Databook: "One Piece Green"
-
-
So where can I read this databook?
-
Yeah, stuff like that, I don't mind
I don't mind them seeing randomly shown from time to time, as in referenced, as if they didn't just disappear and they're still on the colossal One Piece world
I just don't think everyone who has a cover-story will have the same involvment, as, say, Hatchi and Ace -
Thanks, so I suppose everything is absolute. Has there ever been any info that seemed (for lack of better words) not right? I just remember lots of talk about the other books and some kind of controversy regarding something. Not sure what though.
@Greg
I can vaguely recall something about less cursing from you, don't know why or when I just remember something about it.Pretty sure the silly idea that the Shichibukai = Marine HQ = Yonkou in terms of power came from the databooks.
-
Now Gedatsu may be under the question mark.
He now lives in Vivi's country and is acknowledged with the family of Vivi's best childhood friend. Maybe even Vivi herself (I don't know if they interacted off-screen at the opening of the hot spring). I think there's a pretty good chance that he'll appear if the Straw Hats ever meet Vivi again. And I think there's a pretty good chance that the Straw Hats will meet Vivi again as she was an honorary member.
-
Another picture from 2ch, I think nothing new.
-
So I've heard you can find OP stuff in the states in bookstores like Kinokuniya…how about Sanseido bookstores in Mitsuwa Marketplace?
-
The cover stories are not that important, who knows if we'l ever see Enel and Wapol again?
You should read the Strawhat separation serial.
@CCC:Is this the first Spacey coloring we've seen? Not that it would've been hard to guess that their military outfits were green…
They were in Unlimited Cruise but I'm not sure how accurate it is.
-
@Dan:
Pretty sure the silly idea that the Shichibukai = Marine HQ = Yonkou in terms of power came from the databooks.
Actually I'm pretty sure that it came from Mihawk lol.
-
Thanks Greg and Redon for the info and pics, you to Dan Dangerously.
Man bald Brook isn't nearly as cool, I suppose he could be with the right jacket but that Afro really makes him stand out.
As for cover stories not being important, you can bet Gedetsu is going to get involved with the royal army in Alabasta when Luffy rages war with the entire world on his side. That Wapol Metal? It's not over yet, where gonna see it somewhere and it is going to be very important.
As for Eneru, too just disregard that at all as something that will never be touched upon again then you really don't understand One Piece well.
-
Somehow this early sketch of Brook makes me remember Grim Fandango (the game).
-
But why would Wapol come back? Weren't his toys in Thriller Barque?
No. Common misunderstanding of what Oda meant in an SBS.
RomanceDawn I think I saw you on TV.
They did a 'Best of' show with the cool people they met around the world and I think you were there for a blip. I pulled out my camera and tried to catch you but not sure if I did.
And most One Piece-related book releases are readily available at Sanseido in Edgewater.
-
Ohh thanks Greg! That's great to know! So they would even have Color Walks too!? That's awesome. I'd even pick up the Marineford / Impel Down volumes in Japanese as well!
Are the prices super high because they're imports?
So as a fluent Japanese speaker / reader, I was wondering how helpful a self-taught Japanese program would be? I just recently dug out a coursebook, dictionary, and these CD's I had gotten a few years back and started and just never followed through. I really think it would be cool to read the data books etc. Learning a language may seem a little extreme for a hobby, but OP IS that awesome to me lol
-
So they would even have Color Walks too!?
They have them when they're first released. They might not have them in stock now. I BELIEVE you can order them though.
It's been so long I forget how expensive the tanks are. Not by much. EGX/J-Sack could tell you but I don't think they're more than 6 or 7 bucks.
Self-taught is fine. I'm self-taught. I do suggest the Genki series and their older sister Intermediate Japanese from Japan Times. Anything higher than that and you should be studying with Japanese textbooks.
-
oh sweet, well even being able to order them is good. 6 or 7 bucks?! That's great, even cheaper than the Viz volumes are in the US.
I'll definitely look into those programs. The one I have is Living Language…I really only barely started it but then college hit. Stupid engineering classes taking up all my time XD
But it seems like a good use of free time to learn another language! The books I have say they're for learning to speak conversational Japanese, but they don't have anything about Kanji, Katakana, Hirigana, etc. so I suppose you'd need a book to learn those right?
Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to reach a level where you could read the language comfortably? And to speak it confidently?
-
Genki 1 and 2 will teach you conversation, reading and writing.
Once you officially get through Intermediate Japanese from Japan Times you will be able to talk comfortably and understand comics like One Piece with relative ease.
-
Ohh wow…that's great! =D Thanks!

Awesome thanks for the heads up!

Glad I read this thread.
-Now I know for certain the databooks have not a chance in hell to get translated to English. Already have Blue and Red, couldn't find Yellow.
-Found out about a Japanese book store in the City right in front of the park I always use to kill time between work and classes. Can't fucking believe I missed this kinokuniya Bookstore I could get Data Book Yellow from instead of ordering it online with shipping costs and also they could very well have Data book Green as soon as it's released in Japan.
-Found out some niffy Japanese Language learning programs, but I doubt I'll ever use them and or get them.
-Last but not least One Piece Data Book Green going to have all the Cover stories! Thanks for the info Greg, looking forward to future updates.

To tell you, they do usually get their books the day its released in japan.
-
Enel should be on the cover all alone xD
-
Cool, thx Redon.
-
The Kinokuniya in NYC usually gets OP books on the day they are released in Japan, but sometimes they're not available until a few days after. But just call ahead and ask if they have the book you're looking for, so you don't waste the trip.
And most One Piece-related book releases are readily available at Sanseido in Edgewater.
Yeah, that's where I've been going since the Kinokuniya at my mall closed…
It's only 35 minutes from my house, and the clerks always speak to me in Japanese in a completely non-patronizing way (as if... anyone who enters the store simply must know Japanese already), which is nice :D -
=O What do they do if you don't know Japanese?

I broke them in.
-
Logs have actually gotten lamer as time has gone by.
They USED to include Oda's character design sketches and all sorts of goodies but now it's usually a shitty poster or two.
The tank covers they come with ARE pretty sweet though. Particularly the 'Heroes' and 'Villains' ones.
yeah, I have noticed this aswell
-
-
LOL@ Camies face behind the title
-
@Vongola_Boss_XI:
=O What do they do if you don't know Japanese?
I've always presumed that they would yell at you and make you leave the store.
-
the cover looks great O can't wait to buy it!

Money , who needs it ?:ninja:
-
i want to read the previous Data Books in english… does anyone have a link to them or anything? where i live you cannot get them
-
Well GREEN spoiler info are starting to get posted by Q (welcome back Q!) already… but I don't think it's appropriate to post here, don't want Greg's wrath again.
-
Hm. Is there something immoral to posting spoilers from a databook compared to manga spoilers?
-
I'll ask brennen to see if it's ok to start a spoiler thread about databooks, or if it can go here.
Even if I post it in spoiler tags, it'll be discussed and won't really do much to hide. -

Aww, I wanna see the forum go up in flames.
-
Oh my, I so hope we get it posted! I'm so curious~

Our good ol' Q-san has come back, and with a surprise gift.
early spoilers from Data Book Green!pics
@chpollastrini:Early sketches of Strawhat gang ideas reveal Brook as crew existed even in early stages of idea… and the First Mate looked like a cross between Usopp and Teach!
And here's a shocker.... SANJI'S ORIGINAL NAME WAS NARUTO.Because Naruto, the manga series, started serializing before One Piece got to the Baratie arc, his name was changed to Sanji.
So far what can be seen from the pics:
Unexpected hobby of Zoro: Zoro likes to flip through picture guides of weapons, as well as collected book of bounty heads.
Sanji's name was Naruto!: Originally Sanji was named Naruto. But Naruto started serialization, so he changed his name to Sanji.
Various ideas of Nightmare Luffy: There were ideas such as "polite and serious" Luffy with a side-part hair style. Him taking in shadow of a swordsman to use swords was already decided as well.
Ace's tattoo: Sabo's initial was carved into Ace's tattoo! (duh)
Luffy was terrible at lying even back when he was a little kid! (duh)
Dadan was originally a man: Early design of Dadan, he was a male. He wore a kasa hat, shades, and smoked a pipe.
The pretty lady shown in the pic… is the current Dadan WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG.
Ace and Garp's conversation had hidden meaning: Without letting the readers know, they were actually talking about Roger! (duh)
Spooky face on Chopper's head!?: This was originally going to be used in Sky Island, Robin doing a Face Flower on back of Chopper's head. It was way too creepy to be used.
Chopper's early design was a zebra-raindeer that smokes cigar. Holy hell.
Chopper will never fall in love with a human. He can befriend them and respect them, but he won't find them attractive as a mate.
Early Franky: Franky's early designs were slim, tall man who spent much of his life in jail. He could forge weapons, but could not use them.
FRANKY'S SUPER UNDERWEAR HOLDS HIS CRAFTING "TOOLS" AT ALL TIMES.
Usopp and Garp's interaction: Although it was cut due to page limitation, there was a scene originally where Garp and Usopp have a conversation!
Usopp shows his concern about his dad in the Red Hair Pirates, and Garp asks Usopp to take care of his grandson.
Eye-patch pirate will show up later in the series
Early designs: cigar-smoking raindeer as doc, Naruto/Sanji as cook, a skeleton as a musician, a sniper as First Mate, a female navigator, and a swordsman warrior.
Most of these have carried through in the series, but the shipwright was a midget and Franky was a skinny weaponsmith. -
Done, done and done. Head on over, fellas.
-
I like that nightmare Luffy a lot more than I like the actual one. Awesome stuff.
-
Chopper, Brooke and Usopp early designs look hilarious. Good one.
-
It's official. God hates Sanji.
He would have been called Naruto. HAH!
-
Wow. Like Sanji haven't gone through enough already.
-
No wonder Sanji is always the punchline.
-

Haha this.
Can't wait for more, this looks way more interesting than I would've guessed. :D
-
So
Basically
Usopp was originally planned
to be the first mate? :DDDDDDDDDDDDDThank you Aohigeee! <3
-
Lol curly brows. XD
