Oooooh forgot to mention.
According to THokenshitsu no Shinigami -> End in #29
Sengoku Armors -> End soon (looks like already decided)In other words, Bleach is, effectively, bottom THREE.
-
Hokenshitsu no Shinigami -> End in #29
In the distance, a blood curdling scream of rage at the heavens is heard
-
This ranking is so fucking awesome, Beel above Naruto and Bleach plummeting in the depth further. It's simply magnificent.
-
Just woke up and I come into this thread to see bleach in the bottom five… what a fantastic start to the day. Kubo should be ashamed to be considered one of the big three.
-
Yeah, Bleach has really taken a nosedive and end up in the bottom 5, it will take more than that for it to finally be cancelled though. Too bad for HnS to be cancelled, but to be honest looking at its position it's a long time coming, I just hope the writer managed to wrap up the series satisfyingly and will be able to make something better in the future. One thing though, I don't remember ever seeing Saiki ESP before, is this a new series or a one-shot? Because usually there's a bit more fanfare (by color pages or some such) for something new.
-
Bleach has crossed to the other side.

It's a one shot.

I hope this'll cause Kubo Tite to sober up.
Bleach was good until the end of the Soul Society Arc. Then it began repeating the same scheme - 'Okay, you're too weak to face him, but you have some amazing, uncharted power within you. And we're going to get you learn how to use that power.'
-
Yes Beelzebub is number 2.
lol at Bleach's place

Bleach never was really good and always had tons of flaws because it's authors "just felt like doing something".
Read some incredible analyzes about Bleach's flaws here, there's really a lot: http://theappliedlogic.blogspot.com/ -
Man this thread always becomes a Bleach discussion. Kind of annoying. It's neat to see advertisement for Applied Logic though lol.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bleach has been somewhere between mediocre to average at the beginning, peaked during the great Grand Fisher arc, and then went downhill during Soul Society and has been continually going downhill since.
Honestly I'd eventually like to do an article at Applied Logic on why the Grand Fisher arc was good, but I'll get to that much later someday.
-
Holy freakin cow, Bleach isn't even on the list any more. Kubo has got to step up his game man, if he really does want the series to last 10 years.

so how does cancellation work? are they given some slip a paper, or taken to a room and privately told to wrap up their story in X amount of weeks? or are they told to get the hell out?

I believe the editor lets the author know how many weeks they'll have.
As funny as this all is, Bleach isn't really in danger of being canceled as long the volumes sell, and they do.

goddammit. oh well. i guess it makes sense, having been around for awhile and all.
has there ever been a series that lasted 10+ years, and then just gets cancelled all of a sudden, due to lack of sales, and decreasing interest, there has to be some, right?
-

Shonen jump series that have lasted more than 10 years (and aren't still running) are pretty rare. prince of tennis, rokudenashi blues, dragon ball… I can't think of any others off the top of my head. Dragonball was always popular. Prince of Tennis ran to its inevitable conclusion. Rokudenashi Blues idk.
so no, weekly jump long runners don't just suddenly drop like this. Assuming the trend continues, Bleach will loiter around the bottom half of the magazine for at least another year. The volume sales will be strong enough, and it will be such a legacy series that it will hang on until some editor finally starts dropping hints that Kubo should think of how to end his series. More likely, however, is that hitsugaya will show up, and Bleach will rise once again.

Incomplete list of manga over 30 volumes
It could be hard to go and look for every one of their rankings, (at least WSJ series), but it could give some perspective if they are ever going to put the dog out of it's missery.
-
Haha Bleach we knew thee well. Shame it won't get canceled.
-
Shaman King ran for 6 years, and was decently popular half-way through, but towards the end of its run it was in the bottom five constantly, and led to its cancellation.
It was really abrupt, without any real time for conclusion. -
-
I've actually found a good, japanese site once at 2ch forums. It was the complete Jump ToC list from the last decade - every series had places put down in the chart.
It was easy to look on this chart and see when certain series started, when ended and when mangakas took breaks, to play Dragon Quest, for example. >_>
God, if I only knew what the site was called, though… -
^Voila

It's similiar, but it's not exactly the same site I was talking about. I guess the other one was much clearer and handier.

Is this it?
-
Yeah, you got it right, Khamolen. Thanks.
The only thing I could remember was that the guy had '-man' in his nickname.Unfortunately, though, it appears that his page has some encoding problems.
I guess I'll have to go with Hamada's.Anyways, what I wanted to do was to create the only right popularity list based on Hamada's ToCs, so that we could see which series were popular and which series were just more, on a weekly basis.
-
Ao no Exorcist is on Jump Square, not Weekly Shounen Jump.
It's successful to the point that it's never been in the latter half of the magazine ever since it started serialization. So, does Jump Square follow the same TOC ranking systems as Weekly Shounen Jump?
As funny as this all is, Bleach isn't really in danger of being canceled as long the volumes sell, and they do.
A series that's in the low rankings won't get canceled as long as it's volumes sell, right? Man, that makes me wish that Oumagadoki Zoo was still serializing because I read that it's volume sales were doing good (which gave some chapters 23pgs in celebration). Does anybody know where I can find data on # of volumes sold?
-
Well Bleach is kind of a legacy series. So it's a little harder to cancel something that's been around since like 2001 than say Oumagadoki Zoo.
Really it has to stay in the bottom 5 for a long time before cancellation is even possible. And even that's no gurantee as long as the volumes still sell.

First infos about the two new mangas:

-
^Supposedly, it is about a boy and a girl who want to become astronauts.

Where does this information come from?
The only info i found, is a One Shot by Miyokawa Masaru from 2008 with the name Foo Fighter Fuji where the main charakter is hit by a star and transforms into a spaceship, really wierd stuff. Maybe this manga is based on the One Shot.

Hm, I think I might try to check out Stars, if any scan group does pick it up.
I did not know Pretty Face was a Jump series. Go figure.
-
So, I just got back on after an internet outage and I find out Bleach landed in the bottom 5. This is indeed a happy day
-
Hmmm yeah Stars sounds interresting lets see if its something good. Hahahaha being a astronaut is one of those stupid dreams I had as a kid.
-
There's an excellent series about becoming an astronaut called "Uchuu kyodai" (Space Brothers). Uses real organization names like Nasa and Jaxa. If there's scanlation of it I highly recommend it. Curently on going.

Yeah, I like Kanou's works too, glad that he will make his return. Poor guy has had his work cancelled twice, hopefully third time's the charm and he manage to use his break well and is now able to produce and even better series that won't be cancelled until it ends properly. Please don't let me down, those who determine the rankings.
Anyway, I read in ANN that it's supposed to be a romantic comedy, anyone else have any info of what it's about? Or at least, able to translate the title?
-
We'll see what's going to come with these two series. Odds are they're going to follow Sengoku Armors' path. I'd love to see what Takeuchi and Miyokawa have to offer - they're debutantes, they might give us something creative they've come up with it to read. On the other hand I don't expect much from Kanou since he's coming with a romantic comedy and series of this genre haven't done really good in the past - Ane-Doki, Lock-On, just to name the latest.
-
However we should also note that romantic comedies can be decent jump series, for example ichigo 100%
-
Inb4 the romantic comedy ends up as an ecchi manga.

Lots of good manga aren't getting the spotlight their deserve and don't get scanlated :(
I've been wanting to read Thermae Romae ever since you recommended it. -
Wait there were romantic comedies in Jump that weren't ecchi too?
-
Wait there were romantic comedies in Jump that weren't ecchi too?
inorite?
and Mx0 had quite a bit of ecchi in it, so I can't say I'm surprised he's doing a rom-com-ecchi manga. Hope it is one of the rare good ones?
-
I hope to god that Stars is better than Pretty Face. Never read MX0 though :/
-
^Stars isn't the Kanou manga. His is Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa (the romantic-comedy).
