I used to read Elftor when I was 14. It was funny for its time, but I've become so desensitized to stuff I can see why the author doesn't even update anymore.
That said, 8-Bit Theatre is still reigning king of webcomics in my mind, but I've noticed some recycled jokes and Clevinger's erratic updating, first by removing all his bonus material, then removing the dates, then removing the old archive to obscure when comics where added, all seem to suggest to me he's growing tired of 8BT alongside the main plot itself winding down.
I'm not sure why. Truly, his comic was so massively influential similar style comics with less broad appeal (I'm looking at you, Looking for Group) have sprung up and eroded his fanbase, but that comic not only made him who he is but also occupied a good 9 years of his life. It's almost like Toriyama disowning DB.
That said, HIKYM and Warbot in Accounting are not that great, especially the latter. HIKYM consistently strikes me as un-authentic, inspired more by Western perceptions of East Asians as depicted in pulp films, so I always get the vibe this guy has no idea what he's talking about, as opposed to a culturally informed author who may/may not be Asian and allow me to give him he benefit of the doubt.
Warbot is just bad. I mean, bad bad bad.
BUUUUUUUUUT
…
Atomic Robo is incredible, I've even got copies, it's pure Clevinger like 8BT was like in its prime and not only feels fresh but one can tell he's legitimately happy writing it. That limited edition Robo I wanted so badly. ;_;
I especially like how Robo's "sarcastic/witty" dialogue feels so horribly dated sometimes, with varying effects depending on the era he's snapping at villains in.
