I thought the tsunami headed for Hawaii hit hours ago?
9.0 earthquake hits Japan

@mdmartin101:
OK, I'm disgusted now. Pearl Harbor is trending on Twitter, and the top tweet for it was someone saying "Hey Japan, google 'Pearl Harbor' Death toll".
Seriously America?
Do these people need a history lesson? Have they forgotten that America dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan at the end of World War II?

that´s how it goes. americans love themselves too much and have no mercy on you when shit happens on you that nobody could control. but when shit happens on them it´s all.
Look at me! this is horrible, sympathize with me. i have done nothing to deserve this.
only when it affects them. you´ll see them stopping with jokes and offer moral support.
i even saw someone making a kanye west joke.
it went something along the lines of this
_
Yo Japan. I'm really happy for you and imma let you finish, but Haiti had one of the best earthquakes of all time, OF ALL TIME!_
ugh
Apparently, I heard a writer for Family Guy started the trend or something. I always did say Family Guy's writers were pretty horrible lately, and now I can say one of them is terrible at both his job and life.
Edit: That's what I've heard from Twitter posts anyway.

If I see anymore of these tasteless posts I'm going to just start handing out thread bans, because it's easier than simply deleting posts. You guys should know better this late in the thread.

Why are you grouping every American together for the idiocy of a few individuals? You're simply putting Americans in a general perspective and stereotype over some twitter trend and a few FB posts while ignoring all the wishes, condolences, and heart felt sympathy many Americans are expressing right now. Aid and money all being sent from America and many other countries shows we're not so in love with ourselves and "have no mercy when shit happens".
Edit: Moving on then, I hope my old pen pal in Japan and her family are safe. I haven't written to her in a while but I think I'll remedy that.

Apparently, these are no after-shocks but 2 new major earthquakes with different epi centers, one in Nagano (northwestern part of Honshu) and one in eastern Japan (around Ibaraki Prefecture). Because of that, there is also a Tsunami warning for every coastal region in Japan.
Can't believe this is still ongoing…
I'm so fucking scared right now. My dad's ship (he's a seafarer) is incoming to Japan today. We haven't heard any news about him because we can't contact their agency since yesterday, and now this…
I don't know if I can even sleep tonight...

That's bothersome. Hope he'll be fine.

Hey don't lump all of us together with some jackass. Every country has idiots you know. So one random idiot does not represent every or even close to the vast majority of americans.

Well, they have a person finder to try and find people's status, but I doubt it'll actually be of any help in this case. I hope your dad turns out alright.

is greg and oda ok?

Sick_Fool, do you know which port his ship was due to arrive at? And the estimated arrival time? What sort of boat he was on? You may be able to find out information from the port if not from the agency. I'll be glad to help you with that if I can.
Without that info, I wasn't able to find much online – but I did find one article on CNN about cruise ships that said: "experts say the open seas are the best place to be if you're on a ship in a tsunami-threatened region."
So here's hoping that your father's boat didn't attempt to go to port, or if it did, that it opted for a more protected area.
Here's the cruise ship article:

Oda and Greg are okay and that's all that matters. =) =) =)
Shut up.

You're not helping.

Rather than asking here every few posts, anyone who wonders about the current situation of an artist, creator, etc. can follow this list as it keeps getting updated frequently as they get news from them.
From some of the tweets I could understand, there's still a connection problem but the ones who can connect try to inform people of their situation.
is greg and oda ok?
Greg has posted here, it's around the first pages. Thankfully they seem to be ok.

First post edited. No excuses now.
And sending some good vibes your way Sick_Fool. Can't imagine how nervewracking that must be for you.
-
Yes ma'am. :(
-
What happened to Japan in World War II and what they did is completely irrelevant to this disaster. This isn't the 20th century anymore!
That said, I'm glad to hear that the nuclear facility is back under control. Hope to see more improvements from the fallout of this disaster.
-
Oh wow that's terrible. I saw this in school and didn't think it would get this bad, I thought it just hit the coastlines..
I hope everyone who is effected will be ok.
-
Looks like another reactor of the Fukushima power plant has started having problems. Something seems to be off about the cooling system but the situation doesn't seem as dire as it was with Fukushima 1. Hopefully they can fix it soon.
-
Jesus, this is just catastrophic. I hope Japan, Hawaii, California, and whatever country affected by earthquake and tidal wave are recovering safely. Godspeed.
And I guess "shut up" is the new catchphrase of this thread.
-
Regardless of Japan's past mistakes such as Nanjing or Pearl Harbor, those ignorant, foolish and downright cruel bastards shouldn't justify this as consequences for those mistakes. That's just awful.
My prayers for Japan.

For those interested Save the Children organization is taking donations now for "the Japan Earthquake Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund to support Save the Children's relief efforts and responses to children's ongoing and urgent needs."
And I don't know how recent is this or not but TDW just posted it:
2011 Sendai Earthquake: Extent of devastation remains unclear as day breaks in Japan; radiation levels inside damaged nuclear plant 1,000 times above normal, state of emergency declared at second plant; one missing after tsunami sweeps five wave watchers to sea in Crescent City, CA; earthquake shifted Japanese coast, Earth’s axis;
People following the news may want to take a look at those links.
Also seems like the entire Japan coast shifted 2.4 metres.

Oh wow that's terrible. I saw this in school and didn't think it would get this bad, I thought it just hit the coastlines..
Honestly, it mostly did.
The tremendous disaster you're seeing on TV is mostly the north-east coast line, Touhoku area.
Majority of Japan is not nearly as affected. (Although earthquake of this magnitude is no joke, and caused a huge mess all over honshu isle)I think a lot of people don't realize how big Japan is.
Thankfully, I don't think the overall damage of this quake is going to be anywhere near the Great Earthquake of Hanshin back in 95.
That thing hit smack middle of extremely populated area, and not a disaster from the seas like this one.
I was in Osaka helping the relief effort shortly after the 95 quake, and it was a mess. -
I'm still worried about the rest of my family and their well-being for having been so close, their homes and life particularly, but I can't help but feel also an incredible amount of pain for everyone involved in this generally.
Maybe it's because of my own investment, but the nuclear plants, the aftershocks, everything about the earthquakes is just very worrisome.
Going to try to think positively.
-
This is just gonna be one of those incidents with everybody on the edge of their seats for the next few days. I've been drifting in and out from the news, but hopefully people are getting help.
-
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but:
This may be useful for those of you still looking for information on people you know that may be affected.

May I ask how you got involved with that? Was it through a specific organization? People on my school's anon message board are already talking about organizing a volunteer-based relief team to send over during the upcoming spring break, but I'd have no idea where to even begin.

I do wish for everyone to be safe. Even though I don't know them personally, I do worry about them. I send my sympathy to all citizens and I hope that there families and friends that they are worried about are all ok.

My friend is flipping out over a friend she's trying to reach in Hokkaido.
Does anybody know what it's like out there? It could be that he's just one of the millions without power, but if there's anyone who has a bit more to give, it'd really give her some peace of mind.
-
Just finally found out that some of my friends in Tokyo and other areas are ok, still waiting on news from others. My in-laws are fine, not in an affected area. Good God, this is horrific. Waiting still for news from my own parents and bothers from So Cal, tho I assume they are fine.

I was in Osaka helping the relief effort shortly after the 95 quake, and it was a mess. That's good news to hear. It's at the least a small comfort to know that that the majority of Japan is rather unaffected/not a complete mess. I pray for the lives of all Japanese Citizens: Mangaka, VA, & Normal Individuals alike.
But DAMN does the arrogance and stupidity of us Americans piss me off sometimes. I was watching ABC7 report on the quake, and also on the affect the after waves had on a Santa Cruz Harbor. There were small waves that were really moving and pushing the harbor boats against each other, but honestly nothing more than that. And one guy had THE BALLS to say that it hit them pretty hard. MotherFucker. He's calling that hitting hard? does he have even the slightest idea what the citizens of Japan are going through right now, how much they're suffering without homes or power? How much they fear for the lives and safety of their Loved Ones? Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
Anyways, I do have some news to report for us living in the states:
If anyone has AT&T U-Verse TV, they decided to broadcast/unlock Japan TV, the National Japanese News Station for Free because of this horrible incident. It's on Channel 3680 for anyone who wants to watch and follow the unfolding situation in Japan.
Oh, and I also decided to donate this week's grocery budget to the Red Cross instead. I feel for them so much right now, and if they can get together and pull through an incident like this, then I can certainly go a week without groceries. It's not much (only $100), and I wish I had the finance to donate more, but every little bit helps and they need it more than I do right now.

For all those who keep paranoidly asking about Oda, this just turned up on People Finder. So shut it
**ふと気になったんで、ワンピース作者、尾田栄一郎氏にメールしてみた。3分ぐらいで「大丈夫でーす」と返事がきた。日本を元気にできる男が無事で良かった!

Dayum. You're a good guy.
I just hope I can contribute my time/labor somehow… -
Donated 10 bucks, but wish I could donate more. Thing about being 15 is….can't contribute to these things without a job....or money. I really just wanna know the money I worked for would be helping someone out, and it sucks I can't give more then $10 for now.

because they said other places would get hit by the tsunami did that happen?also where are you all donating to?
