@MagneticMonkey:
This chapter is the pinnacle of all that. Now if luffy and ace get away like that it would be so damn lame. Come on kizaru and aokiji were able to take marco and joz down.
Only because they were distracted.
@MagneticMonkey:
Why are the Vas showed just standing there? Why is sengoku standing there cursing about failing to kill ace with one blow?
Again time issue, you don't know how much of it has actually passed.
@MagneticMonkey:
Why did this chapter make the marines look like they're shit?
What fodder acting like fodder is making them look like shit?
@MagneticMonkey:
No. But Oda picked Aokiji because it's the only admiral ace would have a chance to block with his fire. Any other would have made luffy at least struggle. While Ace would be able to evade kizarus or akainus attacks luffy would have to run away from huge explosions. That's what i expected.
No, Oda picked Ao Kiji because he knew that at least half the fandom wanted to see a fire vs ice match-up the moment Ao Kiji was introduced in Water 7 and how there was probably never going to be another opportunity. Given that both the first division commander and the third can use Haki and given Ace's comment of "you too" which could be referring to himself I think it's highly probable he can hit logia types like Kizaru.
@MagneticMonkey:
That bugs me while the other marines are busy either standing there watching the chaos generated by those 2 pirates (akainu, momonga, sengoku etc…) or actually busy being off panel (kizaru). It's not hard to see why we're disaapointed.
Actually it is. You're bitching over trivialities.
@MagneticMonkey:
This chapter makes it so obvious that the marines have broken powers and that Oda had to come with a reason (choose aokiji attack a fire logia while the 2 others are ignored) to let luffy and ace escape.
What's obvious is your lack of story comprehension. You're basing all your crap on the actions of fodder and an unknown scale of time.
@Bucephalus:
God, are people still freaking out about this chapter?
This all comes down to two things: Oda being a mediocre writer and the restrictions he has on him due to this being a Shonen manga.
Oda has never shown himself to be a fantastic writer, but he manages to make the series enjoyable by implementing relatable characters and decent art. If he actually was a good writer (and yes, this does tie in with the second point), he would have done something more interesting, like actually executing Ace, or having the admirals all beam/lava/ice spam Ace and Luffy as soon as they were free.
But, of course, he has certain limitations on him since it's a shonen manga; he can't just go around killing popular characters.
This chapter did sorta blow, but it's most just because actually having a realistic war is apparently completely out of Oda's field of thinking. To be pretty honest, I think this entire arc was dull, and dragged on too long. Let's just get WB killed and move on to the next arc.
I love how all the "ACE MUST DIE" fags are already shitting on Oda's writing skills even though it would have been mediocre writing if Ace HAD died.
I love this gem though.

You don't even know what a realistic war is. All you have is some mish-mashed idea generated by exposure to different media. Just because Oda had a different idea of what makes a war doesn't make his ideas any less valid.
