      This… was possibly the most majestic episode in years. Sure, there are good episodes, but this was on a whole other level.

      I already knew what was going to happen, but the delivery of the music, the animation, the pacing was the stuff of legends. For the anime to transport me back to that moment when I first read this in the manga is nothing short of amazing.

      God.

      Where did the minks get the cheese to make the lasagna, I wonder.

      Well…. there are cow minks on the island.

      ... But where did they get the pasta?

      @S.C.:

      I still can't understand how they came up with "Teech". Seriously, did they not know who the real Blackbeard was called?

      Probably. The original TV version of the Funimation dub used the spelling "Teech" originally, so it may have been a mandate from above at the time. Since the 4kids dub was going to reach Skypiea soon, I think they had some original terms that were passed down to the original dub which Funimation had to fight to have changed in their uncut dub.

      @dan2026:

      Viz's translation of One Piece isn't 'unforgivable' that is absurd hyperbole.
      Its just seems to be a bit of a mess. Especially the more you look into it.

      Even if you ignore the big reoccurring mistakes like 'Zolo' and 'Teech', there seem to be a ton of others that are just bizarre like calling Chopper's moves 'boosts' instead of 'points'.
      Where they got the word 'boost' from I don't know. Its literally written ポイント(pointo)

      While I can forgive random scanlators on the internet for making mistakes, I feel Viz should be held to a higher standard with their translation, they are selling it after all.

      But its not exactly the end of the world. Just a bit disappointing.

      The problem is that those translations all came from a time when 4kids was the main inspiration for translations, and most of their staff couldn't translate garbage.

      Even their old translators didn't have a strong grasp on the characters at all. I think in one interview even, one of the older translators said that Luffy is a hero, so that's why he would never curse. That sentence alone gives you an idea of the quality of translation previously.

      For the most part the great translations didn't come until late Fishman Island, when Stephen took over. Just listen to the One Piece Podcast and you will see just how in tune he is with One Piece (it helps that he once did scanlations once upon a time, so he comes from our ilk).

      The problem is, that there are over 60 volumes of spotty translations before then, so that's what most people will see.

      @blackout:

      Seriously? What's with you guys and not wanting Luffy to win? If Luffy wants to become Pirate King he needs to beat the Yonko. Big Mom needs to be defeated period.

      Well that doesn't mean she has to be beaten now.

    • RE: Chapter 847 - Luffy and Big Mom

      @lokilasher:

      Eh, I don't see Big Mom going down in this arc. I think it'll end with Luffy escaping with Sanji having destroyed or ruined all of Big Mom's plans. I don't see how half (the weaker half IMO) of the straw hats, can take down a yonko's crew. That would be some major BS on Oda's part.

      Ending a major arc without defeating the big bad would be an interesting direction to go in. I would accept it in this case since Big Mom isn't just your average villain.

      Oda does seem to be hinting at that direction with Luffy and Big Mom's conversation.

      It could be that the Vinsmokes are going to be taken down in lieu of Big Mom and that this arc is just a set up for her confrontation with Luffy.

      It seems like Big Mom is interested in keeping her promise to Sanji, as long as nothing goes wrong. So the question is: What will be the first thing to go wrong?

      So I looked at the latest chapter and saw Viz had written 'poneglyph' as 'ponegliff'.
      Is this right? It doesn't seem right. I am not familiar with Viz's translations but I don't think I have ever seen it Romanised like that before.

      Surely the English word 'glyph' was intended.

      That word was established way back in Alabasta so it was made under a different translator.

      One Piece Episode 765 Preview

      Oh god, when the filler is in the preview that is never a good sign. Especially when it's filler that's so blatant.

      @Crossword:

      I really, really enjoyed the closeups in this episode, especially of Caesar's many wacky expressions. Everything was so crisp and clean, even without any fancy animation. And we're getting Takara next week too. Oda should finish more arcs before the anime can start them, heh, as I'm sure the increased amount of preproduction time compared to something ongoing like Dressrosa that had no ending in sight for a while is paying dividends.

      It also helps that there's no movie stealing animators away in production. You can bet Film Gold ripped Dressrosa apart during the end.
