Bleach is a fashion manga, so of course the guys can't let their hair look bad or it'd distract from showing off Kubo's clothing line.
And on a serious sidenote: that Kenpachi short was one of my favorites. Squad 11 needs their own series… They have more humor and actual coolness than the rest of Bleach's cast, even if, truth be told, that isn't saying much. -

Ah, a black people discussion. I love these, maybe I'm a horrible person but I love talking about black people (or really race in general). You just have to remember that at the end of the day, everyone is a person, no matter how differently we all look. But anyway, you guys are forgetting Gedatsu from Skypeia, I'm pretty sure he was black. And Aokiji looks pretty black to me, even though I know he's supposed to be based off a Japanese actor. And don't anyone diss the Raikage and Killer Bee, those guys are freakin awesome. I mean, they beat the shit out of Sasuke, that automatically makes them win. Wait should we really be having this discussion, it seems whenever we start talking about black people and why One Piece doesn't really have any, we go off on a major tangent. From talking about fashion to black people? OK. Actually I think Daz has a more Middle Eastern look. The anime doesn't count for anything. Mr. 5 is clearly black and Brandnew as well. They look like they could be relatives as a matter of fact. My friend was like "Aokiji is black" and I gave him a strange look and he goes "Dude, look at his lips. He's black." and now I'm kind of seeing it. There was that black guy from buggy's crew but then again that was the anime and we've never seen a Oda-colored version of that guy (as far as I know). Kuma could be black. Miss Merry Christmas.. Kuromarimo… Oh and that lady from Drum who Usopp mistook for a hiking bear.
The reason that there aren't a whole lot of black people could be explained by the fact that it's more expensive to ink. I had this conversation with my mom who is herself Japanese. Who knows? I think OP has got a fair amount of black people though. More than can be said for Bleach or Naruto. And while we're on this tangent, Killer Bee won my love instantly for pwning sasuke's ugly ass. I stopped reading Naruto when Pein magically revives everyone, but when I heard about Killer Bee I just had to see that panel and it was glorious. :wub:

Lightning Country/Kumo just turned out so bizarre considering how it was prior to the revelation of the Raikage and B. Until them, all we had was that they wanted Hinata and lead to Neji's death…and Yugito (who thinking about it later was more semi-Latina according to some). To think they were this bizarre amalgamation of American stereotypes yet kick more butt than the Leaf Village seems almost insane but glorious and probably was one of the few shots of the arm that prevents Naruto from being a complete and total write-off at this point.

The reality is there aren't a lot of black ppl in manga. A lot of times due to location. After you get past genre they are all a bunch of white looking characters with Asian names. Only a few mangaka "bother" to include black ppl let alone represent other ethnicities (unless it has to do with the location or theme of any given arc) unless it's integral to include them.
The whole is ______ black usually is just a joke.

His skin is also much lighter than in the anime. It doesn't help that his hair is colored completely black in the manga (although the manga is black in white, but Kuma's hair isn't even dark brown it's a fairly light shade). So if anyone thinks Kuma's hair is black, look at Choperman's sig and you'll realize the anime doesn't always get colors right.
Although it's worth mentioning that iirc when Kuma was first shown in color he actually had an orange shirt and a green hat. Yeah, I would say the colors for his costume in the anime looked a lot better, and apparently Oda thought so too, because he changed the shirt and hat's color. He kept the hair brown though.

Shonen should never be boring, especially when it's about a guy who goes around killing demons with a giant sword and all of his allies have swords that grant them incredible power.
