4 episodes for three chapters…?
If you look at some of the early war chapters, it's not that surprising. There are a lot of spreads that would be very expensive for them to try to animate, so they'll be forced to go to more than a chapter per episode for a while. I hope they don't do it all in still form like the Arabasta war was, but I have a feeling that they will. Since there's little room for filler outside of more Edo episodes and a few random added scenes, they have to stall for time as much as they can while they have the chance. Since there's a large break in the action, this is as good a chance as any.
Yeah, it covers 4 chapters. That's what I get for not looking for myself.
Episode 339 and 440 both seem to be based on chapter 538.
And Toei still has SH adventures to animate. That's the best kind of filler.
just look at the upcomming chapters. holy crap is there a LOT of text. i doubt it will seem slow at all. plus with new areas of the
! newcamm 5.5 level and showing of what the other jailors are doing while he is healing and showing shiryuu's flashback, they can easily make them a tad longer than manga showed and it would be great.
I don't think so. 1 chapter per episode.
Impossible. Chapter 538 starts with Ivankov's treatment, continues with Bon Clay's cheering and ends with Luffy recovering. At best, it'll be the "3 chapters for 4 episodes" scenario Kaiolino is suggesting, which is still less than 1 chapter per episode. At worst… well, at worst Toei will be bringing us through our own "hell".
It started halfway through 535. It could easy go halfway through 539. That's 4 chapters.

No, today's episode (437) covered the rest of 535 and the first half of 536. So that would be 4 chapters for 5 episodes. No matter how you slice it, two episodes will be covering the same chapter events (most likely 439 & 440). If I had to guess I'd say that Toei plans on adding plenty of filler to 440 while Bon Clay is cheering for hours on end.
Jeez, I'm really off today, apparently. For some reason I thought tonight's episode was included. I retract what I said, it's wrong.

Instead of the entire scene being Bon Clay cheering, I'm hoping for some filler involving "The Adventure of Buggy and Mr. 3".
So when is Impel Down supposed to get good? Watching the tranny run around and terrible old enemies like Mr. 3 and Buggy for over half the episodes is getting old FAST.
I REALLY miss the old crew members, the only good parts of this arc so far have been Luffy's 5 minute fight with Magellan and the very short fight with the Minotaur.
I thought ID was the best arc yet?
are you a manga reader or not?
cause it should be getting pretty awesome starting around episode 442
and it will stay awesome unless the anime starts to heavily edit things..
@All:
terrible old enemies like Mr. 3 and Buggy
I REALLY miss the old crew members,
Heh, you better get used to them.
Although i found Impel Down got better after chapter 540, which the anime isn't far now.
Hopefully like usual the pacing picks up at the last quarter of this arc. Which is the awesome parts.
And hopefully the animation picks up as well. Cause so far I feel they didn't spend much on this arc other than just some few scenes.
It's a long shot, but I hope it goes like this:
! 442 = [540/541] Atsuko Kawamura
443 = [542/543] Yukiko Nakatani
444 = [543/544] Takeo Ide
445 = [545/546] Shigefumi Shingaki
446 = [546/547] Naoki Tate
447 = [548] Katsumi Ishizuka\Megumi Yamashita?
! Just like Shabondy, They increased the pacing for 5 episodes to 1.5 chapters per episode and the final episode was back to 1 chapter. And in total Shabondy had 21 episodes [485-405], And If I'm right, ID will be 22 episodes[422-447] excluding the filler [426-429].
! Hopefully this time it will be the same. And I checked the cliffhangers, they are perfect.
! I'm 60% sure about the Animation Directors, just not sure about the last 3. lol, even the AD is almost like Shabondy.
This is the only way Toei can redeem themselves for the poor handling of this arc so far.
Poor? They have been handling this arc fantastically so far. Only a couple of arguably bad episodes to speak of.
I'd rather they put the filler in the final 10 chapters, since those chapters were rushed as hell.
Compare it to Shabondy and you will realize that it was poorly handled. The only really really bad episodes in Shabondy were 398 and 386. Even though they were not important episodes, except for the small fight at the end of 398, but Toei made up for it later on.
In Shabondy the great supervisors did most of the main episodes, here it's the other way around. Toshio and Kenji which are the worst supervisors get to do the main fight and one main event, while Tate, Ide, and Katsumi does the talking episodes.
@Kaiolino, Quality of the filler so far in this arc was mediocre. Hopefully we see some good filler action later on, even Shabondy had some filler in the nicely paced episodes.
Almost forgot, one more reason to support my prediction, is Toei changing the order from episode 436. So they can make it so the last chapter is the final episode.

Oh no, I definitely remember a Sabaody episode in the 400's where Robin and Chopper looked like they were drawn by me. (That's bad)
I agree, though, that a lot of those episodes were fantastic. That arc had some of the best and worst episodes.

The art degraded from 401-405 when the action kicked, even though there was good teams, but most of the important scenes had awesome animation. Even Tate and Katsumi's episodes had some bad art.
So far, ID have better art than Shabondy overall, but animation wise, Not even close, IMO.
And not to forget there is less important characters here to draw and no Strawhats.

I'd agree that I'm harping on the art. The animation was really quite good for most of those episodes. Honestly, though, bad art is the first negative thing that I'll notice, which can ruin my enjoyment of what may be good animation.
The art in Impel Down has been great so far. The animation has come in spurts, but there hasn't been a lot of great work in that field. I thought Minotaurous' appearance was very nicely animated, as well as parts of the Luffy vs Magellan fight.

Yeah, the Minotaurs fight was nicely animated, But it was rushed, if you look back at the previous works of Tomita's you will notice this is his only rushed work.
Small fight in 431, and some small scenes in 436 are worth mentioning.
I like to make sakuga videos for the special animators, and in ID there is like 3-4 scenes worth mentioning. While Shabondy have lots of scenes for many great animators, even in the talking episodes.
Anyway, I hope this changes when the action kicks, and as I said before. Hopefully Toei will pull a couple of special episodes for the main fights.
I just fear they might throw another Kenji episode soon enough. That would really suck.
Some new titles:
442. Ace's Convoy Begins - The Defenses of the Lowest Level, Level 6!
443. The Strongest Team is Formed - Shake Impel Down to Its Core!
444. Even More Chaos! Blackbeard Teach Invades!
Looks like we're getting some serious development coming soon. Are those more than one chapter per episode or like 1 & 1/2? I'm to lazy to check…
The first two are most definitely one chapter. The third could be more than one chapter.
Hm, definitely looks like they mashed at least a chapter and a half in there at some point.
I think it's still the same pacing:
441 = [539/540] Masayuki Takagi [539(05-19) - 540(01-04)]
442 = [540/541] Yukiko Nakatani [540(05-19) - 541(01-09)]
443 = [541/542] Atsuko Kawamura [541(10-19) - 542(01-05)]
444 = [542/543] Takeo Ide [542(06-19) - 543(01-09)]
445. Dangerous encounter! Blackbeard and Rain's Shiryuu
Finally next week, we should get new titles!
From the episode preview, 446's title is "His Spirit Won't Break! Hannyabal Goes All Out"
More:
447: The Jet Pistol of Rage - Luffy vs. Blackbeard
448: Stop Magellan! Iva-san Unleashes His Secret Attack
449: Magellan's Scheme! The Jailbreak is Obstructed
3.5 chapters in 4 episodes again?
The war better not dissappoint.
Interesting episodes are a'comin'.
Speaking of which, where are these titles usually found? Fuji's schedule?
What does 449's title refer to?
Magellan having all the ships move out, I assume.
Looking forward to eventually seeing a better shot of the admirals.
Sorry, it's cosplay related. I can't see their cuffs that well.

well i've been enjoying the episodes this impel down. i don't think there has been one that has annoyed me yet, except maybe in newkama land. didn't like that one or two episodes, but otherwise every other episode this arc i have loved
The Jailbreak is obstructed? Clearly it is if they're still slowing down the pace. I've liked all the episodes lately too, but on one hand im eager to see some of the war and on the other hand the more and more they drag these arcs out the more I feel disconnected from the rest of the straw hats which I Love.
They're getting too close to the manga.
Filler's a comin'.
Hopefully at least two of these episodes will have a good animator

I'd say 447 and 449 then.
447 will probably have Blackbeard get poisoned by Mazeran, so we need to see that in epic-vision.
449 needs good visuals to because they're all up by the gate (hopefully.)
448 can have the crappy animation because, let's face it, Ivankov is gonna look like roadkill no matter who draws it.
Too bad for you, because 448 has the best animation (Tate).
And the obstructed jailbreak isn't filler. It's just all the marine ships moving out and the prisoners being all lolwut when they finally arrive outside.
447 is Ishizuka, who's pretty good overall, though some of his facial angling can be pretty jagged and ugly. He can at least draw Blackbeard pretty well, going by opening 10.
448 is Tate, you know the rest.
449 is Takagi, who's hit or miss, and 450 is Yokoyama, who is also hit or miss, though his latest episode, 443, was pretty good.
i see 450 mentioned alot , but no title for that anywhere… anyone care to post it.. even though it might be a tentative title..

Escaping the island, just like the chapter title.
I am just going to bet we still won't a get a new opening with these new episodes. Just because of how spoiled we got in the latest one. I am guessing the best that could happen is them fixing Luffy's vest
So does everyone still hate the current opening? I enjoy listening to it, and I sort of disconnect with the video. I like the song, and it reminds me of fun times with the Strawhats.
While I don't mind the current opening as much as others, I will admit that with all the other shows I'm currently watching weekly (Fullmetal Alchemist, Durarara!!, Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's, and Dragon Ball Kai will probably get a new one soon) getting new openings, One Piece kinda feels left out.

Kai will probably be like Z and won't get a new opening and ending till the buu arc.
