I don't think Teach knows that Ace is persuing him, or he'd be a little more on the defensive. Instead, he's focusing on making himself a name so he can become a Schichibukai. Course, we don't know his fate after his ship is destroyed at Knockback Stream, but it's safe to assume he survived.

One thing that bugs me, though… why does everyone assume D is a bad person for killing a nakama? Granted, it's something a D would never do, but we don't know any details about it, nor the situation. Perhaps Blackbeard's life was threatened, or the nakama was a threat to a great many people. Shanks seems to know something about the nakama that Teach killed, because Newgate knew what Shanks' letter was about, or thought he did.

Statements like, "For a kid with such ambition..." makes me think that Teach just has a bad rap. He's not a bad person, per-se, he just comes off as one because of his monstrous size and fearsome appearance. Roger could have been the same way. People could have feared Roger cause he was a HUGE man.

Saul is the only exception to the rule, but that's because of his appearance. Saul doesn't look intimidating, even though he IS a giant. His unusual laugh also makes him more approachable than Roger or Teach.

Perhaps we need another young D to balance it out. Someone like Luffy or Ace, but one that looks very very fearsome, like a devil child of the family.

The fact that he doesn't note that the middle initial is odd in light of the fact that he himself is a D. We have only seen a handful of D. in the storyline and all of them are important in some fashion. So it's not that common a name. They're all part of the same clan, so he ought to note that if it came as anything of a surprise.

I think he knows that Ace is coming for him. Blackbeard was a Whitebeard Pirate so he should be aware how Whitebeard handles it when his crewmates get killed. If Buggy knows that Whitebeard wonÂ´t let that go unharmed, then Teach must know it.

I think it is really just an instinct thing. Just like Luffy and Zoro instinctively knew that it wasnÂ´t "that guy" but "those guy". ThereÂ´s no doubt that they had no clue who Blackbeard was and yet they hit the bullseye with their instinct. And I think that the same was the case for Teach. His instinct was probably enough to take the correct assumption after witnessing LuffyÂ´s ambition.

I'm curious as to where you got that from. Granted, I haven't been following the discussion threads too closely lately, but this is the first I've heard of the namesakes of the weapons being actual people.

I have plenty of relatives I've never met. I think most people do. If they don't know each other, that doesn't mean they're not related. It seems rather stupid on Oda's part to have made this whle "D" thing and then completely counter it by then saying "oh no, not all of them are related, they just have the last name initial "D"."

He was defeated too easily, he didn't use the Baku Baku fruit as he could have, and he had the annoying habit of misquiping "Baka" and instead saying the japanese word for "Hippo" (Which doesn't make sense, they don't speak Japanese in the One Piece world, but whatever). It really brought down my opinion of the Arc as a whole.

Wapol, Chess, and Kuromarimo weren't a big part of the emotional storyline in that arc, unlike Arlong or Crocodile. The family dynamic between Chopper and Hiluluk and Chopper and Kureha was where the conflict really was, Wapol was there basically to facilitate that. There was never a question of whether Luffy would beat them, there were never any nailbiting moments in that respect. Wapol was simply the person who set things in motion for others to have their emotional revelations, he wasn't supposed to be a big, bad boss.

I'm not eve touching the "baka" vs "kaba" thing, since it has nothing to do with anything and is a really dumb argument. I will say, however, that no, they probably don't "really" speak Japanese in the OP world (>_>), but the comic is written in it and is therefore subject to its rules/puns, just as Star Wars is subject to the rules of English, even though they probably don't "actually" speak it.

After reading the poneglyph in Skypeia, Robin said, "Another weapon bearing the name of a God…", which means that there ARE gods named Pluto and Poseidon in One Piece.

As for the D concept, I'm not saying that they're all non-related people. I'm saying that the connection may be distant, back to the lost 100 years.

Or, if my theory is correct, all the D's are aspects of the same person (A god, maybe?):

Luffy: Determination
Saul: Dereshi (Laughter, Merriment?)
Ace: Dedication (His loyalty to Whitebeard)
Blackbeard: Darkness (His murder of a nakama, his apathetic nature)
D. Ragon: Destiny
Roger: Dreams

Who knows?

And see, my problem with Wapol and crew wasn't because of their lack of involvement in the Drum Arc, it was their connection with Drum itself. The chopper story in itself could have taken a whole different approach. Instead, it's a bit of a Gaiden in which Oda gives us the doctor that Luffy will need.

Instead, why didn't Chopper be a part of the Alabasta Arc? Wapol could have been Mr. 7 or something, with Chess or Marimo being their female partner. It would have kept the story moving forward, instead of making this side arc to pick up the doctor. Chopper could be a temperate Reindeer (Yes, there are caribou species in more temperate climates).

That's why I disliked drum the least. It's right in the middle of the Mugiwara's problems with Baroque Works, and completely seperates them from it. A Gaiden, if you will.

no it doesn't. there is a planet named venus, does that mean that venus actually walked the earth? It would be different if we had never heard of pluton or posieden in our lives, but it pretty much common knowledge that people used to worship gods. We know about zues,pluton,posiedon etc. And who's to say the ancients of OP didn't worship pluton or posieden? We saw people worship snakes so why not fake gods?

erm, you can't assume that Fire Fist, I'm sure you've heard of the Roman/Greek Gods? Pluton, more commonly known as Pluto, Greek name Hades, is the god of the underworld. Poseidon, Roman name Neptune, is the God of the sea. What would be interesting is the fact that they are still the names of Gods in One Piece.

And you are assuming that Dragon is a D here.

I can't "assume" anything, you're right. But the concept of living gods is one that's often touched upon in manga (Saiyuki, DBZ, etc.), and is not above Oda to implement in his usual creative way.

Besides, there are two types of "gods":

1. Creators. The word "God" traces back to the ancient Arameic word, Elohim. It means "Creators of this world" in English, roughly, and that is what a true god is. They have the power to create and destroy without question, the absolute authority over the way things begin and end.

2. Omnipotent beings. These are not true gods, as one would call them, but those that have risen above others to have incredible power. They control death but not life; they cannot "create" anything, other than fear or hope.

Gan Forr created hope for his people, and was considered a god. Eneru ruled as a "god" through fear.

Pluton or Poseidon, if they existed, could have been either. Creator gods to be worshipped, or simply those with omnipotent power. It's up to Oda.

But remember, Pluton and Poseidon are the names of the ancient weapons. Even if they were former omnipotent beings, we don't know how they were disposed of, if they died naturally, that is the eventual fate of the living if they weren't mortally wounded.

In my honest opinion, Skypiea was an excellent arc, but could've stood to have been shortened considerably. I found myself just wanting the arc to end already from 260 until the Norland flashback, which rekindled my interest in Skypiea.

Basically, Skypiea was a great arc, but really should've been shorter than it was, would've been much more enjoyable.

Skypiea is one of my favorites. Islands in the sky, all kinds of unique clouds, and dial shells are very fascinating to me. Eneru is my favorite villain too.

I think what people mean by that is that if you would read the chapters weekly, then Skypiea drags on a little. As I pointed out I love Skypiea, but I imagine that it would be a tough read on a weekly basis. The Water 7 chapters on the other hand work better that way.

I have to agree with you there Ivotas, Skypiea do not build up the same kind of action and emotions in every chapter as in W7.

But, still, Skypiea is one of my fav arc too.
Namely because of two reasons - Norlands flashback, which is, according to me the most heartbreaking moment in the whole serie, and maybe one of most heartbreaking moments in my whole life. Seriously.
And Ener. Which at first seems like the normal enemy. BUT, there is one big diffrence. When no other enemy until that moment have changed their fighting style when they have figured it out that Luffy have found their weakness, Ener did. And also, he is so freaking cool, have a cool and intresting fruit and a lovable style against other characters. ;)

Skypia was a great arc. I mean these things are thought of as one big story, I am sure, and then it suffers from being alotted 20 minutes per week. I watched it all in just a few days and even though the subtitles were horrid, I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was much more interesting than the Arabasta arc. Japanese can be quite difficult sometimes if they don't have things their way, I tend to find. I thought it had some of the most epic moments in One Piece.

For starters they updated the animation and offered High-Definition display. Then I think there was the Foxy arc, which I feel in some way was done for the fans as a tribute to One Piece, to show the fans that the crew still has that great spirit and character which made them fall in love with the series in the first place.

I like this arc too mainly for the beginning, the Upper Yard fight, Norland's flashback (one of the best in the series in my opinion, a lot of great twist in this one and very heartbreaking) and the final fight with Enreu (which felt extremely epic to me. Right on par with Crocs). Yeah it did drag out, we didn't need to see some of the secondary characters (i.e. some of the Shadorain warriors) have their own personal fights though I appluaded Oda for the detail and sticking with it even when some of the readership went down a little. Truly a modern day classic pirate tale.

You're right, Ivotas, I'm not disagreeing with you there.

What I'm saying is that if Pluton and Poseidon DID exist, either concept could apply to them. Robin established the fact they are considered "Gods" in the One Piece world, be them simply omnipotent people or actual gods that are worshipped; we don't know which.

If they were the former, then it's very possible that the Gorosei "killed" the gods. That's one of the reason that they're covering up the lost 100 years.

Have you ever read Saiyuki? You should, it's a fascinating manga. In it, Son Goku killed one of the Bodhisatvas (Those that have reached nirvana, basically living gods), leaving his wife widowed. She waits for him, unmoving.

Perhaps on Raftel, it's sort of the same thing. Perhaps there's a wounded god or a god's grave there, something that no government or organization would ever want to admit to having caused.

none of the side characters have enough characteristics to draw readers' emotion. and worse, the long flashback. Now, if the flashback involves a loveable character, like nami's, chopper's etc, it is not a problem. when it involves some random characters that we don't even know like nolan, it became a problem.

I'm going to Add my 2 Cents, although some of it has been said Before, but I plan to go into more Detail.
I Liked Skypiea, simply because when I got to Skypiea, it was Already over and Water 7 was already going. so I didnt have to sit and wait till he finished it, thus it Didnt Get old to me.
despite What The fans Think, I'm Actually GLAD he did it his way instead of Appeasing the fans. He stayed true to His Ideas and Plans. In Dragonball, Toriyama wanted to end it after the Freeza Arc. but The SECOND wind got around that he was gonna end it BAM, tons of mail came asking for him to not End Shounen Jump's Most popular Series at the time. so he Made the Jinzouningen Arc, and it worked, he managed to do it good. he tried to end it again and BAM more mail. so he does the Majin Boo arc (which Actually is my Favorite, because My Favorite Character Vegeta finally gets his damn character Development XD ) and Toriyama FINALLY ends it. then the Mail comes, and Toei Decides to listen to them. so then The catastrophy that Is Dragonball GT was born.
Don't Force Oda into doing something he doesnt want to. or he'll lose the Spark for it and we'll end up with One Piece GT.

Ah, Skypiea… the arc that is now second in my list. It took me a second or third re-read before I truly understood and came to love it. Don't get me wrong; I used to hate it for several reasons, all of which vanished gradually during the re-reads. (Well, I still hated Skypiea-Sopp)

The design and concept are fabulous. Oda managed to make a place so ... unbelievable, but still easily understandable. A strange logic that somehow works, Oda sticks to his new concepts well. The dial battles were cool and total bad-ass. The side characters have depth, and their design is way cool. Well, maybe not the Enforcers or Yama.

And of course, ENEL. Oh I used to hate him for being somewhat cliche-ish, but was I wrong! Such majestic design; the ingenious drums in his back, the parody ears of Buddha, the golden accessories, that swimming cap. And his powers are pure killer. His usage of power is even more creative than Crocodile's.

Also, the flashback story was among the best I've read; what can be more heartbraking than the story of an ailing friendship between two very different persons?

Despite the length, Skypiea comes full circle. Oda remains unswayed and completes the story in his own way. Thus, I find Skypiea to be truly exceptional and enjoyable.

Well skypiea is my favorite arc which soon will go to 2nd best as water 7/Enies Lobby will replace it soon. Skypiea had everything… hillarious moments... great fights and now when Im watching it animated it looks really awesome. And as people said it got kind of boring especially when Luffy fell down in the first fight with Enel and that time Oda threw in the Norland flashback which poured life into the whole arc. It was simply marvellous of Oda.
Also I think Skypiea will play an important role in the story of One Piece.
In chapter 272 Pg 3 Robin reads some ancient text saying "Focus on your heart and keep your mouth sealed! We are the ones who record the ancient past ... together with the sound of the bell of the tower" and on the same page it says "The original ancient text was taken to this city" and "This city was once at war with the enemy".
Pg 4: "The Golden City Cyandia was destroyed after fighting to protect the original ancient text".
Then later in chapter 290 Pg 9 Kalgara(sp?) says:
We are protecting the stone tablet located in the golden city. Its the will of the ancestors"

So lets add up the years. For almost 400 years Cyandia was trying to protect the tablet and then they were shot in the sky. there they fought for almost 400 years more till Luffy and crew came and freed the land. 400 + 400 = almost 800 years.

Now in chapter 395 Pg 7 Clover says:
If we assume those people were wiped out by some "enemy," it means those enemies should have survived later in history. Coincidentally enough... 800 years ago, at the end of the Lost 100 Years, was the precise birth of today's "World Government." If the enemy of those eradicated peoples is our World Government, then the "Lost 100 Years" could easily be a piece of INCONVENIENT HISTORY that the World Government needed to stamp out...!!! From the ancient writings of the few Poneglyphs we HAVE found, we have learned of the existence of a nation... One which no longer exists in any form, but still appears in those messages. An ENORMOUS KINGDOM...!!
Pg 8:
They seem to have held great power once, but the information about this kingdom has been carefully erased. As they knew of their imminent defeat by the alliance that would later be called the World Government, they carved the truth into stone, to give to the future. Those are the Poneglyphs that still exist today...!!!

So what I conclude is that after the lost 100 years one of the poneglyphs was sent to the city of cyandia (jaya) where they protercted it for 400 years and then were shot in the sky and then as we know after 400 years they got the land back. It was all clear but sneaky Oda covered these details with Norland's past and Cyandia fighting for their homeland. so later on we will see these things uncovered Im sure of it.

No your imagination isn't going wild. Oda is just really good at laying out his story.

Now what I wonder, is why was Shandora destroyed protecting the Poneglyph, but not Alabasta? Shandora was destroyed 800 years ago, right around the formation of the WG, but Alabasta has a history dating back 4000 years, so they were not destroyed. I'm sure Oda will explain it all someday.

What we want to know most of all at this point in time, is not the contents of the Poneglyphs, but their reason for existing. Why did the people of the past use stone monuments, to leave some message for the future… They carved history into unbreakable stone and spread them around the world… Is it not because their message could be destroyed on mere books and paper?! Clear proof that the people who left them had ENEMIES!!

so assuming that people of Jaya were friends with the nation which was at war and they carved the history on poneglyphs and spread them across the world. 2 in Arabasta, 1 in Shandra so that is why they were also at war trying to keep the poneglyph safe and destroyed later on because of it.

It occurred to me to check Google to see how the two words fared against each other and it actually looks like "Shandia" is the name of an area in Ecuador where some indigenous South American peoples still live, which I had no idea of. Couldn't find anything meaningful from Cyandia however.

Well, I guess thats where Oda got it from. After all the visible references to the people and the buildings to native North, Middle and South American cultures is more then clear. =)

I have to admit that at first I stopped reading one piece when I got past the Alabasta arc and waited a month or two, and then went on to Skypeia. The begining of the arc bored me a little, but when the Strawhat crew actually got to Skypeia, it got a lot more exciting. Eneru is, and will always remain one of my favorite One Piece villains, and despite the fact that Wiper and the cyandians were a little similar to Kohza and the rebels, they were still really awesome. The backstory behind the arc with Norland and Karagara is one of my favorite parts in the series, and the way the fight with Eneru ended with Luffy ringing the bell was the most dramatic end to one of Luffy's major fights so far, only closely rivaled by Luffy launching Crocodile into the sky and then suddenly it started to rain in Alabasta again. The series in general wasn't as good as Water 7 or Alabasta, but I don't think it was bad at all.

I loved Skypiea, because it seemed very well thought out, things that happened at the beginning of the arc only make since till the end of the arc. I also think when One Piece comes to an end, that this arc is going to be very important concerning the true history of One Piece.

Regarding the long flashback, I think it is a problem only if you read it on a week by week basis. I read the manga and even got the volume after the flashback, so i read everything at one go (I started late). I admit the flashback was very long when i first read it but after finishing this particular arc, I realised that the flashback is important to the story. I think it adds depth to the entire skypiea saga. Hence I think it cannot be skipped.

But I do agree that the side characters do not have enough character, therefore they are called "side characters".

I think Norlands flashback is the best so far (maybe exept Robins). And one of the best moments in the whole serie.
Norland is no random character, he is as important as for an example Cobra, the king in Alabasta.

The arc was so so for me, I quite enjoyed it for the most part, it was a nice idea and another link between luffy, roger and the true history. However it kind of dragged a bit in places and this was reading it all in one go, reading week by week I think I would have got a little bored…well at least till luffy > eneru :P

I love the Skypia arc, because it is long. At the beginning it was a little anoying because it just got longer and longer. But i love all the characters, (except Satori), aspeacily the rebels. Know it's my second favorit arc, after Water 7, because it is epic and has a fantasy feeling to it(angels, priests, a god lol), and like fanatsy very much. As for Enel his the best villain of the series, because he is invicible and only Ruffy can stop him.:laugh:

i love Skypiea. no really, i'm in love with that arc. as for the love it or hate it issue, i see it more like those Oscar-type movies, where the critics buy it and the public don't. of course it gets lagging if you read it per weekly chapters. the arc serves as one whole story and the way i see it, the plot isn't designed to be broken into chapters. the story emits much more beauty as one and when you read it as whole, you will surely love it. :D

Anyways, Skypiea was a pretty good arc. The Norland flashback was definitely the best part about it, though. Along the huge fight (Zoro VS Priest VS Dog VS Snake VS Wiper) was pretty freaking amazing, also. And the ringing of the bell, naturally.

I think Cyandia (it's correct?) will play a big role in the true history ;)

Well… to be fair, Norland, Karugara (is that how you spell his name?), and Wiper did have quite a bit of character, and development. Despite the fact that Norland and Karugara only showed up for only a few chapters, they were so well looked into that the reader could understand the workings of their friendship and how it developed, and if they weren't well developed, then that last scene in the flashback would not be one of the most memorable scenes in all of One Piece. Wiper went from arrogent rebel in my eyes to a person who really cares about his people and he's more then willing to die for them or at least end up with a bunch of shattered bones for them. By introducing Karugara into the story, we also got more information on Wiper. shrugs This is only because i love looking into character development, especially in side characters, so I'm sorry if you don't agree with me but it's just the way I see it ^_^.

Out of all arcs Skypiea is the only one that is a classic pirate story. We have:

Treasure seeking pirates

A tropic jungle

Ancient ruins with an interesting backstory

Pissed off natives

A large snake

Plenty of gold

The element of higher power

An Skull shaped island

That is classic pirate story material. True there wasnÂ´t character development as in the other arcs, but it was a awesome pirate story and IÂ´m sure Oda had lots of fun doing it. It has all the classic stuff a pirate story needs and yet it is not some boring rehash but something awesome and creative that was never seen before. SKYPIEA OWNS!!!

I've got to say, of the last three major arcs, Skypiea was my least favorite (still loved it though, don't get me wrong - it's One Piece) and I probably wouldn't have enjoyed sitting through it so I'm glad I caught up with Water 7, but I've got to say, that arc had some amazing moments. Namely, the ringing of the bell. Definintly in my top 5 favorite One Piece moments.

i don't think it's anything important. most likely enel had his workers build it so they could use mine carts and take the gold out of the golden city so he can build his ship.

Well I got a long story, I started reading the manga verison of One Piece, couple weeks after 4Kids started airing the show, well I been just started I read all the U.S. release, and junk then I begin reading Arlong, Rouge Town, on and on to Skypiea which I got to that arc last August. I'll admit Skypiea was little boring at the beginning part at Jaya. But for myself It got intersing when the Chopper was alone in the Going Merry, facing off aginist one of the Priests.

Enel was a great villian yes, but he is #5 on my list have couple other guys above him. Skypiea in my opinion started alot of foreshadowing to the current events with Usopp remaking the Climatact, The Going Merry falling apart, and some bits about The Plutoian powers. Well I'll say my favorite moments of Skypiea were when Luffy chargeing up to the Maixem to save Nami from Enel with Sanji, and Usopp came out of nowhere, and Zoro,and Chopper, The Sky Knight Vs.The Giant Sanke Vs. The Giant Dog Vs Wiper Vs. The Priests. Skypiea is a great storyline, since it's in my top 5 story arcs in One Piece.

Skypiea is actually a good arc aside from its long story.. It was quite boring at first like when luffy, sanji and ussop fought the ball guy.. hatori was it!? i forgot.. but things really fired up when Eneru predicted the survivors.. 5 survivors… I would've guessed that sumthing as unpredictable as that is a piece of cake for ODA... but i just couldn't believe it he did that...

Still my best arc is W7.. its really emotional.. and the 2nd goes to Alabasta.. this arc really DID me..
