Ok, let´s hope this week the livestream of always actually airs OP (and Toriko, i badly wanna watch the Ozone Herb arc)
http://es-es.justin.tv/atxhd66?#/w/2630805360/2
EDIT: Toriko is airing! The link is allright ^u^
First time watching the live stream… god those commercials were trippy...
It took Megalo a good minute and a half to spit up Shirahoshi. The whole time I was thinking, "Geze, throw her up already!"
Followed immediatly by "Oh crap, don't turn around Sanji! Don't turn around!"
They stretched the everlasting shit out of this episode. It should have ended with the Zoro/Hody fight, not sure what they're going for by holding it off for another episode. They're also going way too hard with the Arlong refrences and flashbacks. There's no good reason he (or kiddie NFP) should have been introduced to this arc so early.
Very nice animation, though. There; one positive.
I loved the flashback
there´s only one screencap of 2ch, of a close up of Hody´s face with some text over it…
I took this one, and i will take a fruckload more when i get the raw
op 537's preview: http://www.fujitv.co.jp/GPplayer/e/GPplayerJMe.html?anime/onepiece/onepiece_20120227a&type=flv

preview looks awesome.
Am I the only one who found it hilarious on how they stretched the scene with Megalo trying to spit Shirahoshi out of his body for an entire minute?
Nevermind 16 chars
Hmph, that eyecatch is still bugging me. What was wrong with the old ones? Why are they stalling on showing new Straw Hat catches?
Zoro's clash with Hody was pretty cool, and I do appreciate the attempts to give more characterization to the New Fishman Pirates. The humans just strolling around with their bubble helmets entirely unimpeded by buoyancy physics was pretty silly, however.
Zoro going underwater felt so underwhelming and undramatic(Zoro's theme of strong world would have been epic). The manga version is way better.
ok episode but it messed up the part I was excited to see.
This episode is gonna fuel theories about Zoro having haki.
Good episode.
The beginning with Luffy and Shirahoshi looking at clouds was so dull and random. Almost killed the episode for me.
The only noteworthy parts are the Zoro vs Hody fight and some glimpses of Arlong and the Young NFP.
Zoro blocking the water arrows with the hilt of his sword was so awesome. +5 points to Toei.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the part where Usopp kicked Brook. That was hysterical.
@Crossword:

Because Toei Animation is slow and cheap.
Very bad episode. Zoro's fight wasn't finished, and the fucking shark wanted 1 minute to spit Shirahoshi… I mean really?
Also the part with human pirates with bubbles around their head, walking around fishman district and acting like bosses was straight up idiotic. It's another thing telling that humans dominate the land, and it is another thing to show some random pirates acting like bosses in the Fishman District, were every decent grown up fighter could fuck them 'till kingdom come. The only good thing was the graphics, especially with Zoro, but this chapter was so fucking slow and filled with filler scenes.
Good action and animation, meh directing. Next week looks good.
it's sort of annoying how the animators stretch one chapter's content; I was waiting for Hody's swift defeat, but all I got was megalo trying not to throwup along with more of Shirahoshi's annoyingly high voice
The clash with Hody wasn't resolved until the next chapter, anyway.
Wait. People were actually expecting Toei to increase the content beyond one chapter = one episode?
Hahahaha! Ain't that a riot!
It's nice to see that they're trying to extend things a little more so that we get a clearer picture, but there's just too much stretching somehow. Especially that Megalo part since I was screaming at the screen "JUST SPIT HER UP ALREADY!"
Also…
! The fishkiddies was a filler flashback, wasn't it? Because it kind of ruins something to come a bit when you think about it…
Meh, so I guess it's safe to assume this will be the longest anime arc, unless they increase the pacing.
Wait. People were actually expecting Toei to increase the content beyond one chapter = one episode?
Hahahaha! Ain't that a riot!
Yeah, and considering Oda takes breaks and the anime doesn't, they have to stretch it out beyond 1 chapter = 1 episode. More like 7 chapters = 8 episodes or something, unless they decide to add filler arcs to cover the gaps.
The filler flashback was simply stupid. Nothing like that ever happened to Hody and his gang
! because humans did NOTHING to him. That's the whole point to his character as a crazy fanatic.
! And while the Zoro/Hody fight looked good, the best part to me was that for Zoro Hody was complete fodder so prolonging that fight and making Zoro worry about his air running out takes that away.
The anime has been really decent fo a while now but this episode was not true to the characters or the story.
Humans still did nothing to Hody, they've tried but failed thanks to Arlong. It was a good filler flashback showing more reasons why Hody admires Arlong, nothing wrong there IMO.

! I have noticed that as well but I am not a fan of Hodi so I did not care.
I pretty much agree with you.
@Sean:
Humans still did nothing to Hody, they've tried but failed thanks to Arlong.
Hody and his crew only needed one reason to admire Arlong: He was a racist dick. The big speech Fukaboshi gives about them loses all of its impact if there is any other motivation for them.
Definitely a slow episode, but not a bad one. I enjoyed it.

Hody Jones is supposed to have had very little contact with humans, much less violent ones in his childhood. Remember that, for a time, all the information he got about them was only through word of mouth. That's why there's an air of entitlement and self-righteousness to his character. Fighting to save one of his friends from being kidnapped breaks this. This is why the line "nothing" means so much to who he was and is.
! The flashback also kills the awesome impact seeing Arlong for the first time with the Sun Pirates had. Like I said, they're trying too hard to make the audience have some sort of nostalgiagasm by repeatedly mentioning him and having his face show up.
I didn't mind them pushing up the bubbly coral or Den or Hachi's flashback, but this flashback was by far the single worse thing they could have done to this arc so far.
@Miss:

I totally agree with you. I can't help but think how confusing it may be for anime-only watchers when they get to the part when Hody states his reason for hating humans…
Other than that, I actually enjoyed most of the episode, though it was pretty darn slow at times. Hody's attacks looked cool at least.
Yeah that flashback pretty much fucks up Hody's backstory. That was an amazingly stupid thing for them to do.
a wonderful episode and a much more wonderful flashback <3 Oh i gonna love the animation much more then the manga for sure the next time 8D And i dunno what you people all bitching around because of this filler, i mean humans actually did nothing to hody, they kidnapped Dosun and not Hody, so he was not directly confronted with Humans himself, he just tried to stop them with his friends. So i dont see a mistake here in character development of Hody, the opposite is the case and i am thankful to the anime that they flash out him that much to be honest.

Crap. I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it.
Thanks, Toei, for putting a big plot hole into your own anime. facepalm
Although, this wouldn't be the first time.

I don't know about you, but attempted kidnapping of a friend and threatening to kidnap you to sell as slaves is more than traumatizing enough to qualify as 'something". Especially if it is something you witness as a child.
I don't mind the stretched Zoro fight so much, but this… this is a gaping plothole I'm wondering how they're going to fix.
Fishman Island arc is the One Piece's Namek, and Hordy Jones is Freeza
Fishman Island arc is the One Piece's Namek, and Hordy Jones is Freeza
That honor has to go to the Skypiea arc. Cause that's the longest one.
Anyway, okay episode, but I agree that the flashback kinda ruins Hody's motivation and the whole idea behind his character.
Was pretty disappointed that they added that mini-flashback segment for Hody. Nami's silent reaction to seeing Arlong's tattoo didn't grab me like it did in the manga. Aside from those things, episode was just okay I guess. Enjoyed the fight sequence, and Megalo puking up Shirahoshi. That's pretty much it. Bleh.

Unless they have lived some super sheltered and luxurious lives of course that it happened. It was happening all over FI
Man, Zoro's fight was awesome, it had great art, animation and choreography. Since in the manga we only really got to see the conclusion of the fight, while most of it happened off-screen I really appreciated these added scenes. I also loved seeing Usopp kicking Brook for saying that tasteless joke.
The rest of the episode was also fairly entertaining for me, although that flashback does contradict one of Hody's later statements. At least we got to see Arlong acting like boss again and the preview for the next episode looks nice as well.
I dont' think the flashback contradict hodi's character, if he already hated humans before that happened, wouldn't all the contradictions be solved?
and toei keeps making the mistake of gear 2nd luffy.
its parts of the body now not the entire body.
Decent episode overall.I enjoyed it.
When did Luffy use Gear 2nd?
I think Hody's flashback was unnecessary, uncalled for, ridiculously and utterly stupid. It was really a bad move to do. The idea of Hody was that he is a monster bred from society's prejudice, and the fact that no human had ever harm (or tried to harm) him, emphasizes what he was. But now with this insertion, we know a human had tried to kidnap him before and Hody's rage is a bit more justifiable. I felt sympathy when that pirate tried to kidnap them, and soon realized that you weren't supposed to sympathize with Hody.
If the animators wanted to show why he revered Arlong so much, they can just portray Arlong coming back from wherever he's been and telling them all this stories about human scums. Though I know it probably (hopefully) won't affect much of the story or the characterization, I still can't get that bitter taste in my tongue after seeing this episode
This is how you DON'T do filler. Amazingly stupid flashback, loads of padding, and how the hell do you shoot water droplet-bullets underwater. I mean really, how.
When did Luffy use Gear 2nd?
In the preview for next episode, when Luffy attacks Decken and the puffer-fish guy.
and toei keeps making the mistake of gear 2nd luffy.
its parts of the body now not the entire body.
Toei is going to do that forever,I think.Oda has no problem with it,though….
So the Hody flashback wasn't in the manga ?
I din't know that anymore but even so i din't thought i was bad or anything don't know what the exact problem is with it, it was sort of fitting i thought.
Liked the episode, the flashback kinda mess with something later on but nice Arlong again even if i hate his guts ,Brook he doenst know but he kinda deserve that kick(i chuckle at the joke to be honest) ,im liking the Luffy and Shirahoshi moments so far( estabilishing friendship) and the Zoro and Hody fight was enjoyable .
Next week we are going to have some funny momments with VDD and Sanji and some fights ,looking foward to it.
I find odd some you guys expect more "speed" when Toei shows no inclination of doing so.

It contradicts with something that happens at end of this arc,as somebdoy mention it would have been better just showing Arlong telling his story's of superiority or something among those line, right know this contradicts with Hodi character later on.
@The:

Agreed, this was a mishandled episode–especially the flashback. Having the future New Fishman Pirates watch Arlong kick human ass would been okay, but everything before heavily contradicts what is revealed later about about Hody's hatred of humans. The extended fight with Hody and Zoro wouldn't have been so bad either if, as you said, the underwater water bullet business wasn't so inane.
However, I did find the near-minute of Megalo gagging pretty amusing.
If the animators wanted to show why he revered Arlong so much, they can just portray Arlong coming back from wherever he's been and telling them all this stories about human scums.
This exact same thing happens later on in the manga; they could have easily waited for it and done it the way it's supposed to be. They've been taking a lot of "artistic liberties" with this arc - we now saw the bad side to that. Toei can't do anything in moderation, it seems. This filler was just done for filler's sake. It brought more negatives than positives to the table.. which is none.
The underwater bullets are no more inane than the Mizugokoro and Ultramarine techniques.
Few people understand that Oda has never drawn Luffy with pink skin during gear second. It is an animation only effect. Volume's 40 and 44 have covers drawn and colored by Oda that showcase Luffy in G2 with only smoke. I concede that Oda never drew the trademark pumping of blood during the PX-5 encounter or vs Hammond and Hyozou.
I understand why some might praise the Arlong flashback while others condemn it. I saw it as
! good warm up for Arlong's Seiyu, since he plays a highly important role in the flashback. I also loved Arolng's treatment of the humans, those were pirates who had survived the 1st half of the GL, and he used his nose to beat them. I enjoyed rooting for Arlong, because One Piece without brutality might as well be 4kids.
Really offended by the Zoro Hody fight scene,
! I guess they choose to show Zoro using CoO as a replacement for beating Hody underwater in a single strike. Not to mention that Zoro's tornado should of continued rampaging around the palace
I did however love the animation during the underwater scene
