Is anyone else getting the whole Naruto-Saskue vibe form Luffy and Ace….????
Thank god Oda made Ace a more fun-loving character when we were introduced to him because if he kept Ace on this Saskue route it would have only led to disaster

Decent chapter, but nothing special.
Porshemy looks awesome.
As for Ace, once a cunt, always a cunt.
Did he lost it in the battle against BB or they requised it at Impel Down?
It was last seen on Banaro island implying (symbolizing) that ace lost to BB. It was really the only cool thing about Ace.
I was thinking it's be nice if it found its way back to Luffy and he continued the story with two hats but now would be cool to see a 20 year old Sabo keep if he's still alive.

It fell into the sea and now some random hobo's wearing it while fighting crime.
@AdmiralYonkouMt.Bandit:

That and being made of fire and generally being fairly cool in his first appearance before all the wangst set in.

That was actually the first thing that came to mind but I didn't say anything 'cause someone was whining about naruto comparisons :ninja:
@Cyan:

I was indifferent to his introduction and I've read enough manga to the point that fire powers become less and less cool when the powers are usually the same old thing.
thanks dofla and aohige_ap again, reading opbbs version and waiting for better version of english scanlation
Haha, how funny would it be if we went on a Dragon Ball Route, and Ace's anger was cured with falling off a cliff, and came to as a happy child :)
Is anyone else getting the whole Naruto-Saskue vibe form Luffy and Ace….????
Yes, but people are too ashamed to say.
I see it more of a tagalong younger brother trying to hang out with the older brother.
Come to think of it, Garp didn't say they weren't blood brothers, did he? Looks like Luffy bought it.
Is anyone else getting the whole Naruto-Saskue vibe form Luffy and Ace….????
Yes right now I am, but at least we're not going to end up with some "I must be the one to fight him" shit…
Instead they'll become brothers over a drink and become pirates.
Read their whole release, and yeah, I'm pretty convinced.
I'm going back to the standards before the war arc: just doing spoilers and spoiler pics.
I love Luffy's nearly unflappable optimism!

oh dear, this is not good.
but I understand, perhaps can you release your translation after those major scanlation sites update their issue?
at least we can have a translation to compare with
Wow Fushia's Island (or it was in the RL?) is a dangerous place!
It's understandable Aohige. We'll just have to work Steven D. Teach like a slave.
Bloody Hell, this was sudden. Yay!

I don't think it'll be an issue really, considering how fast mangastream puts theirs out usually.
Their translations may not be entirely accurate, but they don't do snaky stuff like this, and respectfully do their own work.
And if there's any major inaccuracies, I can always comment on it (like missing a major plot point, which does seem to occasionally happen), and CNet's script is available a few days later as well.
Thanks for the raw and translation! ^_^
That's a real pity, Aohige. Your translations are among the best and those at Mangastream are so full of mistakes that are a pain to read.
We should be thankful you have been doing this until now, but everyone here is going to miss your full scripts.

Yeah you're right. I did like the idea someone mentioned where you released your translation a few days after the main scan teams do theirs and manga sites upload them.
If anything I know ppl on here use your translations for reference when discussing various topics.

I'm getting that from Ace and Luffy as well as the "why are we getting a flashback after all this," thing that Kishimoto did for Pain. I mean really, a flashback for Nagato after he's basically done? Of course, the difference is I trust this author more then those other guys, and we can believe that this plot won't be a complete waste of time.
As for the flashback, I brought this up a lot in the spoilers, but I'm not getting the death vibe here, at least not at this point of the flashback. It seems like a pretty lighthearted story so far. I mean, unless the Bluejam captain is a total badass I don't believe the doofuses holding Luffy now won't get trounced by Ace, Sabo, and Dadan's mob later. There's no looming threat right now.
Wow "Final Destination of Uncertainty" that's so deep… like if you don't have conviction in life you're going to end up living in a big pile of useless shit! Think about it!

You could just do a summary of the complete script when it comes out, describing the scenes, instead of translating every speech… This way they wouldn't be able to use it in their scanlations...

I do that anyways. When a script comes out, I point out what new info there is that wasn't in the spoiler summary from earlier.
I've always done it that way in the past, it's just the last several month that I made exceptions to do full script, because the war was so damn exciting.

You know what reminded me of Gray Terminal?
Remember in Rurouni Kenshin, when Kenshin became a broken man believing his second love had been killed, and wandered off into a slum full of trash, inhabited by bums? That place.

Oda was an assistant in Rurouni Kenshin afterall, maybe it indeed came from there.
Oh yeah! Poor Kenshin…. Okay okay maybe it parallels Luffy's state of mind now that Ace is dead... or I'm just grasping at straws.
i think that Sabo is most likely dead.
Honestly, Aohige, just count it as one more reason to avoid the long-ass scripts. Between the pics and summaries, and then pointing out any new info in the scripts, I think all the bases should be covered.
And the name Gray Terminal brings the idea of Purgatory to mind–although I'm not sure if there's really anything behind that other than me randomly associating it with that.
Luffy's comment about how Garp 'tossed him into a jungle before' reminded me of something. It's a small parallel to other events.
When Luffy first arrived on Amazon Lily, he commented about how it was like all those times Garp abandoned him in dangerous places. In the flash back Luffy says that living in the mountains wouldn't be too different. Before the flashback started Luffy found himself back on Amazon Lily (though not really aware of that), disoriented, and wandering through the jungle. Perhaps the overwhelming familiarity of the jungle setting coupled with the recent trauma of Ace's death is fueling this flashback. Luffy did spend a moment trying to destroy his surroundings, after all.
Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it and drawing connections where none exist.
Sabo better not die, because as much as I love Boa, he should be the next crew-mate. Just Imagine, the Strawhats run into a mountain bandit leader who just so happens to be on the run from someone and coincidently that ex bandit leader is Sabo.
Goes to fantasize over what will never happen
On a more serious note, I think people are to soon to bash Garp, over leaving Luffy with someone like Dadan.
I mean Dadan has to have somewhat cared for Luffy/Ace, I don't remember the chapter but I remember the Mayor of Luffy's town saying what would Dadan think of him now, and the mayor seems like a good judge of character for the most part. because if Dadan was as cold and heartless as she appears to be now why would she care what became of Luffy.
Though what Ace says at his death " I even feel nostalgic about a guy like him", makes it seem Dadan wasn't the greatest type of person.
My point being people are to fast to judge the Garp/Dadan situation.
I thougth Ace's behaviour was radical, but I realized that kids are cruel. Especially if you live in a place like Gray Terminal and people like Dadan raise you.

You know Oda says he doesn't think much about this kind of stuff and just writes One Piece for fun reading but maybe he's just like all the other super-modest Japanese people I've met. It makes me want to reread it all again looking for stuff like this!
I think Oda is doing "Manga Filler" with this flashback arc but Im totally cool with it, after about 30 straight chapters of pure Epicness and Major events, we are seeing a slow down period so that we can pick up the story in a couple of chapters from now and resume at its normal pace. I trust Oda to make these chapters decent and not to let the flashback go on for to long because I doubt anything of significant importance will come up….but then again it is Goda we are talking about so you never know
this chapter sucks. I'm waiting for the strawhats to appear forever
maybe I should stop reading OP as I did with naruto it seems going to the same direction, TO THE WORSE :(
Please Oda don't disappoint me
This chapter doesn't suck. I'm glad Oda isnt dissapointing me with this manga which is still interesting without showing the strawhats for a while. I'm going to keep reading OP forever as long as it continues FOR THE BETTER. :)
I wonder how Luffy survived the alligator attack.
Hawkins: No matter how many times I perform the calculation… The probability of Sabo's survival refuses to come out as "Zero".
Sabo will live on. Even Hawkin's card reading skills said so.

I doubt we will see them all 100% back together until about the end of this year, the start of 2011, to be frank. Unless he fast-fowards throught it, though.
Wow, this came out really fast.
Jeez Dadan, what a bitch xD

Is that the only reason you read the manga?
I'm actually kind of impatient myself, but the time will come, likely very soon after this flashback is over. The flashback in itself is interesting, I'm sure Oda has some purpose in it!

It's funny how some people think OP is going down the Naruto Shippuden lane just because Oda isn't showing the rest of the Strawhats for a long while.
Anyway, t'was a good chapter. Loved Luffy's mini-adventures with the gigantic animals. Sabo is awesome, hope he doesn't die and Oda shows him a badass later.)

If flashbacks and character development mean the series is getting worse, then One Piece has been getting worse and worse during the last 10 years. Indeed, when you ask the fans to list One Piece's top 10 best scenes, I bet at least half of them would be the flashbacks (Robin's, Franky's, Brook's, Chopper's, Noland's, etc. etc.)
I don't understand why people wants One Piece to fall into the same formula as other 500 shonen series (new arc, new boss, the gang of good guys kicking the boss' ass over and over, something along the Fairy Tail route) when it is clear that One Piece is superior to those because it tries so much to avoid such formula (in the long run, at least).
Most fans seem to expect straightfoward simple plot progression. Maybe that's why most fan predictions never come true.

lol, you are exactly right and it disgusts me when some ppl compare Naruto and Sasuke to Luffy and Ace, Luffy isn't going emo and Ace isn't some little bitch that is going through puberty and doesn't know how to handle it, if you don't like seeing the whole picture and getting to really know the characters and having full flashbacks that give so much detail, maybe you should change over to another manga. Its ok, some ppl just can't understand and fully grasp something so in depth as OP. This flashback has already reached the turning point so if your just getting impatient it probably will end the next chapter if not then the chapter after that, I'm one that is awaiting the SHs reunion but getting the main characters back story is easily a good enough reason for it to be put on hold just a little longer
The scene were Dadan talks about "that child and his devilish father" by the way, can be kinda misunderstood, don't you think? Perhaps Ace thought that Dadan was talking about him and not Luffy. And later Ace will find out that Luffy is in this sense is very much like him and they are on the same boat.

Wow, I didn't even think about that, probably because I didn't think she would know but its extremely possible and that would surely give them something in common to bond over, cuz from when Ace was in the cell we know that he knows about Luffy's father, still think its funny Luffy didn't even know he had a dad
i really find it funny how so many are hating on ace in this flashback. comparing stuff to naruto and so on. wtf
how come none are saying a word about luffy being weird as shit in wanting to follow him day after day when he hasn't said a word to you yet and ditched you. ace isn't all EMO, god i hate that word, he is a 10 year old boy going out everyday to meet his friend and rob people in order to get savings to pursue his dream with his friend.
then there is this kid 3 years younger than him bugging him everyday to be friends and trying to follow him and so on.
can you guys honestly tell me when you were younger if some littel kid 3 years younger than you kept trying to follow you around all the time you wouldn't tell him to shove off and leave you alone.
the only thing i really understood more in this chapter is Ace's feelings towards LUffy about how he says "I always have to look after my little brother, he is so careless and pretty much dumb." It showed that super clear in this chapter, that as soon as Ace does let Luffy become one of him that he really does have to look after luffy. day and day he was almost dying, getting saved at least once by people, and then just how stupid the situation with the bandit was. how the hell did luffy get caught? and then his horrible lying and just screeming out ace's name right away which is just stupid. yes i know he is 7, but again brings back point of ace always worrying about his careless little brother.
but whatever. people that hate ace will see any scene as half empty cup. i feel sorry for you guys, since you can't enjoy many parts of this sereis due to your baseless hatred of a character

well i woulnd't give Dadan any credit as of now. In this chapter we hear Dadan saying when luffy is gone for a week that they had already given up on looking after Ace and so who cares we'll just say luffy died in an accident or something.
and from this chapter, it seems pretty damn clear that the only thing they provided was shelter to sleep at night, a cup of water and a bowl of rice. i don't know what the mayor knows of dadan, he could be oblivious to her true nature as she seems to be hiding what they are doing from garp even.
but from this chapter i woudl compare dadan to hell lets say Harry Potters foster parents.

this is filler? A flashback that gives more background on characters is filler. Seriously? I hate you people.

yea it's really boggling. read a perfectly fine chapter and seeing over half the posts in the thread being about how One Piece is somehow the worst manga ever now because of this flashback that is giving more character background for at least 2 prominent characters in the series.
it really baffles me how much bleach gets hated around here. by reading posts i would think you guys were all huge bleach fans and had posters and figurines all over your wall and would worship kubo. he is your perfect non stop epic fighting manga guy. no side characters ignored, basically pure fighting between all big powers, the fights are seen fully and fleshed out, and even have some power ups for you that get triggered on anger scenes and stuff so begged for when stuff like Ace dying happens.
