The resemblance is uncanny.

Someone already mentioned this, but nevertheless:
….......
Well....
Duh.
…why the hell didnt I think of that? Kuro and Freddy...well I'll be...
Think about…both have hooks...but the name is the most obvious reference. Hook had 2 mortal enemies. One was Peter, the second being the thing that ended up killing him and first ate his hand...the Tick Tock Crocodile. Actually they are writing an official sequal to Peter Pan called Captain Pan. Sweet.
Well, I think that Oda's inspiration for Gon Forr was Miguel de Cervantes' crazy self-proclaimed knight, Don Quijote de la Mancha. Heh, I never thought that Oda was a fan of renaissance/baroque literature. :P

**Star Trek deep space 9. CP9 outfits?
**
.. o.o That doesnt look like the CP9s outfitt..
Nice one Green Hair thats amazing :lol:
The whole last part of Arlong arc had many similarities and references to Sam Peckinpah's Wild Bunch. The Straw Hats outnumbered, a powerful and merciless enemy, the treachery of Arlong and the treachery of general Mapache, the Straw Hats fighting for Nami, just like the Wild Bunch fought for Angel. And this one's obvious:
The march of the Straw Hats on Arlong Park…
…and the march of the Wild Bunch on Mapache's hacienda.

Yeah this has been mentionned somewhere and there's definately a hint of captain hook in there but Croc is mostly based on "the sandman".
@omae:
You know….no matter how many times that DB picture gets posted, it's always going to look like Luffy from behind and yet it still remains only a cute coincidence. As if Oda was truly inspired by nameless/faceless hick #7643 in DB. Take note of how many other useless BG characters wear that kind of gear in Tenkaichi Budoukai scenes and southern cities. As if straw-hats were THAT uncommon.
Are those pictures really from db? o_O Or did I understand it wrong?
I think that those sea kings or something look very similar to eels from Little Mermaid.
Only the very top one is from DB. Notice how the guy has a black top, but seems more like a tank top than a vest.
Yeah about Oda's Sea Kings and eels, they're total Disney. Carne and Patie also seem quite 'western' as well. I really liked that. Mixes things up a bit.
I can't stop seeing the Chesire cat in Fukurou.
YASOPP….BOB MARLEY!!!
I was so blind
I am lost in this thread and I havent enough time to read all. So did anyone think that CP9 could be a parody of Section 9 from GITS??
Kinai.
CP9 aside from the 9, really dosen't remind me of GITS at all.
They seem to derive from…..
-The Gestapo
-The KGB
-Men in Black
-The resovoir "dogs"
-The Deadly Viper assasination Squad
-Marcellus's hitmen (John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson)
croc based in sandman?? from the comic? if so the please dug a hole a put your head in it.
and about gonfor: i was reading Don Quixote during the Skypea so the resemblance is imediate, specially since i have a version with drawings. Specially since Quixote's weapon was also a lance, much like GonFor.
i can't seem to find a specific inspiration to CP9. but they wear the classic govt secret agents: black with ties. cept for Lucci who has that nice pimpim jacket
ODA is the most amazing writer when it comes to this kind of inspiration. he draws from everything!
It's due to his hobby of watching movies…
And his wild, WILD imagination.
Sorry if this was already posted…
But, it's no doubt Don Kreig was based on Don King…

Oh my god!! :ohmy: I am from Spain and I didnt see this!! :bawling:
Kinai.

I think they are talking about "The Sandman" from the old 60's Batman live action series (not the Marvel Comics Spiderman foe Sandman…or the DC/Vertigo Sandman comic...or the old DC comic characte/Mystery Theatre Sandman).
There was a thread about it: http://ap.animemedia.org/showthread.php?t=2740
Sorry for the bump, but I found this kinda interesting….
Holy… that seems almost too close to be a coincidence. Good find, chitose!
And by the way, the sims 2 Snape in your singature looks almost identical to my Sims 2 Snape, only mine has this permanent and really mean scowl on his face.
Whoa… that's kinda scary... scary similair!
The first time I saw Kuro, I remembered Freddy Kruger and the claws resemblance. But recently, I was looking at some pics from Frank Miller's Sin City and then something else hit me. Kuro's look and MO are strikingly similar to those of Kevin, the cannibal killer. Sorry for the movie screenshots, I wasn't able to find any descent pics from the comic itself.
Mmm-mm-mm, Elijah Wood… I mean, uh, good find Green Hair... <_<;
The inspirations behind the names of the Franky Family's Yagara Bulls should be obvious (Sodom and Gommorah, after the Biblical cities where sin was prevalent [sodomy–the official name for buttsex--comes from here]).
I want to know if anybody can figure out why they're named that.
Well…...the Franky Family is a group of gangster/mercanaries....so they're probably proud to name their badass yagarsa sin-names!

The sanji in the story involves a bakery (aka cooking)and the spelling is exactly the same. Anyone think that Sanji is named after the character in this children's book?
Who is this guy?
^ Holy junk, that is way too similar to be just a coincidence.
er… lil sanji
taboo - holy moly golly jolly dolly…you get the picture gasp
I found it on the web. I'm not sure who it belongs to exactly.
Good god! I just had to quote some of these… sorry if this is too long...
@e1n:
this thread was once fun, with someone finding count chocola as foxy, and that hugo boss model as pauley (that was a hella good one)
if i don't remember wrong, VOEL brought this up last time. i still think this is the best find.
and i still vouch for jim carrey in ace ventura being the model of franky. only he didn't wear speedos.
Holy crap, that is just too awesome!!! It just floors me how much they look alike! Down to the hairstyle and the goggles! Damn…. And now that I think about it, Franky does remind me of Ace Ventura... how funny X3
@Marred:
Micheal Jackson + Elton John = Jango! 0_o
I always thought it would be Micheal Jackson + Steve Tyler = Jango X3
@Yumi:
Odachii professes to be a big fan of Tarantino. Well, Pulp Fiction. I think Mia Wallace inspired the birth of Nico Robin.
Plus Sanji's "Mr. Prince" is very Reservoir Dogs. :D
Oda has good taste X3 Yeah, Sanji would fit right in that movie… And I never realized how much Robin resembled Mia Wallace... For some reason, I always thought she kinda looked like Monica Gellar off of Friends....sorta
@Magax:
You…Don't mess with Eneru...'Cause Eneru...Will f*ckin' kill you!
(I'MA KILL YOU!)
XD
That is just scary! He really does look like Eminem! Even that lazy look he has sorta resembles him in a way…
The only thing that remains i don't get is where did oda get the idea to give zoro sideburns???
… but he looks hot w/ sideburns X3 i guess its just part of his character design, maybe it just looked right ^^ Kohza has way bigger sideburns though...
Um, I don't want to make this post too big, so I'll post the rest of my replies in a bit...
@MB.:
Kick ass avatar dude. I think Oda has many insperations from America. Hell even the design style is friendly to non-anime watching people. They wouldn't know it's an anime if someone didn't tell them.
Ah, so true… That's why I love One Piece, its so original, and stands out from other anime and manga series... Plus... pirates. rock.
Some Quentin Tarantino comparisons…
The obvious....
Uma Thurman as Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction.
Mia = Robin, we all know that.Now this I recently thought of…
Tim Roth as Mr.Orange from Resorvoir Dogs.
Is Fullbodies inspiration visually? :huh:And heres an even more interesting one.
Darryl Hannah as Elle Driver from Kill Bill.is…...
Is…....
Hina!
The thing is…..is that Hina came first....
You think maybe Tarantino has indulged on a certain series involving this forum?
Wow, its so crazy how much Nico Robin looks like Mia Wallace, and I love that comparison between Fullbody and Tim Roth… And I never thought about Kalifa resembling Daryl Hannah... that's pretty cool
If Tarantino liked One Piece... that would be awesome. I believe he is into anime, no?
@Green:
Somehow the members of CP9 remind of Tarantino's Deadly Viper Assassination Squad from Kill Bill. Oda just switched the odds between males and females.
Yeah, both groups are badasses, and the fact that they all wear black… that's interesting... plus, both groups are assassins X3
@Green:
And here's something concerning Zoro's…
…and Zorro's bandana.
…...shudders While I love both Zoro and Zorro, it gives me a weird feeling in my stomach when i see the two compared for likeness... but its to be expected... that is a funny comparison w/ those two pics though, i gotta admit...
@Mei:
Good GOD that is hot! Now if only Kaku was real…. X3
Who is this guy?
Looks kinda like Johnny Depp… this is the second reference to Johnny Depp resembling Mihawk... hmm, coincidence?
er… lil sanji
omg, that is cute! He DOES look like little Sanji, the hair is perfect!
Hey guyz, you know "Yattaman"?
Look this picture of the Trio Rombo from that anime:
Looks familiar yap?
It's Foxy's crew…. WITH BELLYBUTTONS!
Creepy.
Higuma reminds me of Billy the kid for some reason
Apologies for bumping, but I went through some random girl's myspace, and found a magazine cover pic. They looked just like Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine. I put them together to compare
I also found something interesting
He came long after Carne did, but he kinda looks like him
Hmm…. I don't see a resemblence between the Austin Powers characters and those OP characters.
I wasn't really pointing out any resemblence. I just noticed lots of Austin Powers references in them. Do you ever recall in the manga when the Strawhats arrived at Whiskey Peak, the two jumped off the ship, saying "bye bye baby". They both like to stick their pinky fingers like Dr. Evil.
Hmmm…. I don't recall that. And I don't see any resemblence between what Mr. 9 is doing with his pinky what Dr. Evil does with his.
Hmm…. I don't see a resemblence between the Austin Powers characters and those OP characters.
I think its pretty obvious<_< …....with Mr.9 especially.
Yeah, I see the pinky. It's just that many people extend their pinky when doing some things. And Mr. 9's pinky isn't in his lips.
Great find PandaJinpen! It's them exactly! O_O
Ararara…
Mr.9 dress like Austin and extend his pinky like Mr.Evil do.
Luffy reminds me of this japanese drama I saw somewhere….
I read through this every once and awhile and while some pics have a passing resemblance and are merely cute observations, the last one I saw that was UNQUESTIONABLY a source image was that Paulie image.
BUT
Whoever, found that Johnny Depp with the top hat and flowing hair, EXCELLENT FIND!! What movie or show was that??
Wario=Wapol
they're both the greediest money loving wierdos ever
@omae:

You mean Benny & Joon?
