Argh! They played Shuraiya vs. Needless again for the first time in ages! I friggin' hate that song with a passion!
Anyway, I guess that was as decent a conclusion as any that we were going to go at this point. I did actually like the animation for the Luffy vs. Largo fight, and how they kept changing location throughout. The effect of Largo's face randomly turning into a net while Luffy was using Jet Gatling was nice, and I couldn't help but wince when Luffy popped him, 'cause that was skin. As far as filler villains go, I at least thought that Largo was fun to watch. Colt and the rest of the Amigo Pirates sucked the big one though, and I thought Colt's last attack was really stupid.
The conclusion was rather cliche, but I did like how Boss subverted the worthy opponent one by insisting that he won. Nice seeing Tate redo some stuff from the Arlong arc, and was sind of surprised that they actually drew stab wounds instead of just the mass of blood that's normally used in both the anime and manga. I guess it was cool seeing Nami take charge of the situation and showing her along with the heavy-hitters Sanji and Zoro during the DA-DA-DON!! shot, though I was kind of expecting her role in this arc to be more involved, seeing as the plot of the movie as far as Luffy and the Straw Hats go revolve around her. I guess Usopp is chopped liver, at any rate.
Long post short, mediocre filler arc, half-decent finale, thanks to Tate's work. The scene with Shiki at the end was pretty cool for the fact that he and his two henchmen actually made real-time appearances, but it's going to suck that we won't be able to see the movie for a long while.
