Well, it wasn't exactly on a silver platter (more like from inside a small treasure chest) but Luffy did receive his DF power as easy as can be. It took him years to train it and its side effect made him a hammer in the water, but it can't be denied that it has played a crucial role up to where he is now. It will continue to do so. It's a great power to have and thanks to its help Luffy has overcome a lot of difficulties. Could he have defeated Enel without it?
The DF doesn't make Luffy. Luffy utilizes it with much hard work and skill but it is a power that was just given to him by the manga. Nothing to complain about really. Just a fact.
