Brownbeard for perma ally.
Chapter 674: Spectators
-
Brownbeard for perma ally.
-
I'd lol if the cover story was Caribou AND Decken…
unless my memory sucks like majorly bad, Decken didn't get arrested... did he?
[/shrugs]
I can imagine those two teaming up -
Anybody think that CC is going to be around for a while because he has a unique laugh? Do all of Oda's characters with a unique laugh stay around the story? Doesn't seem likely that he'll be beaten, captured, and forgotten unlike, for example, Spadam.
-
@Medical:
I apologize if this question was answered earlier in the thread, but I'm hesitant to read through the posts because I haven't read the chapter yet, but…
What's the occasion for the early release?
shonen jump comes out on saturday because monday, the day when it should've come, is holiday.
-
Maybe the little bird thing is what he shoots and is covered in oil or something…
I mean Usopp shooting fire by itself would be a little strange... >_>
-
Damn this was awesome! The longhaired sword user resembled Hawkins but is most likely a new character.
Also doesn't this chapter prove that Kidd has 2 metal arms?
I think so. Perhaps from the Big Mom conflict(s)?
The first shadow is obviously Crocodile, who saw that Smoker stole his haircut, so he grew an afro. Daz Bones is next to him.
If this happens to be true it'll be great. However I can't see Crocodile having that haircut… It could be Banchi or Kentauros after eating the Clown-Clown Fruit. No but honestly could it possible be Shilew? I don't believe we've seen his hair and his jaw is similar to his. I originally saw Kidd and the possible, probably not, Basil Hawkins so I assumed he was a Supernova. Capone Bege maybe? Super jacked Aokiji?
I'm not sure if Brooke does breathe oxygen. I mean yes he did get affected by the gas on the ship but maybe Brooke's body performs the functions of life and he just breathed it in so he was affected. He might not need oxygen. Maybe I'm getting wild here. Franky also was affected by the gas so he might need oxygen as well. I don't believe the Straw Hats can defeat CC. Some sort of combination will be necessary in my opinion. Zoro with his Cannon techniques, Usopp/Sanji with their Fire Stars/Flame Birds/Diable Jambe, etc.
I think CC can affect Smoker though. Because smoke is still elements in their gaseous form if I'm not mistaken.
Only real thing that might work is a dial to capture CC. Kitsune's sword might have never-dying flames or something. If Zoro uses it with his Cannon techniques, it might work from a long range? Call me crazy but can Law rearrange the molecules of his "patients"?

Saul was long gone.

Cool chapter. Now we know how CC took out Luffy an co. He can manipulate air in a confined space… damn he is a lot more dangerous that I initially thought. Didn't expect to see Brown beard either. It's starting to feel like the climax of this arc with CC's big reveal of his new modifications on the slime.
EDIT: Lol I didn't even read the last page at first. Looks like CC is involved with some heavy hitters in the new world. Shit just got real.
-
All these cameras, time for Luffy to make a show of it all and make a bigger name for himself obviously.
1.) I hate that usopp got pwned so easily I thought he grew enough to fight for longer.
2.) Glad to see Nami have "guts" she was going to take on Cesar and I commend her for that.
thank you oda, praise your light and your scanlator disciples.
-
Manipulating oxygen levels is some crazy shit.. I'd like to see what Brook has to say about this.
-
While this chapter was satisfying, the next week's break isnt.
-
Maybe the little bird thing is what he shoots and is covered in oil or something…
I mean Usopp shooting fire by itself would be a little strange... >_>
This lol.
Although I admit that I always thought he did shoot the Firebird Star the way it was - fire itself.
I laughed mildly when I saw this chapter that it actually is merely a small bird-like bullet enhanced with a fire dial or something.
Just want to add that I loved Caesar's trollface this chapter.
-
Didn't I tell you all that Brownbeard was still alive?
I wasn't even surprised in the slightest. And MangaPanda's translation was horrible. Almost unreadable at best.

Indeed. I also mentioned my hopes of seeing Brownbeard alive at the end of the arc and beating on a beaten CC (CC gets blown into the cold wastes of PH by Luffy).
I reckon he just got screwed this time though. -
Caesar is pretty overpowered at the moment. I'm very happy that Oda brought up the fact that he can control other gases, including air itself!
Without Haki, you're pretty much fodder to Caesar.Indeed. I also mentioned my hopes of seeing Brownbeard alive at the end of the arc and beating on a beaten CC (CC gets blown into the cold wastes of PH by Luffy).
I reckon he just got screwed this time though.I doubt he's going to get revenge on a fallen Caesar, but it would be nice to see.

I doubt he will now. Appearing after being defeated twice is a little bit too much IMO.
I reckon CC can't control large amounts of Oxygen instantly. For example he couldn't have gone to Marineford,
and suffocated everyone at once due to the land size outdoors. It may also be the reason why he couldn't take out Luffy instantly
after realizing his poisonous gas couldn't work. -
And he's such a good captain, too, looking out for his crew like that. Never really liked him, but now… can't help it when he shows himself to be a good captain. >.<;
Damn, not the best chapter, but a lot of serious stuff happened. Firstly, Caesar pwning Nami and Usopp. Not much they can do about oxygen deprivation, though now Usopp knows what he needs to do to beat the bastard, so I for one am looking forward to a rematch. Maybe Brook and Usopp vs asshole Clown?
Those poor kids, being used like that by the bastard. It's gotten rather dark. And yes, I subscribe to the 'using the kids as food' theory posted in the spoiler topic. Why else would he be so determined to get them back right away? Because he needs them for something, obviously.
Also, woo~ Girl swordsman is what I'm betting that shadowed face is. And it's about time we got another one, too. Seriously, all we've got in that department is Tashigi. That is all we have in the female sword-swingers, right? And Kidd, nice timing at making a show. It'd be better if it were in the next issue, though, since that'd be just before his match (or around the time of, at least) and all the Kidd fans would be in spasms. Now they have two weeks to calm down in, and I don't think he'll be in the next chapter, though I may be wrong.
Are we absolutely certain Oda-sensei doesn't check out these forums, because some of this stuff randomly popping up is pretty coincidental - Kidd before his match, more Frobin, Brownbeard being alive, Doflamingo being behind everything ...
-
@The:
Devil Fruit's are pretty much magic, superpowers if you prefer.
Completely agree.
I'm also tempted at times to apply real world logic to logia's or df's in general (to explain or speculate on things), but it doesn't proof anything in the end. Even if Oda explains some df's with physics doesn't mean that he won't bend the next one the way he wants.
I don't know who it was, but someone on AP said something like "In science fiction, explain things with the laws of nature when you can, if not it doesn't matter as well".
And thats exactly what Oda does. "Magma burns fire" says hello.

I laughed mildly when I saw this chapter that it actually is merely a small bird-like bullet enhanced with a fire dial or something..
Well from Thriller Bark, when Usopp explained his Kabuto, we knew he enhanced it by using dials, and a flame dial is one of several he used
color is crappy but it explains the original Kabuto, I'm assuming Kuro Kabuto works similar=
[HIDE] [/HIDE]So its easy to see why we thought he shot just flames. Seems now he uses a model as a base, as another said, like coated in his special oil, then when fired, the flame dial ignites it. Using the little model would explain something we saw with the first use, at Ennies Lobby= Whent he Firebird struck its target, there was a ciricular explosion radiating out from the site of impact. We didn't know how that was acchieved, now we do. That model has a secondary round, likely something (chemical load?) that explodes after a certain ammount of time of the model burning or when hit a target.

Alright chapter dissappointed with the break
i could have sworn he had a break like within the last 4/5 weeksanyways for me chapter was alright, a bit of a waste oda should have just had him take out ussop and nami like he did luffy and leave the explaination for the main fight. So many pages in this chapter dedicated to a fight we knew ussop and nami were unable to win.
Guess if this is being beamed out it will alert the underworld properly to the strawhats return in a big way
and its quite obvious to see that this is also allows for kidd to be brought back into the story to join law and luffy in taking out big mom (tho i wish as a supernova Zoro was included but ah well)One thing i do like about this chapter is the mystery it brings
is flamingo coming to the island, if he does that makes things near impossible for Zoro, sami, brookes, and kinemonAt the moment without flamingo they still somehow need to deal with cc, monet, and vergo, i know chopper could release the rest of the crew but the way i see it this is really unlikely as they are being guarded by vergo and monet, and vergo already seems to strong for chopper now add flamingo into the mix and this is going to turn to be one interesting match up come end arc fights
again didn't like the chapter only as i wanted more progression and thought a confrontation between ussop and nami vs cc was pointless (yes i do know he used it to explain things but i think that could have been done better)

"Magma burns fire" says hello.
I never ever understood the issue people had with this. Magma smothers fire. That's sort of intuitive.
-
why is one piece on a break!?!?!?
-

The problem is that that Ace got burned. Akainu literally commented on it. The whole WB division commented on it. There was no smothering, Oda simply bend the rules to his liking.

Edit: I also love your avatar. Priceless face -
-
I didn't notice it mentioned, but Chopper is also confirmed to be outside of the cell and moving around near the end of this chapter.
Great chapter, with some good suspense and a very nice cliffhanger. Also managed top get a fair amount of comedy out of an otherwise tragic situation–Usopp's Fire Bird Star emerging from CC as a singed canary was damn funny, along with the spoon on Vergo's face, and Luffy still being happy in the cell.
-
Not that great a chapter. The story was paused for this encounter with Caesar. The stuff with the kids was more of the same, the oxygen stuff is interesting, and Brownbeard gave me mixed feelings. First, his survival is another case of "no one dies in one piece," and yet him getting up to fight for his crew was cool. I love seeing these strong, over matched fighters go on a rampage like this, in spite of his survival making no sense. However, how come he wasn't suffocating? He was fighting in the same space as Ussop and Nami. I hope that's a plot point and not a plot hole. Or maybe Caesar stopped messing with air when the kids attacked? Weird.
The chapter is saved by the last few pages. A lot of stuff gets set in motion, and it promises that great things will happen in the next chapter. That is…if there wasn't a break next week. Bah, this is a low point in the arc for me.
-
So Luffy would've won had he he kept his distance till the end.
-
Brownbeard getting some character development was good. He feels strongly for his crew which is great.
-
So Luffy would've won if he kept his distance till the end.
Oh, you reminded me. I'll bet Gomu gomu ballon and/or gear 3 will be involved in countering this suffocation. Makes sense right?
-
why is one piece on a break!?!?!?
its not a personal break for Oda, its one of Japan's holidays.

.Brownbeard was actually farther away when CC did the lack of oxygen, he ruched in and made CC move, it canceled his current attack on Usopp & Nami, allowing them to breathe quickly. It happened so fast that there was no time for Brownbeard to suffercate.

If oxygen is removed from someone's lungs, it doesn't matter how strong or tough he/she is, they're still going to collapse from not being able to breathe.
-

It is a personal break for Oda, read the post above yours.
-
Brownbeard should be called Manbeard from now on.
-
Yes, that's exactly why Nami and Usopp were taken out in this chapter. :getlost:
. . . I don't think you get my point. They don't always get bad-ass moments every time we see them, but even the weaklings get their moments to shine.
Think stuff like this:

If Zoro and Sanji and some new hype character save the day, I'm gonna lose it. At least let it be Chopper, Oda.
-
Brownbeard should be called Manbeard from now on.
I approve.
At first I was like 'lol this guys a dickhead'
and then obviously shit hit the whirling device at the speed of shit (ofcourse)
andyeah. -
Wow early chapter release. This is rare.
- Chapter Cover
Well that didn't take long. So I'm guessing this one will focus on Caribou and his trying to get out of Fishman Island.
- Ussop and Nami vs Ceasar
A valiant effort on their part, I gotta admit. Was espeically impressed with Ussop being knowledgeable of using fire against Ceaser and trying to get the kids to attack him instead, dude's really come a long way. And another "of course" moment with depleting the oxygen with the gas. So basiclly that means to beat Ceaser they''ll just have to take him out from a long distance. But how to do so…
-Brownbeard's Revival
Not that I don't mind the Big Damn Hero moment but seriously. The guy took a cannon blast point blank to the face. Then again Ceasar did mention he was a New World captain so I suppose they would have to be tough to survive something like that. At least the crew got another ally provided he survived the explosion. (What I'm I saying, of course he did =P).
- The "Demonstration"
Oh yeah this is gonna backfire big time, Ceasar just gave everyone a front row seat to his downfall. Was still interesting seeing Kidd and Big Mom's group watching though. Don't know if the former will come to their aid or not but least its good seeing them again.
Ugh another break, I swear its always when the story reaches its high point this always happens. Then again were speeding on to the climax so I guess this will be worth the wait.
-
I wonder if the 'spectators' will get to see the 'uninvited guests'?
Wonder how they'd react to seeing who they were exactly?
I wanna knooooooow. -
I bet Kidd is going to have a hilarious reaction to seeing Luffy.
-
I bet Kidd is going to have a hilarious reaction to seeing Luffy.
He'll see Law and Luffy and be like 'PFT the idiots seriously got caught?!'
though he had no idea Luffy was in the New World so that'd be news for him X'D -

Edit: I also love your avatar. Priceless faceI always wondered if it was "burn" fire, burn fire, or simply stop fire and burn the user. Either way fire can't burn magma… but given the right temperature it can evaporate magma. So no wonder it made people wander how is that supposed to work.
Magma actually don't burn thing - things are catching flame or melting from the heat radiating from magma. As far as I know magma is hotter than flame in normal conditions (Normal conditions are define as define as conditions near surface of the earth) However the temperature flame normally depends of the material that is burning and I don't know properties of all materials, so there may exist something that has higher temperature of burning than temperature of magma, (temperature of magma also normally depends on various factors). In case of logia user there is no material. As I see it fire logia user should be able to regulate temperature of the flame according to his will. However hight temperature may have devastating effect on the surrounding. The temperature high enough to evaporate magma should probably evaporate flesh of people standing nearby. Any substance can smother fire if there is big enough amount of said substance and fire isn't hot enough to burn or evaporate that substance. It may be possible, that logia user's fire reverts back to flesh while being smothered, in similar manner as sand logia revers to flesh while being subjected to liquid. In some cases it may be protective mechanism, as what stops fire from burning may not be stopping flesh from moving and escaping from dangerous situation. But of course in confrontation with magma the user would just end burned. -
awesome to know caesar was planning something big all along, so is this just another money shot for Doflamingo? he has huge pirate crews gathered all around, like a blackmarket auction. I'd expect nothing less, and i also would've bet anywhere between all the money in the world and the rest of the money in the world that there was gonna be a break next week ._.
-

Yes!! maybe we'll see sogeking again in the rematch!
-
Usopp's plants will provide a continuous oxygen supply while CC tries to drain it.
-
There goes my man Eustass.
This chapter was epic.I mean , look at what shits are going on in the NW.
Mass murder weapons for sale?Holy crap thats sick.GO GO EUSTASS <3
-
Lawdy that drugged children stuff is so dark. Them screaming in agony, frothing at the mouth, asking for their chains to be taken off… and then Caesar asks them to crack some skulls. Hell, would I even see something like that in Breaking Bad? (I'm caught up on that I'm just saying I don't think I would).
Decent. I agree with the people who say the Nami & Usopp part took too long, but they've had the spotlight the least this arc.

Hawkins's hilt looks like an effigy, while this person's hilt looks normal… Of course, it could be a goof.
