My biggest problem with the idea is that the character wouldn't really suit the purpose (survival wise) for having a fishman on the crew in the first place.
Fishman Karate is all that matters

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerm…
Sure
-Alright then, a new small-arc before Fishmen Island, I would be pissed if it wasn't for the fact I love the Deep-Underwater Life.
-Jellyfish, nice
-Why is Chopper so idiotic now? He's a doctor but he doesn't know of the poison of the Jellyfish? Huuum… I guess its not that unlikely, but still.
-Holy shit, that thing came out of nowhere.
-Coup de Burst took away their air? Wait a sec, they actually have air inside that thing? I thought the bubbles made them able to breath the oxygen from the water outside the bubble, guess not, but then how did Luffy, Zoro and Sanji survive in that bubble, specially after Luffy blew that much air? Holy crap.
-Oh shit, Caribou is gone, where could he be? GEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH
-lol, Caribou is a pervert, I honestly wasn't expecting him to be this much of an idiot when I first saw him.
-I LOL'D SO HARD, Caribou planning the best plan ever, to take them out like the movie ALIEN, and Franky busts him right there, LOOOOL
-Oh shit, they know he's a Logia now, damn, I was hoping for Caribou to be actually a semi-threat here.
-Volcanos, another mythical creature, lack of air, holy shit.
-NIPPLE MORSE CODE, I LOL'D.
-HOLY FUCKING SHIT, WHAT A COLOSSAL FISH.
-Wait, I don't get it, how did the ship avoid the fish, another coup de burst?
-Another mystical creature? Wow.
-THE FLYING FUCKING DUTCHMEN, HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIT
-Oh, so Kraken was actually tamed, I though it was weird how Luffy stated he would tame Kraken and then just beat the shit out of him, guess they have to be weak for the Haki to work.
-The sillouete of van der Decken is weird, he kinda looks like Earthworm Jim
-Wait, is it a sillouete, or are the pirates actually like this? Brook did mention they were souls...
-Oh my god, now the Underwater Volcano.
The Strawhats are in deep shit (Dohohohohoh), seriously, though, awesome chapter, I'm enjoying this mini-arc very much. All of the stuff happening and let's not forget Caribou, that will have an important role for sure, this is gonna be a wild ride.
I knew the translator would van der Decken wrong but in two different ways? Note: Willem van der Decken was the name of the captain of the flying Dutchman in the original story.
You are clearly obsessed about this subject, calm down
Will fishman island appear in 2010? The bets are on!!!
I hope not, I want about 10 more chapters for this arc.
BTW I bet my ass that San Juan is from the same race as this giant.
Hum… I don't think they look alike, but maybe
And Kraken for Nakama!
Kraken is probably gonna be like those fighting Dudongs, they will follow Luffy and then there will be a certain place where they gotta part their ways (probably because the Kraken can't survive the pressure of the upper seas
@Sea:
Am I the only one who thinks those pirates were just imposting Van Der Dekken?
What's the explanation behind the ship travelling without the bubble, then? I hope its seriously cursed :D
The real one has been sort of mentioned in the Davy back fight.
Although in the OP world, they could be completely different people.
No, that was Davy Jones, that might be seen on this arc or later in the story.
Van derdeckan's crew definitely just consists of fishmen and probably merfolk, as someone pointed out earlier. Having the strength to row the boat, not needing a bubble, and having a part fishman giant in the crew, I don't know, from what we have seen so far a fishman wouldn't really follow a human, but there can be exceptions to everything.
Man, I'd like it to be a actual curse this time, I mean, why not? We already have Devil Fruits, why not have some kind of Devil?
That was once again an interesting and fast-paced chapter, I really like the adventure feeling we're getting in the last chapters.
Now onto the discussions:
The eruption of the sea vulcano will most likely create a diversion to let the SH's escape from our beloved Dutchman, and will most likely drive our heroes into a tight situation. I guess here the "cloth shark" will come in and help out by leading them to FI. it's also possible that Caribou might escape during all of this - maybe the barrel will burst when the ship is facing troubles with the vulcano?Anyway: Lot's of new things were introduced this chapter and FI is shaping up to become a REALLY long arc.
Here a quick overview (beware, big image file):

Interesting guide, specially interesting is what I found here
!
Is this gonna be weekly forever? I hope so, I enjoyed it. I honestly did.
I mock and laugh at Toei for a lot of stupid stuff, but I won't blame them if they don't make Whitebeard have the same damage he has on the manga by the end of the war.
Oda had clever points of view to hide it, and even then, he "censored" it
It will be nightmarish for Toei to hide it, unless they also censor it up, which will undoubtly look kinda ridiculous.
I think they should just minimize the size of the wound
-Nice filler with MR 3 again
-What the hell was with Luffy passing through a lot of Marines, all of them simply standing there, that was awful.
-The scene were Luffy battled 2 marines while the thousands surrounding them were looking was also stupid, although less
-A scene with all the Marines attacking Luffy, awesome.
-Nevermind, some of them got destroyed with Ivankok and the others just stood there.
-I don't like the fact Coby is now running to Luffy, in the manga, Coby was fighting with other people and saw Luffy by coincidence and had to fought with him.
-The awesome music made the flashback 100% more awesome.
-lol, smoke so that the marines don't get drawn out.
-BANG, awesome punch.
-Coby still thinking after that? Come on, Toei
-The scene with Coby was pretty awesome, overall, though, even with some stills and flashbacks, thumbs up, could have been far better, but pretty good.
-lol, Hancock flashbacks, meh, a little fillery, but whatever, mildly funny and nice kick.
-Pretty awesome scene where Marco and Joz are owned.
-Jimbei losing to some chain Marines? How pathetic, lol, he was also pretty hilarious when stuck, Toei is making a joke out of Jimbei time and time again.
-wOW, SO MUCH SMOKE
-LOL at the people getting slashed like that, the scene overall was insanely cool, what with thousands of marines in the air, but seriously, slashes don't work like that.
-Sengoku's screams never look like he's actually screaming to a lot of people, he looks like he's mumbling to himself.
-Toei, if you don't want to show bloody wounds, you can just not show them from so close.
-Filler speech from Whitebeard, but pretty good, I liked it.
-Jimbei took this long to destroy those chains? lol, I guess it makes sense, whitebeard told them not to advance.
-More Squard filler? Meh, fine.
-Awesome Haki scene, although I don't believe Mr 3 would go that far with the sword, derp.
-Jesus, did Luffy really knock out those many marines? As far as I know, he only took out some, here, he took every single Marine ever, are you telling me there are few Marines of the Marine Force that are able to survive Luffy's haki blast at this point of the story? I don't buy it.
-Akainu looked pretty pimp there, though.
-LOL at Ivankok behind Luffy.
Bad episode overall, as usual, some scenes are extremely awesome while the rest is pretty bad. And even the awesome scenes have some small nitpicks in them.
All I said was they were both touching scenes.
Neither was touching, I yawned at both almost equally. But that's subjective, I guess.
One of them however is effectively ruined by the power of love.
Both were "ruined" by the power of love, you just feel Naruto's more because it happens far more frequently, and also, because you don't want to hate One Piece and you want to hate Naruto.
Not implying that One Piece is somewhat bad, but you get what I mean
I think there was a good reason that Chopper of all people was the one who stopped Cindry. It's presumably something that will be explained in the future.
I will tip my hat off to you if it is so. It ain't happening.
And how in the name of Neptune's giant blue crank is Kishimoto's reasoning better when there is literally no reason at all?
Both Oda and Kishimoto broke the rules, Kishimoto said that someone could pick the soul and encase it into the body, the personality would stay but the person would have to stay under command. Meanwhile, Oda pretty much used the same concept, but the soul and the body was different, something that I consider more "realistic" (for lack of better word).
Kishimoto made the body be able to disintegrate, I assume because the soul got so touched it was able to get free.
Oda made a dead body (not the soul, that was from an entirely different person) regain its last soul (that is 100% gone, according to the rules of Oda) and act for some brief seconds as Cindry, not the maid.
I consider the first more plausible, once again, for lack of better word
Another thing.
Your other argument I left untouched was "This scene was lame, the other was touching"
I agree, but I was arguing specifically with the people that thought that the idea itself was lame, and also, that's 100% subjective, as I'm sure you know
Believe it or not I was actually waiting for someone to make that comparison.
And here's why that comparison fails:
In One Piece the zombies still acted like their original selves, but serve Moriah (to an extent). Cindry did hesitate and even cry, but she didn't lose her shadow from that and it was a touching scene.
In Naruto, the zombies are the original selves, but personalities can be shut off at any given moment. For whatever reason, Kabuchimaru didn't turn off everyone's personality. And we're given no reason or explanation why the power of love can not only stop the zombies, but evaporate them where they stand.
It turns what was supposed to be a touching scene into 3 pages of Kishimoto jerking off into our faces.
What's your point here? When Cindy stopped, it wasn't the soul of the maid thinking, it was the soul of Cindy, you know, the body, the one without life? Not the one that lost her shadow? It didn't make sense with the explanation provided by Oda and was something completely out of the blue, no one cared, Naruto does something that is more plausible, holy shit, what a terrible writer.
And your other argument is that Cindy doesn't disintegrate, so its somehow better.
