Who knows. After School of the Dead got one, I can believe in anything.
Gianax please?

Bringing back up the topic agian. I needed to say something.
I have read manga that uses healers, but most never come to be anywhere near as convenient as the Owl Knight in this one. I was pondering to myself why. Is it because he constantly used his power to assist his allies in battle? It sorta felt like those real-time RPGs where healers would constantly remain at duty until they are either silenced or are out of mental power.
Wendy in FT sorta does this too with buffs in battle and I don't really mind, but I hate the fact that she's sometimes driven into the nurse stereotype(though she does not act helpless and weak). In Naruto, Sakura's role as a healer is downright terrible. Even deeper into the abyss for Orihime in Bleach. Their healing powers are never reliable in dire situations(only after).
Some of you may be wondering what's my point, but I'd really like to say… This manga really changed my perception of the healer role in shonen.
Yeah, I feel that in Biscuit Hammer, people actually USE their abilities. Like, if they have a best move, they spam it over and over again. You know, like people actually do in games where they have a best move.
and I second the notion of a Gianax anime.
i'd actually prefer madhouse or something. has gainax done any manga adaptations since kare kano? i just feel like they'd end up ditching it halfway or doing some really weird take on huge chunks of the plot.
did I read it wrong? i think maybe i did… like... why is she there at the end. wtf.
i hate cliff hangers like that especially when the story's done with for ever. is there a part two that I'm missing here? O-o
I started this on TLC's recommendation. I'm not really interested right now (chapter 1), but hopefully it'll improve really quickly.

What do you mean? You read all the way to chapter 65, yes? That - that's pretty much an excellent ending. Unless you somehow stopped early, I don't see how you could be confused.
OK, this is starting to get awesome. I vow to stop for today at Chapter 10 no matter what though.

That page is the announcement of the last, 65th chapter. Everything is done and finished.
It's good to always be skeptical.
Am I the only one who really doesn't like the insane kid? That's not to say I'm a gigantic fan of Yuuhi, who is kind of whacked in the head even though he is one fantastic mofo, it's just The Princess is just as whacked as he is, and I'm afraid of some popular guy NTR happening.
Also, the older brother. ;_;
! It was hinted at mere pages before it happened, but I didn't really think it was going to happen because of all the promises typically made when a chracter doesn't die. Like, Ludo promising Yuuhi to spill the beans, the older brother saying he was going to train Yuuhi, etc.
! Quite the subversion. Rather than a total surprise, I was getting mixed messages so I didn't quite know how it was going to turn out.
LOL I'm dumb. I read up to " the last battle " on a site but that's all they had, but I found the rest. yay <333
People complain about no-one talking about this series, and I guess it's true…here I am wanting to talk about it but none of the veterans want to join in. It's all your fault, anyway.
At the half-way point. I struggled going at a faster pace because the translations SUCK. I feel too much time is being spent on documenting the knight backgrounds, though. It all seems irrelevant in the big picture.
ehh, in the end, I really appreciated actually having a reason to care about each and every knight. It made the ending really satisfying.
and by half-way point, you mean you're about where Anima shows up?
Chapter 40 or so.
My beef with the characters is they have really simple motivations or backgrounds that could be inferred simply by observing their actions, so the chapters feel like filler. There are cool dudes like the Swordfish Knight and the Dog Knight with GREAT backstories, and then we have ones like the childhood friends (who feel like a pair ripped from Muv-Luv) with an absolutely boring/predictable one, and that of the Owl Knight.
I was originally approaching Biscuit Hammer as a visual novel, i.e. I'd proactively try to anticipate the puzzles and mysteries, but unlike in real VNs each correct forecast has disappointed me (like how the Unicorn Knight appeared - I totally called that way back when all 12 Beast Knights were introduced) so I'm just kicking back and letting things go.
I'm of course most interested in Yuuhi and Samidare, and I really want to see their subversion subplot succeed. It was an awesome pretext in the beginning, but to the reader given all the information presented, it seems almost petty given that the knights don't have a great track record against The Mage.
I also what to know who the fudge the Knights really are, because while it's obvious where The Mage came from it's not as clear as why the Knights are here, why they seem to care about saving the world, where their wish-granting powers come from.
Something that bugs me -
! What happened to the horse's horn? It disappeared immediately following the 8 Eyes Golem fight.
Well, I didn't see the twist to childhood friends' story coming, but maybe that's just me.
and I think the legendary knights trio don't always have to be in their form. They revert to their original form when not in battle.
Looks like it.
What bothered me was Hanako, who made what struck me as an utterly retarded wish that didn't really make any sense with what was pre-established as her character, or with her character post-Tarou. We got a lot of good development for Tarou, mostly after the fact, but Hanako came off as completely flat and uninteresting. Yeah, I understood she was a shell, but I didn't want to spend four chapters on her being a shell, because she didn't change much after defeating 9 Eyes Golem.
I've got a random idea as well…perhaps 12 Eyes Golem is the biscuit hammer itself? I also think that Yuuhi won't become a Mythical Beast Knight, he'll become a Demon Knight or something that exists outside of the four hard hitters.
I guess that's true… Now that I think about it, I didn't give a damn about Hanako. I mostly cared about Tarou, and how it was bogus that he committed his life to someone so lame. made me feel even sorrier for him.
I just finished Chapter 49.
BRICKS! Wow, this is really exciting. I'm not sure what is going on exactly, but it's really cool!
This series has it all, man.
Glad you decided to pick it up!
I'd have more to say, but it's been a pretty long time since I've read the series. It only gets better!
I take full credit for hooking Terek to this awesome series:)
Alright, I finished it up.
It was very, very good. I'm hesitant to call it best ever, as there were some gripes I had while reading and I'm not completely satisfied with the conclusion, but this satisfaction is due to subjective taste and objectively I can say that the story was built up in such a way that the character endings were fully fleshed and believable.
I personally would have preferred an oblivion end, with a tragic ending. I feel those endings are perhaps the most memorable as they are commentaries on stuff about people, nature, math/language or something. I also feel that for a "fate of the world" kind of story, it's not truly over until the main character dies. It's because the epic battle they participated in define their lives after the event, and said lives might be hollow/empty in comparison. In this sense, while the ending was fully developed and acceptable, it's not what I wanted to see, deep down.
Major gripe is the cast was too large and mismanaged. Too much time was spent on the backstories of characters relegated to minor roles, like Swordfish Knight's two disciples. Some minor plot details like the source of the Akaishic Records and the existence of precogs actually made me curious about the series' future, leading to the scenario that created Anima and Animus.
A majority of the plot twists were within the pool of ideas I'd outlined fairly early in the story, but some came out of nowhere, but were totally foreshadowed. I like that, though with my VN experience I sort of wanted to get beaten/bruised more by the author.
Ultimately, I didn't find most of the fights interesting to pay much attention to the details, and it was actually sort of tough to follow the individual Domain Control nuances.
I felt Animus was actually a very well constructed villain, even if his true character was straightforeward, the subtle hints from the beginning, the company he kept and the people he tried to recruit, the 11 Eyes Golem and finally his history all did a great job of building him up as a peverse all-powerful mad scientist to breaking him down as an infantile demigod. It's more satisfying a development than Jon Irenicus got in Baldur's Gate II, so I was quite pleased with how it went.
Overall, though? Exceptionally solid, easily an "Excellent" (8/10) rating from me. It doesn't feel like an "Outstanding" title though, in the sense that I could recommend it to anyone and they'd instantly love it. It requires some patience and flexibility on the part of the reader, and so really inelastic guys or people who've seen tons of anime might not appreciate it to the fullest. But a good experience nonetheless.
returns to Yuukyuu no Shounenshoujo
good to hear you liked it!
and I guess while I can totally respect you wanting a tragic end, I personally like things with happy endings, or at least bittersweet. so the ending made me giggle with happiness and stuff.
I think one of my favorite parts was Yuuhi's ordeal and climb up the stairs. Also the righteous unicorn drill kick.
I also liked how the powers are used like how real people would use them. For example, the team healer just spams heal every turn, instead of waiting until everyone's on the brink of death. and everyone goes all-out from the beginning, unless they had a really good reason for hiding their true strength.
so overall, very good, and an example of a manga that knows exactly where it's going, and how it wants to get there. Everything works. Polar opposite of rambling wrecks like Naruto.
makes me happy other people are enjoying this.
Just finished chapter 2. I am hooked.
Good. You won't be let down by this manga.
Just finished chapter 14. What a heartbreaker.
I love absurdist fiction in literature and this certainly has a tinge of that flavor. This is like no other manga that I have ever read (not that I am very well seasoned in manga yet) but needless to say I am enjoying the piss out of this.
Thanks to a reccomendation from Silence, I powered through this. The first 20 chapters didn't make the biggest fan out of me but by the end, I really enjoyed it. Such great character development.
! Still pissed the mouse dude died though. I really liked him. I hate when the most lovable characters get the axe.
It's just a very complete manga, isn't it? It has a setting, and a goal, and (astonishingly) it accomplishes everything it sets out to do. Every character gets attention, we see them train when it's necessary, and we see them relax or grieve when it's a good time to. You never get the sense that they're getting off easy because of the carefully established rules. A story well told.
! And yeah, man. That was rough. Especially when you thought that just for a moment, you'd lose both of 'em. ):
And it needs an anime SO BADLY.
Why is it every time I really really get into something the discussion ran its course a year prior?
Anyways, I really, really loved this series. And it so desperately needs a good anime adaptation.

I feel the same way, which is why I'm glad One Piece (which I only started reading a year ago) is a series that's not going to end anytime soon.
And I agree, this series is in desperate need of an anime adaptation.
Thanks again to Hiroy for the recommendation…
Well, if anyone that wants to discuss, the main reason that I love this series: almost all of the characters develop naturally in an unexpected way.
! The Fat Smart Guy with Glasses? Yeah, he ends up one of the best warriors, perhaps the most heroic figure, and ends up with the "hot girl."
! The Fight Nut with Spiky Teeth? Actually one of the kinder characters and has perhaps the best character moment of the series.
! Main Character with Tragic Background? Starts getting rid of it ten chapters in and works like hell to actually be the hero he needs to be at the end.
! Super-Emo Young Kid that Doesn't Mind Seeing the World End? Wearing Hawaiian shirts at the end.
Plus a really lively artstyle and some great humor. Translations that I read were iffy–would totally buy this entire series if they released it in the states--but there's just so much personality. And as was said in another thread, one of the most satisfying endings ever attached to a manga.

Why Gainax never picked this up I will never know, it all seemed so right.
since realising it had been a year since I read this series i decided to go back and reread it. I was curious how it would hold up upon second reading, and was glad that i enjoyed it just as much if not more than the first time. This is quite frankly the most solid manga I've ever read, and reading it through just reiterates all of my impressions from the first time. there honestly isn't a wasted plot line in this whole manga even off hand references and seemingly joke plots like Magic marry and Parrot man were used in an awesome way. the main difference from my first reading that i noticed was that i liked all the characters from the start, were as the first time around i disliked Yuuhi and Mikazaki but they eventually grew on me. I guess the main difference is that i had already read the series so i knew that a main plot line was them becoming adults slowly as the series progressed, so i could sit back and enjoy it tho time around. i also really enjoyed the power system, and how each individual used a seemingly unique generic power in an interesting way.
and on a final note little kid Samidare is the cutest fucking thing ever.
Sami is the cutest thing ever, period.
Once some more time passes, I'll also be giving this series another read…
I don't know why I like Mikazuki so much, but damn me if he didn't rocket up my favorite characters list
Maybe it has something to do with him using his wish (one that would've granted him pretty much anything) to feed a hungry little girl? I know that earned him major points from me…
That scene made me DAWWWWWW so hard.
I felt like jumping into the comic book and giving him a hug.
Or a high five.
Or maybe a big hetrosexual hug.

That was probably the best scene of the whole manga. Plus Mikazuki ends up being, unlike most fight addicts in manga, one of the kinder characters overall, taking all the youngsters from the team out for meals and the like. He's not especially complex, but he's not one-note, either.

i didn't originally like him due to him appearing to be a one sided fight maniac, but gladly i was wrong and he turned out to be a really interesting character, he seems simple but thats because he functions purely on instinct.
Non-sequitur, but I love this panel. How is the Princess feeling today?

It still gives me goosebumps.
Where is the Hangetsu love everyone?
!
I 100% agree this series NEEDS, notice I said NEEDS an anime, it's that good. Even if it's a short OVA.
Just finished. I don't think I've ever read a series as oppressively perfect as this one. The end especially was manga dynamite.
I started readin it yesteday and, man, it is a really good manga. I read the first 15 chapters and I just want to read it all right now, althought I don't have the time :(
One of the best mangas I've read. It starts out a bit slow but after that it's a hell of a ride.
Noi is adorable. :3
Just finished reading it. Man… I... I... ;_____;

I'm glad I was able to catch these response. Priceless.
And I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you :)
I'm still a little confused about Anima and Animus' nature. I mean, they're humans, right? So, how come they have those god-like abilities?
Hm… I hope I didn't forget something.
They're humans who were born with godlike psychic powers.
