I actually re-read the series about 2 months ago. Surprisingly the quality holds up just as good as when I first read it. It has just about everything I want in a series. Comedy, romance, drama, heartfelt moments, and overall ambiguous mystery. The action is just sprinkles on the cake, although I'm no fan of sprinkles.

Hoshi no Samidare box set.
All or nothing.
-
GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS.
MY BODY IS READY.
-
I hope Trigger doesn't lose their way when adapting this.
-
Is that really real? Not a fake? Right? RIGHT?
-
Looks fake to me…
-
yeah, to me too. usually these are announced with an article or something and these kind of edits aren't too rare either. Bleh.
-
Please, don't tease me like this.
-
It's a fake
-
Every single time somebody falls for it. If we got an announcement ANN, MAL and every good blog would scream in joy…..
-
Yeah, we'll got an anime of Hoshi no samidare right after this one…
-
It's 2013 and people still buy into fake anime season previews that have Fullmetal Panic sequels in them.
-
In an ideal world Studio Trigger has enough budget and manpower to finance both a HnS and an OPM anime…
-
I'm pretty sure the only legitimate adaptation on that list is JoJo. Come on, that picture for Samidare looks like the crappiest of DeviantArt fan art. Also, Hoozuki-san's adaptation has been announced since 2011 or so, and there has yet to be a single piece of concept art, so it's probably canned by now.
Basically, you riled yourself up for nothing. It's cool, though, at least the manga got licensed…
-
did you guys hear about the 2nd season of Nichijou?
and the 3rd season of Medaka Box?
and the adaption of Yotsuba&?
and the Soul Eater remake?
and the adaption of Voynich Hotel?because if so, I have a bridge you may be interested in buying…
-
-
Thank you, Arlong Park. I now know that hope is meaningless and life holds nothing but disappointment.

I heard that Miyazaki plans to finish Nausicaa's anime.
His retirement was a smoke wall.

Good, good. Give in to despair. Let it consume you. For we feed off your despair

YOU little… how dare you crush my hope with so much cruelty.

Just two more weeeks and Ototo release the last volume in French. No need of an other christmas present.
-
Okay fellas. It's almost here! And I already preordered! NEXT WEEK!!!
Also. I think the entire thing is on cruchyroll
http://www.crunchyroll.com/comics/manga/hoshi-no-samidare-the-lucifer-and-biscuit-hammer/volumesNot sure if it's sevensea's translation or not, but it's official?
-
Not sure if it's sevensea's translation or not, but it's official?
It's not. An employee (adam_omega) of Seven Seas frequents ANN's forums and stated it isn't related to them.
Some of the discussion can be found in the forum post from ANN's news story: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-09-28/crunchyroll-manga-adds-the-lucifer-and-biscuit-hammer-kippo-to-catalog/.79300
I in honesty forgot Seven Seas had licensed it. Gonna order it later today after I get off work. -
So there's two official translations? That's kinda neat. I'm looking forward to seeing the differences since it gives me another reason to read it agian.
Been reading the later tomes of the series on Crunchyroll, and I like them better than the scanlations since the esper explanation stuff is much more clear. I'm expecting SevenSea's to be much better, tbh. And the extra stuff I'm sure would be worth it.
I might not see my copy till the end of the following month tho. Amazon shipping is kinda wierd.
-
I feel really great that this manga has been released in Brazil. It was an unexpected surprise.
It's already on volume 5.
-
So how are the new double volumes? I'm thinking about picking them up. Are the translations and quality good?
-
Oh man, every time I see movement in this thread I hope for an anime.
-
Isn’t there more chance for an animation of one of his 2 ongoing series ?
-
A man can dream though. A man can dream

@Elektrik:
So how are the new double volumes? I'm thinking about picking them up. Are the translations and quality good?
It's a great translation, if not with some little nitpicks. There's one line that I thought was more effective on the scans. When Yuuhi says, "In this story of the planet's destruction", he says "This story of smashing planets". I assume this version is more direct and literal without much liberties, but I feel it's not strong in delivery. Another thing was a couple of panels… They didn't translate "Thanks for the meal" for some reason. Aside that, the translation is really consistent with addressing Sami as "the lucifer" rather than things like demon or devil. And I don't know if this was previlant in other scans, but Sami has this really toboyish/rad way of talking. Don't know how to describe it, but it's... cute?
Quality wise. It's really amazing seeing the art printed face to face without the filtering on scans. And it looks great on my bookshelf next to the Scott Pilgrim collection :3 Definitely recommend any fan to pick it up. And definitely recommend forcing this down the throat of your random anime fan friend as a gift for Christmas. They might thank you!
-
I picked up the 3 volumes released and WOW! I've forgotten how much I love this series!
How is there not an anime or at least more publicity on this series? I mean it's been finished for 5 years and theres been no talk of any studios picking it up for anime? Like not even an OVA? bizarre

Unless some anime stuido exec is a big fan of the series and sees market potential, the chances are pretty much hopeless.
The manga never broke even a million in total sales.(Ushio to Tora that just got animated after being neglected for like 20 years, sold over 20 million copies)
-
I heard from a source that Satoshi made a pitch to Gainax years ago and almost got his wish… only to spend too long processing paperwork to license is one band(Pillows) to do the music like he requested. In result, Panty and Stocking took its spot.
Like I said, I'm not sure how valid this source is or where I heard it from.
-
Just finished another reread of this simply amazing series. Still brought tears to my eyes on multiple occasions… What a great story!
"My love towards the world grew and multiplied more and more. I didn't want the last battle to come. I started to wish... for these days to go on forever."

Are you reading Sengoku Youko?
I'm not, but I'm going to check it out right away, now that you mention it. Thanks!
-
That last chapter, those last words.
-
The final english volume of this series came a few weeks ago, and Im a little bummed it's outright missing two really good pages in one of the final chapters. It's a bit strange, especially considering how good the release has been, despite some of the really questionable translation choices in the dialouge(there's some I obviously do like better in the scanlations)
Aside that, it feels nice to finally own the whole set. Seven Seas may not pick up Satoshi's other works due to BH not selling as well as they hoped, but I'm kinda hoping another publisher picks up either Spirit Circle or Sengoku Youko.

Check out Spirit Circle too if you haven't already.

Are there differences between the Crunchyroll and Seven Seas translation? Did Seven Seas translate the Bonus/epilouge chapter?
-
Yes. They are completely different translations, and honestly. Seven Seas was pretty upset when they heard about a few months before releasing the first volume. I find the Crunchyroll version the worst one, despite it being cleaner and maybe more consistant than scans.
And no worries. The bonus chapter is included at the end.
-

Wait pages are missing in the volumes???

Just the final one. I'm not sure if it's my copy or a print error in general, but there's a couple missing in chapter 56. My favorite one specidfically where Sami decks the last golem in the face… giving literally half of a 2 page spread. I'm gonna probally contact Seven Seas about it again, but I'm not sure how much they'd care :T

Oh wow yeah i see it in my volume now too when I cross referenced it online. fortunately they aren't really important pages with dialogue or anything. Kinda unfortunate though, something must have went wrong when printing
-
Would either of you care to post pics? I haven't been able to buy any of the volumes yet
-

The missing pages are this page from chapter 56:
!
and the left side of this double page spread from the same chapter:
!
instead the pages are simply blank. Not a big deal, but certainly unfortunate
-
I check the French version and they are ok. The only problem i have is that thepaper does not seem of good quality and the side becomes a bit yellow. And the double covers are coo but they didn’t succeed in boosting the sale so I have very few hopes Sengoku Youkou will be translated one day (unless miracle happens and it get animated)
-
Yeah, The missing pages aren't a huge deal compared to the huge chunk of an almost perfect release.
But that punch. And how it's supposed to match up when flipping to the next double spread… it's so good. Atleast the hammer punch is still intact. It's amazing seeing the page transitions with that one!

I would say it is a misprint - the pages are included in the crunchyroll release

That's not Seven Sea's release and it's an entirely different translation and license.
-

I m well aware of that. Those two pages are in the middle of the chapter of the volume release (if those pages were only in the mag it might be a different story) I would say it is a misprint. There is no reason that Seven Seas removed those pages intentionally. My argument is just that Crunchyroll released the volumes (and not the magazine veriosn) and they have an official license which leads to believe me it is a misprint. YOu said yourself that those pages are blank
