I really wanna know why there is a sky and clouds down there. It reminds me of when the Strawhats were inside of Laboon!
Chapter 608: "Paradise Under the Sea" Discussion
-
-
I have mixed feelings about this chapter.
On one hand I like it, like the concept Oda created
1. with the double layer bubble
2. coated roads
3. Mermaid living separated from fishmen
4. water in the mermaid house
5. incredibly sexy looking Mermaids
6. Neptun's Army
7….On the other hand the following bothered me
1. somewhat short chapter (perhaps because quite some panels were taken by the " we are being flushed into the sea by the streams and bubble noises"
2. I will agree with some who have said it. That SHs being separated is a bit annoying especially since they were just separated for two years than they follow a spell of another short separation as Luffy Zoro and Sanji got "lost" and you know they will have to find each other again
3. That last line: Bring him here. Idk what it is but it bothers me.Perhaps it is the fact that Luffy ain't some random punk anymore, not to mention he has his own crew to back him up, so to just casually say bring him (I will sit here and wait as you do) kind of implies that he is confident his subordinates are more than enough to handle this guy and followed with the thought that I assume it will indeed happen (Luffy will be brought to him) which further on complicates things, where perhaps I expected things won't be so complicated.
I mean sure I expected troubles to present themselves but have also expected or hoped Luffy will, at least untill the NW, be able to brush it off and in that sense display that he is now indeed top tier Material. However, the vibe that I am getting from the recent chapters seems to suggest I may be terribly wrong.
So those are my two cents for now, hopefully we can get some discussion going regarding all those things and more
-
This is fantastic! I really love exploring the worlds Oda creates. I never anticipated such a design. Oda definitely went above and beyond to forego most clichés and make a pretty unique entity among underwater dominions. I do hope we get an explanation for the atmosphere and light. Since people have already started addressing it, though, in-story, I'm sure we'll get just that.
-
Sanji's interactions with the mermaid had me in tears. I still don't like the fact that the crew is separated. That's really fucking lame Oda. Where's the ship ? How are they going to recoat it ? Who's going to protect the ship ? What is neptune's army ?
-
I'm totally high right now.
-
What an adventure!
-
Caribou, Noah, the flying dutchman, jenbei!
So much epicness just waiting to happen.
Though will this be long like water 7 or short like little garden and the flying dutchman will the giant goldfish.
-
The Strawhats split up in every single arc. It gives more room to tell the story in separate locations in the same setting. It's nothing like their 2 year separation.
-
A really nice subversion of the trope by Sanji.
I wonder what kind of shark Nova is.As for the Neptune Army:
"I greet you from the deeps…"Still slow going, but atleast now the setting of the arc is clear. Fishmen Island is in a civil war or at the very least in the middle of a struggle for dominance. NFP vs NA. So far the NFP seem to be the bad guys, but perhaps Hammond just was a little overeager and misguided.
-
Well Sanji had a good run. We may get 2 new nakamas this arc. The ship is going to need another chef since Sanji's dream has been achieved by finding All Blue.
-

What's with the hate over separation? What do we lose from them being separated?
This gives the other five an opportunity to explore a different part of the island.
The crew split up all the time in the story way before the time skip occurred.
And it's not like when the 9 of them are together they all interact with every other Strawhat. Having them in smaller groups is no different than having them right next to each other and only hanging out with certain people.
Any one else worried more about the going sunny than the rest of the crew?
The Sunny is probably with the rest of the crew. It's the coating that I'm worried about. They need find someone that's able to redo the coating.

Thx for the chapter to everyone involved.
-
im thinkin this noah fishman spot is the other large bubble below the bubble there in now
the one behind the mangrove root -
Kinda short chapter, but hell those small mermaids were hella cute!
-
Is it just me or does the captain of the NFP look like a fishman shiliew?

Thing is though One Piece isn't as weak as you think. Luffy doesn't get to leave the dimensions of touchable just by getting famous. He will most likely have to face alot of opponents able to give him hell.
-
Nice chap, FI looks really big and with plenty of interesting things.
Kayme is really hot…and so are the mermaids __________
Sanji LOL he is the man! :D He's crying more than when he left Baratie...
A new "Arlong" crew. I wonder who's that shadow. Maybe his brother...and where is Jimbe? -
Anyone notice female Usopp in the mermaid spread? She looks so much like Oda's version of female Usopp!
-
So people, I'm lost in the Jump releases calendar, and OP breaks, so… There will be a WSJ issue next week? And I think that Aohige said something about an OP break coming up soon, when will this happen?
-
So fast, finally i can avoid the spoilers and & receive the surprise.
Thank you. :V -
lmao @ "This is All Bluuuuuuue!"
Good, funny chapter, felt too short though.
Don't know what's the reason to hate the "separation" thing, it was always like this. -
LOL at people complaining about SH being separated. I mean doesn't that happen like….in every single arc since Alabasta??
-
Is FI realy All Blue? also oda never lets us down. i hope chopper has a few blood bags ready for sanji.
-
nice and early
-
I hope no one tries to pop the bubble.
Sanji seems to be getting better which is good.
-
One I'd like to point out that I'd like for people to realize that there's a difference between splitting up and being separated.
I dislike the separation because we've already gone 2 years with out the SHP being all together and they're already separated again. It would of been nice for them all to meet up with keimi and the split up and do there own thing but no they have to get separated because of the way the entered FI. w/e.
-
@ultimateclima:
And looks like Fishman Island is really segregated. Fishpeople, Merpeople, and rich people all seem to live in different areas.
Great chapter.
You mean kind of like the real world?

There's a break next week, but the next issue tends to leak early so there's probably going to be a chapter next week. The thing is, the next issue is also a Double issue, so there's supposed to be a break after that jump comes out.
So it's probably going to be a chapter next week, and then a two week break with the next chapter coming out the third week.

Luffy and co. aren't actively searching for them. I'm betting the other group will do the same thing, so it's basically them splitting up without them deciding to split up.
You mean kind of like the real world?
Yeah. It's just interesting to point out that "Paradise" is segregated like the real world.
-
A great chapter, every page was a win!
I enjoy being an OP fan! -
i'm kind of loving the blatant parallels between skypiea and this arc so far. lol we have camie pretty much fulfilling the role Conis had, and the term 'illegal entry' was thrown around…and now Sanji, Luffy, and Usopp are grouped up together again lol. great chapter!
-
Jump change their logo from Pirate to Ninja? They don't have their fingers at the pulse of the time.
-
This post is deleted!
-
In this arc i think Sanji is going to discover something about the All Blue.
-
In this arc i think Sanji is going to discover something about the All Blue.
that would be fantastic! and long-awaited
-
So how long has Jump had the pirate logo? Do they change it often or something?
-
Yesssssssssssssssssss
-
Thing is though One Piece isn't as weak as you think. Luffy doesn't get to leave the dimensions of touchable just by getting famous. He will most likely have to face alot of opponents able to give him hell.
Not that many, I think. This should be an "easy" arc in comparison. The SH will get ample opportunity to show off their abilities, but I think they'll be equal or perhaps even superior to any opponents they face from the get-go. Most of the difficulties they face will be due to handicaps or the opponents using trickery and the like.
Of course that doesn't mean the enemies will be fodder, but they won't be overwhelming obstacles like the two Shichibukai were. Tough but doable, kinda like the Arlong Pirates were. I just don't think that after the two year skip the SH will be outmatched initially as they were in some of the previous arcs. Oda has to have something he can built up on.
-
(sees all the mermaids, nosebleeds until he realizes another Kokoro could exist)
Great chapter…sort of weird with all that's going on but it sort of seems like we're getting mermaids and fishmen here. Though...I sort of hope we don't get "Arlong redux" with whomever is in Noah.
-
It would've been easier to enter FI if Caimie had picked them up from SA but meh awesome chapter _
-
Lol Sanji is about to get it in. The mermaids are down they looking for alcohol already!!
-
So how long has Jump had the pirate logo? Do they change it often or something?
As far as i know they never changed it before.
Btw, the chapter when Sanji fell on Kamabakka was named "Hell". Now we get "Paradise". Nice parallel.
-
Great chapter :D

I am all aware of that, however I have hoped him "struggling" will be reserved for NW and here he will be finally able to show how much he and his crew have grown. (after all there were 9 other SN which were at the time compared to this SH crew like "bugs" on a windshield screen they decided to travel to NW and at least Kid and Law are doing fine, Luffy however decided to spent 2 years training just so he would protect his crew from harm and never lose them again" Him struggling right off the bat would in a way negate that, it would negate him being ready now…)
That were my thoughts
-
Oda's opinion on Bleach, finally revealed:
-
@ultimateclima:
Luffy and co. aren't actively searching for them. I'm betting the other group will do the same thing, so it's basically them splitting up without them deciding to split up.
Or it's them being separated again. Which isn't necessary after 2 year period of them being separated.
-
 So many beautiful mermaids….Not just that, but different looking mermaids. There's variety.
I guess Sanji's finally getting a reward after being the subject of almost all of the jokes in the last couple of years.
-
Great great chapter. It all makes up for the lackluster last few chapters.
Sanji needs to get laid already. -
In this arc i think Sanji is going to discover something about the All Blue.
No, I think that Fishman Island is the All Blue. He stated it and it was played off as a joke, but it makes perfect sense. What better paradise for Sanji than for him to end up in the place he's searching for all along? I wonder if each one of the Straw Hats will go through their own personal hell before their dreams come true.

I agree Oda is exceptionally talented at control the operations of his aesthetic impulses.
The naturalist view of the fisherman's island is, precisely delicate. So much so that is it is difficult to analyze without, first admiring the warm sensations it brings to the conscious mind.
Beautiful!
