Technically speaking, Scanlations are usually ahead of the Japanese release aren't they? Because someone gets an early copy of JUMP from a box at a convenience store they work at or something?

Shouldn't this be in the visit media thread? Anyways that alone is worth it. It'll never be able to beat the speed of the scanalation release though. But now we have a legal source that keeps with Japanese release. :)

Besides can't you organise a petition to have Zoro's name corrected? Pump up the publicity get Viz to put it up for public poling - yeah sure they made a mistake a long time ago - owning up to it shouldn't be that bad?

While I'm not a fan of some of the translations (can't believe Chopper's roar when he appeared in the Tank was taken out.) I'd pick it up on some conditions
1: It's released in Europe. They can release the volumes there but not this? Ridiculous.
2: It's not overpriced. Currently can import 2 japanese volumes for 1 Viz volume.
3: Can read it on handheld devices. Specifically the 3DS and/or VitaLast one isn't THAT important but the other two are pretty much make or break for me.

Yes, but it's going to be so much better translated (essentially on par with CCC's mangarule work) than the crap we get with Mangapanda.

It was something that happened way back when 4Kids was doing the anime. In the first printing of the first volume (I have it on my shelf, lucky me!) it was actually translated as Zoro, but 4Kids wanted to go with Zolo, so for the sake of consistency and to avoid confusion with the younger crowd, Viz conformed to 4Kids.
Also people, a wider realease that USA/Canada is obviously the next thing Viz and Sueishare going to work on, as they want to eliminate scanlations.
However, if you're in the US or Canada you really have no excuse at this point. Simultaneous release, legal, and dirt cheap. Even if you still read scanlations (I'm subscribed, but I still do, though I'm going to try not to once this hits) at least subscribe and support Oda!

Such days is long gone, and even when a fast, reliable, official release comes out, scanlations and fansubs still comes out regardless of the release dates.But at least now you at least have the choice to make.
If Jump Alpha is available where you live, by all means do subscribe. No really, please.
Hopefully one day similar service will be available in Europe too. -

I don't understand the idea that in other countries different than USA and Canada their business is not profitable. Since I have the money, they have the product and this is the globalization era, then, why can't I have that product on my computer? Some management executive must be doing a bad job somewhere.

I mean, they are losing the opportunity to have my money, and I'm losing their magazzine. I don't need to read it in spanish or other language different than english. And for sure if they sell to the whole world, the problems with the copywright wouldn't be more serious than what they have been having all this time with scanlation...

Honestly Alpha is only like $25/year. I'll be having to renew mine soon. Anyone in the US who can afford to should really be supporting it.
As for the people outside the US. It's more of a copyright decision as far as I'm aware. It's tied down by law rather than money.

Publishing OP weekly, or rather a magazine weekly, is just not profitable here in Germany or in Europe in general. We only got the Tankobon versions which are 4-5 volumes behind.

Kinokuniya just moved locations… I think it might have been rent reasons, which is common. Asahiya Bookstore was the one that closed due to lack of business.

Yeah but you get the gist, most of the readers in Germany (which are not that many) prefer to read their volumes and chapters in German anyway, so you would have to establish a similar online service for a German translation which in the end is just not profitable. Believe me, i would like to have a similar service like Alpha here, too, especially considering that professionals work on the translation but unfortunately it is not available.

I think making it available in Australia and the UK is their next goal, wouldn't be surprised if it is by January 2014.

I would love to support something like this. Hopefully they fix Zoro's name by the time they bring it out here. It's on par in terms of annoyance with people referring to Luffy as Ruffy.

This is what I don't get however. We get the Viz volumes. So they have the copyright to sell us the books but they don't have the copyright to sell us the chapters separate on an online service? I thought they'd all come under one thing.

Guys, they aren't going to change names this far in to the run. They have said they won't. The best bet is to wait until the series is finished and wait for the upgraded rerelease.

We've got amazing crystal clear scanlations by Stephen Paul and no crapy ads messing up the covers. Zolo Is totally worth all that.

Well, I'm subscribing. We'll now have officially (and legally) English-translated/subbed One Piece manga AND anime, released near-simultaneously with Japan. That is…beautiful.

I really wish they would change Sprite Zero back to Diet Sprite. I don't care that it tastes the same and doesn't affect the product, I just want to complain about trivial things.

I just can't stand it, its not the right name.
That's why I said its way too OCD. You can't even think of a significant reason why that should matter. All you can say is that because its not a perfect translation of his name, you can't stand it.
I mean, Viz has a pretty good release of the manga. It has pretty good translation (its not perfect but its pretty good), it has all the tittle pages and extras like the SBS and interviews, its fairly cheap, the quality of print and paper is pretty good for the standards of a Tankobon release… For all intents and purposes, with all these factors considered, the Zolo or Zoro thing shouldn't matter at all.
