Big Mam looks like the ultimate personification of a "Yo Mama" joke.
Chapter 651 : "The Voice From The New World"
-
-
Was it ever confirmed by ODA which one of the silhouettes are which. Was it said in green. In this chapter big mom looks like the silhouette that has been connected to kaidou.

Well super predictable chapter this week except for the fact that Caribou was KO'd.
Totally knew that Luffy would somehow get Big Mam to forget Fishman Island and target them.
WOW is Big Mam's crew going to be weird. They are like stranger than Moria's whole crew, zombies and all.
-
Nice Alice in Wonderland rip off, Oda.
Yeah I liked that homage as well.
Homage /=/ rip-off
But I liked it too.
-
Awesome chapter… I smell perfect opponents for Zoro and Sanji
-
Last i checked, Blackbeard got his ass handed to him by a Whitebeard who was practically dead already.
And holy crap…i've not enjoyed a chapter this much in such a long time. 1 of the Emperors makes an apperance, and Luffy declares war on her ( but then again, he declared war upon the World Government so...big deal...)
Absolutely brilliant chapter. I can't wait for what'll happen next.
It was good to see Kidd was tearing it up in the New World....he's pretty full of himself if he's directly targetting 1 of the Emperors. Perhaps she is the weak link of the 4 at the moment, and her grip on power is at an end.
Well Drake easily attacked one of Kaidou's islands so you can't really say that Big Mam is a weak link. Also that idea about her having an acid makes sense because Oda already hinted to that when she said that her stomach acid is over filling with excitement
-
This was a great chapter, and with it we know the New World journey the SHs will have is bubbling up slowly, just like the events throughout the first half of the GL bubbled up to the WB War. I guess that Big Mam is the weakest Yonkou, but still extremely powerful. She was revealed a bit like Kizaru was in terms of we thought we were going to see Akainu before Kizaru but we didn't. Kaidou got more build up than her (all the way back from Thriller Bark) but she's kinda come out of nowhere since we saw the candy factory.
Funny how Luffy has declared war against three Yonkou now, and has a fourth as his target also (Declared war against WB and Big Mam at first point of contact lol, has already told Shanks that he will gather a strong crew and surpass him, and Luffy also has Blackbeard in his sights). He's declared war against the government aswell lol. And to make things more annoying for Big Mam, which she will soon realise, is that she's got Kidd fucking with her aswell. Nice to hear that he's still going ape shit in the New World.
As for Caribou… I'd bet a lot that he will come into contact with a strong person and reveal what he heard about Poseidon in exchange for money or power.
We've seen some crazy designs in the past few years, I hope Oda slows down a little and brings it back to what we had in Skypiea and before that... normal looking people who are strong. Now it seems everyone has some crazy trait and style to match it. It's cool to see, but not all the time as it makes things a little less realistic.
-
I knew big mam would be big, but damn, i didn't think she'd be that big. It seems as if every opponent will be 20% bigger then the previous. And she also appears to be a cannibal, which makes her even more creepy. How that frightening bulk of flesh could have possibly spawned a nice pirate like Lola is beyond me.
Where does it said that she is Lola's mom i tought it was said that Lola's mother was a powerfull pirate, that doesn't necessarily mean yonkou.
-
I'm starting to doubt that Lola is Big Mom's kid.
-
Maybe I'm grasping at the straws here, but the fact that Oda displayed Big Mam in the shadows, like he did with the Shichibukai (Crocodile and Moria), with Enel, and maybe others. I think even with Lucci at one point, I could be mistaken. What I'm trying to say is that Oda is illustrating symbolically that Big Mam will be a definite enemy in the future, and it will only be a matter of time until they battle each other.
-

I agree wholeheartedly. We could use less crowd panels, too. Or at least, a balance between normal looking people and oddballs. I understand exactly what Oda is trying to do with making a lot of the characters like that lately, but I think he's made his point.
homage =/= rip off
I'm quite aware of that lol. I was saying what he called a ripoff was a homage.
-
Disappointed that Caribou ended up as nothing. Much like VDD. All hype that he'll actually be something and then nothing.
Big Mom reminds me of Vasco Shot in drag.
All hype?
Oda made him look like a logia clow that would be easily crushed by the strawhats SINCE THE FIRST MOMENT HE STEPPED IN THOUSAND SUNNY…and guess what? That's exactly what happened. So,what in the world made you think the opposite?
Luffy didn't train for 2 years to have a hard fight against a stupid logia rookie without haki control like Caribou. And one more thing:he isn't 'nothing' like you said. Oda has plans for Caribou, but not like the ones that you fantasized. In fact,I believe that he created Caribou for two main purposes:A)to show how strong the strawhats became B)To make him discover about Poseidon and spread this information, telling it to marines/yonkous/whatever. -

Don't forget we still need to see snakeneck tribe.
-

Lol, my bad.
-
So who still think big mom is Lolas mother lol , I called it be4 so many times she is not her mother
-
I called it:
@isrnick:I think it is more likely that somehow the situation will end up reversed so that the Strawhats are seem as pirates who have taken FI from Big Mam and turned it into their territory, and that they even took all the candy from Big Mam for themselves. This way FI wouldn't be blamed for not delivering the candy, and the SH would take the blame instead, setting up the first conflict between them and a Yonkou (which wouldn't need to be resolved right now, only later in the NW)…
16 chars of :D
-
Hmm since luffy is officially protecting Fishman Island right now, there is no need for shirahoshi to stay and protect it as it was assumed will happen. So… ancient weapon for nakama :ninja:
-
Wasn't that douche in the train to Enies Lobby Sanji fought one of those as well?
No. Jerry just has big limbs.
Looking at both Jerry and Baron Tamago we can see a difference. Jerry's limbs are in proportion to rest of body, similar to how Whitebeard is proportional. Tamago's legs is not proportional. His thighbone is as long as his torso, Jerry's torso was almost as long as his full leg (which is how most porportial people are)

Thank you, you beat me to it. Oda never said Lola is daughter of Big Mam, only fans have said that. All wa said that Lola's mom was a powerful pirate in the New World. Sorry people, but Big Mam is NOT the only powerful female pirate in the New World, she's just the highest female as a Yonkou. There are other strong female pirates, two have been named were allies to Whitebeard= Elmy and Whitey Bay. Some have moved to wondering if Elmy is Lola's mom, but it could be a pirate we don't know, one that Oda hasn't revealed yet.
Don't forget we still need to see snakeneck tribe.
We haven't seen two other tribes tht were mentioned same time as the snakenecks and longlegs= dwarves and minkmen.
I wonder if 'minkmen' is jsut a collective term to decribe a group, similar fishmen covers types that more than just actual fish, like invertebrates (octopus, squid). If so I wonder if minkmen may be these intelligent bipedal animals like Bebo and Pekoms.edit= still looking for chapter w/ Jerry in it. once found I'll add link

Luffy saying Fishman Island will be his turf was just boss.

// We've seen parts of Big Mam's face. Whatever she is, it's freaking gigantic.
–> She isn't on Fishman Island so we've neither confirmed nor denied her relationship with Lola.
--> Big Mam says she couldn't stop her "stomach acid from overflowing." Possibly hinting at how she fights.// There's this Tri-clops who is going to be obviously important later on in the series.
–> Next nakama? :D You know people were hypothesizing that the moment they saw her. Not me, but I have no reason not to believe so either, so.. whatever. :P// I predict Zoro is gonna fight Baron Tamago soon.
–> I know that Pekoms has a sword, as well as this other dude with a stupidly large sword, but..
–> Tamago has a slash across his eye. I predict we learn what the heck it means for Zoro, Baron, and possibly Rayleigh as well!
--> In that respect, I think the Straw Hats will just blow Pekoms and Baron away and the giant sword dude is going to be Zoro's real opponent when Big Mam shows (whenever that is).// I predict Baron Tamago, Trafalgar Law, Kuma and Gol D. Roger are related in some way.
--> Look at Tamago's pants \ Law's Hat \ Kuma's Hat \ Roger's Bandana
–> I noticed Law and Kuma's hats and Roger's bandana earlier but I didn't want to mention it ever. But 4 incidences should no longer be considered coincidence.
--> It's hard to really hypothesize how the heck these people in different crews and entirely different situations could be related to each other, but why not just guess that it has something to do with the Will of D./Void Century/Rio Poneglyph/One Piece/blah blah blah. :P -
I kind of think Big Mom's crew is part of failed experiments from a mad scientist. Just because they're all weird, and that plot would be cool.
About the chapter, not the best of this arc, but the one more "fangasm inducing". Just… awesome.
-
Big Mom and her crew still remind me of things you'd see in the Yellow Submarine….
-
Awesome chapter… I smell perfect opponents for Zoro and Sanji
I dont think they have been introduced.
-
Fishman Island is shaping up nicely. Baron Tamago and Pekomz are some of the coolest looking characters I've seen in OP for as long time. Their designs really makes up for that frankly weird looking '-Dosun' guy and Ikaros Much who both looked like twats.
And Big Mum is really big. And she has a Triclops in her crew. And Kidd's brutality may've saved the day.
But what's gonna' happen? Will Luffy be able to keep his head down and not cause another national emergency on FI? Surely not!
I'm really glad to hear that Kidd's tearing the NW up and taking on some of the big dogs (Mums?) though. But it makes me think about which Supernovas have actually survived these two years, Kidd and Law're a given, I think, and the fate of Bonney is still truly uncertain but what about some of the other guys? If anyone hasn't made it/been enveloped into a larger crew like the Spade Pirates, I'd say it'd be Apoo or Bege, I don't know why, they just seemed too gimmicky for me…
EDIT: LOLOLOLOLOL - I did not read the last page! Madness! OMFGWTF, the SH are getting some territory! This is amazing! D'ya remember Drake on that Winter Island where he confronted one of Kaidou's boys (he had a gun for a hand and looked like a massive scarecrow)? That guy was protecting the island on the behalf of Kaidou, do you think that could be Jinbei's (or even Rayleigh's) role for the SH? Will Jinbei join the crew after all?
-
Not much for fangasms, BUT THAT WAS AMAZING.
-
Amazing chapter, idc about big mom. Captain freaking Kidd fuking emperors ships like a boss made this chapter full of win. I can't wait until the strawhats meet Kidd crew. They have unfinished business.
-
Some people seem to hate them, but I love Oda's surreal character designs. I'm digging Big Mom's crew right now.
I don't know what to think about the current status of the Fishman Island arc and Jinbei. Luffy has yet to destroy the place, so they have to spend some more time around there. Plus, there are still parts of the island to explore and we don't know if the log pose is set, yet. They're still probably going to spend time on Fishman Island (I'm hoping enough to resolve Jinbei's duties), but I'm not sure what they're going to do. Wait quietly for Big Mom's crew to come? Either way, I'm feeling an uncertain excitement for the next chapter… in two weeks...
-
Really hope the crew smartens up and runs using Lola's mom card maybe after running into a single division. That way we can also stop this BM is Lola's mom business.
-
Sanji is so badass with his toy animal counterpart (and so is Franky)! Pecoms might be another awakened zoan… he's definitely the same kind as Bepo (not that I'm implying Bepo is confirmed as awakened zoan). Caribou is down but he still knows of Poseidon. He might become the post-timeskip Buggy. Big Mom's crew consists of members that are not so intimidating superficially... It is really so nice that Oda comes up with this resolution to the Caribou and candy issues; it makes things go faster, and a great way to setup Big Mom's arc.
-
BTW, also hope that Jimbe's duty has something to do with Big Mom's unstable rule on FI. Then, he'll join Luffy at the end of next arc.

Weekly Shonen Jump #05-06 cover HQ.

Interesting cover. Giving implications that all the other series are slaves to One Piece.

Well, there's also the fact that Luffy directly challenged her. So yeah, they're gonna fight. >_>
There's nothing definitive here saying Big Mom isn't Lola's mother, what's everybody getting so hussy about? Neither side has significant evidence for it.
-
Wonder how Shanks will react to this if word gets to him. Will he intervene or hold back when Luffy eventually confronts Charlotte? That will show whether Luffy's ready or not to measure himself up to a Yonkou.
As much as I dn't want it to happen so soon the fact that Fishman Island is at stake here makes me think that this conflict will happen sooner than we think. Luffy himself stated that it's too dangerous to leave Fishman Island in Lotte's hands so dn't think he will waste time exploring the New World first before confronting her.Or will he?he will be so excited etc afterall hmm I dn't know. Fishman Island is four days away from cake Island right?(this was dropped on damn purpose) I'm thinking that if anything the strawhats will fight against Big Mum very soon and get beaten making this their entrance into the New World and their first taste of a completely different level from Paradise. Even if they lose, positive acknowledgement from a Yonkou perhaps even some mild friendship (looks at Big Mam again…...) might follow paving the way for an alliance later in the story.
PS: But the SHs are stronger than the SPs at this point two years ago, should they struggle against an opponent so soon into the NW? This bringing of a Yonkou into the picture this early is confusing where are you taking this Oda jumps around I always rooted for a part two to this arc but so many things are into the picture which way is this gonna go
Edit: Oh silly me she does say she is willing to switch her wrath from the island to Luffy. There is thus no immediate danger and need for a confrontation with a Yonkou to save the island the gang can enter the New World and take its time until their paths cross in a couple of chapters like Vongola Boss has posted. Franky will repair the machines before leaving they will produce the sweets and things will go back to 'normal' for now. So,back to that Poseidon business and Jinbei's unresolved duty.
-
Well, there's also the fact that Luffy directly challenged her. So yeah, they're gonna fight. >_>
Ah, I didn't mention it, but I meant relatively soon. Most likely after the next two arcs. After Oda establishes well what Luffy's strength is compared to those in the New World.
-

What if that small girl sitting next to her in the chair is Lola? As crazy as this sounds, she could've eaten a DF that made her lose weight and change her appearance slightly… and apparently grow a third eye. Hey, she wouldn't be the first large woman to eat a DF and become tiny...
-
can someone explain what Zoro meant by saying "I got it, he's a compass"
I missed that joke. How did Zoro get to saying that?

This post is deleted!

That chapter was insane loved it, im sooo pumped
Big Mom's face kinda looks like that witch from the Spirited away.
Me too really creepy

Special page with a new OP omake (thanks ishuhui.com).

I don't wanna take credit for this, but a redditor nitrosGG said that he's probably referring to a geometry compass

I'm not saying definitively that she is. I'm just really confused by all the people posting on this thread "well NOW we know she isn't Lola's mom" when there's literally nothing in this chapter that suggests that.
-

Agreed 100%. If she had shown up AT fishman island and the vivre card didn't move, then we'd have at least some sort of evidence/confirmation suggesting that
But being that she's nowhere near the mugiwaras, we've learned nothing either way -
Zoro is explaining jokes? Someone got clever…
Well, well... Think we can expect the Celestial Dragons to butt into this beautiful mess? -
could it be that Big Mom isnt really that big. remember with Moria,we ( well,i thought) he was a freakin giant, but it was an optical illusion cause those messengers were just really tiny.It could be that guy who contacted big mom directly is just small.
I mean, look at the telesnail in her hand, then look at it compared to a normal person.
!
Also,LMFAO!!!!! Luffy answering the telesnail was JUST like at Marineford!!!!
-
Fantastic chapter, which I didn't expect today.
So I am happy.
This year ends with a don for me… :)And it is not New Year yet!
-
So we know Big mom is stupid powerful but just to give a hint. Marco would probably brutalize Luffy and and admiral would do the same to Marco….and a Yonkou would probably (and has) fucked up an admiral. Though it's not surprising Luffy always jumps into battles with people stronger than him only to grow immensely before fighting that person. We might finally get some sea battles! This is promising to be the most epic showdown since Luffy beat Crocodile.
why do people say that the top fighters for a yonkou can't fight admirals, they fought them just fine, or did people not see they fought them to a stand still until WB had heart problems and they got more concerned with him then there fight??? they completely stood their ground, marco got distracted by WB and wasn't even defeated by kizaru, and aokiji took advantage of Jozu distraction when he was concerned about marco, and used one of his most powerful moves stop doing power levels you don't know shit about, it woul;d be a long match if they fought, I'm not saying they'd win but it would obviously be completely different from the war
oh yeah, i see a lion with a sword and the baron has Long legs, my guess is Big Mama says to take the treasure from them and a zoro and sanji match up begins where they get their ass kicked and find out what Yonkou subordinates are really like
do we think Luffy will make it their in 4 days, idk why they'd keep saying that if it wasn't a big event, if luffy does go face a yonkou my guess is he gets major super nova help or stronger people, there's no way in hell Luffy can already fight a yonkou on equal grounds with all the other rivals he's yet to finish things up with, and since it's only the beginning
-
Fun chapter, but I'm getting a Moria dejà vu with Big Mom.
-
I'm not saying definitively that she is. I'm just really confused by all the people posting on this thread "well NOW we know she isn't Lola's mom" when there's literally nothing in this chapter that suggests that.
The opposite is also true. There is nothing to suggest that Lola is the daughter of Big Mam. I'm not one of those to claim "Now we know" because we knever knew in the first place. Nowhere does Oda say who Lola's mom is, only that she's a strong pirate in the New World. That doesn't mean it has to be the highest ranking female pirate (yonkou) there. After all we don't know what level of 'strong' measures that Lola was using, if she was just comparing to the current level of the Strawhat crew, then Elmy and Whitey Bay fit the 'really strong' description. I think Whitey Bay is too young to be Lola's mom but Elmy could be it or …...
...Oda will create a new character we have not seen yet to be Lola's mom.
-
The chapter was so full of new information and characters that I think most people have overlooked one hidden very interesting one about the new world hidden in the chapter.
The introduction of the Cake Island:
ON A CERTAIN SEA in the new world, whole cake island.
The "on a certain sea" part is really interesting. Can it be that the new world is divided by "seas"?
Because if I remember correctly the battle between Roger and Shiki which was also in the new world was called the "Ed War" and there was no Island nearby which means the name of the "Ed War" comes possible from the sea they were on. -
The opposite is also true. There is nothing to suggest that Lola is the daughter of Big Mam. I'm not one of those to claim "Now we know" because we knever knew in the first place. Yeah, again, I'm not claiming she is. I'm just saying it's not logical to shoot down the possibility because of this chapter, because nothing in this chapter counteracts that idea.
I'm saying it's possible and we have no contrary evidence, yet. That's a very different statement from "she's Lola's mom".
