Well, thinking back I can only remember one design I loved the second I first saw it, and that would be Brook. I mean, as a concept, what could possibly be better than a eight-feet tall living skeleton with an afro?
As for others, well, I've noticed I tend to like ones with noses that are different from the "standard" shape (= Usopp, Banchina, Buggy,
Kureha etc.) or are plain odd in some other way (= Jango, Bon Kurei, Kokoro, Absalom etc.).
(Tra-La-La Note: Both Lucci and Robin are not that good of person at all, so what the hell if he is a " bad guy" and she is a "good guy". That poor man was just doing his job =P)
Lucci was most definitely not "just doing his job". He was doing his job, true, but he was also enjoying it.
While I'd like to believe Moria's size is supposed to vary for one reason or another, I think Oda either changed his mind or initially drew Moria too big. Scaling errors have happened in the past, even with characters of established sizes.
If the more recent depiction is Moria's intended size, though, I doubt if he's of the same species/race as the giants seen before in the series, or a giant at all. He looks barely bigger than Whitebeard and his facial features are pretty far from those of the other giants (granted, this may be because of the horror theme of the arc). Looking at his first appearance now, he doesn't even look as big as I originally though, though still definitely bigger than in the last chapter.

That's actually a pretty cool idea, though in all honesty, I'm not sure how it could be used in the story, unless of course he somehow transfers his shadow into, say, Luffy's body* and becomes invincible or something.
*obviously Luffy cannot die, so unless Moria can put shadows into living beings without killing them, that won't happen.

Now don't get me wrong, it sounds like a war to me, too (mostly because I'm oddly reminded of the shots of Sarajevo triggering WW2) but these were two pirates, both outlaws. Unless it's a war between two kinds of pirates, why would a pirate killing another start a war? To just state that it will start a war sounded like jumping to conclusions to me. Luffy turning into a Super Saiyan and blowing up the Grand Line would also be a huge and unforgettable event.
All I'm saying here is that this is One Piece, and by now we should be expecting the unexpected rather than accepting the most obvious conclusion as a solid fact.

Uncool? He'd die fighting bravely against an overpowered enemy while his supernova colides with BB Black hole. I call that epic and since his death will cause a war its even more epic.
That's the thing, he started a fight against a morally inferior opponent and got his ass handed to him. And somehow the fact that he didn't know what he was up against makes it even worse. Luffy tends to lose his first fights with main villains, but chance of death usually only comes to play in the final fight, where he's giving his opponent a hard time. To me it's an uncool way for someone as strong as Ace to go because Blackbeard didn't appear to suffer any serious injuries.
Does it really say "war"? The translation I read only spoke of an incident. A large scale incident, to be sure, perhaps the "turning point of an era" we've been hearing about since Alabasta, but an actual war?
It sounds to me like "dead", but… such an uncool way for a "D" to go, don't you think?
If the event this triggered has anything to do with Luffy coming after Blackbeard, then, yeah, I can't see how Ace could be alive. But if it'll get Newgate on the move and result in, say, HIS death, Ace might have survived.
Or Ace could pull a Pell, but that'd probably be pretty lame. If Oda is going to tell us Ace's dead, then I'd rather he stayed dead.
I'm also wondering about that piece of paper. It's not like OP characters to let death get in the way of fulfilling their promises.
And by the way, it is incorrect to say that no one has ever died in One Piece: Did Merry not just kick the bucket a few chapters ago? Mr. 11 and the special Duck Claw squad from Alabasta died, and there have been a number of nameless characters that have died. True hardly anyone dies in OP, but that doesn't mean no one can die.
I watched this one AMV about 'lifes gonna suck' there were subtitles to it, after searching for a while and learning that the dub was all a lie.
Wow, that… that AMV was one of mine. I feel kinda special now (I guess something good came out of my inability to find raws of the older episodes, huh?).
As for my story, I used to see screencaps of OP anime here and there about... two and a half years ago, if memory serves. At that time, I and my sister liked downloading random AMVs and one OP AMV - done to Relient K's Pirates Who Don't Do Anything - was good enough to keep. So good, in fact, thatI downloaded a few episodes (nearly closed the media player when Luffy stretched for the first time, thinking it was a really lame visual gag). I think I watched up to Ep. 5 but when I realized that there were a gazillion episodes and that "that long nosed dude" would be the next to join I stopped downloading. See, from the AMV I'd somehow gotten the impression that Usopp was a throroughly unpleasant person. (the AMV also includes a small clip at the end where Usopp tells Luffy and co. he has 8 thousand followers. I actually believed him.)
Then, one day in Marh of 2005 I came home from school to find my sister reading the first volume of the manga (a Finnish publisher had just picked it up that month). I decided to give the series another try and next downloaded a later episode to see the series in action. The episode later turned out to be a TV special which looking back is really not that great, but at that time I don't think even Apis arc could've turned me away.
I found myself really liking Usopp and really wondering just why there was so much Zoro/Sanji yaoi around (I'd assumed until then that they would be really close and touchy-feely with each other).
Next thing I knew, I loved almost every character introduced and marvelled at how the series lacked the usual black-and-white morals. OP even taught me to enjoy the long-ass shounen fights. At this point Oda would have to go through a lot of trouble and completely wreck the series if he wanted me to stop reading.
Excuse me, that was Zoro stuck in a chimney in W7. Luffy got stuck between two buildings.
Apart from that, I agree with some of your points and disagree with others, but ATM I don't really feel like starting even a minor debate about this stuff.
I personally have trouble picturing Nami as straight (even though I'm a bit of a fan of Nami/Usopp). The same goes for Hina for some reason. And her boys (=Jango and Fullbody) are too much into each other to be straight in my eyes, but they also have the hots for Hina, so they're probably bi.
In addition to those, Vivi, Mr.9, Enel, Kalifa, Chaka, Pell and Robin have given me that vibe.
And um, in all honesty, I see Zoro as asexual. He has no trust or interest in the fairer sex, but he also doesn't strike me as gay.
