaming news on the internet but would watch the E3 press conferences on Spike or MTV.
It's disappointing to me but I guess they 1: don't have much to announce and 2: only want to announce stuff that will be out in less than 3 months. It will, on one hand, prevent another Kid Icarus or Pikmin 3 situation but on the other make it look like they have nothing up their sleeve.
-
So E3 is gonna have nothing there at all worth watching. Might as well cancel my holidays for it.
Considering the Wii U's place and that the majority of people don't watch the Nintendo Directs yet do watch E3 I honestly question why they are doing this. Especially considering they made a big deal out of Smash Bros, Mario, Mario Kart etc being there
-
They said they won't have a large scale event, not that they won't be there. Not to mention that last year they also had the online event which revealed pretty much all the information they had to give. So I'm calling a Nintendo Wii U event in early June, and playable games and demos on the E3 show floor.
It will at the least stop all the "That conference was awful, there was more information on the video online" comments.
Not to burst the whole Nintendoom aura going on here …
-
Well they said it's only for America stuff anyways so more pointless. Means we won't see Retro's new IP tho :/
On the plus it means they aren't gonna be sandwiched between the new Microsoft and Sony consoles, which we know before going in they are gonna have to fight against.
A 3DS or Wii U direct a week prior and the other a week after would be the way to go imo. Keeps focus on Nintendo going into and after E3.
-

How do you know Sony or Microsoft won't show of ANY awesome games @ E3?
Anyways .. Like people said, there are alot more people watching E3 then the Nintendo Direct.
I just hope, they'll pull this off in a smart way. -
Has anyone felt lately, that Nintendo is really distancing themselves from the competition as a whole? Or at least, that's how the majority of the gaming press and culture seems to take it. It's always, "Microsoft has to watch out for Sony this", or "Sony's biggest worry is with Microsoft that". I guess you could say Nintendo is falling more into its own niche now, relying on their already created IP to push sales. Of course, I'd like Nintendo to experiment in new ideas again. Maybe when the new blood gets some power in the company.
Ah well, I hope they find a way to revive the Wii U like they did with the 3DS.

Why wouldn't we see retro's new ip? This is basically like a smaller conference but doing about 2 or 3 of them. Some behind close doors and some not

I actually see this as a good move, the e3 presentations were mainly a bunch of fluff for the PR and journalists anyway. With it in a nintendo direct format we wont have to sit through all the BS like graphs and the other stuff they would run through before just for the spectacle of it. Now they can show what they want in the best possible way, with no goofs like the skyward sword on stage demo. We will also get direct feed and it will be on all the media outlets, really it will save them a ton of money ta boot and all the hands on impressions will still be there once the press gets to the demos they have.
Im kinda glad they are going this route, while the other two companies blow a ton of money on lackluster presentations (both of which have been terrible for the last few years), nintendo can put out what they want and possibly have their own spotlight depending on whenever they want to show it.
-
"As I have been explaining today, in order to further expand our digital business, we will, for example:
- By actively promoting sales of downloadable software at retail, further increase consumer awareness of downloadable products,
- By having more people experience downloadable software, achieve increased visibility and appreciation of downloadable software and its advantages,
- Have our consumers recognize that they can discover new information about games on the Nintendo eShop and have them regularly visit the Nintendo eShop, and,
- By enabling payments using e-money, such as Suica, with Wii U’s built-in NFC functionality, reduce the impediments to making payments and seek new possibilities."
- That's from here: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/130425/04.html
Nice to see Nintendo really embracing digital now that they realize it doesn't bite. XD

Here's something for those of you who want the whole scoop without clicking the links.
"In the past we invited reporters, investors and analysts, industry partners, such as software publishers, and distributors who attended E3 to our large-scale presentations. We also used them as a communication tool in which we broadcast our presentations on the Internet to reach out to video game fans around the globe. I believe that many are expecting us to host a similar event this year.
On the other hand, since we set out on new endeavors such as Nintendo Direct two years ago in October, we have been paying special attention to the fact that different people demand different types of information from us. For example, as video game fans are looking for information about games, it seems that they are less interested in sales figures that investors and analysts on the other hand attach much greater importance to, and distribution partners are looking for information on how we are going to market our products in the immediate future. At previous financial briefing sessions we announced information about our products, showed videos and even uploaded the recording of these events onto our website, but given that we now have an established method such as Nintendo Direct, we feel that we will be able to deliver our messages more appropriately and effectively by doing so individually based on the various needs of different groups of people.
At E3 this year, we are not planning to launch new hardware, and our main activity at E3 will be to announce and have people experience our software. Many people are certainly very interested in learning more about the Wii U titles that we are going to announce. We will use E3 as an ideal opportunity to talk in detail mainly about the Wii U titles that we are going to launch this year, and we also plan to make it possible for visitors to try the games immediately. As a brand new challenge, we are working to establish a new presentation style for E3.
First, we decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past. Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media. Also, I did not speak at last year’s presentation, and I am not planning to speak at these events at the E3 show this year either. Apart from these exclusive events for visitors, we are continuing to investigate ways to deliver information about our games directly to our home audience around the time of E3. We will share more information about them once they have officially been decided.
During the E3 period, we will utilize our direct communication tools, such as Nintendo Direct, to deliver information to our Japanese audience, including those who are at this financial briefing, mainly focusing on the software that we are going to launch in Japan, and we will take the same approach outside Japan for the overseas fans as well."

Well, they're not revealing the new systems at E3; they're holding their own little events for that, along with games as well. So I'm not sure what more Sony and Microsoft will reveal other than, stocks, marketing info, and fleshing out the occasional detail, which I'm sure Nintendo will do.

I fairly certain Sony stated at theior conference that they have more games for PS4 to be revealed they just chose to save those for later on down the road at E3.

Ok then, if that's the case, then it's probably gonna be a bloodbath. Never mind what I said before.
-
For those unaware the big Wii U system update is live
-
while I'm not sure this is such a smart move to drop out of the biggest Hype-frenzy of the year, I actually don't mind.
We'll still get the "news", it'll just come in video-conference form. Which, as it has been proven, doesn't mean that the quality of announcements and trailers goes down a bit. Hell, they announced a new Zelda over one of those things. and they'll still physically be at E3, having builds of their games for playing, and we'll get a few tidbits leaked as well. the trailers will still appear online to peruse over.
Nothing of value was lost, and I actually would like it if Nintendo didn't even try to compete with Sony, EA, and Microsoft in the arena of "VGA-inspired, dorito-fueled, CoD-imitating, lowest-common-denominator-pleasing Hype Spectacle".
-

FInally! downloading it now
cant wait to see if i have to rebuy certain games now from the VC series
-
Nintendo doesn't even need to do anything this year. They're still coasting on their insane "we've got a live orchestra in here playing Zelda music" mega-win from 2 years ago.
-

Very true, and now that i think i about it, was i the only one who couldnt stand when one of the companies would show a new shooter and have someone play through in front of the crowd? Ive always thought it was a terrible thing to show to a crowd that big, none of those scripted events or tunnel crawling ever got me excited in anyway and i know damn well they will probably show something like that from either microsoft or sony this time around once again.
-
Nintendo contending with Geno Smith for L of the day. I'm looking forward to the fanboy delusion on this one
"hey guys our console is flopping and we have barely any games out what do we do about E3?"
"fuck it"
!
