@Crossword:
Death. You'll see the motif pop up in anime every now and then. Death Note, for instance, had exactly one-hundred and eight chapters as well, not counting the one-shots. Also, Urouge's bounty in One Piece is 108 million berries.
More like it's the number of earthly sins in Buddhism, along with being a prominent number for various other things in that religion.
That's why Urouge, the fallen monk, has it as his bounty, along with Zoro's 108-pound Cannon.
Fits Hagaren perfectly, what with the main antagonists being named after Christianity's top 7 sins.
@Vegard:
…I have a hard time believing that. I mean, really, that's practically an entire graphic novel on its own! I know the guy said he was shocked by the "enormity" of the chapter, but really, I can't really believe that she'd be able to draw 150 entire pages in 30 days. So until the final chapter is actually released, I'll just assume that he meant… uh, something else...
Back when Monster Hunter Orage was running, Mashima Hiro managed that frequently.
He even managed to clear the 200-page mark one month, though he said it damn near killed him.
And since Arakawa's put Juushin Enbu on hold since December, I'm pretty sure that she's been preparing for this for quite some time.
