If Jinbe says no, Luffy will just hunt him down until he agrees. Just like Chopper and Franky.
And Sanji.
Granted, Luffy was on the boat the whole time, but once he had his mind set, there was no refusing him.

Personally I doubt he'll refuse now that Luffy made up his mind. If he does refuse Luffy would probably keep going until he admits defeat at this point.
Why brennen… why?
I was so glad the thread was finally closed... Whoever still doubt it should search for a new manga or keep it for himself
Please welcome Jinbei
Congrads to ppl who voted for Jimbe
I think Jinbei will say no and stay on fisman island and LUffy will respect that(because predicting mainstream is lame ;) )
I think it'd be best if we keep the thread open for another week or so. Let people argue out and discuss the remnants of the Jinbe nonsense, until it is 100% confirmed without-a-shroud-of-doubt done– better here than in the chapter thread. THEN we can close this thread and make a new thread... the quest for teh final nekumu!
Yeah keep it open. Will be amusing to see responses/read reactions!
I am also waiting for Jinbe to agree or to have #9 appear in a chap title. Until then though… /sits back to watch
In the next couple of weeks we'll have people bitching about it. Within two months half of the people against him will be like "I thought he was gonna join…I just don't like him". In 3 months they'll all be saying they called it.
Keep it open, he hasn't joined.
It would be weird for him to say no, but if he did, he's not joining the crew. Luffy wouldn't hunt him down, he respects Jinbe. I mean, the guy saved his life like four times, he has to listen to him.
My feelings on this somewhat differ depending on what Luffy really said, given that the translations differ in an essential way.
Nobody ever said no to Luffy's 'question' of Be my nakama!. Some have tried: Nami, Chopper, Robin and Franky to name a few. Vivi never actually said no, and the crew still considers her a nakama. So by that reasoning, I am 100% certain Jinbe will be their nakama. I am even quite certain he'll join given his circumstances, but Oda is masterful and might actually trick us in that regard.
However, if the real question is Join my crew!, then there is a decent chance Jinbe might say no. Pirate, criminal, call it what you want it… but for a former Shichibukai to join one of the Supernova crews.. that is a fairly big slap in the face of the World Government, which he worked for to protect Fishman Island.. and I can imagine that the WG might retaliate on them somehow out of spite, even if FI completely renounces the fact. Obviously, this argument is equally valid for the other question, but...
... in the end, the first question has a no-failure track record, while the second one just seems weaker as a statement. Luffy gets what he wants with the forme, or at least binds them to him. But that's just the way I see things. :)
I love Jinbe, by the way. He can be the dependable sturdy rock of the crew: old-fashioned, well-mannered and loyal to a fault due to the code he lives by. His knowledge of the New World can very well lead to him bringing pirate crews out to support Luffy... as I feel no crewmembers thus far have the strategic eye or interest in leading an armada of ships/allies. Whitebeards lot perhaps? Who knows. But besides that stuff, being an awesome fishman and a former Shichibukai, what other reason would you need to love him? :)
^ "Be my nakama" = "Join my crew" in the Japanese text. No point in differentiating between the two.
Well, I mean it's tough to differentiate between them anyway. Whether or not Luffy actually means "join" as opposed to simply "befriend", he still uses the same statement.
@Lazy:
Actually is that Jinbe narrating at the end? Fuck what I said, I hope he joins now.
Narration boxes ≠ dialogue bubbles. But either way, it's nice that the opposing debaters are almost cleared.
That's sad. I really like Jinbe's speeches. And I thought that the sun was referencing the ideal of the Sun Pirates.
It is, as well as referencing the fish/merman dream of reaching above the waters into the sunlight. Part of what makes that narration so successful.
And foreshadowing the destruction of FI?
So is the 'I can see' a mistranslation. I can't remember if the narrator ever gets that personal.
Almost, almost there.
So prior to reading some of the latest posts in this thread, I was about 60-40 on him joining (the 60% being he will). But now that has well gone up to over 80 and even 90. Considering the bond Luffy and Jinbe have formed through Impel Down and Marineford (including Jinbe's whole concept of caring for humans), now Luffy has saved his home island, and Jinbe proudly broke the law to help Luffy, everything has perfectly stacked up for him to join.
Plus something I noticed a bit ago…
!
!
The two spreads of the crews are very similar, and in both cases there's a character on them that was not yet apart of the crew that flowed with the picture perfectly.
I'm sold, I for the first genuine time hope Jinbe joins the crew.
What, it's open again? Fine, but I don't want a new thread once we hit 20,000, not for quite a while.
Alrighty, now what clip should I go with? The classic "We Are the Champions" or "Celebration"? Maybe Dora's "We Did It We Did It!" for a switch. Kermit or Chester A. Bum might work, but Quagmire could be interesting… Hmm...
Well, this should do for now:
I'm thinking of jumping off of the bandwagon now. :ninja:
I'm thinking of jumping off of the bandwagon now. :ninja:
Well, at least you won't have far to walk.
"…..but stay here protecting Weakboshi please, thanks bye"
I dunno man Jinbe's bounty is wayyy to huge and he's a former shichibukai and he might disrupt the monster trio, plus he's Fat and doesn't have a dream and and and and and Luffy asked him to join his crew after an emotional scene of donating blood.:wassat: Oda what are you up to? None of this makes sense at all it's not like he ever foreshadowed Jinbe since chapter 69.
We all know Jinbe will say no.
He´ll join. Sooner or later. I think sooner. Like next chapter. Still, I might be wrong. We will see. :D
I'm just scared Robin will try to steal his loincloth.
Jinbe will say no.
He already has a crew. And he doesn't have a dream or a reason to go to adventure, like all mugi have
Luffy just wants a second emergency food backup :ninja:
"The bonds between fishman and human begin…" What else do you need

Those damn Mugis.
"The bonds between fishman and human begin…" What else do you need
The whole situation was so beatifull story wise that Oda would have to be a big troll not to make him join, I would actually be pissed since it would personally ruin part of the scene to me.
I'm not sold till I see Franky working on those doors.
I guess it's just like with Brook, people argued him up until the very end, I remember seeing arguments until "The Eight Person."
welcome to the crew jimbe you great big blue ladies man
I have to say I'm glad I saw this thread before it happened, or else I would have been really confused why they would decide to add Jimbei of all people to the crew. It makes a lot more sense now.
but WOW was that still surprising!
I'm not sold till I see Franky working on those doors.
Dude!
AIRFLOW for next nakama! Welcome back man.
he may disagree but after some flashback that shows how he got his scar and shows some sort of dream he'll eventually accept
TABLE HAS BEEN FLIP spoiler alert GUESS WHO IS THE NEW NAKAMA!!!!! J.I.M.B.E.I FUCK YESSHSDFHOSLFIUIOFUIFASIFUOISUFS
Uhm, Luffy told Jinbe to join.
Well, whatever, who cares.
…
...
...
Oh, but wait! Luffy only called Jinbe "tomodachi" before, so that's obviously the way it's gotta stay. Sorry guyz.
Jinbei !!!!!!! Finally
I'm all for Jinbe joining. I'm sure he will be a great asset to the crew. Perhaps the role of Helmsman. :) What better way to show how varied the SHs are.
To me is clear, he will say no, but in the end he will join. Like always.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Luffy just wants a second emergency food backup :ninja:
Or that…

Edit: I will love to see the reactions of the people when they hear a former warlord joined the crew. This will be great and I know we will get it, Oda loves reaction panels.
I openly admit I was wrong.
Bonney is joining next >:(
Yeah, right, let's start discussing about the next crewm- BANG!DEAD _______
Hah. Thanks for reopening. Jinbe's in.
Although I was actually MORE certain of that before Luffy asked him, lol.
I too wholeheartedly eat my words.
In retrospect Jinbe makes perfect sense through the close of this arc. His flashback may not have centered around him, but he still played a poignant role as the person in the very middle of Otohime and Fisher Tiger's ideals, exposed to both and questioning which one was the true path to take.
Also, even though this chapter and end of this arc was pretty obviously rushed (or at least took on a much more rapid pacing), that was a beautiful ending leading to Luffy's offer/decision, thematically tying this arc together. I was against Jinbe joining initially because I felt that from a character development, crew interaction, and power-level perspective that he was unnecessary, but I definitely take that back after this chapter.
One last thing; I feel a little silly that I didn't catch until after I read thsi chap, but another hint towards Jinbe's joining can arguably be found in Databook Green. We are given early initial character designs for Jinbe, and these designs are all much more antagonistic looking than the final Jinbe, which should've pointed to Jinbe playing a very heavy ally role for Oda to ditch more potentially badass designs to give us a relatable one.

That's very big of you to say. Now that that's settled, I-

HOW DARE YOU#?>@!
j/k
Jimbe can't join, he's too big…. just like ridley.. lol
no but seriously, im pumped for jimbe, he's a fun character, im sure oda has something great planned for his backstory, besides the fisher tiger stuff

Well, this should do for now:
And someone said that Jinbe supporters wouldn't be all 'up in your face' with their victory.
I think he's in because Oda wouldn't troll us, but now I really really want him to not join just to troll us.
Shift is a golden child full of amazement, I apologize to you personally. (not trolling, I'm honestly eating my humble pie with a spiked spoon) even though this adjustment will take time for me to accept I have to admit I would much rather have him than Perona or Hancock.
Other humbleness was previously expressed by Preston is a Pirate.
In all honesty, I always wanted people with different dialects to join Luffy's crew^^. We have the proud Oretachi of Chopper, Sanji, Franky, Zoro, Usopp, and Luffy, we have the lady side of Atashi-tachi of Nami and Robin, we have the gentleman "Watashi, me wa nain desu ke do, YOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!" of Brook, and now we have the old guy "Washi ja!" of Jinbei^^. I was hoping back at the great war arc we would have the princess dialect of Hancock joining, but alas, it was not meant to be. I hope she comes back someday. It's ok if she does or does not become NN in the future.
@Superbear:
I openly admit I was wrong.
:(
so many were wrong but it was so obsious Oda designed Jimbey in a way we could reconise him from any other SH just by his shadow, that's what any mangaka need when intriducing new important character!
And for exemple for the same technical fact I knew Hancock would never have be a nakama, she was way to close to Robin // 2 girls with long black hair–impossible...
people didn't believe my character design theory back then but it was just easy and right

Let me tell ya, you ain't seen nothin' yet. What do you think I'm saving for when it's official?
