I remember the chapter threads when ace died, there were tons of upset people. And last year when this was being argued(if memory serves by only a handful of people here - zephos, vanessa, aldrich, sanigo and myself), there were also only a few people who liked the idea but didn't think oda would go through with it.
I wanted Ace alive so he could be killed off later in a fight with Blackbeard.
But then, I thought that Whitebeard and one of the Admirals would die and there would be massive (like over half of WB's commanders, most NW pirates, and a bunch of VA's, and Moria) casualties for both sides.
I didn't expect the Marines/Warlords curbstomping Whitebeard's army like they did.

Of course this is news that disappoints all of us, but we all know it's well deserved. Hell, as much as it would blow I think he should take a break until new years.
It won't be that bad for me though, Birth By Sleep in less than 2 weeks. :D
I agree i'll be so busy with Birth by Sleep i wont really notice the absence.
-

Well, they weren't really curbstomped, they lost Whitebeard and Ace, but the rest of the crew is still there. The Whitebeard crew can't be regarded as a Yonkou's crew anymore, but they are still a force that you should take into account. That's what the Five Elders wanted to point out when they said that Marco and the rest of the Whitebeard's pirate could have a chance to stop Blackbeard.

Sigh I must admit it will not be as fun to lurk around here without the new content - :( This site is normally the only one that is active when I am doing 12 hour night shifts O.o

If anything I expected a little more from the marines , particularly the VA's . But Oda seems to treat them as bricks without personalities and we mostly never even saw them fight anyone specific . Hell look at Onigumo and his fucking off when he could have finished Marco after Kizaru blasted him .

Maybe they will appear in the New World, for the sake of cool designs, they have the third highest rank in the marines, they can't just disappear. A Buster Call would be nice. But now, they shouldn't just stand there and shout "Fire, fire!" They should do the BC by themselves. Without ships. With their bare hands:ninja:
I'm not giving my hopes up. Momonga got some attention, as well as Onigumo. And I'm pretty sure Oda has plans for Yamakaji and Strawberry. Cause smile+the best hat= awesomeness.
There are others I wish would show up, but it's unlikely. Like the Giant Squad and T-Bone. Oh well, at least we still got Sengoku (who has the 2nd best hat) and Garp. Do we?
-
I think post-timeskip Luffy will be around vice-admiral level, so that's when at least one or two of them will come into greater focus

What's vice-admiral level?
stronger than Moria or weaker than Moria?
-
Around the strength of your average vice admiral. Beyond that, I don't know since we haven't really seen them in action enough

And what's the strength of an average vice admiral, weaker or stronger than Moria?
-
I would imagine stronger. Again, we haven't really seen them much. My basis is that the story is still only about halfway done, so Luffy should still need to grow a lot, and vice admirals are the level where Haki becomes standard, so it's a nice fit
-
It's not likely that Luffy gets stronger than Moria.
-
It's likely after the time skip Luffy would be able to hold his ground against an admiral and would be at least at the same level or even stronger against a shichibukai.
I'm hoping that Moria would be back on his true good old self.
-
LOL @ VAs being stronger than Moria. If you aint talking about Garp I don't see how from what we've seen from them you could say that has anything supporting it.
-
Hey Beka's back .
Tell me if Raise ever gets resurected .

The Giant Squad seems the most likely to re-apear again for intimidation factor .
This was was the best place to show case some of their personalities , but we just got mugshots .

It would be a giant waste if they'd never show up again.
It happens all the time. I watch/read something, and my favourite characters are always being ignored, used only a few times, and then nobody can remember them.

Oh my hell, what kind of bird is that?
Wow, that happens when I should've gone to bed hours ago.
But I'm right after all. Am I not?
Anyway, yeah, they also have cool designs, especially beardedcatdude and Ms. Giant, and thepurplehairedguy. Hell, we need names.
-
The lulz bird .
We do need names . Especialy for the first female giant we ever even saw .
Oh and we need positive proof Catman's nose is not like that .
Anyways I call them : Catman , Hippo Guy…...and those are the only nicknames I have actualy :P
-
If Moria was in his prime it would definitely be Moria, but I just get the feeling that Moria as he is now is weaker. I could be wrong though, it's just Moria was already beaten by Luffy (before you say it took the whole crew to beat him, that was technically Oars, who was heavily implied to be stronger than Moria himself). As I doubt Luffy will be admiral level after the timeskip, Vice-admiral seems like a good area to place Luffy's new power level among the marine ranks. Thus, they kind of need to be better than Moria if they want to be a big challenge

I do not envy that girl giant. If she is the only one around, then she has to be veery careful:ninja:

I want Sanji to meet her . Just the reaction he'd have to boobs bigger then their whole ship XD .

It must happen! But poor Sanji, she is way to big for him. No matter, I like GirlGiantxpurplehairedgiant pairing better. :ninja:

And why, pray tell, does their time-skips not count? I'm just reporting how I usually see things with anime fans around here…
"Dragonball was the shit! Dragonball Z is boring!" (and yes, I know it's all Dragonball, but that's the particular time-skip that shifted the series)
"Naruto was actually good! Part 2 is sucky!"
"Death Note with L was good! Afterwards with Near and Mello was meh."
And these are usually what anime/manga fans think from the different forums I go to. It's only here where I'm seeing some people say that the suckiness from those series started BEFORE their time-skips.
So, seeing how they general populace seems to dislike those series after a time-skip, I don't find it surprising how some people are worried about One Piece. Yes, Oda is good. But so were the other authors before they introduced their so-called time-skip.
Thanks Fox News.
"Oh wow! These un-scientific polls seem to SUGGEST most americans think the president is a Muslim Manchurian Candidate! Sure is SOMETHING. Yup. Now I'm not gonna bother actually making an argument and making the points that could lead to this conclusion, but I'm gonna meaninglessly gesture at opinion polls! OPINION POLLS WOOOOOOO. LOOK AT HOW MANY PEOPLE BELEIVE A THING."
Shut the fuck up Romangod.

Careful JD, he might have a breakdown.

So this Romangod is a notoriously bad poster?

So this Romangod is a notoriously bad poster?
RomanMack/God is insane. He had a bitchfit when Cartoon Network cancelled Toonami, and another one when One Piece's ratings were low (and no it didn't matter which dub it was, he freaked when the 4Kids dub did poorly).
So yeah he's kind of notorious for his stupidity.
-
It's likely after the time skip Luffy would be able to hold his ground against an admiral and would be at least at the same level or even stronger against a shichibukai.
I don't see Luffy beating any of the current Shichibukai after the timeskip except for maybe Jinbei.
And lol at him holding his ground against an Admiral.
I think post-timeskip Luffy will be around vice-admiral level
Luffy will most definitely not be at the same level as anyone who was among the strongest participants in the war. God damn VA's are underestimated.
and vice admirals are the level where Haki becomes standard, so it's a nice fit
huh?

this month is going to be long
can't wait for the month to end , i hope something's gonna surprise us
here we go time skip -
The last really fantastic part of Naruto was the previous failed vessel that Ooruchimaru had kept in the medical bay and fought Rock Lee/Gaara. He was fantastic.
i think it's just that rock lee was a really, really compelling character and trotting him out every time the series started to hit a lull worked. he seemed to reappear and make the whole damn thing exciting again.
story-wise, the chunin example has its missteps, but its high points were so high that you tend to ignore the rough edges. zabusa's arc was pretty solid as a story itself, but the pacing was off around the middle. naruto was never a great series and it never had a truly 'great' arc. it's just that in the early days it would hit these really high peaks in storytelling that made you get excited for the direction things seemed to be going.
naruto had these unbelievable moments of payoff that indicated kishimoto getting better and better. there were moments showing his potential that, while this arc was pretty good, the next thing on the horizon was going to be something way better.
as for the timeskip, i'm not too keen on it. after all the light-on-story, heavy-on-action stuff from marineford..it probably makes a bunch of long-term fans feel some trepidation. but, i mean, it's a necessary story evil, too. i'd rather just skip ahead a few years than read tons of fuck-boring, cliche training arcs. the strawhats need to be taken to the next level to reach the next level of the grand line. oda has to raise the stakes and the strawhats being able to fend for themselves has to make logical sense.
-
I think everyone is forgetting that VA is just a ranks there are standard VAs and then there VAs who are at admiral power level who turned down promotions (Grap) So you cant really judge how strong luffy is going to be by the level of a marine. If you want another example look at Smoker he clearly has the power to get promoted to a VA but he is still a commodore.
-
Smoker he clearly has the power to get promoted to a VA but he is still a commodore.
No he doesn't. You need to control haki in order to be promoted to VA. Smoker still has a long journey to go. But he could probably be Rear Admiral by now… (+1 rank I think).
-
When was it said you have to learn haki to be a VA? I know it was stated that all VAs know haki but I missed the part where it was said haki is a needed requirement in order to be considered for promotion to a VA.
-
I guess its anime catching up for me.
Anyone know of a site where I can download free HQ English sub OP episodes online?

If the avarage Vice-Admiral is stronger than a Shichibukai, why would there even be a need for the Shichibukai?
