Great Chapter, but I'm still worried about Franky :-(
Chapter 690: S.A.D
-
-
I really love this chapter. We get to see everyone, Law is back on his feet and what a speech he gave!
Franky? XDDDDDDDDDDD
-
Great chapter.
Law is definitly this Era's Whitebeard , I don't care if he's a schemer like Shiki
he totally has the presence and power of a young Newgate.Oda's no troll but damn if I wont be seriously disappointed if all of this Big Mom build up is for nothing, this chapter essentially confirmed it.
So anyone else still think the Yonko is Kaido?
-
To anyone saying that Smoker is not necessarily weaker than Wergo don't fool yourselves. If Smoker wanted to give Law his heart back so that they can get even, and if he could deafeat Wergo, then he could have just defeated Wergo and then retrieve the heart. No need to act so reckless and get his ass kicked just to get the heart if he could actually defeat Wergo.
-
Once again MS is a much better read .
Also i can't wait to see the new generation go crazy in the NW . -
Great chapter. CC's face were hilarious every panel, Vergo's fight was really cool, I thought the thing he did with the bamboo stick was really epic but then Law just showed him up XD
Dunno if this was brought up, but what if the dragon they strawhats ate in the beginning was a human turned dragon via devil fruit? o_0
-
How did Kinemon find out about Momonosuke being a dragon?
-
Looks like the Supernova live up their reputation as the worst generation.
-
Except there is. Zoro clearly used Haki to cut Monet on her cheek and afterwords attacked her. During that attack Monet was terrified because she knew that her opponent could easily end her life anytime. So there's solid evidence that Zoro can use Haki and did it already. Frankly I fail to see the comparison to Sanji vs Vergo.
I think you're stretching things. We know Logia users can be sliced if they aren't expecting it.

Don't forget that Smoker was injured, when he was defeated by Vergo.

Quick question on page 20 from manga panda. Which chapter did akainu appear in from the picture third one from the top? It's driving me crazy. Would greatly appreciate an answer.

I'd like to hear just one example of this.

That was a fake picture from before Akainu's full appearance was revealed.
They seem to have guessed his inspiration (Bunta Sugawara) correctly. -

Just re-read the chapter, a few thoughts:
1.) Pretty much confirmed what i already said and believed, Luffy could have finished off CC anytime, the key word here is "emotional investment" which was not present in Luffy´s case before the dialogue with Momo.
2.) I liked that we got an update on the SHs, even if it was short. I hope Usopp is gonna fight and not run away, i want to see some sniping. Also, i still believe Franky will be the hero of this arc by saving anyone, for example by blowing away the gas.
3.) I do not think that Smoker is that much weaker than Vergo, i think the fact of him owing Law played a huge role in the way he fought against Vergo in the first place which Vergo himself even commented on.
4.) Another fact confirmed for which i argued several times, you can protect yourself with Haki against DF attacks, it all depends on the mastery of the DF user and the level of the Haki user (unfortunately we can not measure both). Vergo was able to make Law´s DF attacks worthless against him in the past but Law seems to have grown much stronger since their last encounter. This makes abilities like that of Boa, Bonney or Perona at least manageable, especially in the first case. Another thing, CoA Koka also has certain levels as seen in this chapter. Both Vergo and Smoker use Koka on their respective weapon but Vergo´s bamboo stick breaks Smoker´s jute.
5.) Yes, Law was impressive this chapter but i still can not completely understand the euphoria here, things like this are to be expected in the NW. Luffy almost broke a ship in the size of an island, Kuma completely destroyed Thriller Bark, Mihawk cut a huge iceberg, 2 of the Admirals even changed the climate of an island completely.

so what is the correct translation?mangastream or mangareader?
The first one i suppose?

@Tijnn.:
Twist! She IS Kaidou.
hmpfff…
Well.. I guess Doflamingo must be pretty SAD
OHOHOHOHOHO
hmpfhffffff…
Yeah and on the last page his SMILE is gone
ohohoho
Hrmmhrhmuauaarfafaauau….
F*cking Jezus on cracker Dexter !…
First that sick image of Vergo all pumped up.
Then he was cut in half a second later, then I saw the tanks being cut in the background, THEN THE LAB WAS CUT !!!11! OMG THE ISLAND IS CUT IN HAAAAALF!Only thing that kinda bothers me is that Smokers tactic was to get the heart back and not able to lay down punishment on Vergo, then after Vergo went incomplete SSJ II a wounded Law pulled this move out of his hat.
So where does this leave Smoker in the power ranking just like Tashigi compared to Zoro. They kinda disappoint.
Prediction for next week: Vergo having the floor of the lab stuck to his cheek for the entire chapter.Did Vergo went after Law's crew to punish him ?
HMRMRMPFFFMRRHAHUAAUHFUAUAUAUA AHUAEHUAHUAHEUAHEA UEAHUAHEUAHE UAHEUHAUEHAUEHAU EAUHEUAHEUAHEAÇEUHAUHEAUHEAUHEUAEH huehuehueheuheuheueuheue(brazilian vibes)
oh shitz I laughed so much reading all of that that,Well, one thing… people seems to forget certain important things and keep trying to level the characters powers in a rank, like "Derp is X strong, Herp is 2X strong an the VAs are 2,5X modafokas", even after Impel Down where it was stated (forgot by who) something in the lines of "you never know how diferent abilities will match/interact", when someone as weak as mr.3 was able to somehow stop Magellan's poison, because of his wax and I can only imagine if Mr.3 has mastered his power to, for example, create a whole fking building of wax, or imprison Magellan body inside said building idk, the thing here is that it depends a lot of how "creative" can you get.
And Vergo is not dead, not at all, he actually can somehow cause al ot of truble with only his uper part, unless Law keeps cutting him before he can do anything. It reminded me of the Princess Mononoke: "A Dire Wolf's cut head can still bite!"

This is a prime example of why I detest Law so much. Just when we're finally getting some emotional connection to the straw hats doings in this arc, Law comes back to yank the camera onto himself with the "Me me me! Focus on the handsome badass over here with the complicated plans and the smirks and the everyone is in the PALM OF MY HAAAAAND"
This chapter featured the very first instance of Doflamingo losing his carefree attitude (after 450 chapters!), and a two-page statement of "You watch out! I'm going to mess up this era!"
And the man responsible is not Luffy.
This had more fanfare than Luffy telling off Big Mam for petes sake.

in fact,he has not said "i'm going to mess up this era",but "WE,the pirate alliance, are going to mess up at least your plans"
-
It's been two years since Law was a rookie. Same for the rest of the Supernovas. That makes them not rookies anymore. That was really the whole point of the time skip, to move the SH crew and the Supernovas past the rookie stage of their pirate careers.
Edit: Also, at this time, it certainly apperas that Law is stronger than VA Vergo, so him being stronger than a VA doesn't exactly seem implausible to me.
Yeah, I understand that. Even if they are no longer rookies, though, as someone else mentioned Smoker was fighting without his heart in this scene. So he could have at least put up a better fight than he did had he had his heart.
And I guess that's true about him being stronger than Vergo as well. I'm not hating on Law here at all, since he's awesome, but I don't think Smoker should be looked down on either.
-
I could hear Oda ejaculating over the law pages this chapter.
-
Smoker in Alabasta, the restaurant scene.
Technically he wasn't sliced, but yeah, he didn't see expect Luffy to bump into him.
It caught him off guard and he couldn't transform.
-
BTW Doflamingo had the same expression in his 1. appearance, so this is not the 1. time he is not smiling.

Do you also think Garp actually imbues love into his fist in order to hit Luffy? That bumping into Smoker thing was a gag.

-snip-
Do you really not see why it had to be Law who made a speech that centered around world politics?

I don't think being the main character means absolutely everything is about you.
Luffy will fight Dofla and Luffy will take him down, but for now Law has a way more personal connection to Dofla than Luffy does. And besides, that last page referred to all the supernova, of which Law is a part like it or not, which makes sense, considering that they are gonna be heavily involved in the Big Mum arc.
Law might be the man with the plan, but he is not the sole player and he knows it.

Until the day I die I will hold that this was a gag scene. Ace getting shot by Van Oger, Sleeping Enel, Kizaru getting shot.
@Strelok:BTW Doflamingo had the same expression in his 1. appearance, so this is not the 1. time he is not smiling.
Oh come on.
"Luffy hitting Croc the first time wasn't that significant; his scar shows that Croc got hit by something in the past".
This was the first time in the present story, that something happened to actively ruin Doflamingos good mood. To have him transition from FUFUFUFU to BITCH -
I wonder just how scary DoFlamingo will be when he gets angry. Even when he has that smile on his face and is always laughing, its just creepy - but when he loses it and gets serious…he's gonna fk s**t up as they say.
At least we seem to know who the Emperor is they're all going after. Big Mam's time is numbered.

Personally I believe that scene was for comedic purposes, similar to how nami can give luffy bumps and bruises even though we KNOW she cannot use haki. If Zoro did not use haki I believe what would have happened would be similar to how DD attacked crocodile in the war, his logia powers activated automatically as a reflex.

MangaStream version
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/38354222/1This chapter was truly raw. Law is a beast.. Was not expecting that man, epic!
I'm glad I always wait for MS man, truly great scans this weak, the translation was pretty good too! -

Law might be the man with the plan, but he is not the sole player and he knows it.
But he's the driving force behind this entire arc. He's made the big decisions, and he's ordering the main crew around.
11 of the 36 Punk Hazard chapters have ended with a "LAW! MYSTERIOUS!" Cliffhanger.
Not everything has to be about the main character, but for someone who's not going to join, this arc is wayyyyyy more about Law than anyone else.Like, Imagine if Kuma had shown up after the first 10 thriller bark chapters, and everything else was background noise to KUMA! MYSTERIOUS! MANIPULATES EVENTS!

Huh? Of course it is.
….Oh, it's a poor example then?
-
Gag scenes don't really follow the same rules as the rest of the manga, especially when it contradicts everything else (Luffy countering Logia intangibility without Haki).
Its like Nami/Usopp beating Luffy to a pulp, Choppers antlers popping out of his head, etc. -
^Point taken .

http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/38354222/1Wow, it seems like they're just making shit up in their translation. Terrible.
-
It's not the only time it's happened in the manga though. Sadly I'm short on the example front but I'm sure of it. I'm sure Logia is a conscious thing rather than subconscious.

An unexpected, quick turn of events. Law slices Vergo in half? Well, I can't say that I should be upset by this outcome. The opposite even. Law's ambition is to be the Pirate King and Vergo's ambition is not as big. Not to mention Law's abilities even before the time-skip were vague, so his successful strike today isn't something out of the ordinary. Especially since he defeated Smoker beforehand. His devil fruit power should be one of the more powerful paramecia types. That being said, I don't mind the result whatsoever, but I would have enjoyed a longer fight. I'm not disappointed though. I enjoyed Vergo's defeat.
Smoker loses, but not horribly. Smoker lost to Law near the beginning of the arc, and now fought nearly on an equal basis with Vergo, until the moment he lost, which is how many fights end up, let us be honest. It could be that Smoker saw he was on the losing edge and began a different technique to gain Law's heart and without Vergo noticing. I expect Smoker to rise up next chapter without too much damage. I mean Law was beaten to a greater extent, so Smoker should be fine.
I'm surprised how Ceaser is still able to keep consciousness after being punched by Luffy. I'm tired of him already, Luffy knock him out already… And am I missing something? Why does Usopp want sea-stone cuffs?
-
Wow, it seems like they're just making shit up in their translation. Terrible.
What are you saying? " You ended up on the wrong side of an Ass Whooping" is a fantastic made up line.
Props to them!
-
Wonder who is also going to be fighting against the Strawhats with Law when they finally come to clashing sometime in the series.
It feels like Zoro has to be the one to beat Law and thus who is Luffy going to be fighting? I mean with the Mihawk type slash Law did this arc it would be severely dissapointing if Luffy beat Law and not Zoro. Thus who is going to be teaming up with Law at time of inevitable clash. Another Supernova? Some marines? I always figured Luffy vs. Kidd was a given at some point, so maybe Law and Kidd form an alliance at some point.

I just want to say while this chapter is the first time that Doflamingo not smiling arrogantly is significant, there was one other time he became angry and stopped smiling. When Oars the 3rd said he wanted to take out at least one War Lord during the war.
http://www.mangahere.com/manga/one_piece/v57/c555/9.html
As for Smoker losing, the 2 chapters we saw them battling Smoker clearly looked like the dominant force despite having weaker Haki. Not to mention Vergo questioning his odd tactics which were solely used to sneakily get back Law's heart. I don't think Vergo is that much stronger than Smoker.
I do question however future characters that will be able to get around Law's ability other than Smoker. Smoker lost due to that surprising OHKO yes, but before that Law wasn't tearing him to pieces suggesting his Haki was good enough to get around Law's Hax ability. But then Vergo's Haki was better… So I guess Smoker's fruit helped immensely. At the same time just simply being a Logia is obviously not an issue for Law considering his conversation with Caesar.
-
Hmm Mangainn has changed their translation since it first posted the chapter early this morn. It used to have Usopp stuttering "th-ther's enemies everywhere!? I just wanted was some seastone cuffs!!" most looked like he was yelling. This verison can still be found at Mangahere.
Now Mangainn matches Mangstreams version= "I drag myself all the way here and this is my reward!? All I wanted is a pair of seastone handcuffs… " The second part looke dif it was mumbled, not yelled. The two different versions gives off totally different vibes. First one is the bumbling weakling Usopp used to be before the timeskip, the second is the more experienced Usopp who had no trouble fighting on Fishman Island, and did so with confidence
I can't wait to see CCC's or Redon's opinon on which is a better translation.
-

The thing is, Zoro vs. Law is a weird match-up (the fandom would burst)
Because Law's a fighter that mainly relies on his Devil Fruit, not his sword. Yes, he has one, but most of the time we've seen him, he's used his HANDS to transport stuff and shamble things. And when he does use his sword, it's to cut people within his space to control them, not to plainly cut them.
Zoro's a fighter that relies purely on his strength and swordplay. He has no boost provided by some DF power. Not to mention, what's to say Law won't activate his fruit immediately, and proceed to overwhelm Zoro purely because he has the advantage in playing field?
Apples and oranges, my friend. It wouldn't be fair.
Because they're in an alliance right now, they don't even have a reason to fight. And when they do, it'll be Luffy…..because they're both Captains, and Luffy was the one that agreed to make an alliance in the first place.
also, I have the feeling Kidd would outright refuse to work with Law, because the latter betrayed piracy and became a Shichibukai. He always stuck as me as someone that has no tolerance for someone that goes to the World Government's side, even if Law was doing it for his own means.

This talk about the changing of the era and how the time of the old regime is past wouldn't have made sense if it came from Luffy, he doesn't care about that stuff. But it needed to be said regardless. Law wasn't even really saying that he's going to mess up this era as much as WE'RE going to mess up this era (Luffy, Apoo, Hawkins and Kidd included along with the rest of the SN).
Really, I never got your hate for Law though. I personally think he is a legitimately interesting character, unpredictable and downright scary at times. It seems to me you don't like him just because he fits into the chessmaster bishie archetype but come on, he's no Aizen. For one thing, there's actual substance to his character, there is something beneath his surface be it loyalty to his crew, a strong desire to get out of being under Doflamingo's thumb and make a name for himself and a desire to be challenged (hence why he saved Luffy in Marineford). Also, his plans actually make sense, he has a very cool power, he's gotten his face smashed in by Vergo so he is mortal and not untouchable and he has his weird quirks (like collecting polar bears). Execution is everything and I think his character is done well.
Also complaining about him getting attention? Of course he's going to get attention, this is an arc dedicated to building up his character for later arcs. He has a purpose in Oda's story, he's not getting attention just because of fan polls. Give the author more credit than that. He's no Kubo. What? Did you complain about Shirahoshi getting an excessive amount of screen-time too?
