Yeah Ben beckman failed… Why Oda? Why?
Chapter 580: "End of War" Discussion
-
-
but you can't bring in a what if scenario here when you're asking why akainu doesn't dare to attack shanks now.
I wonder if he has the guts to fight Shanks, even at full strenght.
I do belive this was the snippet i quoted, in which there is proposed a what if scenario where Akainu is at full strength and would he then dare to fight him.
Maybe i've unwittingly mislead you at some point, but this has been what i've been talking about the whole time.
firstly, akainu wasn't attacking with his ability when wb quake fisted him.
His logia defense should work regardless.
And to add to it, the other time that he struck him Akainu was fully aware of the attack and was even countering with his power and thus there are no excuses for why his logia defenses werent up.
in any case, wb never showed any sign of using h-haki throughout the war
Then are you suggesting that Whitebeard, who has king haki downgraded himself to using regular haki when he negated Akainu's logia powers? I mean obviously if it was haki that was used to make Akainu solid, Then it was king haki
since when any one uses h-haki, fodder start passing out, and that blast of energy thing is shown. nothing like that ever happened with wb
You are assuming that haki only has one function, and cant be applied in diffrent ways.
probably because he's old and dying, and had no will to go on. he had already accepted his death.
He literarly gave Akainu all that he had, everyone noted that he was pissed and you still think that he held back his king haki?
I mean come on
-
I wonder if people forget this arc take place within a few hours at the least. This sudden end is better than what others (aka the readers) could come up with.
-
Shanks ended the war… now the only question is... does he want me to save his face to my hard drive, or as wallpaper, or flash drive, or...
-
I do not love this ending, but I accept it as a good one. The only thing I have on my mind is Blackbeard. It just feels a little… weird that he just walks away with a laugh, just some chapter ago he was declaring that this was his Era. Well... apperantly not, you just chickened out and fucking walked away.
And, why, oh why, isn't the marines stopping him? They know that Shanks is there to help WB pirates, and then why the hell would he care if the killed Blackbeard? Argh. -
@robbybedfart:
Mostly its just too SUDDEN. I dunno, maybe a different display of strength from Shanks besides just reputation would have made it more impressive and appropriate, I dunno.
Yes, Akainu's ass was demanding a royal trashing.
-
When Luffy fought Croc during Alabasta, Croc asked Luffy if he was afraid of dying, and Luffy said 'No because everyone dies eventually.' Luffy may be an idiot, but he's also pretty mature in some instances. He might be sad, but he'll probably just move on with his life, with even more determination to become King.
It's not like Luffy is Sasfaggot, and would go rampage like a super emo after his brother died.
Oh I agree that he's not a 'Sasfaggot' as you say, but think about it. He DID just totally lose his mind now that Ace is dead, and if you remember that flashback, he made Ace promise never to die; which means he was really afraid of him dying. He knows that eventually everyone dies, but he's never actually had someone as close as Ace die right in front of him before. I know he won't stay depressed forever (it just wouldn't be Luffy if he did), but I think even Luffy is going to need some time to work this out.
-
So obviously the burning question in all this…
Does Moria get to keep Oars?
-
To be fair, both of their appearances were foreshadowed, people just didn't expect them to really show up.
It's not the same suddenly pulled out of ass, like say, "lol that was just illusion suckas". :ninja:
I'm not calling it a deus ex machina. I'm saying it was sudden. There's a difference.
-
And, why, oh why, isn't the marines stopping him? They know that Shanks is there to help WB pirates, and then why the hell would he care if the killed Blackbeard? Argh.
Shanks didn't say "marines, please stop beating on the poor Whitebeard Pirates".
He said put down your swords and guns, and stop this war RIGHT NOW.
That means attack from anyone towards anyone else.@robbybedfart:
I'm not calling it a deus ex machina. I'm saying it was sudden. There's a difference.
So your "sudden" isn't refering to sudden appearance of them, instead referring to the fast pace of the wrap-up, correct?
If so, perhaps "rushed" is more appropriate? -
Well the war had to stop some how, I was saying a while back that BB could sink the whole island but then that don't really matter since the fighting would still go on.
The marines had to stop fighting or they would gotten wipe out .
As for Akainu taking on shanks , i think some people are putting down shanks .
Not only Shanks is yonkou like WB , he not sick or dying , he has no wounds , he has H haki and he going to block attacks unlike WB who was looking for place to die.As much as marines still have they big boys so do the pirates , Akainu got pass WB commanders but everyone is still okay it seems.
Also shanks said he was going to kick anyone ass that was still going to fight , So anyone who was going kept on fighting would have to face him. I sure the everyone there knows how strong he is.
-
Definitely anti-climatic, but I think we're all glad this thing is finally over.
-
I'm not.
It was a very enjoyable arc.
-
Wow
a bit anticlimatic i must say but at least the war endsI think shanks isn't going to meet luffy in SA from the way he was talking
and we all know what hancock wants to doall in all wars been great
BB is a shook head though
why won't he face shansk and his crew
his crew haven't been fighting it should be a straight match up but i guess bb don't think he could be shanks just yet, i guess he wants to improve his df skills firstbenbeckman what did you do lol last chapter all don't move this chapter not a shot fired and kizaru is making attempts to kill luffy
Akainu is in the worst condition but thats becuase he's actually done things
mihawk beat fodder (i understnad why he didn't do more but still)
Kizaru and ajokiu did minor things throughout this not one of them attack wb successfully
Akainu though hurt showed some level destroyed half wb face killed ace(ffirst death) killed fodder marines killed fodder pirates plus another division captain took on the remaining wb crew still looks all gd nearly killed tobi that guy is too professionalmoria joke shichibukai getting 1 shotted by jembei
Kuma well i guess we'll see more of him in fishman arc
Flamingo like mihawk seemed to do jack all on screen i guess he did nearly fight croc
oh and cut of oz leg that was coolluffy did so much in this war but in the end did nothing but get himself hurt
i guess this was what nyon was saying about him being like a ant in a somethin i forget
luffy got tramppled but like and ant didn't seemed to diewell im happy just looking towards the future and while luffy recovers from some serious damage far more than ever hopefully luffy crew upgrade because at the very moment in time only Zoro and sanji would have been useful and thats only against some fodder marines under the rank of va rest of crew would ahve been killed
-

You are right.
It's stated that Whitebeard is significantly weaker than he once was. He would not have been stabbed by his own crewmate at his prime, this is stated, remember? Ace used to try and sneakily take his life constantly and Ace, though he lost to Blackbeard (who is standing against both Sengoku and Garp and who gave Shanks his scar without a DF) is no joke.
Squardo being able to stab WB was a demonstration of him being feeble compared to himself. A feeble WB is still a force to be reckoned with, as we saw, he was a monster.
Weakened Old White Beard clearly had the advantage in the 1v1 against Akainu, it was his other wounds taking a toll that stopped him.
Shanks has just stopped the attack that killed Portgas D. Ace and was intended to kill Luffy, casually like it was nothing and then announced that he'd arrived to stop the war.
He's clearly superior to that other Yonkou or he wouldn't even be at the island right now, either.
-
Looks like the only one that went unscratched this arc was Hancock. Also, looks like we'll see 2 shichibukai in Shabody. Bet the civilians will be shitting themselves again.
-
Anticlimatic ending but it was still a believable way to end it. Marines and BB are being setup as endgame villains. BB as the big SH pirate nemesis and the Marines when the big war arrives that comes from discovering the true about One Piece. Oda couldn't really have them fully fight each other and destroy themselves since it'll drop their rep some as endgame villains. Since the WB seem to be pretty much over unless they either make their own crews or get absorbed into other established crews Oda can basically have them get their ass kicked now.
The answer to that predicament was Shanks. You have a established force that if 2 Yonkou's joined would be a clusterfuck to the marines. He has already shown interest in this war since he did warn WB about Ace going after BB and Shanks did intervene when Kaidou tried to attack WB a day before. The marines were already spreading themselves thin while trying to attack while trying to maintain a war on 2 fronts. With Shanks there it would be retarded to try to start a war on 3 fronts with a fresh new Yonkou added. BB backed off since he already achieved what he wanted. Got his 2nd power and showed the world on TV what he was capable of. Last chapter he was talking about how he hasn't mastered WB powers yet and he's going to try it out on a fresh Yonkou. Would be stupid to do and knowing BB personality and his belief in fate. Shanks showing up and declaring a cease fire was a act of fate that maybe he should just stop while he is ahead.
It's going to be interesting to see where Oda goes next. He's did a cover with Coby, Helmpeppo and Tashigi. Which is weird since the non SH animal cover before was just Vivi and Karue. Does that mean those 3 are now honorable SH or does that mean he's going to randomly show more different group pairing with animals until the Where are they now? covers start or the actual cover story starts.
Will he spend the next couple of chapters with reaction shots to the war, finish up with the SHs stories until they arrive at where Luffy is recovering at or just jump ahead to when Luffy awakes with all of them there. It's going to be a long two weeks. Jimbei and Hancock for nakama are still possible since Jimbei hitched a ride with Luffy and Hancock is heading to see Luffy. Another interesting tibit is Sengoku saying that he'll let Shanks do the burial since it's him. Wonder what their connection is and since we didn't find out Croc's secret that's something that will eventually be brought up again.
-
Well for Kuma i'll say he'll return, in a Dragon-involved arc.
This kuma is dead thing was too easy.
Did i say something obvious right now ? -
I think its been a good way. First it was time to end the war. Second there are more ways to show the power of characters.
And i think this chapter showed how strong Shanks and his crew are and also as respected and feared the Yonkous are.
-
Another thing…THANKS THE HEAVENS ABOVE THIS ARC IS FINALLY OVER!
I don't care how anti-climatic it was, we are finally moving forward.
Dances
-
In the flashback to chapter 1 where Shanks gives Luffy his straw hat, the hat is MUCH bigger than it was back then in chapter 1.
Anyway, good chapter. The war finally ends. Which makes me even more curious for the next chapter because we all have no idea what will come next. Sabaody?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand no chapter next week. Damn Oda, you really know how to make us excited. (plz don't take this sentence out of context)
-
I'm sorry but with Zoro being the one supposedly destined to eventually beat Mihawk - if he did beat Mihawk then Zoro would be more powerful then Shanks.
As a person yes if Mihawk is more powerful than Shanks(which i doubt) but Shanks has a strong crew Mihawk doesn't. So it would still be more difficult for Zoro to win from Shanks.
-
I hardly have words for how epic this chapter was. Shanks, is, well everyone shut the fuck up for him. Hell I knew he was great, but to be able to do that with one arm? Wow.
-
Is Oda just doing this to please the readers?
We want Supernova!! Here's Law.
Where's Shanks/Dragon already!? Here's Shanks.
Ugh… This arc is dragging... Whatever. The end.Coming up; Jinbei, Hancock, Perona, Ace (revived), Mr.3, Mr.2, Buggy, Croc, Margaret, Coby, Shanks, Keimi, Hatchi, Banchi, Akainu, Cerberos BB MASS JOIN!!
And, of course, Dragon will suddenly jump into the already subsided war and pwn everyone.
-
So obviously the burning question in all this…
Does Moria get to keep Oars?
Hopefuly he'll take a page from Blackbeards book and make him into a killing machine/floating summer home.
-
Did beckman just fail ?
Don't move to Kizaru and then he moved…it's kizaru! come on guys .. did you really believe that he was afraid of ben? come ooo~~~n! ^^'' it's kizaru .. he would have behaved like that if a 5 year old child had threatened to throw a teddy bear at him! :ninja: even though this scenario is very .. unlikely …
-
Dunno for people here but for me the only thing that made me want to see this arc's end was the envy to see the SH's return.
Aside from that, a very nice arc with some of the most epic chapters we've seen so far.it's kizaru! come on guys .. did you really believe that he was afraid of ben? come ooo~~~n! ^^'' it's kizaru .. he would have behaved like that if a 5 year old child would have threatened to throw a teddy bear at him! :ninja: even though this scenario is very .. unlikely …
It is likely considering Kizaru .
Seriously, i didn't mean the guy was afraid but Ben could've…y'know...do something instead of...commenting ? -
Shanks ended the war… now the only question is... does he want me to save his face to my hard drive, or as wallpaper, or flash drive, or...
ahahaha this~~~ <3
(no, really, I'm not kidding: I can't decide which one of those shots would make a better wallpaper for me <.<)
-

I think he just wanted to do a different cover than always those Strawhat w/ animals motive. I mean he drew hundreds of those things, I bet he's kinda sick of them, so he just used Tashigi, Coby and Helmeppo. That has nothing to do with them being "honorable Strawhats"
the Marineford Arc was a nice experience for me. The Marineford was the very first arc where I really began following the spoilers and being excited every week what will happen next. It was the first time where I actually waited every week so a chapter comes out. The downside is that the chapters were usually really short, but therefore there was always something awesome going on in a chapter.
Speaking of short chapters, I wonder if Oda will continue the 16-17 pages per chapter pattern? Will this be till the end of One Piece? Or was this just for the Marineford Arc?
-
I can't believe that SHANKS can stop the war,
but He can't stop one stupid animal to eat his arm. -
-
The only thing wrong with this chapter is me. I dont fully understand why Shanks says: 'I am going to have you all save face for me'
He doesnt want the world to see ace and wb death body's any more? Why not? Why does sengoku listen to Shanks?
My english isnt good so if someone would like to explain thank you.
-
@De:

Yeah, you're the only problem in this chapter.
-
An average end to one of One Piece's best arcs.
-
Even though I would've loved to have Ben Beckman take on Kizaru (or shoot all the lasers away, since he is just that badass), he did the right thing. He did exactly what his captain was doing and that was NOT attacking. They were there to end the war, not to create more damage and deaths. So even though it would've been awesome for Ben to attack, it wasn't necessary.
-
I still can't believe that SHANKS lost his one arm cos some stupid animal.
me too!!!
same with the smoke bomb trick!!!
may be he was not youkoun back then? and weaker?
-
Yeah, you're the only problem in this chapter.
I tried to say that i liked this chapter a lot but that maybe because of me not fully understanding english I couldnt understand it.
-
@O:
me too!!!

10 years makes wonders on One Piece.

Ok!
Dutchie, right?
-
@O:
me too!!!
same with the smoke bomb trick!!!

I believe he's strong back then.
I remember reading mihawk used to challenge shanks when shanks still has both arms
And some character talking about shanks giving away his arm for new generation. So he can't be weak back then. -
@De:

That already was discussed on Page 4

Ok!
Dutchie, right?
Yes I am.
If you are Dutch too you should have known what I tried to say. -
Wow. Chapter's out? Dang, so fast. So fast….....
Thank you!
-
I believe he's strong back then.
I remember reading mihawk used to challenge shanks when shanks still has both arms
And some character talking about shanks giving away his arm for new generation. So he can't be weak back then.Who says that Mihawk was the World's Greatest Swordsman back then? For all we know he could've gotten the title sometime after Shanks lost his arm.
-
Somehow. I think its been foreshadowed that Red Hair Pirates will meet onece again Blackbeard Pirates and engaged into a battle. Looks like Red Hair gonna defeated in that battle.
-
That already was discussed on Page 4

I understand what he is saying I just dont understand why he is saying it and why sengoku is listening to him. And because of that i thought i misunderstood what Shanks said.
-
Who says that Mihawk was the World's Greatest Swordsman back then? For all we know he could've gotten the title sometime after Shanks lost his arm.
It not just mihawk.
I remember some other character talking about how shanks loosing his one arm. They just can't believe it. I can't remember who.
And since the beginning, shanks already use haki.Maybe he's weaker back then, but it still one stupid animal.
-
@O:
me too!!!
same with the smoke bomb trick!!!
may be he was not youkoun back then? and weaker?
Well could have been an attack of stupidity.
I mean when Luffy becomes Pirate King, people are going to be shocked that he once got stuck between two buildings, while his first mate got stuck in a chimney.
-
@O:
may be he was not youkoun back then? and weaker?
:getlost:
Of course he wasn't a Yonkou back then.
What does a Yonkou have to do in East Blue? -
It not just mihawk.
I remember some other character talking about how shanks loosing his one arm. They just can't believe it. I can't remember who.
And since the beginning, shanks already use haki. It's Whitebeard who talks about Shank's arm, when they both met after the Enies Lobby arc.
I see nothing wrong with Shanks losing an arm. Strength in One Piece is situational: Shanks was swimming and had to outswim a boat to save Luffy. Probably he did not arrive in time to just pull him out of there, so he gave his arm up to save the boy. He bet it for a new era.
And the smokescreen trick… well, Shanks clearly underestimated the bandit. He's not perfect, and probably became a lot wiser by the next ten years.
