Second episode to me. I do not kid when I say I liked one piece better than naruto which I had read for about 6 years prior to reading one piece in full on the second episode. Yes is was Luffy's I don't give a fuck gangsta attitude that made me say fuck DBZ and the rest of those pansy's One piece is the shit for me.

I enjoyed it more, because I didn't like it that an awesome character like Nami started acting all evil, but that was before I saw the big picture of what was going on with her. I remember particularly liking the very beginning with Luffy, Coby, and Zoro. :)
-
For me it was a little different. I had watched the anime a bit when it was on Cartoon Network and the like, basically just cause it was on. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't so super compelling to me. Than just like a year ago I came across the One Piece Wiki and just browsed that, and saw how far One Piece had gotten, and knew I would love it. I started reading it, and honestly, didn't care a whole lot for any of East Blue looking back at it. I can't even say where I started thinking it was great, cause I already knew going into it that it just was great. Buggy was eh, didn't like Kuro at all, Baratie again was only eh, and Arlong didn't do anything for me either. I didn't care very much for the individual stories, but the adventure as a whole was very compelling.
-
I liked Romance Dawn, I didn't like the Alvida chapter, I did like the Morgan Arc, I didn't like the Buggy Arc or Gaimon, but then I liked Captain Kuro and have liked every arc since.
-
I watched a few episodes of the 4 kids dub and thought the show sucked. Then one saturday morning I'm flipping though the channels and happen upon the finale of the Arlong fight. I thought it was good so I watched the terribly dubbed show. But that was the extent of my fascination.
I didn't read the manga until I was online trying to read Naruto when I found out about One piece. I read it and thought it was way better than Naruto and Bleach. I actually addressed things.
Thenl I saw a video of the Luffy vs Lucci fight on youtube and I really started to pay attention. I watched videos of all the big fights, and became extremely interested in the show and the manga.
Right now, One Piece has beaten out DBZ as my favorite.
-
Baratie arc is what actually hooked me. That and Zeff's speech about grit/will/spears or what have you.
-
Honestly I thought it was consistently very good up to the Arlong arc. Of course, it was more childish and the plot wasn't as intricately crafted as later, but I loved the style and humor. It was a nice warm glass of stupid in a time when manga was trying (is still trying?) way too hard to be "cool."
I also like that even though One Piece has been running so long, the themes from early on in the series are still very relevant.
-
I was on board from the very first episode. The cliffhanger with Zoro's first appearance kept me going, and I've never looked back.
As for the Arlong arc, well, I remember finding an image of the scene of Luffy stopping Nami from stabbing her arm, and I was pretty surprised at her mutilating herself, since at this point I was still watching the Buggy arc, where her characterization was pretty basic at that point, and I couldn't imagine her doing something like that. Arlong was what set the emotional bar for the series. It was the point that showed that One Piece really had more to it than a unique style and light-hearted action.
-
I started to find One Piece interesting after the Zoro vs. Mihawk fight. I started to really like it after Arlong, and love it after Alabasta. It took a while for me to become addicted (after all, when I started, it was already 400+ chapters long, which deterred me for a while. Thank you #lurk ).
It's not very often one of the strongest characters in the world (and not an enemy!) whoops a main character's ass very early on the story. Basically the start of an awesome trend, where as strong as the Mugiwara are, there is far stronger out there.
-
I began reading in Baratie. Sanji is my favorite character (subject to change at any time), and I thought the Zoro vs. Mihawk fight was awesome.
I also loved
! Luffy beat Don kreig.
Wait. That doesn't count as a spoiler does it…
-
Kuro's Arc got me really interested but Baratie Arc had me hooked. It was all uphill from there.
-
I thought that it was pretty cool right after the first episode that I watched, I believe it was during the Kuro act. And believe it or not I was watching the 4kids version. Well I was more of a country bumpkin back then and didn't even speak English. So the voice wasn't much of a problem to me. I just though it was awesome because of the characters and the fighting scene. I didn't even understand the plot back then. Yeah I know it pretty lame. After a few years I gain access to the internet and begin to watch the sub since the 4kids one got ruined. And God I instantly like the series. After the Arlong arc I fall in love with the series, then after the Alabasta arc I fall madly in love with the series ….. maybe I should stop.
-
I started watching the anime from episode 1 and I liked it ever since. At one point the anime stopped but I needed more so I started reading the manga from the very beginning and I have like every bit of it, before or after arlong doesn't matter although I must admit that if it had stayed like it was before Arlong I would not be reading anymore because it was just too juvenile. It's fun for a few volumes but a pirate manga should have some gruel and bad-asses. Arlong was okay but the first real bad-asses were smoker and Crocodile though.
-
in all honesty i hated the first few arcs till the Baratie arc
the whole show was not that interesting to me it felt a bit off.
it had a childish theme to it i did not enjoy
the only reason why i continued watching was because i found zoro interesting and all the videos on youtube about the "4Kids" censoring
but im glad i kept watching -
It gave off this powerful aura in certian moments, yet these moments were so simple. That is what hooked me.

Not sure when I started reading One Piece as I started on animes in general, going by a friend's random suggestions first. I was bouncing around a random assortment of Anime at first and really not liking any of them other than the ruthlessly dark story told in Bezerk. In retrospect, there's a lot of quality Anime I missed so I am in no way trying to say most Anime is bad, just the ones I saw before reaching One piece didn't really interest me. When I finally ran into Oda's masterpiece, I was hooked.
Started on OP from the KF production, which ran dry well before Water7 (I wasn't willing to watch crap to catch up to the adc fansubs), so I went manga. Think the manga was starting on Thriller Bark at this time but it took me a while to read to that point from the start. I didn't really feel the need to blow though the story in order to catchup.
Can honestly say I really liked the anime of OP, but the manga is what pushed that feeling to love. The world Oda has crafted is as wonderful as it is expansive. The crew of misfits that make up the Strawhats are so entertaining in their own right that I don't even need more than a chapter of them goofing off together to satisfy me.
Overall , I just read OP for the sheer pleasure. Every arc adds something to the world such that I don't begrudge any of them, that's just how much I like Oda's work.
Unsure when I first started hitting the spoiler section of AP forums but it was clear people were taking the manga far more seriously than I was. The depth of knowledge regarding One Piece (and other Manga/Anime) that is running around in here is fascinating, but it doesn't really change how I see Oda's story overall; It's an amazing piece of work.
-
I thought of One Piece as a retarded series because I got a first look at it from Playstation one when I played Grand Battle(I liked the game but I got an impression that OP seems retarded). Years later, I read the manga then watched anime episodes that featured my favorite parts in the manga and I never looked back. I started to read the manga just this last April.
The Arlong arc showed Luffy's devotion to his nakama(And justified Luffy's decision of going after Nami) and the CP9 arc followed that up nicely with Nico Robin.
-
Wow. Judging from what I've read so far, I'm one of the longest OP reader here. I started reading the manga in…...2002 I think. At first I kinda thought the drawings were.....weird. But I kept reading, until when Zoro enters. At the last panel in the fight with Morgan, Luffy said "Nice, Zoro". And he replied "Aye, Aye captain" with Morgan slashed as the background. That one hit me, this guy (Oda) i does a good job drawing scenes. And it proved again with Arlong, when Luffy called on his crew to fight, they replied "Roger!". That was a cool scene. I can't remember when I decided that the story and the plot was great, it was flowing and before I know it, I already assume the story was great from the beginnings.
But the early ones was kinda hard, I have to wait a month to get the next volume, there weren't as many websites providing scanlations like now.
-
For me it was just interesting in the beginning, had it's first strong and surprising moments in the Kuro arc, and loved it during the Baratie arc, especially with Sanji's awesome flashback :) But yeah, Baratie was a really cool arc, and i prefer it slightly than Arlong's
-
I really got hooked when Nami steals the Going merry at the begining of Baratie. Because up until then the strawhats had just been sailing to a town and fixing their problem but for the first time the straw hats had their own problem that needed sorting out not just a villager or one of the crew asking for help. Also the begining of Baratie was more hectic with with the apperances of villains and not knowing who's the main bad guy gonna be.
-
I actually watched the anime up to the end of Ennies Lobby first then I read it about a year and half later. The series hooked me about the middle of the buggy arc and I really did not dislike anything since then (aside from Gaimon that was lame). Reading it was similar, though I tend to have trouble getting through the early arcs again, the series really shines at Baratie and then again at Arlong.
-
Kuro arc is one of my favorites arcs up to this day, so that instantly made me like the series.
But the first couple arcs were so lame :( I did not hate them like I do with the beginning of other manga/anime, but still… wasn't very good though... I liked Buggy (he was funny) but the plot and everything wasn't that well done early on.
But what kept me going was Luffy's attitude and Buggy :)
-
thriller bark at first i was confused whether or not brooke was a girl and didnt know who franky was but i saw them do so much to Odz. then i decided to watch enies, then the navy HQ (nirvana?) then started back from episode 1
-
Hmmm. . .Am I the only one who can't fcking believe the amount of Buggy arc hate???
That arc, IMHO, is the DEFINITION of what One Piece is about: Zoro recieves his first bloody handicap; Luffy befriends someone who has a tragic and heroic backstory (Shuu); the village people wants to fight back but find themselves helpless, thus making Luffy's fight meaningfull; Nami hates pirates yet sees Luffy's heroic act of revenge on Shuu's behalf, and starts changing her opinion; Buggy Ball making spectacular mass destruction; sub-bosses with funny designs and abilities; and, in the end, a QUITE long battle (taking in consideration that everyone finds Buggy a "joke character", he gave Luffy a run for his fcking money) among Fruit users (the first in the series, and it wasn't reprised until Smoker's appearence), etc…..I think it defined everything that makes a One Piece Arc what we know nowadays.
For me, Buggy Arc was great, Kuro was an awesome villain, the Baratie Arc was very good, and, of course, Arlong is bordering on the godly level.
-
I thought that it was ok ,not that good , until Arlong Arc , it was well done and it hooked me to one piece .
-
I was interested, but very weary as to if I'd really pick it up as one of my weekly reads. Arlong happened and I was hooked. Then Water 7 happened and it's effect was just radical.
Huh. I liked the Buggy Arc. There seem to be many who don't.
-
Zoro recieves his first bloody handicap;
I agree that the Buggy arc was good (I like it much better than the Kuro arc myself) but Zoro's first handicap was against Morgan. After the fight he collapsed from exhaustion and a lack of food (though I suppose that isn't 'bloody')
-

Oops, my mistake, you're right! And yes, he was also "bloodied", so yeah.
-
Zoro had a handicap in every serious fight in east blue (aside from Mihawk). I really do not think we really saw Zoro's full abilities until his fight with Mr 1.
-
I too was hooked baratie arc, but Enies Lobby's the one who made me in love with One Piece.
-
Kuro Arc was much better in retrospect I think, but I was definitely hooked by Baratie. I had already seen Sanji's character and liked him, so when Baratie came up I was that much more into it.
-
Actually got hooked by Captain Morgan Arc. It was the tone Oda set and the interactions of the characters that showed me the potential. Buggy Arc was okay. Kuro and Baratie pretty good. Arlong topped them all.
-
Say what you will, I hate Coby with a passion. I was ready to stop reading as soon as he popped up. But then Zoro was added and Coby left so I thought "well maybe now it will get better." As I read on I felt it was getting progressively better. Then Sanji came out of nowhere and that day I was proud to be a man. I have been hooked ever since.
-
Nah i liked the war and rescue the best because it was the most risky, dramatic, and the only one that ended in the marines winning.
-
i watched the show up till ID then i read it and i just now finished reading it from the beginning so ive changed my mind…..
b4: cp9
after: skypeia -
If I had the right to vote, I'd vote for the East Blue Arc. For me, One Piece is best when it's focusing on the relationships between the crew, which is why the core group coming together in the first arc is probably my favorite overall section of the story.
Incidentally, for the same reason I'd vote War and Rescue as my least favorite. Sure, it was "badass" and "cool," but this period (measured in real time years) with the crew not being together has just been way too long IMO. I'm not saying it won't be good for the story in the long run, but it's been a real slog getting through this period for me.
-
EL I believe mostly because I've been waiting for Luffy to gain a new power/technique.
-
well, the shabaody/impel down/war arc was, at this point, the best for me because of the awesome characters that were shown to us like the Supernova, Rayleigh and Shakki, Kuja pirates, New World captians, Hannyabal, Magellan, the return of croc, ivankov and inazuma, newkama's, the whitebeard pirates and most of their powers, Shanks' crew . . .
the list seems to just keep on going. Then, there were also very important things that happened for the overall plot line: WB died, Ace died, SH's go train for 2 years after being owned easily, Moria is not a Shichibukai anymore but they failed to kill him, there'll be a new fleet admiral because of these events, the 3 great powers are totally unbalanced, BB is making his move in the New World, many new pirates are going to sea because of WB words.
In short, what I want to say is that this is by far the most important arc as of yet and for me the most awesome one as well. But something tells me that Fishman island is going to lead up to a major arc as well and it'll be awesome. -
Not really sure about my FAV arc in the manga as they're all good for my liking but in the anime .. T.B, S.A and Amazon Lilly are up there for me.. I think how much the drawings and colours are improved in these arcs makes a difference for me.
-
During my reread, I have come to terms with that Baroque Works is my favorite arc. It has several islands, lots of plot and a great climax!
CP9 is ok, but it only spans Water 7 and Enies Lobby, and to be honest, it's a bit draggy and the latter part is lacking in plot. Fighting on an island. Ok.
The War and Rescue Arc is probably my second favorite, due to how much it progresses in terms of the main plot.
-
war and rescue arc I would definitely vote. I'm not surprised that cp9 is so popular.
-
The Whitebeard War Saga was the best. It had my two of my favorite arcs: Marineford (1st place) and Sabaody Archipelago (3rd place). The 2nd place would be the Enies Lobby arc.
-
To hard to say! I was going to say the arc ussop was introduced but that wasn't an option.
-
The Water 7 and Enies Lobby Arc were definitely the best Arcs when they premiered, everyone seemed to have become stronger in that Arc. Though now, the Whitebeard Saga seems to be just a step ahead, simply because of all of the story elements and the return of some old faces.
-
For me it's a tie between the Whitebeard War and Thriller Bark. Yes I know I'm in the minority for Thriller Bark but I found it to be very enjoyable, very camp (compared to CP9 and Skypeia) fun.
-
For me it have go to Thriller Bark. I just love the arc for all the character designs for all the zombies and stuff. Also the arc introduce couple of my favorite villians of the series (Moria and Perona).
-
To this point, I feel stupid repeating what everyone said. Instead of going, "Oh I loveeed this arc!", I'll explain why I loved it.
My favorite arc happens to be the War and Rescue arc. The reasons to why I adore this arc is because:
1. It is filled with juicy things. Things that make me squeal as I read. Yes, I do squeal.
2. It adds so much to the plot. Things make absolute sense now, wouldn't you agree?
3. Some of the villains from the older arcs come back. Ex: Buggy, Crocodile, Mr. 3 and Bon-chan.
4. New villains. I love me some villains.
5. For the first time, we get to see Luffy managing things on his own. Or trying to. I know most people were like "BUT ZOROOOO" or "The Strawhats MUST be together!" No, they don't have to be stuck with each other 24/7. Oda tries to let his readers be able to connect with the characters. And being separated from a dear friend (or a family member, since Luffy considers them that to an extent) for a while is something people in general understand.
I think I might have overdone this, but it was worth it. There are more reasons, but I might turn this post into a wiki page. I would not want that.
-
Favorite arc for me would be Marineford (If that even consider a arc) I reread it like almost 5 or 7 times how good it was from 550 to the end of war.
Each and every time I already knew what was coming in the next page but still couldn't wait to see it.
-
Water 7 - Enies Lobby for me. I just love the emotional elements of this arc.. its so intense. Its just wonderfull when sogeking burn the WG flag.
The War comes in a second place for sure.
-
The Davy back fight is my favorite arc.
