At which point did it show up?
New official Viz media topic V2.

Krieg fodder talking to him about Mihawk: "If the man wants to go, for the love of God, L-LET 'IM GO!!"

Yeah, it's there. Mine is a first printing, so maybe they might've fixed it in later printings. Let's not also forget it was printed back before Viz merged with ShoPro, and they were able to get away with a lot more back then.
-
Yeah can someone confirm if it's in a later printing?
-
I have a fourth printing, and they use the exact same line.
-
Great…..
and i just bought 2 in japanese
HLJ shipped my Colour Walk 3 last week. Still hasn't turned up though.
Doesn't Buggy call himself "God of the Pirates" in one of the early volumes?
-
He does indeed. He also gets to go ''Damn straight!!''.
-
I loved that line so much. XD
-

That must've been volume 2 when Buggy thinks Luffy's dream is ridiculous.
-
Man VIZ really isn't consistent.
-
Man VIZ really isn't consistent.
Viz is like Kaizoku-Fansubs, you really don't know what to expect and what to hear from them.
-
There's a difference between using God briefly and out-and-out calling yourself a literal god for the entireity of a lengthy arc. Plus, Viz seemed much more lenient prior to the introduction of the 4Kids dub.
But let's not get into that minefield again…

There has actually been three different translators for One Piece, the first translator was Andy Nakatani from Animerica who did the first five volumes; Naoko Amemiya for volume 5-10; and then JN Productions/Michie Yamakura for volumes 11 and up. Nakatani's translation was the best IMO.
I don't have the speed up volumes yet, but if somebody can check it, they list the translator on the staff credit list on the first page behind Oda's comment page. It probably explains the new differences in translation due to someone else handling it. -
It's still JN Productions handling translation. The editor's different though. Vol. 12 reads Yuki Takagaki, Vol. 14 is Urian Brown, and Vol. 24's is Yuki Murashige, for instance.

I only have the Omnibuses and vol. 24, but I thought starting with Volume 5 it got better (besides the font used in Introduction boxes, but the normal font was nicer, but that has nothing to do with the translator ). I thought Vol. 24 was translated pretty good, besides Robin saying that Cricket is the island "Weirdo"..

"Real Ponegliff" was in volume 24 too.
-
Oh, yeah, I forgot that. Yeah that was also stupid.

Unless it's actually Real instead of Rio.

Yeah, that was a really weird part between volumes 3-5. I guess he was alternating between himself and Naoko Amemiya on translating, as volume 5 was still using Navy and Marines interchangeably at the end of the Kuro arc, which was what Nakatani did from the beginning. After that, we started to get a lot of pseudo swearing on the Baratie arc with Amemiya's translation, like Bilge Rat. As for the lettering, it seemed to change frequently a lot, volume 3 had Bill Schuch and Walden Wong; volume 4 had Bill Schuch and Wayne Truman; volume 5 had Wayne Truman and Mark McMurray; volume 6 had Mark McMurray; and volume 7 had McMurray, Josh Simpson, and Wong.

Shit… That isn't good. I hope the next one will be better...
-
10 is still good '^_^
But yeah who knows, maybe sales may increase during or after next week?
-
When having the word 'God' or 'Hell' printed in a volume is considered a stunning victory, something is seriously wrong.
I think some of you guys are losing perspective here. -
I remember when things like that were stunning victories in FUNi's DBZ dub.
-
Or the minor things found in Funi's OP dub :ninja: "Oh yes! Sanji said shit! Let's have a big party!"
Let the fans be fans dan. If you have a problem, then leave… unless you have something to say about the volumes.
-
Yes you know it! 29-33 SHIPPED today!
-
Im currently talking to someone who thinks the Viz volume is a "Perfect" translation to the japanse and is unedited etc.
Is there any examples i can say that he's talking crap?
- Not including Zolo but is there any other name changes?
- Art edits not including roguetown
- Not correct translations?
- Or anything like Kami.
Isnt meant to be a hate thing i do like viz and do buy the manga just want to show that it isnt exactly perfect. or am i in the wrong and its the best it can be?
Also i'll be buying 23-33 when the 2nd batch is released

The error with Luffy's bounty -
It's not a perfect translation, but it gets the story across. Almost anything that is bought overseas is likely to suffer from minor to major differences from the orignal.
-
yea of course i was just looking for some examples that where pretty bad if there was any. I'm quite happy with the OP translation as you said aslong as it gets the story across.

You can talk about the ship name.

@Kairouseki:
The error with Luffy's bounty
When was this? .
-
In Little Garden Ms. Valentine said something to the effect of ''I can't believe that he's worth 30 million berries'', but they typoed and put 300 instead.
-
Alright, thanks.
-
Ok, so obviously we have been able to push One Piece finally to get it noticed and having funimation and viz to push it out finally.
Yaaaay, that's cool and all, but when I went to pick up my orders of one piece novels I noticed a few things… and I'M getting ALITTLE PISSED off about it.
Now starting 24 they upped the freaking price by 2 bucks, which WOULDN'T BE a problem, but what the hell si the extra 2 bucks for?
Number 23 was 7.99 and it was 10 chapters, now the 24 and 25 have been only 9 chapters, yet it cost more? So now it's smaller, yet I'm paying 2 bucks more? What the hell?
Not only that, but for christ sakes if your going to charge us more, at least translate is properly.
Oh come my WAY?! WTF is that? IT"S OKAMA WAY DAMN IT!
Noland? DOflamingo?Teech?... NORLAND, TEACH, AND DONFLAMINGO I MEAN IN ONE FRAME THEY ACTUALLY SPELL IT RIGHT! Then go right back to miss spelling it.
Still Zolo? Seriously get some balls, if I'm sure that their are hundreds of clark kents out there and I'M sure they do not have to their names cause a comic book character has the same name....
And to add insult to injury... SHIPMATES?! .. Bangs head on desk It Bang is bang NA bang KA BANG MA!! BANG!!
How hard is that? For those who are like quiet weeaboo, blow me, so I want to respect another places culture and language, nakama does NOT mean the same thing damn it, NAKAMA means more then just shipmate, partner, or comrade, it means even more then friend and family, SERIOUSLY it's even less characters, why is it that hard to do?
Sad sad fans have to be convince that their isn't a culture out side of the US, that's the american way it seems.... we at like we care and have freedom, but were nothing, but one giant censorship it's so said.
They could EASILY add a part in the back like they did in Ruorouni Kenshin where they explain what each word means, when they mess it up they ruin and intensely emotional scene.
So might I ask again WHAT THE HELL AM I PAYING MORE FOR?!
Cause it sure isn't for more content that properly translated :(
It seems to be less with the most piss poor translation pussies ever..
And my rant is over... I'm sorry...
-

Nakama! Oh how I love that that term is no where to be found! Why not just print out the fan scans, and put in the words you like best?
-

Bangs head on desk When Bang will bang weeaboo bang fans bang drop bang the bang weeaboo bang bang terms bang bang bang and bang learn bang bang to bang speak bang bang bang English? bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang

Shipmate is a suitable translation for nakama; more news at 11.

I'm an idiot. Look at my long logic killing rant.
Who the fuck are you?
If you're going to complain then at least get your information straight. Noland is a correct romanization and it actually makes more sense seeing as when he got back there was no land. You have an argument with Teach though. Doflamingo is correct. As I've heard, de is usually transliterated as do in Japanese for some reason. Besides. Besides, the katakana is straight forward, ドフラミンゴ.
Zolo has to do with Shueisha trademarking it, not because of Zorro. And leaving Japanese words in an English translation is incredibly lazy and there's no reason whatsoever to do it. It's just a fucking word. Rurouni Kenshin could get away with using Japanese words since it's supposed to take place in Japan. At least it makes a little sense.
Now I kindly tell you to get the fuck out of this thread with your fractured logic.
-
If you hate the slightly mistranslated names in the Viz version, then the only option left is the Onemanga scans. And we all know how great they are with translating names right.

Lol, this has GOT to be the shittiest thing I have ever read in this thread.

Ironic. You were just complaining about how you DON'T want a word to be translated. Haha, what the fuck is wrong with you?
-
Bangs head on desk When Bang will bang weeaboo bang fans bang drop bang the bang weeaboo bang bang terms bang bang bang and bang learn bang bang to bang speak bang bang bang English? bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
What this guy said. Although I prefer "crewmates" over "shipmates" but that's just a personal thing.
-
Geez, I thought everyone could guess why the price went up, as the crappy economy isn't exactly brand-spanking new news. Not just One Piece either, it's up all across the board.
The rest of that doesn't deserve touching.
-
Kairouseki made me laugh my ass of.

Then my work here is done.

….Is it sad that I just finally got that right now?

Was that a suicide note?
