Oda confirmed that in one of those Q&A sessions he had earlier. Forgot what they're called.
The SBSs?
Which volume?

He never said that. If a Fishman eat a DF, he will be unable to swim, that's all.
…
kudo-kun, are you sure? As best I can tell from the scan and various translations, only the "lucky" SH cleared the area safely for sure. Lola's crew are still quite close to it.
...
Now that I read the chapter again, I'm not sure anymore
Cnet's translation for that same line is :
Lola: Just now… did you see something moving within the mist?
Pirates: What're you talking about, Captain Lola?! / Don't say scary stuff like that!!
Lola: ...Ah, well. Let's not go sailing through there again!!
Which I understood to mean they're not going through the Florian triangle again.
Even if they did not, there is no reason the karaken (monster/whatever it was) can't just catch up with them and get them.
Must admit it is a plausible idea to meet Lola that way, not that I think we will or wish it to happen
Actually that's a misunderstanding. The monster was inside the fog of the Florian Triangle, and by the time TB arc ended the entire ship island was out of the triangle (closer to Water 7 than the Red Line). It's the straw hats that should have run into the monster (since they had to sail into the Florian Triangle again), but their strong luck saved them.
Lola pirates said they weren't going into the Fog ever again, and should have safely continued their journey to the earlier parts of the Grand Line.
So was that shadow never explained up till now?
it still aint explaint, we are just deducing, guessing
Those still had yet to be discovered "monsters" are really exciting.
-Florian's monster.
-Dragons from Wano.
But there's especially one i'm eagerly waiting for, the Bloody snake from Elbaf.
http://www.mangareader.net/103-2236-7/one-piece/chapter-129.html
Tough i'm not sure he'll ever be shown since he seems like a deity or something, and since he can be compared to the Jormungandr wich is also a snake.
Vikings, giants and stuff.
And hope.
He never said that. If a Fishman eat a DF, he will be unable to swim, that's all.
Yeah, I didn't think it was the case either, since I read most of the SBSs.
Just reread the chapter again. And it came to mind. When they were heading towards Florian Triangle from W7, Luffy asked casually whether they would meet a living skeleton there. And they ended up with Brooke. This sort of subtle "foreshadowing" (for a lack of better word), happens quite a lot here.
Now, a thing that interests me is this panel.
!
The panel where Zoro said he has always wanted a Fire Sword is a pun, a joke and no more. But seeing how Oda uses this sort of things often. I think that Zoro will actually get his fire sword. Prolly not in FI, but in the future.
Well. I dont know if anyone have brought it up or not. So what do u guys think?

it has been brought up. I'm not too sure about it myself, usually the jokes that come true are Luffy's jokes.

From others translations i believe they were talking about the Red Line.

It's possible Zoro utilizing his demon chi techniques could light a sword on fire with Haki like energy, much like Sanji "lights his foot on fire."
A devil fruit isn't necessarily the answer, especially considering Ace was the fire fruit's previous owner.

That guy from WB's crew had a fire sword on Marineford War, we don't know if it was some kind of technique/devil fruit or whatever, but as it can be it may not.

a lot of usopp's old tales have come true.
giant goldfish and islands made of poop (Commented upon by the giants at Little Garden)
land of the Little People or Dwarves (Dwarves were mentioned in Noland's flashback and were on that slavery list Sanji was looking at)
legendary mole (Either Miss Merry Christmas or the Dirt Boss in Gedatsu's side story)
Cerberus (Thriller Bark, though)
but i don't think it's quite the same as when luffy foreshadows things, so i don't know what to think. although a fire sword would be pretty BA.

My hopes for a norse mythical beast wre crushed.
Thanks for the clarification tough ;)
Luffy always hints at something for the next Crewmate.. Chopper (Doctor), Franky (drawing), Brooke (he said meeting a skeleton) i hope to see Luffy hint at another person soon. (most likely a fishman)
–-
I was thinking.. how the heck is luffy,Brooke,Robin and Chopper going to actually get to fishman island? wont they drown?
Is it possible to Coat yourself?
Maybe there are DF Mermans underwater who coated themselves? =P
or maybe theres a Fishman underwater who is stuck underwater, not moving because of him being a hammer, he can still breath.. and maybe this fishman is extremely strong so nobody throws him up to the surface? he gets food from someone feeding him.. or a food support machine? and than Luffy desides to Coat him and help him and he becomes an enemy or an Ally?? =P
just a pile of Questions and Guesses :) maybe you guys could share your thoughts =P
Maybe Fishman Island is one huge coated city/town
We won't know until we find out
We know that there are resin bubbles there too like on Saobody.
Hopefully, there will be skin-grabbing bubbles (or something like that), so that we can see an island that is 100% underwater without a giant bubble around it and have the SH's walk around it freely, even those cursed by the sea.
Having skin-grabbing bubbles could also go in well with the concept of Fishmen with DF's
but if fishman island used to be filled with violence and pillaging, i don't think that the bubbles would be strong enough to withstand all the action and punishment to the body when taking attacks.

Unless the arc lasts about two minutes you're gonna have some pretty asphyxiated protagonists.

I also forsee a problem with Zoro's fighting style.

I don't think there should be Fishman DF users because as we have seen from the Arlong Arc, Fishman fighting styles are very diverse and unique.

I thought the problem in the bubbles was not being able to be "attacked" in a lot of different places at the same time? Force may not necessarily have to do with it, Caribou's colossal ship went through the bubble, and the bubble was just fine.
@Sven:

Not sure I get it, due to the Tenryubitos, I've been lead to assume that they can breath what's outside of the bubble, and due to the Ship on the sea surrounded by a bubble, I've been lead to assume that they can breath the oxygen from water.
I also forsee a problem with Zoro's fighting style.
I honestly don't see it.
This post made me think, though, wouldn't it be awesome if Zoro basically slashed his sword normally and almost divided the sea?

Adding the unique Karate style of fighting from the Fishmen with DF's can result in even more variety.
I do see your point, though, it seems there is a lot yet to explore with Fishman Karate.
Adding the unique Karate style of fighting from the Fishmen with DF's can result in even more variety.
Not really. It would totally eliminate all of the awesome underwater techniques as the user would be powerless there. It'd be better to put a DF to use on quite literally any other character.
Honestly, why do so many people want to see a DFd fishman so much? Aside from their BAMF fishlike features, it completely eliminates the point of being a fishman. Especially if you want a DFd fishman to join the crew.
How about someone who ate a DF that made them a fish :wassat:

It was a pun, and nothing more. Zoro already had a "Fire sword" back in Little Garden, which he used to finish off Mr. 5. If he had wanted a real fire sword, he would've just taken Ohm's after beating him.
How about someone who ate a DF that made them a fish :wassat:
That would be just as pointless since it wouldn't allow him or her to be in the water to use their ability. :getlost:

Hard to tell, since there are a lot of people who say the same or similar things and aren't.
Caribou is funny.

the world nobles might have feed a fishman slave a devil fruit like they did to the boa sisters
the world nobles might have feed a fishman slave a devil fruit like they did to the boa sisters
Ooooooh now that's an interesting thought, it would be a unique form of torture.
yes also hoping either doflamingo or one of the new 7 warlords has taken control of fishman island it would give the marines a reason to increase their bountys again
the world nobles might have feed a fishman slave a devil fruit like they did to the boa sisters
I could see that happening but I don't see what would be so interesting about it. Especially if people want him to join. :getlost:
What's the point of a fishman joining if he or she is a DF user and can't swim??

it does not have to join just saying that if there is a fishman/mermaid with a devil fruit they could have been force feed it if i was a world noble i would see what would happen to
also stops them running away in water slaves getting away is bad
Even if a fishman was forcefed a DF he or she would probably not be in Fishman Island because it's, you know, under water.
And the only place to get a ship coated is on Saobody, which, you know, enslaves fishmen on sight.

you speak as if the whole point of a fishman is that he can swim…
Yeeeesss it all makes sense now! the purpose of fishmen is swimming! My god I have just made a great discovery! And that must mean that the purpose of men is... walking!!! Dun dun dun!!!
Waterfalls within waterfalls…Who woulda known?

What if the new crew member ate the Swim Swim fruit that grants the ability to swim, nullifying the devil fruits power and essentially doing nothing other than providing us with some good laughs. That won't happen but it would be funny. Wait, is a Swim Swim DF even possible?

that goes in the dumb predictions thread, although given how off topic most of the conversations in this thread are it doesn't matter much.

Of course not lol.
I think that a fishman joining the crew makes sense because he or she could counter the fact that half the SH are devil fruit users. By, you know, having an advantage in water and all that when 4/8 current members cannot swim.
When it comes to a fishman with a DF joining, yeah he's a fishman… but there isn't that advantage in water and there isn't that fishman karate, nor any cool and unique underwater battles I hope for. Scrap all that and you just have another DF user, just one that might be the most physically strong of the crew - and I think Franky has that covered with those enormous arms of his.
I guess you could say that in a way, being a fishman or a merman is the opposite of being a DF eater, and I'd like that in the crew.
If you want another DF user to join (and god knows why), save that for a human.
personally I'm in the "Nakama Additions Might Be a Little Abominable" or as it's more casually known NAMBLA.

That would be retarded.

I c what you did there.
I really want a fishman to join, and after that I don't really care.

Maybe you should have used this one:ninja:…..:ninja:

No. Once you eat a DF you won't be able to swim. Even if it's a DF that gives you the ability to swim, the fact that you ate a DF makes you a hammer in water canceling the DF ability.
If what you're saying is true then anyone that knew how to swim prior to eating a DF would still be able to swim right?
EDIT: I just thought of something. If there really was a swim swim fruit, no1 would know what kind of power it has thus it wouldn't be called the swim swim fruit.
