More confirmed characters including Silat, Erika and Laban. Still no Gambino.

I thought we saw Gambino in a trailer already?
-
I dont see Puck. Did they got rid of him again? xD
-
The movies are covering the Golden Age. Why would you expect Puck to be featured in a character display?
-
Well that was a very tired me posting there. Brain lag :/

Isn't it about time for chapter spoilers to start popping up?
-
It would be pretty messed up if Gambino isn't in this, or at least a stand-in for Gambino. Many of Guts's emotions and decisions in the Golden Age arc reflect his experiences with Gambino, especially his death. It would be odd if they don't show why Guts acts the way he does. I wasn't expecting the rape to be in the film, but I surely hope his childhood is not completely omitted.

Berserk is to return January 27, so it will probably be another week before spoilers show up.

I predict Miura will follow on Togashi's steps and bring us more than 4 chapters before going on hiatus again :ninja:
-
About no gambino thing, that part could be done in a flashback, in one of those mute trippy animation style.
-
From what I read Gambino and Donovan will be there. There will be no Guts flashback but there will be something during Guts nightmare after Griffith defeats him and Casca has to lay with him. So at least it is something.
-
I wonder how that would work. With Gambino and Donovan presented as flashbacks rather then something we know ahead of time. Interesting? Maybe.
As long as they keep Gutt's mid-coitus breakdown it should be fine. -
The Berserk twitter thing just announced the manga is resuming in Young Animal issue 3 going on sale 1/27. Is that news? I haven't heard it before.

That would pretty much be how the first anime handled it then.

Sounds good, we might be able to get to Elfheim in 2012…lol, who am I even kidding? We won't see it before 2013 at this rate.
-
@RobbyBevard:

The anime showed all of it that they ever showed in one quick flashback.
I meant more gradual pacing of revealing Gutt's backstory, and maybe finally Gutts sort of explaining it all like he does in his outburst to Casca when they're having sex.
They cut the latter out in the old anime to begin with.
-
few more scenes, some look good other part of cg not as much.
-
I'm not really trying to scrutinize this new anime that much (unless they do something really bad/dumb).
I just expect a really visually vivid epic adaptation of the manga, not some point for point perfect version. It's just a treat, and I'm not going to look this gift horse in the mouth.
-
So when exactly is this suppossed to be coming out?
-
One would hope, very very soon.

Many thanks.

Et tu, Berserk?

From Miura during Berserk event:
So, what Miura said about the God Hand.He was asked about their origin story, and he essentially said it would be shown soon enough. But he added that for him, "soon" meant around a year. That being said, he's currently working on the manuscript for it, so we know it's something we can really look forward to.He said he saw the movie of course, he thanked the director very much and said he was impressed. He draws around a page per day. He also jokingly added that since the manga is long running, he's making efforts to live long enough to finish it. At first he expected it to end during his 20s, then his 30s, and now he's even prepared for it to last until his 60s if necessary.
-
From Miura during Berserk event:
wow a great and devoted man.
Now I really think it's unfair there's so many people that doesn't know the thruth and blame him for hiatuses -
God Hand origin? In one year?
.
Can we skip this year, please? -
So that means God Hand origin within 5 chapters? :D
-
God Hand focused story in 2013? Sweet.
-
Must have Void's backstory NOW.
-
I'm thinking the king of Elfhelm will be the one to tell of the origin of the godhand.
-
ive always been super curious about seeing that!!
-
I have a feeling we'll also hear more of SK's backstory once we learn of Void.
-
There are plenty of fan made trailers with different scenes and music but this one tops them all.
Especially cause of the music.!
Just few more days away. -
I know they save a shit ton of money, people and time in making the movie 3D, but damn does it look B.
-
@Sonic:

Well they don't just save money to have a higher profit in the end. It's probably the only way they can make a Berserk movie and not be in the red. Of course we would like to see Ghibli like animation but more than likely the number of paying viewers won't allow for that.
Kinda related… Your prediction, how much will this make at the movie theaters? The last One Piece movie made ~5 Billion Yen. Princess Mononoke for example had a 2 billion budget and brought in 14 billion yen.
Maybe 1 billion at the box office for each Berserk movie?
-
The 3D thing is a stylistic choice, not a budgetary one.

what style is that ? the style of looking bad instead of good ?

I think I have asked this before, but I forget the answers I got.
I plan on reading the Berserk manga REALLY soon. I finished the anime late last year and loved it eventhough it did have problems.
Anyway to my question, when I read through the manga, should I read the 'Lost Chapter' Chapter 83, or skip it? Also is it worth the money to buy the manga? What I mean by this, is it in danger of being cancelled in America and does it have good translations?

Lost chapter??
I think its worth it even if we have to wait a lot of time for the new volumes and chapters , i want to buy even if i cant get here, im ordering online. -
The Lost Chapter is skippable, it's more intersting than anything.
Also the Dark Horse manga is good quality, worth the money. -
Kinda related… Your prediction, how much will this make at the movie theaters? The last One Piece movie made ~5 Billion Yen. Princess Mononoke for example had a 2 billion budget and brought in 14 billion yen.
Monoke was the the highest grossing animated film in Japan ever at the time, (And Mononoke is 15 years old, so… inflation.) ip unti lSpirited away did nearly twice as well a few years later. As is, Strong World was one of, if not THE highest grossing Japanese film that year... and htat had all the build up of Oda working on it and OP setting records, and it still didn't come anywhere near the work of the Ghibli studio. (I think Spirited Away is still the all time record holder at 28 billion yen)
Berserk isn't going to make anywhere near that, it doesn't have mass appeal. Little kids aren't going to see it for instance. And despite the perception of "in Japan everyone watches anime, including adults!" that's... really not true. The Berserk audience is extremely limited.
I have no idea what it'll make. But can't even begin to compare it Ghibli. Thats comparing Apples and Astronaut shuttles. Possibly around the same as the Evangelion remakes, so 1 billion might be about right... But I'd guess it'd do closer to what the average annual shonen releases do... about half a billion. (Though that sounds far more impressive than it does in dollars.)
-
For the 'Lost Chapter', it's interesting, but it's also interesting in a 'Holy Crap. I kind of wished I hadn't just read that and just waited until it's revealed later.' kind of way.
-
Well, Miura said that the reason he removed that chapter (81 I think it was) was because he decided he didn't want to use that idea, that it limited the universe too much by "explaining god" like that.
And honestly I think the CG looks fine. It's cel shaded in order to no clash with the hand-drawn animation. I dunno what the big deal is.
-
what style is that ? the style of looking bad instead of good ?
At worst it looks a bit awkward.
And by any measure it shits all over the old anime, so comparatively you really ought to get the hell over it.
-
I think the lost chapter is worth reading. It definitely gives a little more context into how the universe of Berserk functions in a sense. That said I can see why Miura removed it since it does perhaps give away too much too early into the story.
Though Kewl's explanation of saying Miura didn't want to use that idea is the first I've heard of it. I really liked
! the Idea of Evil and how it came to be.

6 minute vid some new scenes

I may be alone in this, but I sort of hope some of the campier elements of Berserk are retained in the feature. While the TV anime pared down some of the manga's broadly comedic moments (in the Golden Age Arc) and had to censor the insanely excessive decapitations, it at least kept the violence looking unusually excessive and kept the goofy expressions on the "enemy's" faces right before they made contact with Guts' giganto blade. The Golden Age arc was filled with those tasteless, yet very fun and detailed scenes of Guts knocking eyeballs out of skulls and sending organs and other assorted body parts flying among various gruesome men in armor. It was stuff like this that helped keep the series from getting too grounded in reality.
Although the feature seems to be inventing campy stuff, like Griffith jumping 30 feet during his duel with Guts (to the point where Guts actually loses sight of him) before levitating onto his sword, the trailers make the series look a bit too…clean. Hopefully that material has just been withheld for marketing reasons.
Well, Miura said that the reason he removed that chapter (81 I think it was) was because he decided he didn't want to use that idea, that it limited the universe too much by "explaining god" like that.
Makes sense. Its removal from the volumes pretty much makes it non-canon. In the past 15 years since he made that chapter, Miura likely would go about such material in a significantly different way and has a different idea of how he wants his universe set up. It's good as a curio and as a snapshot of a possible concept of the Berserk universe at that time, but ultimately non-canon.
