This is the current plan of action followed by an explanation of the state of the rods.
1.Cool the fuel rods.
2. By cooling fuel rods lower the Sv levels of the site allowing them to…
3. Clear wreckage.
...4. Attach the power cable.
5. Restore plant power and pump in water where possible further ensuring cooling.
up until this is what has been reported by govt., the following is a step they will need to take
6. Begin large-scale construction on site to ensure continued water coverage. The plant is useless but the rods must now be kept in a cooled state long-term.
We've all heard about the fuel rods and cooling them. How long will that continue? It's something that unfortunately must continue indefinitely. At least probably within our lifetime. This has been stepped up a level beyond Three Mile and that's because the rods, in being exposed, heated up and must now be kept cool. The difference with Three Mile is that the rods did not heat up to Fukushima's rods extent in the first place and being covered by layers upon layers of concrete keeps them 'controlled'. If the plant were an operatable state this would not be an issue but as a result of the blessing/curse hydrogen gas exlosions, 1 and 3 are not in very good states and will require construction, and to a lesser extent 4.
''Chernobyl-chan'' indeed…

That's a nice way of explaining the Nuclear situation. God bless the doctors working hard to cool down Nuclear Boy.

i love you for posting this
I've always been a bit weirded out by how poo jokes are a staple of young children's programs in Japan but using it in this way makes total and complete sense.
I am sorry, but Chernobyl-chan's diarrhea all over the classroom was hilarious. I hate how insenstive laughing at it is but that analogy was just priceless.
my only question is, why isn't it pink? XD
That video is more informative than the media here in the US.

this actually made me smile
That video is more informative than the media here in the US.
Which is quite sad, really.
A cartoon about feces is more informational than the sensationalist shit (pun intended) on the media.

Thanks for posting it, Rene. Its enjoyable and very informative. I'm amazed how Japan keep up these cheerful way of informing people about the situation. This I think somehow eased the worries of some Japanese people.
Well, I don't know if this was posted yet, but according to their respective agencies, The Entire Straw Hat Pirate crew's Voice Actors and Actresses are confirmed to be Ok, except for Yuriko Yamaguchi, Kazuki Yao, and Cho (Robin, Franky, Brook respectively)
Wow… that cartoon was really informative... a lot more than what I get from Canadian news lol. And im glad that their trying to inform the children in a child friendly way, which would make them more hopeful, rather than worry and panic.
Blacked out at work today. Obviously pales in comparison to what else is going down, but seeing it happen around you is a good reminder of what's going on.
And yeah, Facebook and poop videos are trumping a lot of media outlets.
That video… amazing.
Anyways, I have good news!! I think. My mom read a photographed list of people that got put out which states the names of survivors. My grandma apparently shares the same first and last name with more than one person, but there was a single person on that list that matches... And the age of person is ??? (Keep in mind how old she is). This could indicate a couple different things, though it seems pointless to ponder about it. There's no photo, so we can't be certain if this person is indeed grandma, but it helps set my mind a little more at ease. Given the situation, this is probably the best hope we have.

I hope they are okay…
That video was interesting, to say the least.
Just a general heads-up: I posted a spreadsheet of CONFIRMED survivors (seiyuus, etc) on the first post of the thread. I figure you guys haven't seen it yet considering you've wanted up-to-date info on things far more important, but it's there should you want to check.
It's constantly growing and being contributed to, so you can check there for the latest updates on most everyone. If you don't see a particular name, cross-check the agency the person you're looking for is with.
As for that video… It gave me a smile. Kinda makes you feel like everything's gonna be okay in the end.
EDIT: Marimo, that's fantastic news!! I'm hoping for the best! :-)

Good news for you, even if it's not confirmed. I wish you the best.
Ok, and now Cho is ok.
Only Yao and Yuriko Yamaguchi are unaccounted for!
They are Robin and Franky! As Straw Hats, they can survive through anything!
Wow, great video –
never thought I'd be saying that about radioactive poop ... wish the video had been around during three mile island. I was a little kid then, and it really spooked me. A video like this would have been oddly reassuring.
and piratemarimo, that's excellent news! Keep your hope. Sounds like the answer you've been searching for is almost here.
That video is fantastic. Period.
However, it is missing a very important piece of information, specifically when it comes to the 'diaper'. So long as I'm understanding the analogy correctly the diaper refers to the double-layered pressure and nuclear chambers. The analogy holds up there.
However…
Something you've seen me mention over the past few days are the used fuel rod pools. Rods used over the past years have been stored there and they are exposed. They are the most dangerous at this point what are responsible for most of the problems.
I don't know who was responsible but that was a fact we did not even know about the first few days and it just suddenly popped up on the news but since everyone was using such technical terms to begin with, it seems not many people took note.
Other than that the analogy holds.

@Mr.:
Pas de problème. L'anglais est très difficile, alors je comprends votre situation.
Je suis l'aide d'un traducteur, aussi (espagnol vers le français), Mais je suis un anglophone. And to answer your question, mdmartin, the nuclear reactor was already technically "Shut down" by the earthquake, but that also means that the system used to make sure that the fuel cells are isolated and cool are shut down as well. So I don't think that would work.
Merci à vous de me comprendre, mais il est vrai qu'il vaudrais mieux que je n'écrive pas du tout, car je n'ai pas envie que les gens croient que je me fiche du Japon alors que ce n'ai pas le cas

Thank you for the link !
Today it should restore the electricity to cold stations, I hope that that is going to work.

Yuuki Masami is a pretty big name to my generation.
He is most well known for Patlabor, but also ultimate cyborg R, Birdy the Mighty, and Jajauma Grooming Up.
He also ran a column manga strip in Newtype for what seemed like decades.

Could you post what they said about Anime Fans Give Back to Japan exactly?
Anime Fans Give Back to Japan also being mentioned on AintItCool, along with a few others. Ya'll are doing good work.

Holy Shit….I have never seen Robby without his signature wolf avatar.
Also, it's really cool to see the podcasts and everything getting so much notice.

Nice user comments on the bottom.
All sarcasm aside, it's nice to see news of this is spreading.

I wouldn't miss it.
Plus, I know you guys are doing this 24 hour marathon, you guys probably won't need it, but since I used to be on the "Team" so to speak, if you guys need any extra hands on deck, just let me know.
Again, you probably won't need the extra, but if I could help out in any way, you have my AIM.
I just feel like I should be doing more than just donating… ya know?
Personally, I feel just showing up for as long as you can and showing support is more than enough. I myself plan to be there for the entire 24 hours, unless something pops up that prevents me from doing so.
i'm gonna be busy saterday night and all sunday. T_T I will try to listen where I can. my friend who is financially strapped donated $15 to japan. I thought that was really awesome.
I'm spreading the link to the podcast's marathon show as wide as I can. My forum and the places I have even a little bit of clout have got the link now.
sighs Won't be able to be on it too much. My sister's having a wedding tomorrow, which will be out of town, and then on Sunday I have a basketball game that I just can't possibly miss going to.
But I will try to get on when I can.
Auntie Beeb is reporting that they are close to restoring power to the power plant. Says they are doing 1-2 first. Then 5-6. Then 3-4 tomorrow.
Now they are saying some Milk and Spinach is contaminated too.
